Hey guys, I hope you enjoyed the video! What do you think about Apple’s stance of privacy? Also, don’t forget to take advantage of NordVPN’s discount at nordvpn.org/apple
Hey Greg, I think your video (as all of your videos) was excellent. Great job. I agree that on paper apple does do the most it can to protect its customers but also I can’t help but think some of the bugs (like being able to hear others conversations if you call them and they hang up) are deliberate. Also as a network engineer i would recommend tor or running your own vps with openvpn over any vpn company as they have to hand over all logs secretly when asked. 👍
Deda Oxide I respect your position. I think most folks do, even though the only ones who usually say anything are people who consider cursing to be an argument. I come from a family of computer makers, and I think it’s really cool and a lot of fun! The reason I still prefer Apple is that I see them as a software company. The hardware it makes is almost a part of the software, like letting the software be tangible for the user. That notion seems to inform a lot of Apple’s design. Choices and product curation, too. Changing the hardware would be like messing with the code, in a sense, so I’m cool leaving the phone as-is even as I continually want to tear apart and upgrade my pc! Heck, it’s part of why I keep my old 2014 Mac mini around even though my pc is so much faster
Thanks for this video. Been a longtime android fan until I've got informed. Next phone will be my 1st iPhone since the 5c. As for the phone being unlocked. I have it on good authority that no easily purchasable phone is difficult to break. If you want anything safe, don't make it digital.

I have alot of personal stuff on my phone and I'd like to keep it that way. Knowing the company I bought it from takes a very strict stance on privacy makes me feel safe when using it.

Tim Cook standing up to the FBI is what stopped my irrational hate of Apple. A hate that - in hindsight - was primarily due to the annoying user base, of which I am now a part : )
Fun fact: the US government also asked apple to ditch ideas for end to end encryption on iCloud backups and apple only did the FBI thing for publicity. It might sound like this is an attack at apple but it’s more an informative fact
@@immabeabitinactiveonthisac6700 I agree. Otherwise, I am sure it was not possible for hackers to hack into iCloud. And companies like Pegasus easily hacked into specific Apple and Android users. The truth everyone can be hacked, if you are not careful.
I have apple products and have always used apple products but if someone says “apple is bad” or “apple is trash” I don’t get mad I’m just like “Well it’s there opinion”.
I don’t think it’s about insulting phones. Its about insulting people. I’m sure that 99% of Android users are perfectly reasonable people, but Android fanboys on the internet are so fucking obnoxious. They’ll be like, “LOLLLL why would you pay $3000 for a phone with 512MB of RAM?! Apple users are idiots who don’t know shit about technology, but are too stupid to look at a tech spec sheet, and too stupid to figure out Android so they need a dumbed down OS that can’t do shit and just buy a fancy garbage phone every year because it’s shiny and a status symbol. Stupid Apple sheep, too dumb to understand that they’re being ripped off!” That was a comedic exaggeration, but by all that much. It’s not about insulting phones, it’s about insulting people. Android fanboys turn it into, “You use Apple products because you are stupid.” And, to be fair, Apple has toxic fans too, who say that Android users just use Android because they can’t afford an iPhone, as if iPhones are objectively better. But, tbh, toxic Android fanboys seem to be more numerous and louder. At least on the internet. In reality, Android vs. iPhones is far more nuanced. Both options have pros and cons. Neither is objectively better. You pick the one that you prefer, and that’s the end of it. Personally, I know a great deal about technology, especially consumer electronics, and it pisses me off when Android fanboys imply that people who use Apple products don’t know anything about technology. Again, what angers people is that they are insulting people, not products. “You use an iPhone because you are stupid.” “You use Android because you are poor.” You can also piss people off by just calling them stupid or poor. The phone part isn’t the main cause of the anger.

I‘m just gonna say one of my many reasons why I use an iPhone: It‘s IOS. It works so good, even on a 6s in 2019! It‘s fast, and extremely safe. I will soon buy a new iPhone, and I can use it for many years later. IOS is just great.
funny a girl replaced her iphone 6s because was slow..safe until you update I m to deep into the repair biz to be fooled with the claim that iphones doenst have problems
I really don't care about Updating Honestly I have a galaxy s5 And it's still running greatt with the old Update Because that software works for that phone alone, I like Apple But the updates are a constant bother... Why do we update many times do they Not have a Stable Os Enough to last for years? UPDATING All the time is bothersome even when you want to listen to music but your phones telling you to Update. I came across a couple of those updates myself In an Old iPhone 8 but using my old Galaxy S5 because I have more freedom and not stuck with a screen full of Apps. I like Apple But android Has their perks and Androids Have evolved In the past years Now I'm liking them More and more So i am uprading most likely, getting a Samsung galaxy note 10 when its released to see the new Os features, Samsung still throws me Security Updates on this galaxy s5 so that is the only update I like.
I don't use an iPhone anymore but how they handled that saga with the FBI has made me respect the company and I probably will for the rest of my life. Bitter truth is an iPhone is a fantastic phone that not everyone can afford.
If you're willing to buy refurbished you can find some fairly affordable options that are still very usable nowadays and with good amount of updates in sight (ex. iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 12 Mini)
Nicollas 1 it’s money well wasted. Apple knows how to make stuff that feels good, looks good, simple and fluid. It’s all about the user experience. If i were to resell my android phone it won’t be worth as much, but if i sell my old iPhone 7 it’s basically the same price as the Pixel 3a. The biggest reason why people still buy old iPhones today because it’s reliable and they still do software support for iPhone 5s and 6! I’m a tech entrepreneur and i need something that works out of the box and doesn’t break 1-2 years later. Apple has been doing that for me and I can’t say the same for android yet because I’ve been cycling through different android phones, with Apple you know you could stick to that one phone for a long time
Leader Tech apple confirmed this but it has a reason: trough the years they make your device slower because the battery is getting worse if they didnt did this your phone could crash deleting everything on it This seemed fake but someone replaced the battery once and after that the device was working very good also my air 2 did not become slower yet Also having only 2 years max of updates like samsung and android is also not good your phone will still get slower even without updates and it just sucks
Leader Tech If they do it, why Google won’t do it either with Android updates ? No arguments ? That’s what I tougher. iOS 12 was a very nice update for older devices, so don’t talk about a subject if you have any idea what are you talking about !
I use it for those stunning looks and performance gets me exited everytime i log in to work and longevity of their products. Seriously don't understand why Apple is considered costly since it generally lasts twice as long as it's competitors

I understand wanting to keep your information private but people who use apple devices tend to still use apps and sites where they put their info onto and your apple device doe snot protect that information. Apple users use Facebook sorry privacy is gone, same with twitter and the like. A lot of people as should everyone not keep important information on their phones I don’t care if it’s an apple product or not. Using an iPhone doesn’t make your information anymore private. Companies selling my search history or using it to advertise to me isn’t a bad thing and people should stop seeing it as that. Sometimes it gets annoying but if they didn’t do that I’d get shit ads anyway so I’d at least enjoy getting relevant ads. I understand there are other reasons for privacy but I mean come on reality is nobody has privacy even when using apple products no matter what security people say. You use the internet and social media and live in the real world then your privacy is long gone and if I really want to I can look you up as well as your family and their phone numbers where they live and their social media so if that’s privacy to everyone the. And a recent report found that many vpns (which I also use) are not even encrypting their cookies so they aren't as secure as you're led to believe either.
This is a highly valuable episode in your Apple Explained series, Greg. I greatly appreciate this. Apple’s stance on privacy is also a testament to the quality and success of their products and services, as they *don’t need* to sell our data to third parties, or to specifically target each one of us with algorithmically curated advertising. Very few companies would survive without such targets and external sources of revenue. Plus, it’s not fanciful lip-service on Apple’s part, as Tim Cook stood by Apple’s ideals when it came to the definitive crunch. A company is much more than its products.
Because Apple doesn't sell your data, it doesn't mean Apple isn't storing your data and already has a profile on you. Apple knows your interest, your work, how much you earn, your popularity, what you buy, what you watch, what you sound like, etc. They literally disclose this information in their user agreement/privacy policies.

This is something I discovered about Apple after I shifted over from android. I noticed that Apple was not allowing apps to read my messages. These were apps that, on android, would read my texts for bank transaction messages to track my spending “automagically”. I found it incredibly useful, which it is. But I hadn’t realised what an incredible breach of privacy it was until I saw how my iPhone refused to let it do its thing. From then on, I’ve noticed a wide array of privacy features that Android just does not have. I definitely feel more secure with my Apple devices than I ever did on android.
when you dont pay for the product, you are the product. why do you think apple's competitors' products cost so little money? because the rest of the money they make off of your data.
True, Android does have the ability to turn that off, but by default the apps can simply ask to have that permission. It's really shitty, like what's wrong with asking me upfront...ffs.

People keep saying that Apple products are too over priced for what they are, and for some products I agree. The Mac Pro is an example of that. But just look at Samsung, and their s23 vs their s24. The only thing that's different between the two are the camera and the AI features. Then look at Apple, who are at least trying. The iPhone 14 had the Dynamic Island, which was a good and better take on the notch. The iPhone 15 had the Action button, which could be binded to anything unlike the silent button. I think Apple has the more creative ideas, unlike Samsung that just going along with the AI trend. And the security thing is a good reason too. If you didn't have good security on your phone, which has a LOT of your personal information, then what's the point? You're just waiting to get hacked or even robbed. Also, Samsung prices are the same as Apple, so I don't know why people hate on Apple instead on Samsung.

@Daniel P 1. The iOS is based on UNIX kernel which is very very stable and reliable. Android OS runs on Linux kernel which makes Android OS highly customizable but as a result tends to build up residue in RAM and can clog up RAM. That is why Android smartphones MUST have at least a lite version of RAM cleaner app installed on every Android smartphone, as a peace of mind. That is the reason why Android smartphones require larger RAM capacity with every passing year. You tend to have the "need to buy a new smartphone every next year", so to speak.
@@BobDevV. Linux based OS is a hassle to install. You need to tweak settings in order to get it fully operational the way you want it. One case that someone once told me when using Libre open office, MS fonts don't come pre-installed so you have to browse distro to find MS fonts then install them to only tweak the settings in order to have MS fonts fully integrated and operational on Libre open office. It is quite a hassle. Didn't expect to just have office run smoothly when opening office just like that with no hassle whatsoever...
The point is... There is no big loss in having a RAM storage manager and internal memory storage manager for cleaning residual memory just in case... as a precautionary measure.
Your comment doesn't make much sense ios is based on UNIX kernel so it's safe and reliable While android is based on Linux which is more customisable It's contradictory because then since Linux is based on UNIX it should be safe and reliable and so should be android since it's based on Linux The whole point of UNIX was to make something customisable and could be run on anything. and Linux is like an upgraded version of UNIX and has all the advantage that UNIX has and even more
I'm not sure why people get this idea that Android is inherently built on a flawed design and just chews through RAM and has slow apps. This isn't really true at all. There are test which compare RAM usage of apps on both Android and iOS and they are both very similar. The reason why Android phones often require more RAM is the difference in how both operating systems function. Multitasking on Android is way less restrictive and more apps can truly run in the background and not be frozen like they often are in iOS. I can have a VPN running in the background, the way it would run on a laptop meanwhile in iOS this is often not the case. Android phones often have more background apps like launchers, widgets, VPNs, spam blocker apps. Even with more RAM iOS wouldn't be able to take advantage of it the way Android does. iOS devices with 2-3gb of RAM really don't keep apps in the background as well Android phones with 6gb of RAM so its not like they can get away with skimping on RAM so easily.
@@BobDevV Seriously, do you think that talking trash about Apple will ever convince someone to hate them as well? or will they even listen to you? no. Also, if you hate Apple or their products, just ignore them. There's no reason to hate a company that literally revolutionized the way we communicate, and the reason Android actually exists and made Linux popular. So I think you should be thankful that Apple made the iPhone in the first place. Also, stop insulting while you comment, thus maybe, but MAYBE somebody will pay attention to what you say.
I remember when I first used the internet for the first time back in the 2000s and my mom gave me one guideline for using it. 1. Never give out any real information about who you are as a person including your name, DOB, address, school/work, and any other identifying information that could be viewed as uniquely you. Until today I am still using an established made up identity for anything I do online that requires personal information such as online shopping, social media, etc and I still never understand how people can give out real identifying information about themselves especially on social media & calling those who don't as trolling fake accounts, like bruh you may not care about your privacy but I do.

The issue with Apple products is they won’t let you do anything the second you decide to do something a little technical and/or complicated. Happened to me TODAY. I was able to connect my iPad Pro to my workplace’s remote server access to store files. And the second I needed to access the content of one of said files, not being able to access it from anywhere else, it decided it was time to just not let me do anything with the file. I couldn’t even open it, move it, share it, and copying it did nothing. It even was a simple .txt file, and it should actually let me access even the most bizarre of files. But no. Maybe with the right obscure app, but this feels like a basic core feature of a computer.
Whenever I’ve talked to someone about digital privacy, the common argument has shifted, especially among younger people, from “why should I care if I have nothing to hide” to “companies already know everything I do, so why should I care if another does or one knows a little less?”

I have a question. If you use an iPhone & you have google & facebook apps, your arguement about privacy is useless, isn't it? Andrian Lee using the service (Google, fb, Amazon, &c.), of course, compromises whatever data you let the service access. However, Apple does prevent apps from accessing certain data about the phone itself, as well as info about the other apps used on the device. You will always have more data privacy on an iPhone than other devices. Still, until we have better privacy laws, it is still the user’s burden to keep data-collecting software off of their devices. And that’s a lot of apps! Look and see, odds are that Uber’s set as “always access location data” on your phone, even iPhone if you downloaded the app long enough ago. You have to do your research and read what you’re agreeing to. Even if you eventually have to give up data, the less you give, the less of a profile they can make on you, and that profile made up from data collected by several services put together is what’s the worst
Andrian Lee no, apple prevents apps from tracking you without your permission and have strict privacy policies for app developers. That’s why there was a bit of a feud between Apple and Facebook.

So I did something I never did before and switches my phone not even 1 year after I got it. I decided to go back to Apple, because "they just work" ! I got the iPhone 12 new for 670€ in Summer last year, so it was a good deal too and I don't regret my decision. Now I have a phone which functions like it should and I think I will upgrade when the non pro models get a higher refresh-rate-screen than just 60hz. So I guess I have to wait another two years. But its easy to wait if you a phone which will get softwareupdates for the next maybe 4 years. The privacy benefits are a nice extra for me, which I really appreciate
They were going to add that but by request by the government they didn’t because they don’t care about privacy they just use it as a marketing tool. Look at something like this (ruclips.net/p/PLR_ghQEN2SgAr8yFEinfcSuEKFYKKZB8N) if you want to actually know the truth on their privacy practices
I like my Macbook and my iPad being my everyday on the go devices but I refuse to get another iPhone. Android gave me freedom to use my device however I want. I got a custom launcher, icons, emulators, and can install old games that were removed from the playstore.
I like the ecosystem and the optimization of Apple, but I also like not needing to bring power bank everywhere I go, and I like having ads fully blocked across every app on my device, i also like having an actual file manager and being able to seamlessly transfer files from my computer to my phone without the use of proprietary software, and the ability to download apps, music and movies from any website directly on the device sorry but android still wins
Lol people here saying they care about privacy and stuff, while they are the very same people with an apple product using insta, face, Twitter, tik tok, RUclips and such. Knowing the problem does NOT put you out of it!
Samsung has the same philosophy but differentiate security from privacy and allow you to choose what information you want to share with granularity. That's why Samsung and apple are more frenemies than anything than direct competitors and both partnered with disconnect to have apps like disconnect Pro which is awesome. Google banned even the basic non knlc version from their store must to keep it from being named. I'm a fan of both ecosystems. My only complaint with Apple is I'm not sure why they stopped clearing their phones for high security Eg nsa certifications. Those types of certifications add to the crowd anonymity aspects.
Well if you use any Google, Facebook or Instagram apps your privacy is already dead whatever the phone, computer or any device you use. You could spoof your location for most apps, block the ads and tracking services on the web, use a vpn and fake your device ID for much better privacy. You need an android phone or a linux computer for that though.
Apple's disadvantages from the perspective of a long time Android user: > no back button > no .webm support > no Micro-SD support. You can only expand storage via cloud services > no physical Dual-SIM options > no Bluetooth file transfer capabilities with non-Apple devices > no USB tethering unless you do it through iTunes > no easy way to transfer files to and from non-Apple devices > toxic anti-Right to Repair policies > closed protocol software that forces you to use the Apple ecosystem > limited customization options > limited file management options Love their iPads though. Beautiful pieces of engineering.
I personally own an Android device but it is true that Apple keeps ur data secure I won't argue with that and keeping that in mind I'm may consider switching back in the soon future
Recently made the move to iOS specially due to privacy. While I am sure it is far from perfect in my opinion it is the lesser evil - at least on the data harvest and usage. Their production is another (ethical) matter - anyway thanks for making this video!
Why does this video have so much of hate? I know people don’t like apple - I don’t like apple. But just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you should hate

Why do android and apple users care so much they get so salty whenever someone says one phone is better, ITS A PHONE
Not when your career is one.

With privacy becoming more and more sought after in the tech world, I'm surprised by how little apple markets this.

For me, it feels like you buy your own data when you buy an iPhone.
And it is totally worth it for me.
Apple is actually close to any other company when it comes to privacy, they just make it look like they do so they can sell more phones. If you want to actually understand it I recommend you watch something similar to these videos ruclips.net/p/PLR_ghQEN2SgAr8yFEinfcSuEKFYKKZB8N

The problem is everyone cares about "privacy" yet everyone posts their whole life story online and gets upset when someone sees it. I know you mentioned this but it's ridiculous when it comes to those who literally share their whole life story online, and believe me it's not a minority group of people who does this.

Apple : Closed Source OS = You are the user
Android : Open Source OS = You are the admin

1. Hackers are always gonna target the larger demographic
Thats why Windows and Android are more prone to attacks
2..Hackers get through because of user error
3. iOS also gets hacked and just as easy
I've never been hacked on any Android or Windows device, because i dont make stupid mistakes like downloading unknown files
And anyway, Apple customers may not get hacked very often but Apple do worse to them on a daily basis.
Your comment doesn't make much sense
ios is based on UNIX kernel so it's safe and reliable
While android is based on Linux which is more customisable
It's contradictory because then since Linux is based on UNIX it should be safe and reliable and so should be android since it's based on Linux
The whole point of UNIX was to make something customisable and could be run on anything.
and Linux is like an upgraded version of UNIX and has all the advantage that UNIX has and even more
I'm not sure why people get this idea that Android is inherently built on a flawed design and just chews through RAM and has slow apps.

I have a question. If you use an iPhone & you have google & facebook apps, your arguement about privacy is useless, isn't it? You can somehow "control" it in the setting but in some instances you cannot use some apps/features. At the end of the day, google, fb & other companies already have your info. Am I right? I'm really interested in this issue 😀.
That’s why there was a bit of a feud between Apple and Facebook.
but you don't need to use this app/feature, it is always possible to find apps that do the same bu without compromising your privacy
