    Mr. Baum,
    Thank you so much for your videos. I own a kitchen and bath remodel business in Nashville, Tennessee and have had problems finding photographers to do photos for our website. I recently purchased a Nikon D5600 and a Tokina 11-20mm. I have been watching your videos and I'm learning so much. I wanted to say thank you for your time and your knowledge.
    Thank you,

    If you want to speed up the selecting and creating a layer mask at 7:07, just use the selection tool (marquee, polygonal etc.) to select the area then click on the mask icon at the bottom (no alt/option). A solid mask of the selected area will be created without the need for inverting, selecting then brushing.

    You can never say too much about this topic! Thank you! I have had success using this technique, with one exception. I live in the mountains of western NC and folks here love their log homes. Wood from floor to vaulted ceiling. Wood is bad enough, but a vaulted wood ceiling is a nightmare. Any suggestions? I have basic lighting equipment, but plan to upgrade.

    hi, thanks for your videos! Great! I really try to understand, what you are showing, so: at 13:30 you feather the selection and deselect then. I suspect, that should have been done as first step after creating the selection, not as last to have any effekt.

    Hi Rich, very good tutorial! However I'm looking for a method without using flash, cause I'm going to take photos inside a museum where flash is strictly not permetted.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  6 лет назад

      This "Darken" method won't work without a flash layer. For you you need to select the window and mask in the show.. it's time consuming but works.. I can offer coaching if this is something you need further help with. If interested you can send me an e mail and we can set up a coaching session.

    Hey Rich! I need help. How do I fix halos that lights create on the ceiling around them? The only solution I have so far is turning the lights off.. what do you recommend? Thank you.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  3 года назад

      Expose for the brightest thing in the room. Once you control the room lights you won’t have that issue.

    Hi Rich,
    How would you deal with reflection and glare from tinted windows when trying to get a window pull shot? I've tried standing in different parts of the room as well as bouncing the flash up, but all have given me a mirrored reflection of the interior. I have resorted to just shooting without flash to get the exposure of the outside and masking it onto the photo. But it becomes tedious to cut out every single block on gridded windows, because I won't be able to use "Darken mode" during post for these shots.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад

      Shoot a window exposure with no flash so you can mask in the parts you need.. it's very easy..

    Is there anyway to edit out the glare without a 2nd picture? And no flash?

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  4 года назад

      You can always try and clone things out but that really isnt a good solution in my opinion

    Your videos are really helpful. I am really thankful for your work. But I am little confused about you placing a flash image at the top every time. Why is it so? What difference will it make if put Ambient at the top?

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад

      It just has to do with masking, if the flash image is on top[ it will mask in ambient, that's what I want, but you can do it the other way around if that works for you.

    Rich, thank you for this video. I am in Sunny FL and floor glare is a big problem, especially in the great rooms. I have two flash (and SB700 and Yongnuo 360) so I may need to go to bigger lights. You recommend the 360 next? I use a d810 and 18-35mm.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад +1

      Absolutely, I suggest the 360 and then maybe the eVolv 200.

    Rich, what are your camera settings when using the flash to overpower a shiny hard wood floor or a bright, window spot on carpet?

    • @RichBaum

      As much frickin power as possible.. hard to tell, different for different situations, different ceiling heights I am sure you get my drift .. hope your well buddy..

    nice video, got some tips, I have just purchased a Nikon 24mm F1.4 and want to use this for interiors, do you use F1.4 for getting more light within the rooms, I shot theatres and live stage

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад

      Laurence, For interiors photography I rarely go under f7.1 as I want everything in focus.. but for detail shots you could go to f1.4 if you wanted but I would stay around f2.8 max..

    Great Video Rich!!! I'm just starting with real estate photography. I have an unrelated question: do you always shoot with the house lights on?

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад

      for real estate I shoot with lights on more than off but there is no rule you need to do that.. its actually easier with no lights on as then you don't have as many color issues..

  • @HuubSmits
    @HuubSmits 7 лет назад +5

    over 30 shots... I simply use a polarizing filter to prevent reflections on floors :)

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад +7

      I didn't do 30 shots just for the glare, on commercial shoots I tend to cover my bases, but I most likely did one or two shots for the floor.. and yes you can use a CP filter but honestly it's doesn't always work perfectly, it depends on the light and the angle of the filter / camera..

    • @HuubSmits
      @HuubSmits 7 лет назад

      Thanks for your reply. I may have sounded a little sarcastic, sorry about that, Rich. You're right about the filter, sometimes it's not enough to cover the huge contrasts when really very bright sunlight hits the floor. In those cases I use multiple exposures as well. But I really like using the pola, miss it when I use a different wideangle than the 24 mm pc-e.

    • @petrub27
      @petrub27 7 лет назад +1

      don't you need to be 90 degree from the light source to use the polariser?

    • @simofreelance
      @simofreelance 6 лет назад

      You probably don't shoot lot of interiors to say that, or at last not a lot in day light. A polarizer cut visual reflextion from certain area, or 1 or 2 light stop from all the photo, but cannot cut 4 or 5 light stop from a certain area, and thats where overpowering ambiant light becomes a solution.

    Rich, thanks so much for your effort in making these videos, you’re a tremendous help and it’s much appreciated! I have one question, you mentioned “feathering” and something like “5 pixels.” Can you elaborate a little on what the feathering feature does exactly? I didn’t quite see or understand its effect on the image. Thank you!

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  6 лет назад

      Nubar, when you make a selection you have the option to "Feather the edges of the selection by going to Select / Modify / Feather and you can choose how many Pixels to feather, I usually choose 2..
      Just do a Google search for "feather selection in photoshop"

    • @RafalKontrym
      @RafalKontrym 6 лет назад

      But you have to do it before you start painting in. I've noticed, on few of your videos Rich that you apply the Feather after you filled the selection in, that won't work. Love your videos though :)

    Rich,
    As per your recommendation I invested in the Godox system.. so far I have the AD600 and the xt32c trigger. When trying to use it my camera doesn't work correctly (canon 5d mark ii) camranger keeps saying "camera busy" most of the time and exposure simulation stops working in camranger. When I switch back to my yongnuo trigger & speedlights my camera works fine..have you heard of this or have any suggestions?

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад +1

      Sorry I can't help you.. but there are great Godox groups on Facebook and there is a guy at Adorama they call Mr Flashpoint you can reach out to.. and be sure you set the camera to RAW and Small JPG so your not waiting for a RAW image preview.. And you can send an e mail to Dave the owner of Camranger who always answers his e mail and is really helpful.

    Hey Rich! I find myself shooting houses with either very dark rooms(that’s with the lights on)and rooms that are very unique colors(like mint green). The images I’m taking now I want to massively improve them without distorting the color of the room. Can you give me a couple light suggestions to help me improve my photography skills? Thank you!

  • @simofreelance
    @simofreelance 6 лет назад +1

    Hi rich, thanks for this great video. i appreciate your work.
    I have a question about flash. Have you ever found yourself, someday or somehow, in a situation where neither your AD200 nor your AD360 was enaught to overpower the ambiant, and your only choice was to pull out the 600 ? If so, what kind of situation? I ask because I intend to buy a new flash soon to replace my less-powerful yongnuo, and i hesitate between models. thank you.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  6 лет назад +1

      Honesly I can always get what I need from my 360 so I really don't need a 600.. remember a window pull in darken mode can get you a well exposed view even with extreme ambient light.

    What's a scouting shoot?

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  7 лет назад +1

      "Scouting" a shoot is when you go beforehand to see the location and for this I took test shots so I will know the challenges ahead of me.. This term came from the film business and in the really old days they would call it a "Reiki"
