If you just listen and don't think about the story at all..... It's okay.
Just like Rent.
I think it's a great musical. If you just think of it as a piece of Phanfic (which, let's face it, it is) it's actually quite good. The Melbourne production in particular is awesome.
But it’s not Fanfic, it’s the real-life story of a man writing a musical to apologize to his wife and son for not being present in their lives. And then his son died. Now with that knowledge, stop looking at this as a sequel. It shares the characters (just like any 007 or Batman) and loose events. The time is fudged to land on the setting of the time period. I don’t get the hate. It’s a more personal story than Phantom.
@@Zton-yn4kc with all due respect...what are you talking about?
lol😂😂😂😂
I love this take of Meg Giry. She is supposed to be a broken character. She has always been a people-pleaser, which in the end broke her down. I don’t remember who is playing Meg, but this was an awesome take on this last scene. The British version of LND portrayed an angrier Meg. It’s not a wrong take, but I personally think the “broken Meg take” is a more appropriate take for this 😇
Sharon Millerchip, I think???
I love the LND of the Avstralia, because it in this version Meg more sad, kind. Meg in London version aggressive, angering.
I think what the Meg and Raul be is oblation of the egoism of Cristina and Phantom
@@igamarurbytes i think so too!
Meg turn into Bathing beauty of darkness she just pulls out the gun
I know, people say she's out of character but I don't see that at all
This was so touching and a tragic yet bittersweet new beginning for the Phantom. The part where Gustave touched his face softly without his mask absolutely melted my heart. He accepts him and will love him as is and the phantom will be able to pour his love into his son. The scene where he sings love never dies to him, always gets me 😢😢😢😢
TO BE HONEST THE SONGS SLAP! But the musical just slaps you in the face.
THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE LOVE NEVER DIES
I know this musical is still pretty ridiculous as a story & even standalone-ish story, but I can’t help it, THESE SONGS ARE SO GOOD! Till I Hear You Sing is still one of my favorite ALW songs! 🥰🎶
Me too.... I really like these songs. I wish A.L. Webber would make a movie with Butler and Emmy.
hot take. Idk if Emmy was ready for the role of Christine. I like her as an actress overall, but in musicals singing is equally just as important as acting. They had to take the songs Think of Me and the Main Phantom theme a half step lower than they should be. I did like the addition of the Phantom’s backstory in scene-work instead of madame Giry mentioning it in the musical. I’m sad POTO is not running anymore as well :(
Sameee
Me too. A love LND 😍
I think it is a great story then the Phantom of the Opera. The phantom was a lot nicer in the sequel, and I think it was a great ending. I think the way Raul and the Phantom looked at each other after Christine died, it was as if they finally understood why they loved her in different ways of course.
Honestly if they made these changes the story would be fine
-Raoul is not poor and drunk but instead Christine is here to spread her fame and Raoul is mad about how they are treated despite their status
-Meg wanted Christine’s popularity and wanted to find the phantom to kickstart a career(they could’ve have explain this better)
-Meg shoots Christine on purpose instead of it being an “accident”
It’s just the characters don’t seem like they are. compared to the first
If this wasn't attached to Phantom of the Opera, it would almost definitely have been greatly revered. The story isn't bad at all, it just doesn't fit the context of PotO, and the music can be at times better than the original imo
I couldn’t agree more 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The only thing I thing i hate is what they did to Raoul. In the novel he's just as amazing as POTO. He even knows that Gustave isn't his son but loves him anyway as an extension of Christine. At the end of the novel he drives with him to her grave and remarks on his musicality being almost otherworldly like Erik's. He finds a fresh rose on her grave and knows the Phantom was there. And he leaves the music box.
@@lyndajaeger4477What's the title of the sequel?
@@kingjulienfeetenthusiastIt's called "The Phantom of Manhattan"
@@lifethroughcoraslenses36no it’s phantom of the opera 😭
Ugh I would love to have a recorded version of Ben Lewis playing in The Phantom of the Opera. His performance is my favorite in Love never dies and I would love to see him as the classic phantom!
There's one floating around RUclips. So worth listening to, but the visuals are awful
He was Phantom in POTO a few years ago with Amy Manford
Beneath a Moonless Sky, Love Never Dies. Wonderful songs with heartfelt emotion.
However, I do like that no words were spoken between the Phantom and Raoul at the end
You know what they say "Actions speak louder than words"
@@mysterykiddo2167 true
The boy touches his shoulder and strokes him on the face like he’s just a lonely person who desires to be loved and happy. That right there truly states he’s accepted the Phantom.
I see it as the Erik tries to commit suicide but something stops him. I don’t care what other people say about this musical it is beautiful and I would have loved to see an actual movie of it like with PotO!
That last one makes me cry everytime
Fantastic musical !
Love this almost as much as I love The Phantom of the Opera. The songs are just as mesmerizing and the story does logically follow how their lives could have been since The Phantom of the Opera. I've always felt Christine's true love was The Phantom and have always thought it was kind of disappointing that she ended up with that rich boy. Like a lot of rich boys living on daddy's money, how he became in this Love Never Dies is totally believable... The jealousy of Christine's friend and husband that ruined their lives were also very natural. Anyway, not sure why so much hate for this one but I think is the perfect ending to The Phantom.. Well, not perfect I guess since it still did not end well... True love almost triumphed..
EXACTLY!!!
I've always imagined if the gunshot isn't fatal and it's actually Gustave's flee that made the wound kill.
Ngl, I’m gonna steal that for my own head canon 😂
How was this uploaded an hour ago lmao, I was just having a random phantom binge 💀
I’m not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry
I’m bawling
I don't understand these comments complaining about the story, this was a phenominal sequel, and i did not expect Christine to be off in such a tragic way. The way it was set up was perfect.
Regardless of whatever Andrew did, it was never going to please everyone…it just comes part and parcel with sequels.
For real i was watching it at my grandmas house and my mouth just dropped
Nah, the story is bad.
It plays out like a bad fan fiction. The set is pretty impressive and the music is solid, but the entire plot is too much of a long shot. Why would Madame Giry smuggle the phantom to New York? They were reasonable, kind people in Phantom yet in this show they’re smuggling a murderer to save his life, then Meg is trying to kill Christine’s son? It’s absurd. Also- it would take a LOT of prostitution to build an entire amusement park- more than just Meg could handle in ten years.
@loganflanagan5288 I don't remember the beginning stuff, but it seemed like Meg didn't actually intend to kill him, she just wanted the attention of the Phantom, who was a very charismatic and alluring character.
Despite Megs character being a bit weird, this actress sold the psycho like aspect
Harley Quinn Of The Opera!😀
6:53 What we all came to see. If you know, you know.
Explain, please?
“Give me the gun” says the phantom of the opera.
@@TheTallZiggyThe Phantom negotiating a hostage crisis is absurd enough.

say what you want about the plot. I'll always adore the music
Absolutely one of my favorites. The songs are so beautiful
This songs?, the best 💖
One thing I really do like about the Australian versions take on this final scene is that the Phantom was very obviously going to kill himself here, or at the least was very close to throwing himself off that pier and joining Christine in death.
You could almost say Gustave approaching him and showing him love is what saved his life, and gave him hope back as he sees Christine in the boy. Gustave will now be Erik’s object of devotion and reason for living like Christine once was.
Never understood why this show didn't succeed, I've seen phantom 6 times, and this a couple on stage, both multiple times later on TV. I actually thought this was a better show than phantom
This show is amazing!!!!!!!
Meg is amazing Villain in the movie
Christine Death just like the Villain dies in the end
I didn't even know the phantom had a second show, where was this masterpiece been?😂❤
Theres a reason why this sequel isn’t as popular
How is nobody mentioning that this plot sounds like a fanfic from somebody’s fever dream, not saying it’s bad just chaotic
like here is my rundown of the plot from the end of the og phantom of the opera,
Christine and phantom decide to part ways,
ten years later phantom still a simp and is hung up on Christine,
Christine and phantom are kinda frenemies but sound,
apparently at some point in those ten years phantom and Christine got together for one night and whether he kidnapped her or not is kinda undetermined,
Christine is preggo with him but doesn’t tell the kid it is phantom’s and tells him it is raoul’s,
meg giry goes un poco locooooooo,
meg giry accidentally makes Christine forget to exist,
suddenly phantom is nice and has a kid and is forming a relationship with his kid because they both emo that Christine died.
The end.
This sounds like a plot written in a secret notebook owned by a 11 year old girl
I think an 11 year old girl can up with a better story than Lord Andy.
Technically the plot is based on a fanfic that probably came from a fever dream that the author had.
Kinda reminds me of the Star Wars prequels.
Ever since i heard of this story I've been wanting to see the final scene of this show! Amazing!! Sad and amazing!
I have got to see the full version of this sometime!
Was the phantom contemplating suicide at 13:13?
Think so
Yes, and I like how it was Gustave who basically pulled him back from the edge in a sense…kinda like Christine’s spirit reaching out to him through her son as Gustave is a part of her, and she will live on through him and we see that realization in the Phantoms eyes when he sings ‘Love Never Dies’ to Gustave.
His Son who will now be his new reason for living, and Christine gave that to him. ❤
Thank you for this song!
I adore the music, the song, and the emotions they have portrayed! It's beautiful!
8:14 Christine? Christine? ALWAYS CHRISTINE!
Christine saw the betrayal her own friend actually turn into Twisted
Meg has become Bathing beauty of darkness
Any chance you could play the full show again?
It coming to London in August
I'm the only one wondering what will happen to Meg? she could be arrested.
And what will happen to Raoul? after all, if Gustav goes to the Phantom, he will be left all alone...
I think there’s a third book that explains and answers your questions, but there is not a musical version of the third book. I don’t remember what it is called, but i believe ALW wrote a trilogy (POTO LND and whatever the third book is called) :))
He can have Meg...
Meg might end up killing herself since she is already demented and broken and now also have to live with the guilt of killing Christine. Raoul was never a good husband or father and he is a small man so it is good that Gustav did not end up with him. The way Raoul had been, even after the Phantom paid off his debt and all, he would probably go right back to the drinking and gambling and failures that would put him right back to a life of financial ruin.
@@fridayblues216 It's a pity that Raoul has become so nervous and arrogant. In "The Phantom of the Opera" he was different, ready to protect Christine. In LND he became rude and selfish. Its very sad. And I'm very sorry for Meg.
@@NikaLarina I think his arrogance is his way of trying to hide his low self-esteem because it was very obvious that he was not good enough for Christine, he knows it and even worse, the public knows it and even the press made a mockery out of him..
I hope the cast from the 2004 Phantom of the opera movie make the film version of this musical too.
nah recast it
This musical isn't the best but the last scene with the boy touching his father's face without fear or judgement is beautiful 😢
This is a fantastic musical. Probably the best I’ve ever seen in the West End. Loved every part of it.
Love love love this movie
Em, any alternative ending that i can watch on youtube where phantom and christine have a happy ending please? 😅 Or somewhat she survived the shot since in the original book she died in her 60's, she ended up with Phantom living happily ever after.
2004 had a better ending
I remeber seeing this on PBS once. Storywise it was kinda interesting in its own special way, but boy the music and the songs are what saved it from being bad.
Meg did got the mask in of The Phantom of the opera
Meg just turn into bathing beauty of darkness
Erik: I promise I will never let anything happen to you…. Gustave
At the end Gustave should have sung: this haunted face holds no horror for me now
Shame on Andrew for killing Christine. They could’ve been one happy family.
It's kinda just a cheap way to contrive a tragic ending. The story was good enough it didn't need that, and it doesn't do justice to her character. People would have liked it regardless (and arguably it would have done better) if she hadn't died in the end. I feel like ALW wanted to pack an emotional punch at the end, but there are other ways he could have done that without killing the leading lady.
Ok i did some digging a while ago and did find that someone else wrote a book Phantom of Manhattan and thats what this one is based on. I have it and the original book although i haven’t gotten to read the sequel book
this man played off losing the love of his life too well😭😭😭
No Christine😢
My absolute favorite cast of all time!!! Brings tears to my eyes ❤
8:18 (Gasp!) *KID!!!*
Meg got brainwash by The Phantom and shot the gun at Christian
Meg has betrayed her best friend
OK I’m not hating because I do like this version but am I the only one who feels like the kiss, was a little rushed? Like this is the last time you get to kiss the woman, you love and it just feels like he rushed it.
歌と曲が素敵❤😢😢せつない😢
8:08- 8:11 seriously That’s all you had to say!
People always scoff at that line like ‘how can Erik be that oblivious to say something like that to Meg in her mental state’, but remember now that Ramin was the Original LND’s Phantom, the role was kinda written for him….and he’s never made no secret on the fact that he plays the Phantom as being on the spectrum. And speaking as someone who does have an Autistic son and knows a little bit about it, picking up on social cues and reading certain emotional situations can be very hard at times for those that have it.
So if one interprets Erik as possibly being on the spectrum, I could see him saying something like that to Meg and not realizing until it’s too late how that might be taken.
Just speculating of course. 🤷♀

I know right!
It’s like saying that too someone who wants to be a Broadway star and the people around them are like “We can’t all be like Idina Menzel ,Jeremy Jordan or Eden Espinosa and it makes them feel even more worse.” I mean come on!
I know those actors cause Broadway is my dream, Elphaba is my dream role and Eden Espinosa is my favourite Elphaba/musical theatre legend
Who else came here craving cringe?!?!🤪🤪
Is this musical based on Susan Kay‘s sequel ? I never saw this one before. I wish Christine can live happily with Roaul. People should always make the best choice for themselves. Simple life is the best for a simple person. A person is innocent as Christine who should not have Phantom‘s kid. This love destroy her life completely. Even though I wish Christine and Phantom should be together when I was 20 years old. But 20 years later, I got married. I realize the simple life is the best.
Tengo una pregunta tiene un libro que se base de este musical? y si es asi podria decirme el nombre y el autor... por favorr
@@Gato_Sawa9 ‘the phantom of manhattan’ is the book title I believe. I don’t know the author.
Dorothy: I-I’m so sorry Gustave
5:31-5:36
Is she talking about prostitution?
Yes, and poor Meg, 😔 but honestly I don’t blame Erik here, not as much as I blame her mother, seriously I want to punch Madam Giry in Love Never Dies!
She’s not stupid, she knows Meg doesn’t have a snowballs chance in hell of winning the Phantoms attention yet she continues to give her daughter false hope, all the while being totally obviously to her daughters suffering, their is no way she couldn’t have been THAT oblivious to what Meg was doing behind the scenes!
And then she basically tells Meg that she prostituted herself for nothing, basically causing her daughter to have a mental breakdown…and then she has the gall to instead blame Erik and then Christine for being Erik’s obsession which is NOT her fault! When she should be looking in the mirror and blaming HERSELF for being a crappy mother!
Meg works for Erik but she’s not his freakin responsibility, he is not entitled to give her his personal attention…however Meg is Madam Giry’s DAUGHTER, and what the hell was she doing for the past 10 years?
Obsessing over The Phantom instead, to the point where I wonder if she was secretly in love with him too 😆
I just realized her picture in the back starts moving around 2:30.
First comment lols
Nice fiction... but it doesn't make sense if you've watched Phantom - Christine's reactions to the Phantom was not one of a woman who has been "broken into" by him. She resisted his advances. Now they have a child-??? 🤯🥺 Great money-making for Andrew Lloyd Webber, I guess.
I adore the music but the story is pretty ridiculous u.u
Yo creo que el que debía ser herido por el balazo era Raúl intentando salvar a Cristine y a Gustave
He has a mesmerizing take on the character.
it's like a bad soap opera
I sang this Till I Hear You Sing for one of my finals in highschool choir, it's such a fantastic and fun song.
It is an extremely underrated song, and probably because Love Never Dies has always had very mixed opinions from people (some love it, some hate it, some are in the middle)
However I’d argue ‘Til I Hear You Sing’ is right next to ‘Music of the Night’ as one of the greatest Phantom songs of all time in my not so humble opinion, I think it along with most of the other music in this show is some of the best Webber has ever written.
