I'm 74 years old and have seen my share of "would be" teachers/instructors! You are not only a very talented craftsman but also an exceptional(true) teacher/instructor! I will be watching your other videos in hope to learn to carve wood (almost) as well as you do! Thanks you so much for helping all of us! Tom
Great videos! Wanted to mention, in a pinch, if someone can't find carbon paper (I live in a small town and have run across this issue..lol) you can turn your stencil over, take a #2 pencil and cover the back of your stencil (just where the lines are you want to transfer, blank space doesn't need blacked out). Cover it well with the #2 lead pencil. Then turn it back over and continue as instructed. The pencil lead layer will act as carbon paper and transfer your image.
How can you not just love this guy? I am trying out my first steps in power carving instead of using small carving tools and i wanted to share a small trick. ( I have to save wherever I can so I can afford what I really need.) If you want to try this out, and you do not want to go out and buy copy paper, try this.... put your print on white paper you can see through a bit. Go boldly over the print lines, now flip the paper and go over the lines underneath with dark pencil. A one or 2 shot carbon backed pattern, ready to go. If you like stencil cutting and want to do more... THEN go out and get your copy paper!
Thank you. Sincerely. Once in a while, you stumble down a rabbit hole while looking for something like this and it takes a...while to aggregate the information. This is succinct, professional AND AWESOME!!! Keep up the good work!
I went to Staples today to buy carbon paper. She made me feel real old. She had never heard of it. I found it, bought it and will return it tomorrow. Much cheaper on Amazon. I'm just starting to power carve and find your videos very helpful. Thanks.
Works great for a large dog's nails, seems to hold a charge long enough. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR I plan to use a couple of times a week, lightly, rather than have to subject the dog to longer sessions. I read that it's important to move quickly from nail to nail so it doesn't get hot, but it hasn't seemed to be much of a problem. I practiced on my own nails first (they have a strong gel, I don't know about this for natural nails), to learn how to hold it. It charges quickly enough for me and I like the variable speed. Instructions are clear, no problem putting it together or changing the tip. Might use this for some legit woodwork, even.
Cant say enough how much I appreciate your positive attitude, and extremely thorough help here. You're an awesome man and a great example of what real masculinity and manhood is all about! Thank you my brother.

Hi Mat, brilliant video for someone like me who is 54 years old , and just stating out in the art of wood carving , you have taught so much with the information you give out keep up the good work, Simon
I'm really glad I came across your video. You're great at explaining and I love your step by step instructions.. I was searching for a wood burning tutorial and came across this video and now I'm thinking of trying out some wood carving
I subscribed, like the way you weren't talking down to us. You showed us and admitted the mistakes you made before. I like that kind of teaching. I even learned I already had the tools for the job instead of having to buy more, which made the wife happy.
I absolutely loved the detailed instructions but I was really hoping for the same detailed information about the carving. What kind of bit’s did you use? What speed? What kind of stain did you use? But I will look into more of your videos. I would like to see you explain in more detail the carving and staining applications. You are very talentedAnd can make a very well-done comprehensive video I look forward to more. Thank you

Im a total newby to this kind of work but have always wanted to make this a new hobby. For my first project I have this brilliant plan to use a 2ft wide by 1'6" in height and almost 4" thick, half moon shaped piece of a cottonwood tree that had been cut down at the apt complex where I live. It was cut 9 months ago and I have kept it outside but dry, and now I can physically lift it, as most of the moisture has escaped the wood. I know that cottonwood is very hard. I found that out when trying, first, to use general wood carving tools. So, now I've purchased a rotary tool and also a wood burner. I used an electric palm sander to smooth the flat of the wood surface but I still have serious chainsaw markings streaking across the grain. I'm thinking I can work with the chainsaw gouges and smooth them down in the areas where the lettering design will be. Im only putting the word Mills on the wood with a pet paw print as the dot for the 'i'. So... I've never done this before and in fact, the Dremel and the wood burning tools are still in their packages from being purchased. Question: Even with my simple design and ambition to make this an everlasting gift to the Mgr of the apts (for Christmas I hope), will this be a do-able project? Good wood or bad wood? Should I use a sealer on the wood to keep it from drying out further before I finish it and stain & lacquer it? Any pointers would be most appreciated. I've watched a few videos to get the basic idea but have some concerns over my choice of wood, which is being used to commemorate the 100ft tall tree that was removed from the property. It was huge and beautiful. And healthy. 😳 None of us wanted to see it cut down but the grounds owner did it anyway, so I thought I'd create something of beauty from it. Thank you for this video and Im going to keep watching more.
Using graphite paper instead of carbon paper might save you some sanding time: leftover lines can be removed with an eraser. The drawback is that it’s gray rather than black (it also exists in yellow, red and blue but I haven’t used those so I don’t know how they behave)
Maureen Chantry works with “normal” paper as well. As graphite paper is reusable I personally wouldn’t bother unless graphite paper was hard to acquire.
I just found ur channel and I subscribed 👍🏼 love ur work 😍Iam going to watch all ur videos Plz do more of these wood burning too Would Like to learn about this stuff Tfs :)
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with the world, I am just starting, in fact I have not even made anything yet, but am super excited to start.
Very nice video but, firstly it may not be known that you don’t need to cut the carbon paper to fit the paper, you can just use the sheet over and over again...secondly, don’t tape up the sides and two ends, if you loose your spot on what your copying you can lift the paper & carbon and double check what you’ve done, makes life a lot easier....best to tape paper & carbon in position on the wood...hope this helps 👍🏼
Great instructions! Not only did I learn how to print and copy in a style I have never used before; I also enjoyed the carving and learned a trick or two.

How would you go about putting a pricetag on the work you do. I would pay top dollar for any handcarved personalized wood but thats because i appreciate craftsmanship and au'naturale. In my mind a piece like in this video.......Id pay $29.99 is that about right or am i way below the price margin???
Good stuff!! Loved what you did with word and stretching the document. Have you ever transferred an image using the wax side of paper that has shipping labels stuck to it? Make your word document. Remove the shipping labels from the paper then install the wax side of the paper in the printer so the document prints on the wax side of the paper. Set to print in "mirror". Once the document comes out you put the wax side of the paper on the wood hold in place firmly and with a putty knife rub it into the wood. When you remove the paper the image transfers to the wood.
Thank you for not just clicking through the windows stuff, it's not so easy for some of us and computers are a stress box lol thank you again for the great work and video.
This was a very detailed tutorial. I once transferred an entire 4'x4' image for a carving, only to find I had the carbon paper upside down. Now I always double check. Thank you, great video.
I’m so grateful I found your channel I did my first dremel engraving yesterday and it turned out really good for my first time. Thank you. Looking forward to working with wood 🙌🏻

¡Gracias mi amigo! Me alegra que estés disfrutando de los videos. ¡Intento aprender algo nuevo al menos todos los días! ¡Es genial ver videos que llegan a tantos países! ¡Gracias por las amables palabras!
Thanks for sharing amazing video nice and clear and very well explain, your are an artist in carving, regards and be safe amigo., I will watch more of your video to get more tips, I’m new in carving and this video is going to get me started in my first project, thanks again.
Just got my Dremel 7760 and found your channel because of it :-) Starting to learn a new skills during Quarantine Period.Looking forward for more video tutorials from your channel .
I dabble in paper crafting and found a very useful product(s) - Adhesive Dots. A.C. Moore has different versions and sizes you can use. I peel a dot off of the paper strip it has and place it where I want. Then I can put another sheet of paper (...or whatever) on top. They hold great and come off just as easy. Give them a try - you won't go back to tape!
I etch glass a lot with my dremel but have never tried etching any other material. My goal is to start tho! Thank u for your videos. I have subscribed to ur channel and will certainly be watching your videos! Thank u again!!
Wow, how ironic that I just ordered a Foredom SR rotary grinder and a bunch of accessories last night. I can’t wait to start messin around. Appreciate your video, man.

when stretching your text the way you did it, it kind of warps the shape. By pressing shift when you stretch your text, it will keep the scale of your text so it doesnt warp or look awkward :)
Good tip!
After clicking transform, I don’t think text is re-editable at that point. Using shift while transforming is basically doing the same thing that increasing the font size would do. It just ensures that x-height and width of each individual letter remains proportional to the original font. It doesn’t really have to do with perspective. But in this case, his word still looked good how he stretched it because it was still readable. It was just an idea for future text enlarging :)

None of us wanted to see it cut down but the grounds owner did it anyway, so I thought I'd create something of beauty from it. Thank you for this video and Im going to keep watching more.

As Elvis said... hunk a hunk o' burning love :-) - nice video Cornelius, thanks
Haha, glad you liked it!
This is fantastic! I’m going to order some!!! Thank you for sharing!!
