I was having the same problem and found out that I overstained my wood leaving a tacky residue on the top layer. The way to fix this is get some mineral spirits and a 220 grit sanding black and scrub off the top layer until the stain is no longer tacky. I wanted to try the seal first but didn't want to chance ruining my project. But I'm definitely glad I found this will work!
If you think you put too much and it's still drying, use painters tape to "peel" off the top layer so you don't have to sand as much later. Saves a bit of time in any case where you add to much or even see some orange peel
I'm building an outdoor table and want to decorate it with stickers. Per your tip, I will paint a layer of poly before I put the stickers in place. I want to seal the entire table after I apply the stickers. Should I seal the table and stickers with a water-based poly or is there another product I should use?

I used Mod Podge over my final design with vinyl. It worked great and sealed everything in place! However, I would have liked to have known to put the poly down first!

hi I have a wood pallet that I treated with the polycrylic, I can't get the self adhesive vinyl to stick to it. can I use the easy press over the transfer tape on the wood pallet to see if this helps stick the vinyl? also if once the vinyl is sticking to the wood pallet do you recommend giving it another coat of the polycrylic?

So… yes, this works… HOWEVER, after some time, they will still peel off. I’ve found that if I combine this process with using HTV instead of permanent, and then apply a touch of heat after I’ve applied it, it stays a LOT longer, especially for projects that ensure the outdoor weather.
I inherited some very cool vinyl-lettered wooden signs from a school fundraiser. However, there's a LOT of lettering, and in just a couple spots I can see the vinyl already lifting up a tad. What would you recommend to seal it? Is there some kind of recommended lacquer I could paint evenly over everything to get it to stay? I don't mind if the signs get shiny.

I understand using outdoor vinyl is the best to use if problem the items outdoors but I'm not really sure what qualifies as outdoor. I thought just permanent vinyl was but I guess there's something else that's more durable for outdoors.
Does it make any difference if using just a simple craft varnish vs POLYCRYLIC? this happened to me: I had a poplar board that seems like I sanded way too much that the surface was soooooo smooth, applied my stain (which by the way didn't stained that much but oh well) , then I applied two coats of craft varnish then I applied my vinyl 651, then I applied the craft varnish again "to seal the edges" ,I sanded it lightly and then applied my acrylic paint , when peeling it came almost all the paint off with my vinyl :(, question is.... Does it need to be POLYCRYLIC and not a craft varnish? Should I have used the 631, since the surface was pretty smooth? Did I need to be even rougher sanding on top of my stencil? I would really really appreciate somebody help meeeee sorry for being so meticulous with my question :( TIA
Hi! I stained some wood, did 1 coat of polycrylic and waited 24 hours to apply vinyl. As I peeled up the transfer tape, some of the polycrylic came with it. How can I keep this from happening again?
Same thing happened to me..on my next project I try to put it on after..but my letters still want to lift..a friend told me to try a heat gun over it ..I think it works

Seal your wood before applying vinyl so you don't run into issues keeping it on/applying it. That was the point of the video. Rewatch for comprehension

You don't have to stain the wood if it isn't the look you are going for. I have done just a coat of poly on unstained wood and it was just fine, too.
