  • The Dark Knight Rises (2012) full movie breakdown! How did director Christopher Nolan adapt the Bane character from the Batman comics, and what visual details did he hide in Bane's appearance and costume? What subtle connections exist between The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight (2008) and Batman Begins (2005), and how is the movie influenced by the next phase of Nolan's work, including movies like Inception and Dunkirk? Erik Voss analyzes the deeper meaning of The Dark Knight Rises, including parallels to Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities and Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. What Joker Easter Eggs are hidden in The Dark Knight Rises? How is the reveal of Robin foreshadowed throughout the movie?

Tom Hardy's Bane is so underrated in this trilogy. This villain is up there with Heath Ledgers Joker. He did Bane so well, I don't think there will ever be a better version of this Bane. I don't think we ever gave Tom Hardy the respect he should have got for this role. He should've got at least an Oscar nomination for best character/actor. It seemed Batman played a secondary role to Bane. Also Bane was such a good villain for this trilogy.

But, this past year I saw Infinity War 3 times in theaters, with various groups of friends and family, and the same with Solo and Suicide Squad.
Nowadays I own basically the whole MCU on DVD, and the first two Nolan Batman films. I’ll probably get the third one now.

God YES, it is. TDKR got unjustified tons of criticism, it's one of the best comic book movies ever made, and like Erik implies, if people weren't still obsessed with The Dark Knight grandeur when they went to watch its sequel (= if they accepted that TDKR wasn't meant to be a TDK 2, but a movie on its own, 'cause all three have their specific identities), maybe they would have recognized its qualities.

I'm so grateful for this breakdown. The Dark Knight gains its accolades because of Joker (that's usually the first and only thing that comes up), but there's A LOT more to The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, and so much thought went into giving each movie substance. The reason I appreciate The Dark Knight Rises so much is the underlying of economic inequality and social upheaval. It's not chaotic like the second movie; it's political and strategic. While it doesn't have the flair of a madman in makeup, The Dark Knight Rises considers the city as a whole: their authority and morality (both ended up being inverted). I'll stop there before I get carried away, because I love this movie. Although I love the trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises is smart and uplifting! Thanks again for this amazing breakdown.

But there is a lot of unique tellings of different characters and comic storylines. They found a way to bring everything together and have a concussion to the main characters (Alfred, Gordon, Bruce) stories. Dark Knight Rises had an up hill battle for the start. It was always going to be compared to The Dark Knight. Which we all know was an unfair measuring stick. It was a great movie. And a great end to one of the best trilogies

But doing it now might be confusing for casual fans. I would like to see him in another superhero movie though. Since he's already been in The Dark Knight Rises, it would be nice to see him in the MCU. A lot of people have fan-casted him as Mr Fantastic. I don't really see him as a good fit for that role, but would love to see him play someone else; someone that he fits better as.

I've been up all night watching these videos.
The correct order from best to worst is:
    The Dark Knight
    The Dark Knight Rises
    Batman Begins

Back in july 2012 I just got my eyes laser surgery done. In a strange city, where I came to the hospital for a treatment, it was beautiful sunny summer, when the next day after the surgery I got out on the southern streets with my -8 magically transformed to +1. After doctor said that everything went beter then he expected, I was walking, exploring the city, passing by the old cinema. For my surprise it was the first day of The Dark Night Rises movie. I still remember, that on the working day at 11 a.m. there were just a few people watching the movie. Escaping merciless light and heat of the sun, in the pleasant darkness of the movie, I remember how it felt, like it was the first movie I've ever watched. It was purely ecxiting! After many years it's still my favorite Batman movie. I love every single thing about it.

Nolan should definitely do a Nightwing Trilogy. He set it up so well, and I want to see how he'd handle depicting other villains.

I think this film gets far too much criticism. It may not be the 'best' in the series, necessarily, but it IS my favourite.

What an awesome video. I agree wholeheartedly with the point he made about how TDKR would be perceived if it were the direct follow-up to Batman Begins instead of TDK. It would likely be considered the greatest and most epic standalone superhero movie of all time. Certainly the most nuaned and sophisticated. The Dark Knight set the bar very high.

The Dark Knight may be the most popular but, as for depth, The Dark Knight Rises is still number one in my book (my favorite of the three)..
