Just overanalysing, but I think when Sans said "judging by your expression", he didn't mean Frisk, he mean us.
I mean, look at this guy and all of us when we first played Undertale. We pretty much had the same reaction as his.
Im sure at least one person has treated this like a normal RPG and just grinded monsters until they discovered the genocide route by accident.

@rogayboss69420 pretty sure that's just fan headcanon. Don't think there's anything in the game that actually suggests he's reliant on the circumstances he's in to do as well as he does.

@@AgeRestriction-nq6uf he clearly wasn't joking. What he says and does in the judgement hall of the Genocide route clarifies that. Though even without the clarification, it seems silly to take him saying he was joking at face value when the tone of the scene contradicts that.
In all fairness, it was his job to bring your soul to Asgore to break the barrier as the 7th, the promise could have been to not allow you to die. On the other hand, if he knew you took out Toriel, it may have been the only thing stopping him from taking revenge for his (girl?)friend.

On the bright side I can say from personal experience so much of the fight is memorization that it’s much easier the second time if you’re ever insane enough to do it again.

@@TheKrazyguy751 HP is a joke that ever if he has HP higher than 1 or 30,000 or ever 9,999,999 he would consider as getting DEFEAT(he didn't count as death) due to "game mechanic" that he will be defeated no matter what if he get hit like METTATON NEO that should be another Genocide boss but got 1 shot because HIS NEO body part is unstable, so because having higher HP doesn't mean anything like Undying the Undyne having about 27,000, but Asriel have 9,999 despite being basically GOD because having 6 human soul and whole underground monster, so HP is basically useless to comparison how strong they are.

My headcanon is that Sans actually has, like... 100 hp, or something.
Or maybe 66, from his father. Or maybe 68, like his brother. Or 69, because it's Sans, of course he would.
But it doesn't matter how much HP he has. Mettaton Neo got taken down in one hit and he had 30k.
Sans is a boss fight. Every boss fight in Undertale's Geno route dies in one hit. Even Undyne died in one hit before being revived by Determination.

I feel like chat's guidance was a downside here.
the poison effect doesn't turn every bit of healing into more poison, or anything.
If you heal to full HP, then waiting for the KR to be gone means you have to wait for the damage to go away, but healing when you have some KR means you have effectively more HP from what I know.
It might make future KR worse tho idk

This video is from a stream that happened roughly two weeks ago. He has also since been told that the pan increases how much health food items restore, and that having the notebook doesn’t matter because invincibility frames are automatically set to 1 for this fight, no matter what items you equip

^ This video is called "Effect of INV on Sans" and sure, it doesn't help much but sometimes it helps ENOUGH.
Edit: It apparently decreases the KR tick rate, is all.
KR actually just stays when you heal, meaning you effectively have a lower max HP since the KR will remain and drain you by however much KR you have left.

Yes of course it stays, but for now it's more HP?? It's like Earthbound's rolling HP mechanic. If you got hit by a move that did 999 damage and you have 999 hp, sure you have to heal but for a few turns you effectively have "Hp amount: Falling"
It stays when you heal and it eats into that if you fully heal, but if you DON'T it's gonna do that same amount of damage to you either way.
Plus there were a LOT of times Kyle pretty much went with 30 hp and basically ALL of it was going to die by KR, and despite the fact it was ticking down, it was still _VERY USABLE_ hp, just not going to last.
As such, if you heal EARLY and it's not a full heal, the draining purple HP can act as a buffer, decreasing future KR (Since KR is maxed at 40 at one time) for a short bit, and allowing you to get hit a few more extra times, at least while it drains.

Seeing this in my feed inspired me to go boot up the Bad Time Simulator. Back when Undertale was relatively new, it took me like 80 tries to beat him. Now, all these years later, I've been playing a lot of Touhou. Only took me 2 tries! Feels good.
i forgot about the sans website and i had only played undertale on Nintendo switch before and i tried the website it was kinds hard to start with but i beat him in 9 try's the controls were kinda odd for me playing on laptop bc i've only used the control stick thingys it was fun though also noice video

Fucking LOVE how Undertale fans can't let someone enjoy the game by themselves 9 years later, it was an issue really back then on fans SCREAMING what NOT to do and DO, serioulsy who cares? it's not "giving someone a better playtrough" it's just unnesecary backseat gaming just because NO YOU HAVE TO PLAY *THIS* way. More than half of things chat keeps wanting to ""Tip"" can just be solved by paying attention to the game for a short while. Yeah sans is the weakest, 1hp 1df and 1 atk, but he deals poison damage and you have no invincibilty frames.
But he will die in 1 hit, you just need to hit him first
1 damage [per FRAME] and he removes your i-frames, which is why i said use the book and glasses they give you back your i frames and you can basically tank his first attack.
it by no means makes the fight easy but at least you are guaranteed to make it past the 1st attack

@SprayInk-And-CritGlitch they lower the total damage per second you take throughout the Entire fight by skipping every third frame of damage, which adds up significantly.

I think it's really funny watching new players fight Sans, from the perspective of someone who can consistently beat him and somewhat consistently beat him hitless. If you struggled on this, you could *not* handle Undertale fangames.
Nobody starts off beating Sans easily or hitless. You need to practice, so if anything it’s just a “wow I’ve come so far since then” feeling. Cuz obviously to beat Sans they’ll have to do what you’ve done.
Every single fan game player started off with Geno route Sans at some point.
@@BelBelle468 Not really. I mean, I never technically played Undertale despite owning it and having thousands of hours in the fandom. My first Undertale fight was Sans through Bad Time Simulator, and I still beat it first try.
