    In the video I show how I adjust for color casts. This works for me and my client. And as I always say, it’s better quality of light if you use flash but this is a great way to speed things up while still getting a good image.

    I searched n searched bcuz I knew someone out there knew a better way. I'm interested in finding a outsource bcuz I've heard the prices & speed but I'm the type who can't not know how to do it myself very appreciative. Alot of the other youtubers have impractical techniques for today's market. Speed & quality is the only way to survive here & you sir are the grand master. I found you from reading comments. Thank you. I wish you much success.

      I don’t think HDR is the way to get ahead in this business but if your price model works that way then I guess you got to do it, but for me it’s always giving extraordinary image quality which is really hard to get consistently with outsourcing brackets hope this helps

    Awesome work, Rich, as usual! It's interesting to me, how people are in the comments, acting like you are not allowed to have you own way of doing things...
    Everyone does what works for them. Myself, I take each photo and make decisions, based on the situation. If using normal mode makes the client happy, I'll do it. If the client wants unrealistically white ( like some flambient can bring), I'll do it. I appreciate the fact that you're so patient with the wannabe gatekeepers. Keep on rocking!

    Usually, to deal with color casts in flambient, I mix Nathan Cool's variation of flambient with yours.
    I adjust the ambient wb to match the flash as close as possible and then slightly desaturate color channels that may not be too similar to the flash picture. I then bring everything to photoshop, duplicate the ambient. First one is in luminosity at 70% opacity (in which colors don't matter), second one is in normal with a black mask on it. I then paint the mask white in the color-flash casts area to fix them. It works very well for me and my editing clients. For my shooting clients I shoot HDR anyway

    Hey Rich, thank you for your many tutorials! What got me here was doing HDR photos and struggling with cutting out windows. Now i've been studying flambient. I'm trying to understand why you didn't aim the flash at the windows for the darken mode technique? Is this unnecessary as long as the main flash shot has reasonable exposure on the windows? Or would you only do flash window pulls in certain situations? Thanks

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  Год назад +1

      Anytime I do dark mode I dewpoint my flash at the window directly from camera as that’s the only way darken mood will work as you need to overexpose everything around the window view which is darker and you need to make sure that your window view is darker than the layer your masking over, hope this makes sense if you need more help I do private coaching, feel free to send me an email to Rich@richbaum.com

    Does this eliminate the hdr bracket shots?

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  11 месяцев назад

      You can still do brackets, which is actually what I do, but I never do auto brackets. I only do the exposures that I think I will need an editing, so remember the whole point of this is to get as much ammo as you need at the time you’re photographing so when you get home and sit down to edit and photo shop, you have all the parts of the puzzle or the ammunition I Collett that you’ll need to be successful.
      And the more you do this the easier it gets in the faster it gets

  • @GeminiSeven43
    @GeminiSeven43 Год назад

    This might be a dumb question but what do you do if your photo shoot can only be done in the evenings with little or no ambient light?

    • @JoshxIZ
      @JoshxIZ 11 месяцев назад

      I do alot of dark homes, and you can get ambient light. Its not unsual for me to have 1-5 second exposures. And in basements etc its pitch black so to get a faster shutter you got to shoot wide open and turn on lights if possible. F/4 on a good quality wide angle lens still produces a sharp image (everything is in focus still but softer around the edges).
      So answer: shoot wide open, turn on lights, you need a tripod to be able to get long exposures.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  11 месяцев назад

      Well, if you’re shooting at night, you’re out of luck and sure you could probably work in some tricks, but it’s just a different thing.
      When I go to twilight shoots, sometimes I love shooting single exposures interiors when it’s dark outside or at least a little late coming in from outside, but without any light at all, not much you can do for the windows that’s why I would never shoot any home interior at night.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  Год назад +1

      I do brackets but only when I have to which would be for twilight photography and if I want to do a full HDR shoot but I rarely if ever do an HDR shoot

      @@RichBaum thank you sir. Personally I'm leaning to brackets for average homes needing simple yet nice images & you'r technique for above average or luxury. Or simply higher paid gigs. I see what you said about outsourcing. May I ask one last question how long do you take typically to edit a home. Most ppl in my dallas area are 24hrs but I know they outsource & I have doubts that there editing is consistent as you say. I would love to scale up a team one day so I'm doing my research.

    Hi Rich,
    Do you choose to ignore the color casts and differences between flash and ambient because of profit and time?
    Is it too time consuming/unprofitable to utilize more flash layers and to use ambient on luminosity to fix flashiness (rather than bringing it in on normal and confusing the color tones)?
    thanks

    • @evanabounassar2454
      @evanabounassar2454 Год назад +1

      I guess I'm wondering why use flash if you are going to allow ambient color in since the main benefit of flash is color accuracy and control. why not just go full ambient?

    • @tytlyf
      @tytlyf Год назад +2

      @@evanabounassar2454 He'd be better off using luminosity on the ambient. And then duplicating the ambient on normal mode to fill in the other areas where there isn't flash.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  Год назад

      @@tytlyf I usually don’t use luminosity mode as often it can cause it’s own issues. I prefer normal mode and adjust color issues in Lightroom. It’s far faster for me.

    • @tytlyf
      @tytlyf Год назад +2

      @@RichBaum what's even faster are creating actions in PS.
      For instance, when multiple layers load into PS, I can hit F2 and everything is auto-aligned, ambient is set to luminosity w/ layer mask and layer turned off. All in 1 second. I can hit F4 on a layer an it'll set to Lighten and create a layer mask. Window pull is F5, set to Darken, Layer mask and moved to top of layers. Check it out.

    • @RichBaum
      @RichBaum  Год назад

      Evan, There is so much more to the ambient shot than color.. the main thing I got out of the ambient shot was to help bring back the logical shadows and take out some of the flashiness
