Hey, his Joker was already transformed when Heath played him while Joaquin's was showing the process or caterpillar. I want to see where and how far Joaquin's new found Joker is willing to go. The shoulder lift or shrug reminded me of a child that had been traumatized and was very upset and ready to lash out in a rage. Though the Murray shooting was gruesome and Heath's Joker had some really violent moments; the scene that did it for me (made Joaquin's Joker more Joker than Arthur) is when he quietly locks the chain but not the bottom lock. Then he pulls that knife and stabs the co worker that crossed him in such a brutal fashion ( while his other friend begging him to stop)that the knife actually went through the man's skull all the way down to the handle. (After he repeatedly stabbed the guy thru the heart). He then sits there in the blood as he allows the other guy to leave knowing that he couldn't because of his height.(he even jumps at him playfully to scare him even more) He then unlocks the door and kisses his friend and explains that he considers him a friend and allows him to leave. He went from being a psychotic monster to calm calculating mob boss in less than 5 minutes. That's what makes his the best.
@@TheMidnightBell07 Meh. Phoenix's Joker never struck me as particularly fearsome or intelligent. He might have been a sociopathic schizophrenic but not a particularly smart one. He doesn't scare people beyond being generally crazy. Heath's Joker is all of those things but he's also very intelligent, all the while portraying himself as not. He talks about not having a plan but he is the guy with multiple plans. He's the guy who can read people accurately, he knows exactly what buttons to press and how to get things done as an "agent" of chaos.
The fact the joker participated in all his crimes was brilliant. In the cartoon somehow he sabotaged a lot of stuff that would put batman in a tough predicament. The way he was in every single act of crime in the film was dope. Heath ledger really went all out on this role. I'll always love the guy. A lot of people say he got too much into the character and drove him crazy. Don't say that please, he was losing his family at that time, almost no custody of his daughter he was depressed, he didn't report to his doctor he was under certain meds, and the doctor prescribed him other medication. We lost a great man, just due to over medication. Don't disgrace his legacy, he was a great actor. A great man, he was just fighting depression a lot of people don't make it out of that. So calling him a junkie is not cool
That wasn't to frame them... That was his calling card before she was blown up. Just like poisoning the commisoner with his alcohol. Even after Batman Begins Commisoner Gordon tells him "A new criminal is intown who paints his face and leaves a calling card." And than he hands over the Jokers card.
JaxBlade yea me too . Sucks that he overdosed on pills . He was locked up in his room and he wanted this part so bad . That eventually took his life . I wanted to see Batman , bane , joker all the in the same move . That would be so dope .
The entire story of TDKR would have been different if Heath Ledger had not died so most likely we wouldn't have even had Bane. Still cool to think about though
Imagine this, Dark Knight rises is the same, but with the joker in Arkam asylum and Harley Quinn as his psychologist. He mentally breaks her in the midst of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and breaks out of arkam while batman saves the day and sets up movie number 4
The thing I love about the Joker’s backstory about his scars is that every time he tells it, it’s always different but equally unsettling and unnerving. And the scary part about it is that one of those stories are probably true, but with how insane he is you can never guess if he’s telling the truth.
Whenever i think about watching this movie i change my mind cus i only really wanna watch these parts.i dont know if theres ever been a better portrayal of a fictional character. glad i discovered this 6yrs later lol Thanks my guy 💯🤜
@ProDeimonk ProDeimonk Sure, but many of the other things, he improvised completely. One funny example of this is how he was the one who came up with all of his ridiculous backstories for his scars or when he says "yeah" to Gamble ("You think you can steal from us and just walk away?" He was so unbelievable in this movie. Its so convincing and real that every other Joker except for maybe Joaquin Phoenix in the first Joker will never seem believable to me personally. He captured the wicked darkness, the manipulation, the greed, the rage and just the pure evil of the Joker so well I truly believe Heath was born to play the Joker. That was his legacy and his destiny and he did a damn good job
8:46 holy shit, that 'LOOK AT ME' is terrifying. In that one line Heath did such a great job of showing the sheer malice lurking behind his eccentric portrayal.
That's something that Ledger's performance shares with Hamill's. They both have those quick little moments when outer layers of artifice fall away, and we get that glimpse of the hate that is the foundation underneath it all. Ledger's is rage, Hamill's tended to go flat and without affectation, all the laughter gone from the personality for a moment leaving only cold cruelty.

So YOU have to BECOME the fear to endure this rejection! And that is exactly what this fictional character is supposed to represent. And while Christopher and Heath portrayed this message perfectly, you first have to figure it out and look deeper to really understand it.
The fact he tells 2 different stories on how he got his scars was one of the best writing segments ever. Keeps the whole character a mystery and makes you second guess every word he spoke up to that point.
Not just the scar stories; every monologue he gives is contradictory. "If you're good at something, never do it for free" vs burning his half later because it's about "sending a message". "Do I look like someone with a plan" to Dent when literally every scene he's in involves him executing an incredibly intricate plan--including that very same scene where he detonates enough pre-placed explosives to level a hospital. CATH JH Definitely would’ve loved to have seen a solo film with him. He was incredible in this movie because the way he bounced off of Bruce and the city of Gotham. It was perfect on Nolan’s part.
Don’t get me wrong, Joaquin did an incredible job. It’s just horrible the reason we got to see joaquins masterpiece is because of Ledgers passing.
He would still be doing romance comedies if it wasn't for Chris Nolan, he is the real mastermind of the joker.

@@josephpullium5026 No,
Hey, his Joker was already transformed when Heath played him while Joaquin's was showing the process or caterpillar.

The people in Hollywood mad at it were probably the same people covering up for Harvey Weinstein …
THIS IS THE ONLY VILLIAN YOU CAN LOVE MORE THAN THE HERO

Phoenix: Sociopath
Ledger: Psychopath
Leto: Squeaky door
Can you people stop acting like Leto's Joker is the worst thing in existence?

I don’t even like to watch other actors depiction of the joker because of heath ledgers version
He was so unbelievable in this movie.
Always scared me as a kid, so did the “SAY IT” from Harvey in the hospital
I jumped at both of those scenes. Harvey and Joker were scary in DK.
Makes me think of Brandon Lee's "Listen!!" to Tin Tin in The Crow.
Well said
Batman : “you think u can steal the dark knight and just walk away?”
Joker: ” yeah”
That bit kills me every time 😂🤣
that joker is just overrated
@@jodielouise3209 how about when the badass gangsters jump up out of their chairs and back away ...just because joker has a bomb strapped to his body and all he has to do is pull the cord...priceless

Vatic for what? I did nothing wrong.
This is how the joker character is supposed to be, not dancing or singing on the stage.
I infact never paid attention to a scene the joker was not in, in my opinion this was 100% Heath’s movie.. his acting is so surreal
Megan Ziggler Fr I wish he would have at least made 1 more joker movie but I guess we will only have this for the rest of our lives
Love when he grabs the champagne, tosses out the water, then takes a swig of air. Perfect level of crazy/chaos.
He actually grabs it out of her hand, it spills and he drink the rest.
LOL
Thats why he is free in all the ways we aren't.. he can drink from an empty cup, and it fills him up! You all see face paint and cool lines.. theres something more under that grease paint...
@@Merjedmedia he is also a fictional character. And no one is stopping you from drinking from an empty cup lmao
@@alexiscarmel4082
But drinking from an empty glass would violate social norms. Because you know we live in a society that rejects everything unusual out of fear!
If he is going to have an origin story, he prefers it to be multiple choice
That’s how the joker is. It keeps people from finding out his true identity. You can’t trace a story back if you don’t know if it’s true or not
@Bruce Wayne no, he’s more of a joker
I always thought that was brilliant
Not just the scar stories; every monologue he gives is contradictory. "If you're good at something, never do it for free" vs burning his half later because it's about "sending a message". "Do I look like someone with a plan" to Dent when literally every scene he's in involves him executing an incredibly intricate plan--including that very same scene where he detonates enough pre-placed explosives to level a hospital. He's utterly ideologically incoherent AS an ideology, and that's what makes him so compelling
This right here is what you called PERFECTION. The best joker portrayal I've ever seen.
