    Hi Sarah.
    I followed your instructions for the 1st way to stencil to the letter... It bled so bad I don't know what to do! Maybe I didn't blot it enough? Of course my friend and brother says it looks good, but for me, I can tell and I want it to look good for my wife... Should I sand it off and re-stain and maybe try it slowly with a small brush? From afar it looks good, but up close, yuk!! It's a meditation table, so it will be seen up close.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  3 года назад

      So sorry this happened. Some bleeding can happy and I know what you mean, you're always hardest on yourself. My biggest suggestion would be to use very little paint. Less than you think you need. You can go back with a second coat if needed. This should help prevent bleeding. Best of luck.

      I typically don't get residue on my wood, but it does happen from time to time. Wait until everything dries then use a little warm water on a soft cloth. The spray should dissolve and not hurt the paint.

    Great video! Which method do you prefer most? We're struggling with getting the lines as clean as we want, and whether we pull the stencil up completely wet or completely dry it pulls up paint. How have you avoided this?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  6 лет назад +2

      My go to method is vinyl, the other 2 work well but I tend to gravitate toward vinyl the most. Make sure your stain is completely dry first, then transfer the stencil and press really well to get any gaps out. Use just a little paint at a time to build up the color. I like to pull up the stencil while the paint is still wet, if it dries completely you risk peeling the paint off. Good luck!

Is there any clean up at all or does it come right off? i've read that it needs to be washed out of fabric when using it in sewing so I have to be sure it;s not going to leave a stain or anything. • @SarahVanderkooy

      Be sure to pull the stencil of while the paint is still wet, if you wait until it's dry it will peel like this that's happened to me! If you peel when it's still wet and the paint still comes off that means it's not sticking to your stain. Be sure your stain is completely dry before stenciling.

    Hi there. Great video! I have a question about the Silhouette Cameo machine that you posted the link to on Amazon. I am also only interested in the reusable, first method that you explained about. I noticed there are a ton of really bad reviews about the product. People are saying that it doesn't cut well, the software is terrible, and the customer service is awful. Did it take you hours of figuring it out or was it pretty straightforward? I really want to order it if it works and is fairly easy to use. Is there another machine that does the same thing that you recommend that has better reviews? Thank You! :)

    How do you clean the stencil?like how do you remove the adhesive after using?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  6 лет назад

      For the reusable stencil I just use warm water and sometimes soap depending on the type of paint. The adhesive is water based so it washes off easily too.

      Sarah Vanderkooy thank you, I use the same adhesive on your link and I notice that it leaves some white spots. I painted my canvas with black paint, idk if that's normal or I did something wrong

      I haven't had that issue, but I tend to use lighter color stain and paint so there may be a residue that I just can't see. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    What type of paint do you use on wood? I don't see any reference to type of paint

      The paint that I use for the stencils is just craft paint, the kind you can find at any craft store or even Walmart. It's acrylic and comes in every color of the rainbow.

      Start with a site like dafont.com Or search for it and see if it is for sale on another site. Many of these sites offer fonts for free but some do require a fee.

    How did you cut out the stencil film? And vinyl?

    • @SarahVanderkooy
      @SarahVanderkooy  6 лет назад

      I cut the stencils using a SIlhouette. I designed the stencils using their software and them cut them. With a Silhouette you can also download premade stencil designs and cut them from vinyl or stencil material.
