Works! Just get the 20 sec timer right and it may take few tries. Took me about 4-5 times
I can confirm this without a doubt. I JUST tried it myself and got it on my 4th close application try. I waited exactly 20 sec then once I went up on the deck the chest was there. I waited until the 4th time for the boy to stop at his dad and pressed X as soon as he stopped and got the bow. Great job whoever you are and thank you.
This actually worked! I tried running in and out for weeks. Thank you for this, I am now a proud owner of the Seitengrat.

Strange thing is that you wait more than 20 seconds when vann appear after load. Counted on video he appeared in 2:24 u just open in 2:50 or more lol

Ruins the game for me. When I have a weapon that can destroy everything especially when I didn't earn it, defeats the purpose. Imo.
It took me 5 tries, But i have an old ps4, so i reset the entire ps4 each time, not just the game. And then i used 4:49 and 5:18 as my time stamps and follow them to a Tee. The animations and everything have to match the Shrio's video animations (Vaan's arm movement for opening the door) EXACTLY!

I'm confused the name of this video says 100% of the time but reading the comments and trying this for a hour I'm. It sure if this is some trolling be or what and FYI the bow is strong but when trying to beat some of the harder bosses like the hell wrym omega an dother bosses even at lv 80+ with bravely and being berserker with the best in combo when equipped on the best chator to use it with the best equipment possibly on the user of the bow it is still not op its only op if used on crappy common enemies their a reason why the chest only spawns 1% of the time and only 1% of the 1% the times the chest will have the bow its ment to be late game weapon and hard to find everyone always ober hype this bow I've tried what's this video says with it not working for almost a hour and I've tried this countless times with no luck not sure if this dude did some off screen RNG Manipulating by or what
Got it! the timing after you reload on the deck is everything! I had to use a countdown/stopwatch app on my phone for it to get it that precise.
Nathaniel Hiers-Tamez so when do you start your timer? As soon as vaan appears on screen, earlier or later than that? Thanks! Been trying to do it, always wait the 20 seconds using the timer but I haven't had the chest spawning on me yet.
well I try to replicate the video to a T. timing out when he loads in and when he moves to the door, there is about a 5 second time span for that then from there after vaan gets SUPER close to the camera and we check his hair for lice (cuz lets be honest we staring at his head we might as well) is when the 20 seconds start. I've done it with success 2 times thus far. I recommend however u get someone to help you time it cuz i had to work the controller, the video and the timer all myself so I had my hands full lol.
Gets the thumbs up from me. Chest appeared at third reload and I got the bow. A piece of info for those wondering: I had Reddas in the party (obviously can't put him away) and it still worked. A1*****

In the video, you don't wait 20 seconds, it's closer to 30. Why?
The second time he waited 20 seconds not 30. When he waited 30 secs, he didn't get the chest.

If the chest doesn't appear the first time you dont have to quit out just leave the sky deck and come back up to 7 times if it doesn't appear by those 7 then close application and retry its worked well for me.

Are there any prerequisites for this do I have to have the game completed, I'm about lvl75 and not completed the game yet but I've even doing hunts and have only get behemoth king yiazmat and hell wyrm to go, this equipment would be a major help is the game to be completed beforehand
it does work, I spent an hour at it and then started messing with the timing a bit. It's something like 20.5 seconds. So just be a bit laggy with the timing and you should get it.

Has anyone tried post update? I had not trouble prior to the update and now I'm not having any luck. I'm aware of the fact that the update was supposed to "fix battle related issues" but did it mess with the RNG?
Holy shit! It worked! Had my doubts for a while but I finally got the timing down. Only took me 1 try with this method once I got the chest to spawn. I actually didn't get it with the 20 seconds thing. Just went back and forth a few times after 20 seconds failed me and it spawned. 4th time kid stops. Don't go too early. Kid stops, hesitate a split second and go!

Got today my second Seitengrat without waiting seconds or counting passes, or whathever. Just loaded the screen on the airship, press L1 when first Vaan appeared and starting to haunt the chest. In 30 mins i got 6 chest spawned ( 4 times i got gil for bad timing ). If the chest is not there after 11 runs, i closed the game and reopened ( only happend once ) loaded the autosave and repeated. Waited the boy to go to dad 4 times and when he stopped ( i mean when he turns and stops himself having both feet parallel ) pressed X. Got the first Seitengrat. Just one thing i'm testing for the other 4 i need, i think is everything bound to the CAMERA ANGLE when you find a chest. I'll upload an image if i'm correct.

omg, helpppppp. I spend few hours and nothing. Sometime I have the chest but no bow inside, just 10gils.
I tried eveything:
-reload my save and:
-- wait for 16, 19, 20 and 21 sec and open the door and come back
-no chest, so I repeat and repeat. Sometime one chest appear but when I open it when the child stop for the fourth time, but no bow inside. What's the pb.
I play with ps4 (not pro) in French version, and also change to english version. same thing.

I GOT ONE! I didn't close the app every time the chest didn't spawn. I followed an earlier suggestion in the comments and just loaded the appropriate auto-save, and zoned in and out several times until the chest spawned. I was going to max it at 10 zones before closing the app, but it popped after 5 zones. Waited for the boy to approach his dad the 4th time, and bam!
FYI I'm on the original PS4. 2013 original.
Question though. Once you get one, if you want more, I presume you go and save off the ferry, then get back on and create a new auto-save, et cetera?
Left the game awhile, came back. Did the exact same method, got one 10 gil chest, the next another Seitengrat. It works guys. :D

Whats does RNG mean ? Also i got the bow in 15 mins but tried for 3 hours after and couldnt get the chest to spawn but did everything the same when i got bow the first and only time ive got it to spawn.

Sensesfail Warped This method only works for about half of people. Sometimes it just doesn't work for certain PS4s. Mine it does not work for. There is a method that worked for me though.
sorry for the late answer. I didn't do it,because i don't want the Seitengrat yet , i was just stunning with this method.I will try to get it after certain point of the game, but according to First United Church of Latter Day Boatheism its seems this method doesn't work for everyone what a same.(i hope to work for me xaxa)

Holy crap it did worked for me xD lolz i did it exactly as described on the video, using a PS4-pro first edition (just in case it gets revised and stuff) ... if the 20 seconds matter, i started the stopwatch on my phone as soon as van appears after loading the game, and imma say +1 second margin error.
I read here and other sites of people farming 6 of the bows but after my (luckily) first try, the chest didn't respawn anymore. =Y

HAHAHAHA! I had my game of thrones music playing. It get's epic, I am standing in front of the chest. The boy goes to his dad once, twice, three times, the music gets crazy then stops. he stops at his dad AND BAM I get it on the FIRST CHEST. Great method Bravo.

I get the chest to spawn when I wait 30 seconds not twenty seconds. I only get the 10 gil though and I have yet to get the bow.
Strangely enough every time i tried waiting 20 sec it didn't work, I waited for 13 seconds and the chest was there, waited for the kid to do his thing and I got it. I think the 20 sec thing is just total RNG, but the thing with the kid it did give me the bow at the first chest.
Knowing this.....make me wanna start all new again fresh off the boat.....kinda f up the job

Just tried this and it worked. I did have an issue with the chest actually spawning, but after about 30 tries, I got the bow on the first time the chest appeared. If you load the game, do the 20 second thing, and then the chest does not appear, you do not have to keep reloading the game. Just go back to the Observation Parlour then head back outside to the chest. I ended up reloading the game after about 10 tries, but I ended up getting the bow after going back to the Observation Parlour a few times after reloading the game.
Of course, once you actually get the chest to spawn, then watch the boy meet his dad 4 times. I was getting frustrated about the chest not spawning, but when it did, it worked...
Doesn't work on all ps4s. Depending on your region and purchase date the rng may vary on your system
Just did it and it method still works. Not 100% of the time, it took me about 20 min and several tries but in the end it works.
To confirm just worked fir ne, first try. Awesome.
I've tried again and again and again and again for about 45 mins.. and the chest wouldn't even appear. I took off all my gear that gives character a permanent stat boost libra, protect, shell etc and then two tries later it worked(idk if it was related to the gear but better not to risk it right?).... also you don't have to reset after every try and you only need to do the stopwatch once. Afterwards you can just keep running back and fourth up to 11 times( according to another video I watched) before you reset again.

I just want to say after a few tries with the chest spawning, i got the bow on my first chest spawn! Not even joking great method
I actually can't believed this worked -- I saw this video thought it was a bunch of bullshit spent the next 2 hours on 4x speed got the chest to pop up twice and got 10 Gil --- then decided to do the auto save thing and got it on my second load

My sister and I used this video as a timer for the 20 seconds. It works we did it twice.
So, you do count to 20sec. Then you don't have to quit the game. instead, go back inside, then back out to the air dock, then back inside then out, ect. I did it 10 times in and out. I collected 6 of them already. If you tried it 10 times and nothing, quit the game then reload and try again. i had to do it a few times but it will spawn. the kid running back and forth, that he does do it 4 times and once he immediately stops, open it.
I have tried this countless times and it still wont work. Other people are having the same problem. Clearly there is another element to this RNG that you dont know about, that is screwing it up for people. Whether its equipment or something. There has to be something else going on here.
