I imagined that she had low self esteem and had an unconscious desire to parade her life on display for the world, even her sex life. And you can get people who are so damaged, they need to exhibit themselves as a form of validation.

How do we know this show is brilliant? Most people who watch this HATE the girl we should be worried for and ROOT FOR a serial killer and stalker. They got us on the side of the bad guy and it’s terrifyingly amazing.
I know right it is so brilliant , you can't help but actually support him and feel bad for him when he is rejected
The reasoning behind what he does, we can sympathise with because everything he is saying in his voiceovers is totally true. The part we struggle with is how he deals with the problems because obviously murder = bad but reasoning behind it = incredibly logical
That's thanks to Caroline Kepnes writting. She wrote the books. The crew behind the series did a really good job adapting the story.

Beau Taylor the reason why they hired him is because they knew nobody would take him really seriously. Ted Bundy was a man that nobody really thought could kill a women since he was really attractive and super charming. Zac Efron, a man that many of us grew up with as a child and a man who we know as Troy, is a hard person to look at and think as a serial killer. If someone told me today that Zac Efron murdered 30+ women, I wouldn’t believe them (much like in the 70’s, nobody believed it when a attractive man could do such a thing). In the movie, the writers wanted you to almost forget that you had any prior knowledge of who Ted was and actually feel sorry for him. The movie showcases Ted from the perspective of a girl who believes he didn’t do it, which subconsciously makes you pity him too. And that’s why they chose Zac. Zac Efron is a man that young girls have admired and trusted since we were kids. When you watch the movie, you see a man that girls have trusted for years now playing a character that is put in a almost good light throughout the whole movie until the end where we are faced with the harsh reality that this man raped and murdered tons of women and almost got away with it. Having Zac play Ted was supposed to distract you.
@@chelseaw.4143 its not just that though he really sucked at portraying him and the fact we all know him so well is hard to believe it, 95% of people know who ted bundy and what he looks like and his crimes getting a blockbuster dude playing it is basically just softening who ted was. Thats why didn't i like it, ted was extremely messed up and almost creepily smart, the main guy on "you" (no idea what his name is) is creepily smart looks smart i can't see zac being smart also this guy looks like your every day hot guy i thought he would portray bundy well in my opinion

It's how his character is written. He justifies his own actions and despises it when it is done by someone else. Season 2 also drove that point home. I found that line insanely funny. The writers wanted it to be funny.

The great thing about Penn Badgley is he can look so gorgeous at times & repulsive at others. I don’t know why, that’s just how he makes me feel and it’s perfect.

But Joe isn't interested just in one woman. He loved Candace, she dumped him and then he killed her. Then he meets Beck. And in the second book he kills more women he is interested in.

He does want to be committed, but if the woman he falls for crosses him by dumping him or trying to run, his disturbing nature comes out, and he sorts the problem by making them disappear. I don’t think killing the objects of his affection is something he revels in, it’s very much a last resort

I can sympathize with Joe not just because we walk through his life but we actually hear his thoughts, and know that in his mind he isn't lying when he thinks he's helping. But I'm not one of those people who are not thinking sanely, trust me I have huge sympathy for all the people he stalks and attacks. I was so rooting Beck on when she was trying to escape from him.
Yeah what I love is that we can see (especially in the last season) him fighting with himself trying to figure out and realize what he is and why he does what he does. He's kinda like an Angel of Death killer for the sadistic pleasure and the idea that he thinks he is doing the right thing and protecting those he cares about.

Yes joe did literally murder people for her but peach was more than ready to drug and rape beck. They also both insisted that they were “protecting her” and had her best interest in heart when in reality their real reasoning was selfish they weren’t doing the things they did for beck but rather for themselves

season one had THE MOST ironic dialogues from Joe, him saying Beck is a stalker (as a joke), or saying Beck's got a stalker, referring to Peach, and SOO many more lines like those I remember coz I used to laugh at all of them. Season 2 didn't have as many, he didn't really hurt anyone related to Love to get Love or whatever
