Finally received my Manticore. Took it to a local beach I've worked a lot with my Equinox 800, and was amazed at finding long buried coins I'd missed! I love the target trace feature which greatly eliminates digging only to find iron trash. The Manticore rocks!!
Hi, nice video. I have a Manticore on the way. Just a head's up, Ticks... are dormant, not hibernating. The first day they can be active they do so. I found a deeply embedded tick in February 23 in Connecticut. I didn't expect that so wasn't prepared. What I normally do is soak my clothes in permetherin, dry them and then wear them and ticks will be killed but no issues to you. You can buy some clothes pre imbued with permitherin for this purpose from outfitters. Do a google to find out ratios & you won't have to worry about ticks any more. Thanks for the video!
Love my Manticore, some of my old hammered sites have come back to life. I have found two silver rings, an 1811 Classic head large cent, and a 1944 walking liberty half dollar on trashy sites that have been beat up. The Fast program is amazing

Found another old park, but last weeks rains left it flooded out in most spots. I bought the 900 for the waterproofing so I can hunt in the water, but digging plugs in a flooded park was not my intention. Congrats on the Merc. My first silver coin was an SLQ and a bucket lister.
@14:17 More times than not, when you remove the plug and the detector won't hit the target anymore in normal mode, the detectors pinpoint mode will still get it. That may be because pinpoint mode is in all metal mode and full sensitivity.
Merrill, The mystery object at 9:40 is a metal wedge used to hold on an ax or hammer head onto the wooden handle. Once the ax is placed on the handle the wedge is driven into the top making it a tighter fit, more than one may be needed.
Love your videos and comments, I will tell you I was on a club hunt with my detecting club here in Eastern NC, was on a field next to other detectorest using Whites, Deus2 and Equinox 800, came in right behind them and pulled a 1789 Larger Cent about 10” down. It screamed on the Manitcore was a fun day to say the least. That was my deepest good find so far.
Sir Merrell loved the video!, have watched all your videos using the Manticore, my opinion is that i believe the Equinox would have found everything the Manticore has found for you on your hunts, to honesty say it's better,i don't think so at least not yet?, it hasn't impress just yet, only time will tell, carry on and will keep watching.
I just got my manticore two weeks ago and 4 large cents my first seated half dime last Saturday 6 mercury dimes one walker and 10 wheats in a 10x 10 area I’m very impressed oh and 3 rings two on the beach
Great video Merrill, I definitely have some personal opinions about the Manticore. I was a diehard Minelab guy (600&800) I bought a Deus l, hated it because of the tones, bought a Deus ll because of the optional square tones and absolutely love it. Then I bought the Manticore and besides the target trace, I didn’t see a big difference over the 800, so I sold it to a buddy I hunt with and I think the Deus ll is a much more capable machine. That being said, I’ve never had the manticore on the beach but I know my Deus ll is a beast like the 800 so I stuck with my Deus ll as my go to machine and my 800 for the beach ( not a fan of the wire on the Deus ll and I lost it😔) keep the videos coming, I learn a ton about beach detecting from your channel and it pays off immediately!!
Hey Merrill, the thing you found at 8:45 is a small gauge rail spike. Small track for ore carts, etc. The piece right beside it was the head of the spike. I'd love to be detecting, but our ground is still frozen.
Have to be honest, when I first started watching your channel, I thought you were kind of a goof. Nothing wrong with that but almost felt it was almost over the top. But the more I watch and the more you do with comparing of the detectors. I thought when I started watching that if you stuck with just one detector you might be able to find more due to sticking with one machine you can learn more all the time about it and get the most out of it. I still kind of feel that way, but that said, I do appreciate what you ha e done and the picking apart of the machines and your opinion on the value of a machine. If the Manticore has a bit more of this or that, but it doesn't knock your socks off. Then to me the same as you mentioned...why pay the extra for not that much more. To me it looks like they just wanted to compete with the same price (and look of) that of the Deus 2. I own the CTX 3030 and the Deus (the first one) and live both those machines...even if the Deus is in love with bottle caps. My first 2 times out this year have been with my 3030. Might have to go back to the same location with my Deus to see if it can sniff out anything else. Pulled 2 silver coins and a silver ring from a spot that I had hit last year and pulled 2 other silver items from. It's been a good site for me. I tell people when they ask me what is the best. I tell them they all have their place and nothing will find it all. Any new detector that operates on a different frequency than those of the past will pull even more items out of the ground. It's just the way things are. Keep up the great work.
Finally got my hands on one 2 weeks ago and took it to a test run this weekend, when I got to the local park I realized I didn't have a pinpointer with me 😂 so I had to drive back home a get one (on my xplorer II I have the sunray probe attached to the detector) overall I think is way better than the xplorer II I just have to get used to the new numbers. I got a bunch of change and 2 rings and also a lot of trash that honestly I didn't have to dig but I was just digging everything to be safe. Cheers from California and happy hunting.
@@baneverything5580 Live videos of the X-Terra Pro show coins reading as iron in all frequencies, air tests from other videos show its limitations of depth are approximately 11 to 12 inches even with the 12 inch coil, but for people at the beach it's still a strong contender. Using old school Whites machines I found coins from the mid-1700s at no deeper than 9 to 10 inches, so target range depth is not the most important issue for me as a Nokta Simplex and Qwest Q10 Pro user, it's that casino slot machine sound of the Minelab and serious processing delay!. Notice the sounds are heard only after the coil has passed over the target. What I love about the Nokta Simplex is the old school threshold that enables you to find the deepest targets. Nokta plans to update the frequency of the Simplex from 12 to 15 MHz which will totally destroy its depth making the Minelab the leader of the pack, so sad. Any thoughts?
I would also add that I have found pennies and dimes deeper than the 9 inch mark with the Deus 2. It also seems that the 9 inch coil on the Deus 2 is as deep or deeper than the Equinox 800 was in my soil with the 11 inch coil. The Deus 2 with the 11 inch coil makes me wish I would have grabbed the larger shovel some days.

I've been using a nox800 for 3 years, and I now have Manticore. I've been out a few times in my country house backyard. What i've noticed, i never dug so deep in my yard for targets. I guess 2d map + sound helps a lot, compared to nox800. Area is loded with iron, so i guess that is the reason i did not dig those too iffy targets, but Manticors 2d map made my decision to go for it. Found coins, buttons and other stuff. One thing with Manticore i do often miss my target, pinpointing feels a bit off. Maybe i do need to get used to it more. Greetings from Lithuania 🇱🇹
Thanks for your opinion 👍. Yes. Manticore is expensive. But in my opinion, price is not important. Just get a detector that you like... So my Manticore delivers what I want. And probably a good choice for many years
Dude i love how much time and effort you put into your videos! I have learned so much from your videos and really enjoy them. Im going to the beach this week and im excited to use the things ive learned from your videos. I know it take alot of time and effort to do these videos and i just wanted to say thank you.
they will detect deeper than you can dig with a shovel in some places !! and I got bit by a tick this week damn! I think you're finding relics of ancient 1970's teenage beer parties lol 😏
Merrill, in the barren field, what type of ground balance did you use and what search mode? How to increase depth: Recovery Speed increases depth. A Positive ground balance increases depth. Lower frequency increases depth in low to mild mineralized soils. How to reduce depth: Tracking ground balance will loose depth over soil. A Negative ground balance reduces depth. Beach mode will loose depth over soil. Sensitivity enhances the signal, it doesn't increase depth. Tks! GL👨🦯HH
Just for laughs, it would be fun to watch you review and rate the Gordon detector. Sold ar Harbor frieght. It's a cheap p.o.s, but it claims to have all the functions of a name brand.
Sadly, on my SoCal beaches, the highest I have gotten the sensitivity is 21. Usually around 18 on most of my beaches, otherwise it's constant falsing. Probably going to be selling the Manticore and keeping the CTX... the Manticore was obviously tested on and tuned on Florida white sand beaches.
same problem on my beaches in oz,very mineralized ive got tinnitus with the noise out of this machine, hang on to it minelab working on it great potential but its got a long way to go.
I did a test garden in my back yard. 10 coins buried with nails in the hole with them. Some above and to the side and some below. The manticore hits all ten. Some of the vdi numbers are off but repeats. Four of the holes the nox 800 wouldn’t make a sound. This wasn’t because of depth. It was more because of the square nails in with it. I wasn’t impressed with the manticore until I did that test garden. Plus in your video you pulled a dime and vdi said 98. Anytime I get that it’s a nail.
After finally getting my Manticore. And having owned an 800 for a few years. The Manticore is better. Is it $600 better? Prob not considering you only get one coil. If it had come with 2 coils, I would def say it’s the best and best value.
Even though the Manticore is way above my pay grade I thoroughly enjoyed this video, like I do the majority of yours. I’ll have to look at your website and see what you say about my Simplex +.
I think the Minelab manuals are saying that 5 arrows equals 8 inches and 9 inches deep respectively on a U.S. penny sized object, NOT that the detector(s) is/are unable to find that same object deeper than 8 or 9 inches. Why then isn't there a 6th arrow you might ask? Good question. I don't know, I am not an engineer. Maybe that depth readings beyond 8 or 9 inches on that machine become inaccurate? I do admit though that after a few thousand hours on my Equinox 800 I don't think I ever found a penny or a dime any deeper than 9 inches (actually measured), so who knows, I could be wrong about this.
Because of you I bought the macro simplex Plus it's for freshwater I'm using it up here in lake Isabella California I'm getting used to it now I'm hitting the campgrounds along the river and in the water wish me luck memorial weekend coming I'm going to make a killing
That farm field was like a forest, tough to navigate, but hey how about those Zincoln's! 🤣 The Manticore seems very capable, but I'm sure we'll see how capable in the coming months. Not bad as long as we don't get shanked. Lol
I think the Manticore is a Marketing detector. The 800 will do just as well. I don;t fanboi stuff , I'm skeptical of the "new and Improved" stuff. Right now, watching alot of the "OMG Manticore!" Videos, it hasn't impressed me. I'm watching Fun with Jim dig out big Gold with a 900.
Hey man, I’m not trying to be rude or obnoxious in this response. I own an AT Pro and the first videos on my channel way back in 2015 were with the AT Pro. Large objects can be pulled with an AT Pro at depths of 18 inches. Coins can not. The AT pro can pull all of the obvious signals. But in tight spaces and at depth there are much better options. Otherwise we would be seeing a lot more people swinging AT Pros in 2023z
Very good video. As a British citizen I would like to see you test the manticore on British hammered coins. Does the Manticore need a software update? Unfortunately we are finding it extremely difficult to source Manticore in UK.
The first detection stage circuitry in the X-TERRA PRO and Minelab metal detectors are already maxed out, the sensitivity adjustments are only for the final stages, which is why raising the sensitivity levels on the $1700 Manticore will only result in feedback, why pay more.
Hay bud I know you get alot of questions but how do you think the Tarsachi 8000 compairs to the manticor ? The Tarsachi seems to do well on the beach and it's good in iron infested sites.i have the chance to buy a Tarsachi, a manticor and and or an Aka Intronik at sim prices. What would you say would be your choice for performance and price ? My Aka Sorax pro just blasted 69 people at a rally here this week in the UK with 6 coins 4 silver and two bronze when the competition got two silver and some relics. I got around 6 relics and very little trash. So I was pleased to have come out tops with a ten year old detector this week. :)
So I am in the market to buy a new metal detector. The whites lineup I have is starting to not perform how I want to anymore. The DFX was great for a while but now I want to move up to a newer machine. Would you recommend the manticore saving up the money for that or going with a used equinox 800. I am looking for this to be my next 10 year metal detector. Remember I’ve been only using whites detectors for 20 years. I’ve tried a equinox one time and the VDI scale seemed a little low to me with only 40 numbers. Is that something I can get used to after having 191 VDI numbers?
If you are looking 10 years go Manticore especially since you mentioned the VDI scale. I just don't see the performance being drastically different between the Nox and Manticore. The full answer is here: www.iratemetaldetectors.com/
@@MetalDetectingNYC thank you sir I was leaning towards the more expensive manticore. Just wanted your reassurance. I really appreciate it. Thank you. love the videos to keep it up. 🪙👍
@@jasongwin8257 you should be an authorized dealer I may be looking into that one. So I am assuming that since it’s a equinox the coil selection is much better and the aftermarket coil makers haven’t caught up to making one for the manticore yet? The manticore only comes with 1 coil right?
Question: When is enough depth enough? Perhaps if one is relic hunting depth could be important, but I'm a treasure hunter and I'm not interested in digging two feet down just to find a stink'n Lincoln or even a silver dime. If I can't find it a max depth of a foot, to me it isn't worth my time to dig deeper. For this reason, target ID to me is far more important than how deep my detector can go.
I hear you. I just learn over and over again that target id can throw you off more than anything. And most often (in undisturbed dirt) the oldest coins are more often than not, deeper than newer drops.
Over the months how has the legend conpared on its deepest modes. Im also trying out the Rutus Versa on dual mode or artifact mode ...so similar one tone above deep targets ...
Thank you. Its easy with gold. There are several calculators online. With other items it is a lot more difficult. It is what the market is willing to pay.

I like your website Merryl. It is very informative. There is just a typo in your number one ranked detector : notka .
Hey Merril , is the manticore a repairable machine or a disposable ? Like the nox.. ! Regards jeff
Thanks for your opinion 👍. Yes. Manticore is expensive. But in my opinion, price is not important. Just get a detector that you like... So my Manticore delivers what I want. And probably a good choice for many years
My justifacation for spending the additional $600 was for the Target ID. I dont regret buying that functionality. Dollares well spent with no regrets.
You need to get the 900 it loves finding silver.
HooRayyyy Merrill you always amaze me. Full Screen, your the best.
The legend is KING..... THEY HAVE CORNERED THE MARKET.... THE... LEGEND.... IS.... KING
Merrill, in the barren field, what type of ground balance did you use and what search mode?
How to increase depth:
Recovery Speed increases depth.
A Positive ground balance increases depth.
Lower frequency increases depth in low to mild mineralized soils.
How to reduce depth:
Tracking ground balance will loose depth over soil.
A Negative ground balance reduces depth.
Beach mode will loose depth over soil.
Sensitivity enhances the signal, it doesn't increase depth.
Tks!
GL👨🦯HH
Ticks are out in the winter also!!!!!!!
Very much so
I always look your videos, very entretaining and learning from you, regards from Argentina
Just for laughs, it would be fun to watch you review and rate the Gordon detector. Sold ar Harbor frieght. It's a cheap p.o.s, but it claims to have all the functions of a name brand.
Awesome hunt Merrill I enjoyed your video and good luck to you.
Thanks Jimmy!
What happened to detecting with the Legend? We’re the videos that you lost all Legend videos?
My son enjoys your singing very much.
Good video and good info Merrill keep up the good work thanks.
Thanks for vid.
Great video. I like that detector but I think I m going for the 700. I miss hagan daazz though Merrill
awesome video! Manticore, deus 2, Legend which of the 3 do you enjoy more as of today. i really appreciate your feedback back. thanks
Answer is here www.iratemetaldetectors.com/
@@MetalDetectingNYC Great I see you enjoy the Legend from all 3! Thanks!
I just got the Xterra pro
After finally getting my Manticore. And having owned an 800 for a few years. The Manticore is better. Is it $600 better? Prob not considering you only get one coil. If it had come with 2 coils, I would def say it’s the best and best value.
That is my take as well.
Even though the Manticore is way above my pay grade I thoroughly enjoyed this video, like I do the majority of yours. I’ll have to look at your website and see what you say about my Simplex +.
Sometimes less is more!, u know? 😉
Merrill. Do you do overnight shipping on the honey badger?? In Calif, left scoop in SD, can you overnight?? What is soonest it would get to Calif??
Generally I send it ground and it takes 3 days.
Good video my friend , my next detector will be the Manticore. Sidelined for two month due knee surgery. Would to see you back on the beach.
Because of you I bought the macro simplex Plus it's for freshwater I'm using it up here in lake Isabella California I'm getting used to it now I'm hitting the campgrounds along the river and in the water wish me luck memorial weekend coming I'm going to make a killing
Add 13:10 how come no Häagen Dazs this year?
Always great videos 👍🏻👍🏻
That farm field was like a forest, tough to navigate, but hey how about those Zincoln's! 🤣 The Manticore seems very capable, but I'm sure we'll see how capable in the coming months. Not bad as long as we don't get shanked. Lol
Yessir!
Awesome video Merrill
The nox800 in gold modes threshold hunting performance is similar to this
The garrett at pro will pull signals from 18"
Hey man, I’m not trying to be rude or obnoxious in this response.
Love you myril.... Your APPRECIATED sir
The first detection stage circuitry in the X-TERRA PRO and Minelab metal detectors are already maxed out, the sensitivity adjustments are only for the final stages, which is why raising the sensitivity levels on the $1700 Manticore will only result in feedback, why pay more.
This is the best metal that the ML have ever made. Change my mind....
I've watched many of your videos... Do you have any experience using the Minelab Explorer 2? TY
On my 800 I get 5.5" on a silver quarter in my soil. Not very good I get better depth with my V3I Whites.
Hey Bud ..👍👍
Hello!
I need a cat detector. We can`t find Fred!
🐱 miau 😺!
Gd day sir,I am a treasure hunter from the Philippines, what is the best metal detector for me,tnx sir n God bless.
www.iratemetaldetectors.com/
I am waiting for the update and the smaller coil. I have had the Manticore for over 3 months and it does NOT go any deeper then the 800.
😱😤
It just uses 50% more power!!!, I found an 1876 quarter at 10 inches with my garrett at pro 😂
Have you ever used the CTX? If so how would you compare the Manticore to the CTX?
@@jasongwin8257 yeah good idea, just haven’t looking into them yet. So besides the red screeen the 900 is actually different than the 800?
@@jasongwin8257 you should be an authorized dealer I may be looking into that one. So I am assuming that since it’s a equinox the coil selection is much better and the aftermarket coil makers haven’t caught up to making one for the manticore yet? The manticore only comes with 1 coil right?
@@jasongwin8257 is the 900 the best one for u? 🤗
Thank you
9:56 its an Axe or Hammer Wedge for the Handle.
Try the xterra Merrill
Over the months how has the legend conpared on its deepest modes. Im also trying out the Rutus Versa on dual mode or artifact mode ...so similar one tone above deep targets ...
Pinpointer in Vibrationmode is a good Thing.
I understand your huge in to depth . You ever consider ditching the VLF and picking up a PI machine?
How would the Manticore fair in Arizona?
Just found your channel, love the entertainment and information! Im curious how do you get a dollar value from your finds?
Thank you. Its easy with gold. There are several calculators online. With other items it is a lot more difficult. It is what the market is willing to pay.
@@MetalDetectingNYC thank you profusely for your content and knowledge! Cannot wait for the next video! Also i may need to save up for a honey badger those tools look very effective i must say!
Ty for sharing great video
Just got the manticore but have t been on a hunt yet
That "Jubilee" tag was from some Boy Scout gear.
Alaska detector here. I have an Garrett at-pro. I really want to get the manticore or the 900. Will the learning curve be reasonable? Will it be as if I’m starting from a new detectorist? Which one is best in your opinion.
