What’s poppin’, Watch-Men?! It’s me, MT! And welcome back to the Heavy Spoilers show! This is a breakdown of the 3 and a half hour Ultimate Cut of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen! This big boy is a brutal beast of a blast and I can’t wait to get into it with you all so I won’t! So much like the Comedian did to the pavement, let’s just dive into it!
The Watchmen movie, of course, is an adaptation of Alan Moore’s 1986 comic book series set in the Cold War era of an alternate universe of crime fighting vigilantes. And because of the Cold War setting, World War III is a threat consuming the minds of everyone. This being the case, I love how the movie starts with a zoom out from the Comedian’s smiley face pin accompanied by the sound of a tea kettle screeching. Having this occur as The Comedian listens to a TV broadcast detailing the rising tensions between Russia and Afghanistan was a fantastic audible choice by Zack Snyder to set up this universe of boiling tension between the nations of the world on the brink of a possible nuclear armageddon. - Развлечения

New media rockstars are idiots for not keeping this man. Another banger !!
Love the addition of MT to the team. I’m loving this channel even more now ❤️🐐
The fact that you're calling some of these like Upgrade "classics" makes me feel really old 😂😭
Freighter.... is pronounced "fray-ter" Not "fight-or"
I missed you 😩
"So much like the Comedian did with the pavement..." I was not prepared for that level of savagery right out the gate 😂
It took three watches before I noticed the Comedian on the Grassy Knoll ...
Right?! I got smashed in the face with that line.
Just like Comedian did with the pavement (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞
@@ChurchNietzschewhat?? How????
As a huge Watchmen nerd I have to admit, I'm impressed at the number of things I missed. Great vid my dude.
I only just now got the double entendre of Hollis Mason's book "Under the Hood," referring to both his super hero costume and being a car mechanic. I don't know how I never noticed it before 😂.
Damn now I feel slow 🤦🏿♂️😂
When I was in school my teacher was a friend of the production designer Alex McDowell so when this movie released he came to do a lecture. I’m still amazed by this movie’s faithfulness visually to the source and how hard they worked to fit everything in. I seem to remember McDowell talking about how all of the Night Owl books were fully printed with text under the covers because that was the level of detail they were wanting.
Awsome.
"Freighter" is pronounced "Fray-ter".
Thank you. I know I'm late to this, but that was driving me crazy.
Same, I was super frustrated by that
And now I can watch the rest ......
I saw this movie 4 times in the theaters and countless times on DVD. I've read the comic a few times and I love how MT is now breaking it down and I still love it. Thank you Paul and MT!!!
I approve this comment.
I'm the same; seen the movie countless times and MT pointed things out that I never noticed after all this time!
Getting MT on heavy spoilers was a genius move. Love his breakdowns. Would love it if he done some watch alongs on some classic comic book movies
Agreed
MT....Watchalong??? Take my money.
This is my favorite movie. I’ve seen it a million times and have broken it down in every way possible. You did a great job MT!
Coolness.
My favourite film of all-time is Tim Burton's Batman
Best comic-book-movie, need to get my hands on this ultimate cut!
every way? zero mention of the doctor's settlement on another planet in the movie and his love interest.
I love you , MT. I love everything about the way you do what you do.
That being said.... it's "FRAY-tuhr", my guy.
But for real for real.... this was an absolute masterpiece of a breakdown that only you could put together so well.
I almost edited my comment to write the same thing. I immediately developed a parasocial relationship with MT and his presentation, such that I felt like I needed to correct his pronunciation and I knew he'd take it in stride haha
Thank you! I thought I was going crazy
I like how he did a better job with the latin than he did with "freighter" for some reason. :D
FOR REAL, PRONOUNCE THE WORD FREIGHT MY GUY
FRAY-T or FrATE
Along the same lines a lair is not a layer. Also the the famous picture is of a sailor and a nurse not a soldier
Most underrated movie of all 🔊🔊🔊
I love how MT’s profanity adds so much color during breakdowns. It sounds comedic and fun. Much like Paul’s.
Another fun, subtle detail is that when Adrian Veidt is around his friends in private like Nite Owl he speaks with a very slight German accent. You can hear it best when Dan goes to see him at Veidt tower. He speaks in a more American accent the rest of the time when in public. In the comic he is of German origin and I think he masks his accent because at the time WWII was very fresh in people’s minds and he wanted to distance himself from them as much as possible.
Zack Snyder has an incredible talent and eye when it comes to moving images, and here he had such a dense material to build on its elevated Watchmen to something more than a comic and a movie. When I read it I see and hear the movie in my head and when I watch the movie I remember so much from Alan Moore’s comic, it a wonderful mythos of an alternative history . . .
I have watched this movie many times. I have read the comic series several times. Yet, you still uncovered several Easter eggs that I missed. Impressive.
Yeah mate, MT had been killing it on Heavy Spoilers! I see this new exciting light in him now. Keep up with the great breakdowns guys! One love guys!
He’s my second fav person from new rockstars and bring soooo much energy and i love it and his personality
@@explosivez1096he’s been best so had I’ve heard… his giggles are fun 😊
Those playing cards are very specific. They are a deck designed so the magician can accurately predict what card you are holding (the patern on the back is unique to each card). This kind of deck plays well into the symbolism of fatalism and gives someone the illusion of control while orchestrating events. 24:03
Interesting, thanks
Absolutely love Watchmen! Zack Snyder gets alot of flack for his films, but Watchmen will always be his crown jewel. It's just so damn good.
Also, it's damn good to be an MT fan! Hearing big MT let loose and drop f-bombs is awesome 👌 probably not for the channels revenue, but for us, hell yeah 😀
How about all along the watchtower playing as they approach… a wild cat did growl,.. two riders were approaching… and the wind began to howl. Perfection
This is so good. I'd forgotten how awesome this movie was. MT should totally do a long overdue breakdown of the (magnificent) Watchmen miniseries.
After the TV series I have a new respect for Hooded Justice
Good analysis, MT! I’m digging your Heavy Spoilers sound/feel more than those, uh, other fellahs! Keep up the good work.
MT kills it everywhere. It's just him, not the places.... Paul and MT are a great team.... we get a lot of personality over here ....
This is an incredible video!Thank you for sharing with us ❤
Really impressed. I am old enough that I actually bought the original comic run as it was released. The insights into the Black Freighter were bang on. Overall I am enjoying these film analyses. I’m a big physical media fan. And everyone on this channel that you’ve covered I actually own.
Over half the video was the intro to the movie
As i remember it from the original graphic novel, Ozzy is super powered, Comedian is peak human powered
Never realized how great the cinematography was. I overlooked this movie and didn't give it much of an afterthought because there were countless blockbusters back then. Now this looks way better than what's being put out today. Gonna have to rewatch
Kick ass breakdown MT! Loved it
I was excited for the title, then I heard MT’s voice and got hype!! This was such a good move for the channel.
MT I hope you know that we Heavy Spoilers fans ABSOLUTELY LOVE that you are now apart of this community. I have always loved your breakdowns and now that I can hear them more frequently. I can't wait to hear your ideas, conspiracies, and just overall lore. WE LOVE YOU MT
This movie was so criminally underrated. I watched it so many times. I was amazed how close they kept it to the comic
21:05 - In addition to the Pale Horse reference, there's also an ominous allusion to Krystalnacht, which is translated as "Night of Broken Glass" and represents a WW II-era atrocity. Definitely another intentional reference to oncoming pain that the city of Manhattan suffers in the movie, Watchmen.
2:06 You are spot on with the 1911 sitting on top of a Hustler. But I don't think fear or paranoia are components of having a gun within reach. When you live by the sword, over childless decades, you accumulate swords, lying around everywhere.
Fantastic stuff. Thank you kindly!
"Rorschach broke into his apartment: For all of his sweet, sweet beans!" 😂😂
Excellent video as always. Soooo many pearls in this video, I might have to watch it twice.
Just a thought, the sequence where the military shoot at the flower power peeps could also be a nod to the Kent State University massacre, the students were protesting the Vietnam war, a VERY important part of the movie / comic!
Love your breakdowns, MT!
That was great - lots of stuff I never picked up on. Don't agree with the comedian and Ozymandias' 'superpowered' fighting skills negating the arrival of Dr Manhattan though. I never really considered them to be super powered - not that I fancy trying to punch a chunk out of a wall anytime soon - but always considered them to be just a lot better than the average brawler found in a comics universe - much like Batman.
Ey glad you enjoyed it
I agree with this sentiment. Especially since not only are they successful heroes, but there's other elements of super tech to the world. Rorscharch's mask, and all of the later Nightowl's manufactured bat-gadgets.Even the source material plays up that The Comedian was built like a weight lifter and he must have been attacked by two guys to have his apartment thrashed and been thrown out that heavy plate glass window. Peaks of human prowess.
Great breakdown. MT is a perfect fit for the channel.
Love this movie. Definitely a masterpiece.
This is the greatest comic book movie adaptation of all time.
Good job indeed. I know the ultimate edition is not easy to get through. BTW, I believe Freighter in Black Freighter is pronounced fraiter like crater since it has deadly freight which rhymes with date.
Nah, I never recognized the comedian's strength in the film as a super power. He was just one brutal and tough SOB
It takes me 4 hours to make my 10 minute videos, so I know how long these take. Well done!!
Didn’t know MT was here as well. Love this guy and love seeing another channel show this big hat man some love.
Man I just want to say dude, I love your content and this channel has quickly become one of my favorites.
I love this movie. Thanks for the overview. Always good to hear MT
Even though we never learn exactly what happened to Hooded Justice, Ozymandias believed it was the Comedian who killed him. Ozymandias was doing his own investigations after Hooded Justice died and he discovered that the Comedian had been contracted by the US Government to track down Hooded Justice but had allegedly reported failure in doing so to his employers. Ozymandias suspected this was a lie and that Comedian killed him off anyway, having still been bitter about Hooded Justice interrupting his rape of Silk Spectre years earlier.
Incredible movie. Very underrated. I never got the impression that the heros were super powered, just peak trained humans. Maybe some exaggeration, but nothing much more than you'd get in the average martial arts themed movie.
I felt the same. Plus there's a big difference between being able to throw a guy around a room punching through walls and being an actual god.
This movie was very weird. First time i hated it. Second time i love it till this day. Anyone?😅
Nope
I hope you cover the series too! Great breakdown.
I just rewatched this and the series, perfect timing dropping this breakdown! I hope you are planning on doing a breakdown on the series also. Can never have enough Watchmen content.
I loved this movie, I wasn't expecting such a detailed anylisis good on you !
Amazes me that they put in these 100's of details that mostly go totally unnoticed.
Dude, the girl putting the. flower in the gun is from Kent State shooting. Lots of innocent kids got shot that day.
I'm so glad MT landed at another channel I love. And I'm so glad someone broke down the Ultimate Edition of Watchmen! Great work here.
One thing. Yes the heroes did not have super powers in the comic.
Although it's hinted that Ozy was.
They mention a few times he was different from the rest. Faster, smarter, stronger.
He was able to summarily defeat the Comedian, with little or no injury to himself.
The assassination attempt showed beyond human reflexes and speed.
Night owl mentions in the comic book, crime figuring almost looked too easy for him.
Mt is killing it!! Good job bro
14:00 I noticed that Night Owl was standing between Rorschach and Osi and Dr.
Great breakdown!
Yeeees! More MT breakdowns please! I might be about to fall asleep, but damn am I feeling comfy. Also 10/10 aliteracy.
Great work guys ! Thank you to Heavy Spoilers letting MT cook , homie is just a vibe to watch
“Just like the comedian..” LMAO great delivery MT
I already knew a heck lot of Easter eggs and details in watchmen, seen a lot of vids on it… yet somehow the Thomas and Martha Wayne saved by night owl bit completely passed me by, and there’s even the batman comic on the wall to forever laugh in my face every time I watch the movie. Unbelievable, and only 7 mins in to this vid. Keep up the fantastic work MT.
Edit: blatantly shows that i never read thumbnails either, as its plastered all over it... i just saw watchmen and clicked. 😂
Loved this but in the future I'd like to hear the artist's name mentioned alongside of the writer of the comic book as well, especially in the case of watchmen because Dave Gibbons' art massively inspired the visual look of the movie & is/was as important as Alan Moore's story.
You missed that with Andy Warhol, there is also a reference to Trueman Copote socialite, American novelist and long time friend of Warhol
YOOOOOOOOOO ITS MT!!! So good to hear his voice again! Nice move man! Great content
Yooo wtf… MT?!
That’s awesome!!
I love MT break downs but I’m so accustomed to Paul’s voice…. WHAT DO I DOOOOOOOO!!!!
This is an incredible breakdown. Loved the graphic novel/comics version of this and loved the movie representation equally.
Alan Moore wrote it Dave Gibbons drew, designed, lettered and had huge input to all of world building . This is not in dispute. Please acknowledge.
MT always gets an auto like from me! I love this graphic novel, movie and spinoff.
KEEP EM COMING !
I had the original trade paperback of the comic and I loved the film and loved the recent TV series more. My only problem was with the film portrayal of Ozymandias - he didn’t strike me as ‘super’ enough. He was supposed to be the perfect human specimen, but just looked too skinny. However Jeremy Irons was fabulous in the series
Super good video!
11:59 Don’t forget Truman Capote standing next to Andy Warhol!
Amen!
22:25 This is Captain Metropolis's display. Those are just the things HE cared about.
Love this movie, thanks, never saw the longer version.
The Comedian is such a fantastic character..
Long vid, took me awhile to watch it in my queue, but MT was great as always.
great breakdown...... love the film, and i love the comic book, great stuff! thanks!
I am pretty sure the rally that Night Owl and Comedian went to break up was an anti masked-hero rally not an anti Vietnam rally. Especially since it took place WAY after Vietnam was over (As remarked by Comedian - who was in Vietnam until the war was over, when he stated he loved being back and working on American soil again). Also as you keenly point out, Vietnam seems to have been annexed and made the 51st state so I don't think people are still protesting the war there
At risk of giving What is AntiLogic ideas, has anyone tried to argue that Negan is the comedian in the future?
I love this movie, one of my all-time-favorite films!
Thank you MT to cover this one 👍
Great video! Rorschach's mark is a pair of mirrored Rs (for Rorschach), not Ls. The photographer of the famous V-J shot was Eisenstadt, not Ernstadt. You make me want to watch the opening again just to savor every moment.
So good. Your video that is
MT is doing THIS?!?
Unexpected BONUS
❤❤❤❤
Your voice is legendary.
MT. My guy. Keep it going!!
Great choice here to breakdown The Watchman, I love this movie. Excellent job by MT with this one. I never understood the lack of support for Snyder on this one but as the years have gone by I’ve realized that for some reason many people who don’t like Snyder’s films feel it’s necessary to go out of their way to show how and why they dislike them. This is a very tough story to put to film and he does it very well. I really like the show on HBO, wondering if they will ever follow up with a second season
21:05 another, possible, easter egg: below Pale Horse is the word 'Krystalnacht', maybe referencing the destroying of Jewish property in pre-ww2 Nazi Germany. Symbolising the hatred towards superheroes and the wish of them being outlawed.
Hooded Justice is revealed to be Officer Will Reeves in the HBO adaptation
Trash show. Hooded Justice was not some black guy
I love this film and your view as well . I appreciate you very much 🙏🖤💯💯💯♠️
Great Job MT
HAPPY TO SEE MT HERE AWSOME MOVE💯
One thing about Zandt's death, and I can't immediately recall if the film ever touched upon it, but homophobia was not the primary motivation behind her death in the comic, which claims that her murderer was a former villain whom Zandt herself had nearly killed in the past. This could be another example of the film changing elements from the original comic, or it could be that the homophobia was more of a secondary motivation.
Thank you
Hey man, great take.
I recognize your voice from Rockstars right?
No mention of Dr Manhattan taking the photo of Neil Armstrong. You see DM's reflection on NA's helmet as he does this
