It's an arguably good plot if removed from the storyline of Phantom Of The Opera, but I agree, the music is great.
@@silasnormile8445 I agree. If you search for connections between between POTO and LND, the plot is... intriguing at best. But as what I call “an alternate universe, a different possibility that just happens to be in the same setting,” like you said, it’s an arguably good plot! :))

Anna's voice reminds me of the voices Disney Princesses usually had when Walt was alive. They seem more operatic to me. And I think Mary Costa, who voiced Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, was a real opera singer. .

Headcanon: Meg could hear Christine and Phantom as they are singing on the balcony, and this is when she realised that she could never be enough for the Phantom, because in this song he shows his dedication and commitment to Christine. This song is the one that made Meg truly give up any real hope she had of taking Christine's place, leading to her attempted suicide. She still made attempts to please him and take Christine's place, but deep down inside her she knew they were all for nought because he was so dedicated to her.
Nice headcannon, but I dont think that would make much since given how what probably pushed her over the edge was after Madame Giry told her that the Phantom was giving all his fortune to Gustave. Mind you in this specific production of the show Meg is genuinely happy to see christine and "dear old friend" happens after this song

The way their voices harmonize and finally meet one another at 2:02 gets me every time. I agree with one of the other comments, if you're coming into this musical expecting it to canonically sequel POTO, you will be disappointed. However, the music in this show is absolute perfection from start to end. As an audience member, you are along this journey of longing and agony in Beneath A Moonless Sky transitioning into regret and sadness in Once Upon Another Time. Love Never Dies doesn't deliver the same theatrics as Phantom, but the composition is unbeatable.

This is a movie. It’s labeled as one. They filmed with and without an audience. So I doubt ALW would ever do another one. Ramin also said in a Q&A that he was offered the role in this version but he turned it down.
I love Anna’s voice ! So Blythe and pretty ! Her acting makes it THAT much better. She’s truly the best Christine IMO!

I always had this idea that if they had made it it's own stand alone show, it might have done so much better.
Like let's say instead of the opera house they were always a traveling circus that our main four theatre peeps were a part of. Maybe Phantom was the ring leader or a major act and he and Christine had a relationship but she wanted to be something more and then Raoul came with promises of security and stardom and she left her home to pursue bigger and better things only hearing later there was some kind of "accident" with the love of her life, Phantom, and has some grief to realize she wasn't there to truly say goodbye or if things would have been different if she had been there.
Cut to ten years later, maybe Christine got her dream to become a star, either stage or early cinema (Still silent film at the time making Til I Hear You Sing still hold the heartache that Phantom can see her almost any time but she's just a vision and it's so lifeless for him compared to the real thing.) Phantom has moved up now as they no longer travel and he owns a major showgrounds on Coney Island but he's married to Giry and has his daughter Meg to look after. Which just adds motive for them as Giry is rightfully bitter and feels she's been denied what she deserves as she thought he had moved on but no, he still goes on about the One That Got Away every time her name comes up and it's maddening to know she'll never be good enough. Meanwhile Meg so desperately wants to make him proud and shows she's actually taken after him in writing music and performing magic and tricks, not as good as him but she's young and still learning. Does he ever notice? NO. But he does when he finds Gustav, which makes her heartbreak and rage justifiable.
Meanwhile with Christine, things aren't so glamorous as she's got the money and fame and secure family life now, but stuck in a hollow marriage with an alcoholic abuser and it just makes her long for the days at the circus. But here at Coney Island it does feel a bit like home and it makes her happy Gustav is so taken in by everything instead of afraid of it. And at this moment we're really rooting for these two, but then Raoul surprises the audience in the second act with how despite everything we've seen, he really does love her, he really wants to be there for the boy, he's got a sweet side and is willing to change now that he realizes he could literally lose everything. But much like the show, it's too late for all that since we the audience have already seen how things are playing out for Christine and Phantom ready to ditch their spouses and start a new life together. And we root for them because they're so obviously meant for each other despite their previous ties to their spouses. But the whole thing has been doomed from the start, a tragedy we knew we never work out but somehow hope it would until the end.
I mean, we'd lose some songs that make reference to Phantom, but most of those are short interludes. I feel like if they were separate that fans might compare the two a lot, maybe even fan fiction of Christine and new girl comparing their romance woes and Phantom and new guy swapping staging secrets, but I feel it still would have been better than incurring the rage of "WHAT DID YOU DO TO (FAVORITE CHARACTER?!)" and timeline inconsistencies and undoing a lot of the character development from the first show so we can learn it again.
Look how gorgeous that set is! The costumes. The hair. Do they offer pay per view/streaming of these shows? I’d love to see the whole thing.

I actually use both soundtracks to practice with expanding my vocal range, because I love singing and anything music and/or theater related. I actually have an audition for American Idol coming up in less than a week, and even though it's virtual and just for producers for this one, I really hope I can become a singer. And possibly a film or stage actress at some point. 😊♥️

@@sford557 I really do understand. I haven’t seen my mum in almost a year. She’s in a care home over 100 miles away from me. I work in a school (working from home at the moment) and even though I’ve been really careful, I got COVID in early December 2020, my husband also got it. Thankfully we are both fine and had the milder version. Do you have family you can call or friends? FaceTime/zoom/Skype are good ways to keep in contact with people. Stay strong.

It did, I saw it on it's first tour a year or so before covid hit... for a first tour it was far more amazing than I expected and I would recommend checking the phantom for that show, Bronson Murphy! He did just as amazing as Ramin

I think the story is ok it's not perfect by any means but it explains things that were unanswered in the ending of the first movie
The sad part about LND is the fact that with such amazing songs and duets, the plot had so much potential! It /could/ have been a much more successful sequel to POT if it only had a stronger entity and an even stronger antagonist instead of butchering characters for the sake of a love story. I think I like it enough as a sequel simply because I never really liked Raoul to begin with, I always thought he was a bit boring and always rooted for the Erik as he had the most........ personality lol 😂

I really liked the musical when I first watched it, mostly because I was a bit beast because it was an addition to Phantom f The Opera, but the musical isn't, well, that good.
*there are spoilers in this comment*
The music? Great (Beneath A Moonless Sky is a beautiful melody, but its pretty much a sex scene trying to sound innocent lol.)
The Acting? Pretty good, the cry the Phantom makes at the end? heart breaking!!)
The stage/visuals? STUNNING! This musical just looks visually pleasing and very, very pretty. Especially the big mask-roof-thing.)
The Overall Story? BIIIIIIIG NO!
The story is pretty much any love story, it doesn't feel like each role was made for the character. Similar to what Musical Hell says, Erik is the one who caused everything, and he was actually the only character to get a good ending if you really think about it. Raoul has no real family anymore, his wife was just shot. Miss Giry as to face with a suicidal daughter who killed their friend/celebrity and almost killed a 10 year old child. The Phantom lost Christine, but he now has a son who he can raise and love.
I don't feel like the creators also took account of Erik's personality at first. In the Original, Erik makes everything his habitat, he knows exactly what he's doing. He is a genuine threat- even when we first see him in the title song of Phantom Of The Opera, and he's shown as a gentle, rousing and heavenly, the lyrics hide "Beware- The Phantom..." But on Love Never Dies, I never once got that vibe, and this demeanour is all bark and no bite. He threatens to take Gustave, he threatens to take Christine, but they both followed him on their own, he just convinced them? He never does anything to remind us on how dangerous he actually is and he just comes across as a weeping dramatic. Another character trait for Erik was that he "always dresses for the occasion." In Love Never Dies, all he does is take his blazer off or were a robe over his clothes; so that was disappointing.
The whole point of the ending of the song "Wishing you were somehow here again" and the ending of Phantom Of The Opera, was Christine breaking free from the Phantom or any sort of control in her life. "Dreaming of you, won't help me to do all that you dreamed I could" and Christine giving the Phantom a kiss and the Phantom letting them leave. (did you notice the little nod Erik gave Christine in the 25th anniversary recording?) This makes Love Never Dies look like it was completely ignoring the themes in Phantom Of The Opera. (Finally, they never mention the Angle of Music in Love Never Dies.)
Anyways, I've talked too much. I do really enjoy listening to the songs, and watching it. I've watched Phantom Of The Opera an unhealthily amount of times and I always cry to the music, and I do enjoy Love Never Dies, I always cry when Erik makes that deafening cry on the end, but its just a shame that they wasted the potential that Love Never Dies could of reached.
