I really love the Manticore going from the Excaliber II that used for years it's night and day. sense the crud a few years ago It's been hard for me to get to the coast for beach digging so I have been limited to the local lake beds. The target trace is everything to me. A lot of the areas are heavy with Iron I mean red Iron rock that when wet bleads rust down the bank. With the Excaliber and and other machines I have had they would just null out in these conditions. The Manticore will pick up targets that I was unable to see before It will give skewed numbers but the target trace will show a line from nonferrous to ferrous. I am pulling old coins that I never heard before and having detected the areas many times through the years. I pulled a silver quarter at 14 inches deep a week ago and a silver rosey at 12 inches. The Target trace will show many targets at once good and bad. I have been using it for 10 months now and still haven't updated the machine. I want to but I'm not the best at downloading stuff and don't want to screw up the machine. Some body will post a how to video that I can follow and I will get it done.
😃 glad to hear you're enjoying the Manticore! That's gotta be neat finding targets you've passed over in the past. I'll try to make a quick how-to for you to update the firmware. It's really straight forward. 🤙
Thanks Jason. Only just seen your review. And as an old 800 user and having my Manticore for well over a year now would agree with your review. The biggest problem with the machine is it’s too digital I struggled with really deep targets with it. It’s not as good at defining deep as opposed to small targets I find. I never had that problem with the Nox 800 as the sound of really deep stuff would bleed off if that makes sense..I used the 15 coil with the Nox and have just recently purchased the 15” coil for the Manticore so hoping to get real deep lol. Also those headphones my god .big bulky heavy sweaty things. Oh and noisy..the wind noise from them not good. Yes the machine has proved it works ok. But is it £900 better than a Nox900. I don’t think so. But if I had purchased the 900 I would probably be asking myself what am I missing lol. It’s a hobby and we always strive to get the best we can afford. Regards Jim uk.
I enjoyed the video. I know what you mean about keeping a certain machine forever. I have an old Tesoro Bandido i bought in 1990. My grandfather had just just retired, and liked to go detect with me. He never wanted to try it himself, he just liked seeing what I found. He really liked seeing old coins he remembered coming up. I've found tons with it, its still a great machine (if you know its language) and I can't use it without thinking of those days with him. Its not going anywhere.
Awesome review. Unfortunately I bought the Nox 900 since the Manticore took forever to be available. I like my 900 but I also still use the 800. I would never sell my 800. It almost seems like the 900 is the Manticore minus the screen trace or the red and black numbers between ferrous and non ferrous. The vdi is about the same. The most important thing to me is that they both find the gold and silver. Keep swinging my friend. 😎

I had heard that Garrett bought out the old White's company. If they're gonna discontinue the Seahunter, I hope they release more varieties of beach themed pulse induction machines as an improvement on the old White's machines. We shall see.
I would like to give the Manticore a good run for its money, But I myself can not make cents out of trying to make that back in a yrs time. I know with the 600 and other detectors I bought paid for themselves in the first Season I used them. Thanks for sharing this Review.. Happy Hunting
You bet! And you make a good point about recouping the costs. My Nox800 easily paid for itself within the first season. I should try and tally last season's finds and see how I did with the Manticore. Happy hunting!
P.S. - Thanks for the reflective tape idea. The water here on the east coast is not always the clearest so Im hoping the Sun hitting the water will make it easier to see my coil to get my scoop exactly in the right spot.
For sure! My wife gave me the idea. Just be sure to get non metallic reflective tape so it doesn't interfere with coil sensitivity. Also, it might work in the day time, but it works best after dark while using a headlamp
Hey Jason. You didn't mention anything about the Minelab ML 105 wireless headphones or their sound quality or loudness level. Personally, I really like having the option to use any Bluetooth headphones or earbuds I want with my Equinox 800. I haven't bought the Manticore, but I bought the Equinox 900 and the Xterra Pro. Because they don't support standard bluetooth, I'm considering buying the Minelab WM09 wireless adapter for those two detectors so I can use earbuds...but I'm wondering if the sound output level will be loud enough for me, as it's my understanding that the module doesn't have volume control (similar to the wireless module that comes with the Equinox 800).
I've also had the Manticore for 1 year. How's your experience in black iron beach sand? Turning the sensitivity down to 18 or 16 decreases depth but lets me keep finding coins, with distorted VDI numbers. Weirdly, I find many more nickels this way than at default sensitivity 20 in regular sand. 😮
Definitely can relate to the wonky vdi numbers. As far as I can tell, It's not as good in the super black sands as my NOX800, but I might still be biased 😊
Thank you, great review. Have watched a few of your vids recently and just subscribed. Got a Equinox900 a month ago, and now shopping for our second machine to have one for each of us. It's down to another 900, Manticore, or Xterra Elite.

I like your idea of the reflective tape but if I’m not mistaken it’s metallic tape, it has foil in it I think to make it reflective . I’m not a 100% but ya may want to double check as you could be masking out gold chains while ground balancing out foil and gold chain signals every time you turn on your machine cause of the tape . Foil and gold chains ring up the same ;) but I’m sure you know that as the nox was all the rage cause it was the 1st machine that could find thin gold chains .
And for the rays buy ray guards ;) excellent boots for water hunting, they have a lot of grip and tread and there’s no way a ray could Penetrate these things. Once I was stung I found the ray guards and use em still to this day and had em many many years
Thanks for the tips! I don't know how they do it without using foil, but the stuff I get is totally non-metallic. I tested it with VLF and Pulse Induction. I've got a pair of ray guards but they're too big and wobble on my foot. I need some neoprene socks or something

I feel exactly the same way about the flashlight and vibration, just never seem to use them and if I'm out at night my headlamp or bandoleer lamp works so much better regardless. The iron falsing really worried me initially, but with the updated iron display I actually just leave the iron on all the time and turn the ferrous volume down to almost nothing, that way I can see the red iron 'suggestions' in the numbers and use that to inform my digging decision, I can pretty much tell every time now when I'm digging deep iron. There is one upside for the Manticore iron affinity at least for me up in Canada, our clad is mostly steel alloys so usually iron bias in detectors makes them very hard to find; so far I've found that Canadian clad rings up louder on the Manticore than on the 900 or 600. I've found more or our 2 dollar coins 'toonies' with the Manticore for sure. I might be the only person who doesn't like the full colour backlit screen haha (except for the red iron numbers which are great), I prefer a monochrome retroreflective LCD like the Equinox line, easier to see in the sun and on sunny days it shows up better on camera, but that's a small gripe I'm sure I'll get over. I've got about 50 hours on the Manticore so far, so still a long way to go before I'm super confident. I've thought about it this way: The Equinox detectors are like a Honda Civic, perfect daily drivers, reliable, and perfect for just about anything you'd need them to do; the Manticore is a Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato All-Terrain (seriously though look up this car, it's an off-road capable Lamborghini and it's ridiculous but amazing), it might seem like too much at first and more power can sometimes have diminishing returns if the environment isn't perfect for it, but I know which one I'd really want if I had the option.

That's a good question. My guess would be no, but you would at least beed to be able to attach a USB to the iphone.
In Western Europe, the Manticore is 2,000+ USD (1850€). Not the best seller.
@@marinoceccotti9155 That's more than I would spend
I wish i could aford to buy a manticore in romania😢😢😢
Well I recommend you to XP after they gave out a bunch of detectors to RUclipsrs that either don’t find anything or won’t use it because they are hooked on minelab. Like fun with you know who. And I dig Daytona! Waste of product!
Cool! Thanks! Yea I'm totally open to other brands of machines, especially if it's to provide feedback to the community. 🙏🤙
I second that
Who gives a toss what you think, anyone who gets free machines is biased from the start..🙄
Ah... I purchased all my machines full price 👍
@@jasondoesthings Ha ha we are not all as stupid as you think we are, I know how it works with you youtube celebs, not interested in any of your biased reviews as you know nothing about the machine your reviewing...🤪

@@jasondoesthingsthere’s always one or in my case a few don’t even respond I’m like you I try to respond to everybody but not the ignorant ones all were trying to do is help people make informed decisions and we all have different opinions it’s what someone does with all those opinions and makes a informed decision on what to purchase with the manticore tipping $1900 I wished I would of found more unbiased reviews on it because out of the box with the 1 update it doesn’t do good in my soil here in Indiana maybe it’s different in clay or ? But not happy here
