Thank you for this most excellent video. I greatly appreciate you burying the coins and measuring their depths. You are a master at explaining the methods and the results!!@
I expected a bit more of an improvement between the 2 coils, the 15” coil was always going to be deeper but wasn’t by much, the standard coil performed amazing in the test. Excellent video and explanation was bang on great work Sid 👍👍👍
kevin mountford just keeping it real matey 👍🏼 that extra inch or 2 could make all the difference, if you look at results the larger the target the more gains the large coil had 👍🏼
Wow my man you have ambition! Good for you. Who wants to dig 21 inch holes! I have an equinox 800 and have the two coils you tested. I can see that the 15 inch coil will give a couple inches depth, but I agree with you the coverage is a significant factor. I much prefer swinging the 11 inch coil if the finds tend to be shallow because of the lower weight. Honestly though it is not much fun digging holes more than a foot, especially if you find rubbish on a few holes in a row. I actually have a backhoe for targets 21 inches deep lol. But only for use in my fields ! I really appreciate your video. Very thorough. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the test. I will be getting a 15 inch coil for my Equinox 800 . Will try the single tone setting that another guy on here is suggesting and see if that makes it go deeper. Thank you from Australia.
I really appreciate the efforts you go to in order to show honest tests, and its looks very good. But as with any machine, we dont stand over an area and go back and fourth, It would be good to see tests where you make one single swing, just like you do when you detect. It's the first swing at normal speed that either stops you or not, nothing else. I see most people on the Equinox do not go that low on reactivity, so maybe thats food for thought for Equinox users when working pasture, regardless of coil. Many thanks Sid. ATB MMMD
Mud Max Metal Detecting 100% agree i just wanted to see how deep it could go at a push... now you lot need to put the hours in in the field... 👍🏼 happy searching 😜
Hi only now just seen your video , 2 years later 😂. Brilliant video , can you please tell me the best setting to the max with the 15inch coil . Appreciate your time and well done on the video 🤩🥇👍
Enjoyed your video, I too hunt With a 15” coil. Sometimes I use a different frequency to bring ing sounds without Visual numbers. It helps me to choose my best targets.
Thanks Sid for sharing this great video, I used my 15” coil today on the beach, I was,nt sure with it, but after seeing this video, it’s goes deeper. Thanks mate
good test. i'm not into the air tests but for the difference i can't merit spending the money on a coil to gain 2 or so inches. keep up the good videos
Dirt Bandit im not here to try sell products just showing what performance is 👍🏼 i will say the ground coverage is really good and help to find the productive areas faster and if you had a field that produced the goods the extra inch or two gained could make all the difference 🤩👍🏼
Love my 15 inch coil it does great in mi in my soil i also use it with my xterra pro really shines on that machine thanks for your vids u rock sid i have 5 machines now your bigest fan swing on bro 👊
Really appreciate you doing these videos. Gives us an idea what to expect. The 11" is really great and the 15" adds those couple of inches it seems. What really appeals to me though is that extra ground you cover with it. One thing I would say, although I might be wrong, when doing the test on the silver hammered coin, you seemed to have the 11" coil off the ground more compared to the 15" coil. Just an observation.
Anfibio or impact. With the im40 coil will do much same as the 15 inch minelab coil . 2 inches. My im40 coil the meat of £200.00 that's £100.00 an inch
big coils are about signal balancing. cranking it up does not always give you the performance that you want. my try would have been with some reject to assign targets and maybe lower Gain--around 18. This method with the CTX big coil has produced some amazing results. you are more likely to get performance gains at 23 + Gain with the stock coil.
Thanks Sid for honest review realy impressed with standered coil , my nox comes tomorrow cannot wait . Checked your settings out and will use one day but will get used to standered settings first , cheers Dave
You crack me up, cant wait to meet you, just hope you dont go any deeper, your fall in! If you do, you can always visit the Minelab head office in Australia and ask them what they are playing at, making detectors that go so deep! I am getting an equinox 800 in two weeks, what is the best digging tool you suggest and pinpointer for accuracy and depth...Thanks, i think your name is Sid right???
Add mineralization and plenty of nails and at those settings, it would just false all day. But still impressive for a clean pasture site. The nox is not very good at iding iron , bouncing numbers USUALY INDICATE Iron . A locked on target swept at various angles between 2-3 numbers are as good as you get on the Nox. I like the nox, just dont rate it too highly on iron infested sites. It struggles with falsing unless you tame the sens below 18 and up the reactivity to at least 5-6.Turning iron volume off gets rid of the annoying ground chatter. But you need to use more tones than 2.Preferably 50 or 5.To be honest though.Id give up at a foot and call it deep iron.lol.
I’m wondering how each coil effects the depth gage read out on the detector. Does the machine know what coil is connected? Seems to me that would change things a lot.
I would like to see a hoard replication test, I've got a detech 15x12 but not been detecting yet cus of covid but might get a load of coins in a sandwich bag and air test them
Well done Sid .Getting into heart attack territory LOL. Did you GB ? I did a test on a heap of 22 copper coins at 14 inch . The 15 banged in lovely 2 way rec 4 Iron 3 sens 20 . I lost the signal when lifting the coil at 22 inch . The 15 is icing on the Noxie cake lol. My local area is iron infested also rife with ,coke , hot rocks as a mining area and the 15 works fine usually knock the sens down 2or 3 from the stock just to get ride of the falsing . I am leaving mine on as I am set up with it . I have had 0.22 pellets at 6/7 inch .Great test nice one .
It appeared on the video you were a few inches below center . I think if you were centered on the height better it would have been a bit deeper. Great job though so far.
Hi sid would you say the 11 inch coil is more sensitive to small bits than the 15 inch ? Im asking because im not digging lead pellets and shot with the 15 cheers pal
Frigging hell we are gonna need a mini digger to go detecting soon 😂 Nice 1 Sid thanks for the demo with this monster and I’m defo getting that 15” coil 👍
Love the testing Sid,But would there be any difference in a buried test if you could make a side pocket in the test hole so the coins is under some undisturbed ground?
TerminalMeltd0wn to be fair there wasn’t much loss compared to air test results so results will be virtually the same if not better on a target thats settled over many years, only time there will be a loss is if any contamination in the soil...
The Ferret Metal Detecting the smaller the target goes the shallower your get.... to be honest i wouldnt wanna go much deeper...lol the depth on the hammy was crazy....
Hi i have downloaded your settings to my nox 800 and dropped iron and recovery to still and still cant get a pre decimal penny over 17inch like your 19 using 11 stock coil air test. Any reason why it may be ? The only difference is its in field 2 but ive adjusted all parameters to ur other settings vodeo in decripstion many thanks
How does the stem handle the big coil. I had one on my old c scope and found i used to have to get dangerously close to over tightening it and the balance wasn’t ideal
This is the third test I have seen now in which the performance of that 15" coil is not that impressive. Considering that it's 50 % larger in area that the stock 11" it should be hitting much deeper than it does. For me, the difference in depth is not large enough to warrant the extra cost. I'll stick with the stock 11"" as it performs very well and I have elbow issues and the extra weight of that 15" also would be an issue. I will tell you though I have the 6" coil and that is worth every penny!. Cheers!
Hi , don't know if you will see this but I read that the 15 inch coil gives a 8 to 30% increase in depth depending on soil conditions and interference from EMI signals. I myself just bought one and will try it using a counter balance to offset the weight difference. Even if I only get an 8% improvement ,that could very well mean the difference between walking over a target or getting a blip on-screen.
You messed up....u have to do 1 TONE MODE when you’re wanting extra depth....Park 2 & Beach 1 would be nice to see , my 15” coil is on the way...1 tone mode will make u get an extra 3inches.
It would be interesting how your 15 inch coil goes on single tone . I am going to order a 15 inch coil for my Equinox 800. I own one over 12 months ago but some bastard stole it . Mongrels; anyhow bought a new one while Sale was on. I will be mainly using it on the Beach and in Parks. I will have to try this setting u are suggesting. Could you explain it in more detail please as I have used a metal detector for a while.
because the 15" coil is elliptical it will not give the same depth as a 15" round coil. it is more comparable to a 13" coil if forget the mathematics but there are video's on you tube to explain. the main benefit of an elliptical coil is being able to push it into tighter spots. eg: i have a 17" x 11" coil which has the same depth as a 14" coil. just covers more ground.
You using a metal ruler and you leaving in coins in front of the coil this takes away from the metal detectors true depth the test is GROSSLY INACCURATE SORRY.
Best Equinox coil test I have seen. I really appreciate all the hard work you put into it. Thank you!
Randy Lunn thanks for feedback randy 👍🏼
Absolutely true!, Very detailed test, thank you for you effort!

Thank you for this most excellent video. I greatly appreciate you burying the coins and measuring their depths. You are a master at explaining the methods and the results!!@
I'm very impressed with the 15" coil. It's very well balanced and the slight extra weight only helps it track the ground more efficiently
I would like say to you this is the best test and the real test thanks alot for u .I don't believe the air test at all. Thanks again for u🎉
Thanks Sid, considering buying the 15 inch coil for the Nox, this is by far the best review/ test on RUclips. Thanks for this n for all ya digging.

Air tests are always deeper than ground tests
Surprised your using imperial instead of metric. A thank you from the U.S. guys!
better ground coverage but the signals it got that the 11" didn't I dont reckon you would have dug. Great test pal
Must be good mild soil there Sid, I get 7"-8" on a hammered penny on my own test, pretty good as my soil is higher mineralised.

Great test Sid, looks like am going to have to go and buy a 15” coil now. Could even do better than my 10” on the beach.
Have a go at using the individual frequencies as the factory presets on multi frequency have been biased. Hope that makes sense

sometimes a ground balance will eliminate a lot of the iron grunts, on some sites is just the mineralisation giving iron signal
