Thank you so much for this. I’ve just brought a wood burning kit and had no clue where to start. The carbon paper will be a life saver!
Great! I’m so glad it was helpful!
Me too. Know to your next video ☺
What’s the carbon for
Transferring the templates
How do I not have the carbon paper smudge everywhere when tracing?
Perfect!!!! We just lost my dad last month and he was an artist. Able to use multiple techniques and tools etc. Everything from paint to pencil. Portraits to professional signs. My dad was a huge lover of the Wild West. So to salute him I am making a old west themed cook station for my ceramic egg cooker. I made a table for it and so far so good. I am planning to try to make a small sign that I can attach to the cook station with his name on it. I am planning on surprising my entire family with an unveiling of it and a celebratory first cook on the smoker. Wish me luck! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Clark!!
So, if you can draw, you can wood burn. I love that.
I've done a few pieces ranging from 1 hour projects to about 20 hour projects and I wish I watched this YEARS ago : )

You bet! I'm glad it was helpful. :)
I've always loved arts and crafts, but now I can hardly finish something. Since Father's Day is soon, I was brainstorming ideas & thought of creating a big sign for his beloved hen/rooster sanctuary/barn. I asked him, "if he had a sign to put up, what would it say?" My sweet husband says, "A scripture babe....'As for me & my house, we will serve the Lord'"
Point to my story...his response made up my mind....I'll be going to get all the things, to start & FINISH this project! I'm excited about it & can't wait for the challenges I'll face.
Most of all, thx for your video, very informative & straightforward!!!🙂
That's a great idea! I love custom signs. They are so much fun to burn. And you're welcome! I'm so glad it was helpful.

I had a wood burning set when I was in my teens and it was hard to do it right. It's a hobby that didn't didn't catch on like other hobbies or at least I never knew anyone else who did it. Hobbbies like scale plastic model building and others don't interest youngsters today. You do nice stuff !

A friend gave me a wood burner kit semi professional with a variety of tips. After seeing yours glow red hot, I realized, dang. My burner isn't working right. But, I know now , safety first. Template, carbon paper. Prep, and finish stuff. I look forward to getting more tips from you. Thank you for the video
I’m glad it was helpful!!
Super tutorial, thank you so much for sharing! 🤗
You are so welcome!
About to try my hand at this. I haven't done it since high school a long time ago. Thanks for your channel I will be watching from Australia, how you do your amazing art. :D
Let us know how it goes. I'm just about to try something myself, but it's on a stick, not a flat surface so we will see.
You can do it! Thanks for watching!
Thank you 🙏 I got this !
Thank you! This was super helpful. Would the type of sealer I use to pre-stain wood conditioner, stain, and then add a sealer. Meaning would I need to keep it consistent (water-based vs oil-based) I want to make Woodburn panel wall art to sell. So I want to make sure there won't be issues with it long term. Idk what words to use- hopefully, I'm explaining myself correctly. I just want it to have a professional modern/contemporary look.
For ex:
1. I am using a birchwood panel that I've sanded down.
2. Applied a clear spray-on matte sealer. Doing this also prevents with solution from bleeding outside of the stencil to maintain clear crisp lines.
3. Used chemical burning (ammonium chloride solution) works great btw. I applied a thin layer of solution on my vinyl stencil. let it dry then peeled the vinyl.
4. Used my Wagner heat gun moving it around to make sure it doesn't burn other areas of the panel.
I want to stain it which I know you can, but I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. I have miniwax products I want to use.
5. pre-stain wood conditioner
6. wood stain
7. Finishing sealer to varnish and preserve the art.
So would it matter if I use water or oil-based products? I am looking to sell so I want to make it does not look "cheap" or have people feel like they've been "ripped off" for what I'm selling? Poor verbiage but I hope my question came across. hope to hear from you.
Hey Chaotic! It sounds like you know more than me about it. LOL! You’re using a lot of techniques I’m not familiar with like the ammonium chloride and I don’t know what type of spray you used. Without knowing all your info, I have two suggestions: 1. Test out any new techniques you’re not familiar with on scrap. 2. Keep a consistent base with your stains/varnish, so if you’re using water base with one, use a water base throughout. I’ve never tried to mix them, so I can’t speak to what the reactions will be. Give it all a test on scrap and get a good idea on the what will happen before you do this to a finished piece. Hope that helps. :)
This is fabulous! Thank you!
Thanks!!
Very helpful!
Awesome great job I’m thinking about doing this
You should!
Great video! I make wood pens, and thinking about doing this for some custom pieces.
As a hobbiest calligrapher using a wooden pen sounds ideal in a ridiculously disposable world. Bamboo immediately comes to mind but a small lathe presumably turns most woods.
Brilliant idea!
Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to try this.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for this video. After watching this, I'm not so scared to try woodburning 😅😂🤣🤫🤭🤪 I LOVE HOW YOUR SINK COVER TURNED OUT! It's perfect! 😍🥰 Tfs
Thanks Arrows!! I’m so glad you liked it.

Yes!! You can do it!
Outstanding 👏
Hiya love your stuff ! out of all the videos ive seen yours are the most clear and easiest to follow !!
Just a question ive been thinking about giving wood burning a try in your personal opinion would you say its tough to get good at ? when im next paid i want to order the bits to give it a try , is it a case of either you have it or you dont ? how long did it take you to get it right and perfect your things ? would really appreciate it if youd be able to give me some truthful insight thanks ! love from all the way in the uk ! xx
Thanks Maxie! Shading and realism is the toughest. I had been an artist and drawing with pencil for a long time before I started wood burning. (see link below) So I feel like a lot of my drawing skills transferred over to pyrography and it didn't take long for me to start burning realistic pieces.
www.aneycarver.com/artwork/
If you want to get into burning realisitc pics, I high recommend starting with drawing exercises. It will help you understand perspective, lights, shadows, and how to break down images into small sections so that they are easier to replicate. The book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, is a great place to start. amzn.to/3IFdmvD
Ooo another rabbit hole for me to fall down Thankyou!! New Subbie 🎉
You are a beginner's dream .Thank you for the insightful video
Thanks John!! I'm so glad it's been helpful!
