- If you’ve shopped for a smartphone recently you probably had the choice between buying an iPhone or an Android device like the Google Pixel. And you could probably guess that the companies behind those devices, Apple and Google, are fierce competitors in a number of areas. But that hasn’t always been the case. Because before the smartphone wars, Apple and Google were very close business partners. Actually, the book In The Plex, written by Steven Levy, claimed there was so much overlap that it was almost as if Apple and Google were a single company. Because in 2001, when Google was still a three-year-old startup, its cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin approached Steve Jobs and actually asked him to become Google’s CEO. But of course Jobs already had his hands full with Apple and PIXAR, so Page and Brin decided to appoint Eric Schmidt, one of Google’s directors, to the position of CEO instead. But Steve Jobs did offer to serve as a mentor to Larry Page and Sergey Brin. And this began a very close relationship between Apple and Google. Jobs even persuaded Bill Campbell, who served on Apple’s board of directors, to coach the leadership team at Google, including Eric Schmidt, in order to help them succeed.

Well Android is far more popular with more than 70% market share globally ..only US is the exception where iOS has 60% market,..and Google has improved their software a lot,now Android has less security vulnerabilities than iOS,has improved UI Interface,and smoother.

They WANT to own everything that has to do with the PRODUCT THEY INVENTED, and yet they make terrible decisions with NO REGARD for the quality of their products. They make shitty decisions like making the AirPods only last 6 months, or removing the headphone jack, or releasing the SAME EXACT IPHONE TWICE, and shit like that.
Why would anyone want to own an apple product if they only want to farm and leech off as much money from their customers as possible. There is a reason why google is more popular than Apple now.
Then they make up crappy excuses like “oh it’s just a security feature”

also, at one point it becomes impossible to add additions to a phone when pretty much everything has been done, android is now only adding experimental features and iphone is just doing bug-fixes and the occasional major features
and about the headphone jack, i cant believe that in 2023 people still complain about it, there is genuinely no point of using a headphone jack when you could simply use a much better and more sensible bluetooth speaker / headphones
you dont have any idea what goes on behind the scenes, and their products are very high quality
in terms of - how it looks (doesnt look like a phone from 2070 with like 5020393 different detail, its elegant)
performance (very well performance that holds up)
battery life (newer models hold up)
camera (simply the best processing to date)
but of course, nothing is perfect so they still have some irks to fix, like cinematic mode making things look greenish on the iPhone 14 pro
maybe it'll be fixed in the 15 or 16, when technology comes out

People are scared of change thus they lash out and try to drag everyone else down with them regardless if the change is good or not (unnecessary headphone jack). People need to learn that technology just like life is ever changing and we need to accept change.

No one can be complete dominance in spite of how Jobs think there will always be competition, and it’s good for the majority of consumers.
Great video! I learned a lot of new things here. It sucks that there’s bad blood between them but they’ve learned to coexist and will probably help each other again some way. These tech companies need each other one way or another. Besides competition brings out the best in them and it’ll motivate them to keep innovating as technology keeps pushing forward.

No, it all started with APPLE copying others first. From the very beginning Apple copied Xerox to begin with. Even the iPhone was a rehash of someone else's invention in the 90's.
Jobs was a great marketer, but the tech itself was still copied if you want to go that route. Tech is literally just other people taking other people's ideas and adding on top. Everyone has done it. Apple included.
Steve Jobs wanted to act like the development of Android was somehow a huge betrayal, when in reality it's just the next iteration of what he did. The original Mac was of course a clone of the Xerox Alto, which itself leaned heavily on the Stanford Research Institute developed mouse. That's how the industry works. C++ was an extension of C, which was based on the earlier language B, which was derived from BCPL...

I would hope that in that moment of frustration would also come an awareness that there's some engineers at Xerox who feel burned for the same reasons. We're all standing on the shoulders of giants, regardless of our chosen field... and if we're so lucky to have some good ideas and contributions, someone will most certainly copy and build off them in the future. The circle of life and what not...

From what I’ve studied, Xerox was more of a research company - which had gained profit from Apple due to several deals between Jobs and Xerox - and they weren’t taking the computer industry seriously. Who knows what practices were behind this though, that’s how business work. The PC they were developing was seriously underpowered, and it was retired from the market with little shame. So Steve saw the chance, maybe credit was due to Xerox in this case, I can’t really justify this. But, this is just normal business behavior, a big monster vs a smaller company uncapable of fighting back. But when there’s personal trust involved, that’s tremendously different imo.
Steve jobs predicting that Google will develop a computer operating system is correct given that we now have Chrome OS operating system released publicly on June 15, 2011.
Apple and Xerox had a deal to use ideas upfront (100000 Apple shares pre-IPO). Google did it behind Apple’s back while it’s CEO was working in Apple’s BOD. It’s apples and oranges situation. It’s not the what but the how.

If Apple and Google works together again they probably create something called the Chromebook X and it would have features of the regular Chromebook like the flippable camera and they would also have it running Mac OS and it would have features like multitasking and the ability to stream and it would also have screen mirroring capabilities for the Apple TV

Google needs to create a new playground once iPhone gains popularity and market share because... it's gonna prevent them to monetize internet search as much as before. People is gonna more accustom to search trough apps, not web browser which usually using Google as a search engine. If people does that, Google cannot target them as ads targets. If that was going to happened, Google revenue from selling ads will be much lower than before.

I don't know if you guys didn't watch the video or don't get that I'm commenting on an aspect /of/ the video. A big point that he made was that Google essentially betrayed Apple by investing in a platform meant to compete with iOS which I think is biased because both Apple and Google have copied multiple features from each other over the years.

Obviously the iPhone came out first, and Apple gets major credit for popularizing the idea of an all-screen phone, but the Android platform had a lot to do with what made smartphones popular, usable, and accessible to people of all different income levels. What I'm saying is that Apple didn't invent the modern smartphone. It was a huge player, but it wouldn't be what it is without Google as a competitor which is why it's unreasonable to make it sound like Google just backstabbed Apple and stole their idea.
