Earliest you can get this is straight after the events at Draklor Laboratory. If the text is too fast, pause it.
I also threw in a vid of the Rafflesia boss for the heck of it.
- Dustia trick: Yep, that method that perfect gamers use to reach a very high level right at the beginning of the game.
For this trick, you need loooots of Phoenix Downs, and yeah... just alot Phoenix Downs lol. Switch the game speed to the slowest, and make your hp below 10% (eg. hitting yourself or something). Go to Dalmasca Westersand- Corridor of Sand, and stay near the zone line. Dustia should appear out of nowhere. Throw a Phoenix Down at it, instant kill. The tricky part is that you'll need to grab the loot and zone out BEFORE the LP and EXP shows. If done correctly, when you zone back to 'Corridor of Sand,' it should appear again. From here, repeat the process and chain it until you get what you need. Yeah, my explanation is pretty brief, but I deleted my vid of the Dustia method. **You need Canopic Jar for Dustia to drop High Arcanas.
- High Arcana alternate method: You can steal one when battling any esper.
You can sell the following loot to get one High Arcana:
10x Arcana (if you've got Canopic Jar all this time then you should have plenty),
1x Feystone (get one from any entite or elemental monster),
1x Soul of Thamasa (drop from Oversoul in Necrohol of Nabudis).
- Finish the Marilith hunt and you'll get 1 Serpent's Eye.
- You can also get 1 Empyreal Soul for reaching the High Guardian rank, and a Gemsteel for having 8 Espers.
And that's it. Phew....

Some Tips:
1.For the Hell's Gate Flame, you actually need the Hunter's Monograph, not the Knight's monograph.
2. Making Vorres spawn: In order to unlock the Vorres spawn, you also need to have talked to the huntmaster in Phon Coast and completed the first hunt. (make the monster spawn by standing on the cliff in the designated area for 10 seconds). After doing so return to the huntmaster and MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO THE GUY NEXT TO HIM to enable trophy hunts.
Go the the area in the Necrol of Nabudis shown in the video and kill all of the enemies in the area except the Dark Elemental. If the Dark Elemental didn't spawn, zone in and out 4-5 times and try again. Zoning in/out will double the chance of him appearing every time you do it. Once it appears, use magic near it to make it aggressive and lead it to the middle the of the area right outside the locked door. (note: it's poorly programmed, and often you will need to lead the elemental around for a bit before Vorres spawns). Once Vorres spawns, kill the elemental and then steal from Vorres until it drops the soulpowder. If you want multiple soulpowder, don't kill him. Instead, move 3 zones away to make him disappear, and repeat the spawning process.
If you kill Vorres, the next best way to get soulpowder is by killing Etem in the special charter shaft at the back of Henne Mines near Zodiark. In order to get access to this area, you must have 10 espers and completed the Mindflayer hunt. Then talk to the magician guy in Jahara and he will open the way. You also need the warmages monograph in order to make Etem drop soulpowder (get the monograph by looking at any random hunt noticeboard 50 times, and then check the bazaar). Etem will have a 10% chance of dropping the soulpowder, so it's really easy. However be advised that the monsters in this portion of the Henne Mines are extremely strong.
3. It's pointless chaining for monograph drops. The % drop chance is the same regardless of what chain level you are.
4. Chaining dustia for High Arcanas requires the Canopic Jar. Getting the jar requires completing 3 hunts and selling their reward look in order to unlock it in the bazaar.

Horakhty's Flame - Hunt reward Orthros
4. Best way to get money to buy the Tournesol is to go to the room where you fought Zeromus in the Stillshrine of Miriam and chain the skeletons. 99 bloodstained bones will give you ~140,000 gil.

You only need 3 High Arcana total if you make Empyrial Soul and Serpentarius at the same time. If you sell 4 Snake Skin, 2 Serpent Eye, 1 Soul Powder, 2 Wargod's Band and 1 High Arcana at the same time, you get BOTH a Serpentarius and Empyrial Soul.

This is just a quick tip for bazaar recipes. You can sell just One HA and then sell the 1x soul powder 2x war band 2x serp eye and 4x snake skins and end up with the two items needed to make the tournsol. Just saves an hour knowing this. It's because the bazaar kinda bugs out. It reads the recipes like a tick box in a way. So when you sell the HA it instantly ticks the HA off ALL the recipes containing a HA. So in this case it reads it like the HA for serpentauis AND for emproyl soul. This also works for the masamune. That recipe contains the need for gemsteel, so the same thing happens. You can combo the sunflower and masamune to be made at the same time. Instead of 5 gemsteel, it's only 3.

I started this version in August 2010 and playing the International Zodiac Version on the PS4 today.
i fell in love with hunts mixing item loot for the best weapons and the weird interesting ways to summon rare and scary enemies sometimes being in awe of them before i fought or sometines lost before owning

Masamune is stronger if you're maxed out (9999 per hit). But earlier in the game when you're not maxed out Masamune will do about 4k per hit, making Tornesol a better option, if you can get it.

Old video is old but for those that still play this amazing fucking game like me. . A friendly tip : Monograph drops are not effected by battle chains. In other words, if you chain 100 leynir for the wargod's band. It will still have the same drop chance(5%).
You chain so you get multiple items at a time so there's a bigger chance of getting Hell-Gate's Flame and other rare drops.
Dude Hell-Gate's flame is a MONOGRAPH drop. And monograph drops are a fixed percentage regardless of chain level.

I know this video is very old but if anyone is still watching, like me :P keep in mind you only need 3 high arcanas. When crafting the empyreal soul and serpentarius together only sell 1 high arcana it will still work!

Cool video, man. Quick correction: You don't need 6 High Arcana to get the Tournesol. If you sell, 1 High Arcana, 1 Soul Powder, 2 Wargod's Band, 2 Serpent Eye, and 4 Snake Skin at the same time, both a Serpentarius and an Empyreal Soul will become available in the bazaar goods section.

High Arcana can be obtained from the Anchag also i got mine i got 3 from it but sold them accidently.Yes you can get Damascus Steel from Bune in the Pharos.it is rare though I got on first try luckly you can get 1 high arcana from a mark I forget witch one I will check.

@MrScottKramer you will get all quickenings. First quickening will be lvl 1 and second will be 2 and then lvl3.
@SuperLoneman beat the Rafflesia boss then go 2-3 screens from there. Really high drop rate.

@yanmpy1 You don't really need a chain to drop hell-gate's flame. Hell-gate's flame is a monograph drop, and have a 5% rate of dropping :D

Im at Lvl 75 with Baltier.
Lohengrin equiped (find that best for getting HP down to < 10%)
No shield
Magepower Shishak
Mirror Mail!
Ribbon (or set gambit to self - remedy to avoid getting doomed)
Gambit "Foe Any - Phoenix Down"
Make sure your HP < 10 % turn off gambits and enter where Dustia spawns...
Place yourself as close as possible to the zone line. He'll trow 2 Darks and then
comes close. When he does, gambit on! :)
no poaching is a technique you can buy in Rabanastre, use it when enemy's hp is critical

sorry, but one last thing, now i only need one more soul powder, but turns out that the first vorres i killed dropped a trophy, and to my knowledge, every rare game that drops trophies only appear once! can you make vorres appear more than once?

@MrVinism oh, damn, i killed him without knowing he'd give me a trophy, and i stupidly saved the game... at the time i didn't remember that we could zone out and steal again, like with the entites, and kinda like dustia... well, i screwed up this playthrough, didn't do the zodiac spear right, and now tournesol as well, i mean, i can allways get the tournesol, but only after pharos, and i wanted it before... oh well, gotta make mistakes to do things right! lol

SCARLETITE is the hardest imo i got two after a 33 chain so i'm lucky, but really, you can steal 3 from Thalassion right at starting the trophy hunting.
the rest is ok if you proceed far enough (to get a gemsteel from montblanc, and also the soul of thamasa and empyreal soul)
if you don't want to proceed in the story (for some reason, i mean most enemies at this stage, after draklor, are easy as pie, mainly with ZS and having a party with high level dustia characters :D )

you dont need to chain cerberus from them to drop hell gates flame since they are monograph drop,the reason why they chain them is to collect loot to have profit ^_^
if i sold three high arcanas and got Gemsteel before i got the ingrediants for the seprentarius can I still sell the ingrediants for the seprentarius and still get it?

@MrScottKramer All have their own special quickenings, for example: Vaan has only 3 quickenings in his licence map, that no one else can buy. You get it?

Took 181 Kills for me to get 6 Wargod's Bands with 5 Defender drops. The Damascus is so easy if you set gambits to steal party leader's target and take some damage.

chaining makes it easier to get the drop. honestly, I had more trouble getting the stuff for the arcturus and ultima blade, damn halcyon steals..

@darkstar1987lx find the dark elemental and get it to follow you around (don't kill) until Voress appears. Then kill dark elemental to get it out of the way lol

Damascus steel can also be obtained fron Bune in Pharos at ridorana in Penumbra
SNake skin/snake eye can be also drop by grey molter in MosphorAN the hardest thing is high arcana....its freakin hard from dustia...

There is a log in-game that has info on enemies you have defeated, and you unlock further info about loot or pieces of lore by killing a certain ammount of those enemies (which is stated on the very codex)
Hunters Monograph for Hell-Gate's Flame! - I spent 5 hours for nothing :/
Kinghts Monograph is needed for Damascus Steel though.

@darkstar1987lx It won't reappear if you've killed it... steal Soul Powder (don't kill), zone out 2 and then repeat the process of attracting Vorres with the dark elemental while trying to steal another Soul Powder. Hopefully you haven't saved after killing the Vorres yet...
