    If you're using an oil based stain, you really have to put a clear coat before the vinyl if you're not going to put one over the top. It's eventually going to peel off if not.

    If I was to make a sign like this for outside, what do I buy to help with this Texas heat. Would hate for it to melt or peel off.

      I believe it would be fine is using permanent vinyl rated for outdoors. I haven’t had anything melt yet and we have 100° days with high humidity.

    Do you seal the wood after vinyl is on

    What is the name of your vinyl and how do you get it to weed so perfect. Ex. The ruler

    • @idletimekrafts9816
      @idletimekrafts9816  7 месяцев назад

      I use Craftables brand vinyl. When weeding, take it slow and easy. As I show in the video of keeping the transfer tape at a low 45° angle when peeling away, do the same with the vinyl you’re weeding away.

    How long should stain dry or sit before applying vinyl ?

    • @idletimekrafts9816
      @idletimekrafts9816  3 года назад +1

      It depends on the environment it’s in . The colder or more humid it is, the longer it will take. Generally I’d say 24-48 hours. You can speed that up by applying a layer of clear spray paint to seal in the moisture a bit.

    I ALWAYS have a problem with my perm vinyl not sticking to my wood projects! 😢 I stain, let dry for a bit then seal with a polyurethane water base and then try to lay down my design and it still stays stuck to my transfer tape. HELP!

    • @idletimekrafts9816
      @idletimekrafts9816  Год назад

      Which transfer tape brand are you using? Cricut is often too strong and the vinyl stays adhered to the transfer vinyl.
      Be sure your wood is completely dry - any moisture in the wood will prevent it from adhering correctly, as well.
      Hope this helps.

    Do you use oil stain? Or what?

    • @idletimekrafts9816
      @idletimekrafts9816  3 года назад

      I use Minwax penetrating stain. It is an oil-based stain. I apply, wipe off. Let dry (usually 24 hours) then apply my vinyl. If needed, I spray with a quit shot of clear spray paint to seal the oils in (if it doesn’t seem dry enough or I don’t have time to wait).

    Did you apply a top coat to your stain before you applied the vinyl?

    • @idletimekrafts9816
      @idletimekrafts9816  3 года назад +1

      Ashley Nikol normally I do not, but I do wait 24 or more hours to ensure the stain completely dry. If it seems as though the vinyl still isn’t sticking well, I may spray with a quick clear coat of spray paint that dries quickly

      Do you poly seal it after you put the vinyl on? Will that hurt the vinyl?

    • @idletimekrafts9816
      @idletimekrafts9816  3 года назад +1

      @@the-hilliards I do not usually unless I’m making an exterior sign. It doesn’t necessarily hurt the vinyl, but I use exterior permanent vinyl so sealing isn’t necessary.
