I have been looking for videos like yours forever to help me with my cricut machine. I have asked a lady I know she just told me to u tube it to learn how. Well thank goodness I have found you , love the way you go through on how to do svg files and the details. Im so great full to have found you. Truly blessed
I just love your videos. You always get straight to the project. I hate hearing stories for 10 minutes before the actual project starts lol. You and your videos are awesome!!! I hope to be as great at crafting as you are❤
Awww, thank you for your kind words, Jessica! I am not always great at crafting, but am able to edit out all my mistakes!!! 😂 I hope you have fun while doing it - that is the most important thing of all! 😍
I searched absolutely everywhere for information on how to make a stencil. I was told to do in two parts but wouldn't do it because I knew there would be a way to do it in one. And your video has shown me the correct way to do it. Thank you so much for your videos. They really are a God send :)
Jennifer is just amazing, I completely agree with other people that she just gets into the projects straightaway and mention each of the details clearly for beginners like me. Thank you so much. I have watched few of your other videos but this one made me fall in love with you. Thank you so much :)
Jennifer, please take this comment as a GREAT THING!! You’re voice is so soothing to my stress migraines that on bad days I put on my headphones, snuggle up under a fuzzy crocheted blanket (my personal craft) and pillow, and watch any one of your presentations. Now I just may fall asleep during them, but I wake up feeling SO much better, and believe it or not, remember how to do the lesson I had picked to soothe my migraine in the first place!!! 🤯🤯🤣🤣💗. Thank you so much and Happy Valentine’s day!
Hi Jennifer! I am writing back to let anyone else know, who may still be using an older Cricut machine (I converted my Cricut Cake [Expression] to a crafting machine.) that you CAN cut vinyl with the Deep Cut Blade and in the Deep Cut Housing (blue housing). I used some Oramask 813 stencil vinyl and it did a beautiful job! And, most importantly, my settings were: "medium" pressure (3 bars on Cricut), "medium" speed (also 3 bars on Cricut) and I set the blade depth on the housing to "3". Anyway, just wanted to share! Thank you again for all of your tips, tricks, inspiration and for your willingness to be so generous with sharing your expertise!!
I’m new to Cricut and stenciling and hit a problem but thanks to your video it’s solved. I live in a little area in Nova Scotia Canada 🇨🇦 with only one craft store and with Covid-19 not all products are available all the time and mail slower than normal. I tried using a heavier stencil (one recommended) but found it bubbles. I had the premium vinyl at home so checked everywhere on RUclips and else till yeah I discovered your video. All I can say is thank you so much my projects have been able to be completed. Thanks so so much 👌🏻
I just received a Cricut for my birthday. I love watching your videos because I now know how to use it. Thank you for teaching me something new every day.
The dollar store sells those small wood plaques for just two bucks. I bought four of them and they work great for this project. I didn’t sand or stain prior to and my paint bleed a little, I didn’t know about using an adhesive or mod podge to block paint for bleeding, wish I knew beforehand, but lesson learned!! Thanks for sharing Jen! Your videos are to the point, easy to understand and simple. Hugs to you my friend.
My granddaughter was a feisty baby who fussed quite a bit and when she was 13 month old for Christmas, I got her a T-shirt that said, "Dear Santa, Define Naughty". We took a photo of her looking so impish wearing it.
Your videos are amazing. I work at a popular craft store. When cricut newbies come in asking questions, I always direct them to you. Thanks for making this easy.
I love your videos. I was always taught not to let ur paint dry completely when stenciling it makes it easier to get the stencils off without having to gouge them
I enjoy and learn from all of your videos. I would like to know whether you prefer this stencil method or using heat transfer vinyl for making wood signs.
Thank you for this video tutorial. I had some old barn wood and was so frustrated trying to get the vinyl to stick. Your video was such a help and the project came out great! ❤
Jennifer, thank you for this video, and the files. Total newbie here and just excited learning what my cricut can do. If you ever wonder about you videos helping people, wonder no more.
Have you tried this using an actual stencil dauber? The sponge type. I have one and it seems like it would be easier to do with that type of brush. Maybe I'll just experiment with both techniques. Love your videos! 😍
This is one of the main reasons I want to invest into a Cricut or something similar. I would love to do cool designs like this on wood! Thanks for the tutorial.
Do you always use permanent vinyl for stencils? And when would you use a non permanent vinyl? Just wondering about the difference between the 2 applications. I'm a total newbie! Thanks for all your help. Love your channel😊.
Not always...you can always use what you prefer. The reason why I used permanent vinyl for this was because it's less likely to have the paint bleed under the stencil. :)
Jennifer... thanks for the video. I found it very helpful. I was mostly successful, however, when I peeled up the stencil at the end, some of the paint came up with it. What might I have done wrong, or what do you think I could do next time to keep this from happening?
Hi Jennifer! I have a large vinyl stencil, wooden sign that was gifted to me last Christmas. The sign is similar to your Welcome sign on the video above. The sign is placed outside my front door and unfortunately the letters are starting to peel off - I love the sign and don’t want to throw it away, can you recommend what type of glue I can use to seal it back in place? Any recommendations or instructions would be greatly appreciated!
It sounds like you have a lovely sign that you want to preserve. Based on the context provided, I recommend using a hot glue gun with glue sticks to seal the letters back in place. Make sure to use finger protectors to prevent accidental burns. Additionally, you might want to clean the surface with rubbing alcohol to remove any dust or dirt before reapplying the letters. This will help ensure a better bond.
Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial. I've tried so many different techniques to paint my wooden signs including the modern podge and still had bleeding. But I never thought to put the mod podge after I put the stencil on. So thank you very much
FABULOUS tutorial!!! ALL your tutorials are amazing & inspiring- Can wait to customize my son’s new kitchen butcher block top island❤️❤️❤️❤️ THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR BEING SUCH A WONDERFUL TUTORIAL HOST❤️❤️❤️
Great informative video. Wish I had found you sooner. I've had so many project ideas roaming around in my mind. Because of you I can finally unload them. Thanks for providing so much detail.
I am new to cricut...haven't even purchased the machine yet. What machine would you recommend for a beginner, and do you have beginner tutorials? My ultimate goal is to make wood wedding signs for my daughters wedding next year. I have 11 months to practice! :)
Any of the Cricut's would work for wedding signs. You can cut vinyl with the Joy, the Maker and the Explore series. Here's a breakdown: jennifermaker.com/best-cricut-machine-buy
Is using the cricut stencil vinyl any different than just plain vinyl? Do I still need to mod podge it before painting? I have a cricut air explore. Do I need to use a different blade other than the fine-point blade? thank you for making these tutorials. I love them! I have even turned my future daughter-in-law on to you and your tutorials!
You will still treat your surface before you apply the stencil. We happen to prefer the permanent vinyl for stencils but feel free to try your own technique. Thanks for watching!😊🌻
Beautiful! We tried the Mod Podge Matte technique and let it dry completely ~ but as we were removing the stencil, the paint was coming up as if it was vinyl…? Any suggestions?
Hello Jennifer. Your videos have saved me on multiple occasions, thank you. Quick question please: I’m stenciling some thick birch plywood... using a clear glossy base coat, then the black stenciled design, then a clear glossy top coat. In this case would you suggest “Gloss Mod Podge” or still recommend the “Matt Mod Podge?” Thank you kindly. Nickolas (Australia)
This is of great help, I wasn’t sure you could use premium vinyl to make stencils. I’m new to this so I purchased stencil vinyl to make my stencil. I will make sure to try this method with the vinyl. Also, the mod podge tip is soooo needed! I had minor bleeding on a wooden sign this would have been right on time. Thank you so much!😊
Could you use a removable vinyl instead? I have an already painted sign so I’m hoping that the removable vinyl might be easier on the paint that’s already on the sign.
Im trying put my logo on this charcuterie board? Can I use this method? Is this okay for food surface? My charcuterie board is made out of natural bamboo
You did a great tutorial here! Well all of your tutorials are wonderful but I do have 2 questions. Do you have a tutorial on painting little designs on the little round wood slices that are popular this year? Have you ever or would you do a tutorial on editing your videos? It’s a new idea for you to do a video on. Maybe not a new idea but I love the way you teach with small steps and the way you explain things are fantastic! I can learn much better from you than anyone else. Thanks so much for all you do! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family! Xoxo
Thank you so much! The round wood slices would be made in the same way as this sign -- vinyl stencil + Mod Podge + pounce method of painting. :) As for a tutorial on video editing, I discuss videos (and more) in my Facebook group about blogging at Blog What You Love at facebook.com/groups/blogwhatyoulove/
Great tutorial! Any suggestions on what to use/do if I wanted to re-use my stencil? I was thinking of cutting the design into cardstock but then it would have no adhesive to the wood sign other than the matte modge podge. Thanks!!
I know you said to use matte mod podge but gloss is all I have right now. Do you think it would still work? Thanks so much! This video was very helpful.
Loved the red wood stain!! Never thought to do a colored stain!! But I do have a question - do your stencils ever leave a residue on the wood after you peel them off? Mine always leave a residue and I try to scrape it off with my nails or brayer but it ends up just leaving a scratch in the wood. Any ideas how to get the residue off wood?
Are you leaving it on a long time or heating the stencil up? Maybe try a qtip with rubbing alcohol in a small spot and see if it removes the adhesive but leaves the stain alone.🥰
I made my first sign and it came out beautifully. Is there a way to smooth out the texture of the paint from "pouncing"? I did go over it with the cosmetic sponge but the paint still has a raised pouncing texture.
Is there any way to reuse the same vinyl stencil or do you have to make a new one each time? Is there any other material you can use in the Cricut to make a reusable stencil? I love these!
Hi! What type of Cricut is this? I'm new to and really have no idea. What cricut do you recommend for wedding decor? Specifically stenciling items? I'm helping a family with her wedding but we'll see 😅 ... Thank you!
Great tips, thanks. I think the box will help with alignment, similar to a weeding box for vinyl decals. I love the Mod Podge tip too...I'm eternally grateful for the tips x
Hi Jennifer, love the tutorials! I wondered about a painted background with a flat paint....how do i avoid the pulling up of the background paint? and making sure it doesn't peel any of the fresh painted letters of the stencil. I also had a difficult time weeding the centers after the board was stenciled and dried. any tips that you may have would be appreciated. thanks so much for all your wonderful crafting insights that you share with us! have a blessed day.
My adventure with the tree began with projects from WoodPrix plans.
Love it!

Mod podge is totally the key. I learned that a long time ago and never paint without it!!
Mod Podge is definitely a game changer! :)
this is what I would love to do! Wood signs are so beautiful!
They sure are, Carole! :) They make such nice gifts and beautiful home decor!

Cricut also makes a vinyl specifically for stenciling and with the Cricut Maker you can cut thin acrylic to create stencils.
I know you said to use matte mod podge but gloss is all I have right now. Do you think it would still work? Thanks so much! This video was very helpful.

I made my first sign and it came out beautifully. Is there a way to smooth out the texture of the paint from "pouncing"? I did go over it with the cosmetic sponge but the paint still has a raised pouncing texture.
It's hard to say without actually seeing it but maybe a very fine sandpaper? 💗
Is there any way to reuse the same vinyl stencil or do you have to make a new one each time? Is there any other material you can use in the Cricut to make a reusable stencil? I love these!
These cannot be reused but I do have a tutorial on a reusable stencil. 💜 jennifermaker.com/reusable-stencil-with-cricut/
Hi! What type of Cricut is this? I'm new to and really have no idea. What cricut do you recommend for wedding decor? Specifically stenciling items? I'm helping a family with her wedding but we'll see 😅 ... Thank you!
You can make stencils with all the machines. Here is a comparison. 😊💜 jennifermaker.com/which-cricut-should-i-buy/
Great tips, thanks. I think the box will help with alignment, similar to a weeding box for vinyl decals. I love the Mod Podge tip too...I'm eternally grateful for the tips x
Glad it was helpful! 😍
Did you apply matte Mod Podge?
Do you have a video of making a wood sign with paint, but it has multiple colors and/or multiple layers?
