The ending of Phantom must be oone of the best endings in musical history.. it is absolutely breathtaking... Sierra is one heck of a Christine and Ramin is one hell of a Phantom... I am mesmerized every time i watch this ending....
I got to hear him sing Music of The Night and Til' I Hear You Sing live at one of his NY concerts. I also got to see him play Jean Valjean in Les Mis on Broadway. Absolutely breathtaking!
It is sad that the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway is closing on April this year, but I will never stop listening to the songs of the soundtrack and watching the movie.
During the pandemic, they changed some things for the London production and reopened with changes. I believe that is what they are doing for the Broadway production.
@@LeonorFiniCat That is too bad. Any play where the underlying theme is Ableism should be put away in the same cupboard as Al Jolson and his blackface routine.
Michael Crawford lived next door to aunt and uncle in Bahamas and gave brother and new bride 2 tickets to Phantom in NY at Majestic. For a wedding gift.
The phantom's lair scene never fails to make me cry. Never. Ramin and Sierra are the best Phantom and Christine, period. What a production, and what a loss for Broadway 😢
ikr? I have watch the blue ray today and the end has made me cry. Its so touching how christine gives him love and he is just overwhelmed from it. He plays the role so amazing also the other actors too!
Well he is definitely an antagonist but I will never consider the Phantom to be the ‘Villain’, SOCIETY itself is the Villain of this story. Society that would treat an innocent child like a monster for something he couldn’t control (his face) and in response he grows up feeling like he has to be what the world labeled him as from birth, what his own mother labeled him as from birth…because nobody sees him as anything else 😢 A classic case of ‘since I’m always going to be a monster in the worlds eyes, I might as well embrace it’. And hence why it took Christine showing him love for the first time that allowed him to genuinely show love to her in return…someone saw him as something more then a monster so he could BE something more then a monster. ❤ Society is the villain in this story, not the Phantom. Just my opinion.
Welll, yes, be than you want to take into consideration the Nightwish version with Floor Jansen and Henk Poort as well. However, Ramin might be the most appropriate artist for the phantom.
I've seen every incarnation of The Phantom of the Opera since I was a teenager and I am just in love with the songs and story line. I love this production of it. Great cast. Great vocal talents from all three leads.
Ahh! Everytime I see a clip with Ramin and Sierra I have to watch it. Then I get all emotional , but it keeps suggesting it because I keep watching, so now I'm crying all the time . They are so perfect together 😭❤
Ramin and Sierra put their heart and soul into their performances and they were brilliant! There’s always someone who says Hadley overacted. This whole play is so full of drama and strong emotions that for him to play it any less would have been a disservice to the play. I did read once that he said he said the eyeliner he wore was a whole other character! Truly one of the best plays and absolutely the best performances in the history of the theater! Did anyone hear Ramin whisper “I love you” as Hadley and Sierra went up the stairs?
Whoah! Now I understand Phantom of the Opera... Bravo! Beautiful performance! Absolutely stunning casts and singers! Melts my heart! The phantom finally realised what real love is... But he knew he couldn't have Christine because she's still alive and he belongs to the dead. He realised it's better to free her and now that he knew that Christine made him feel what love is, he woke up to his senses and freed his obsession and everything including Christine back to her lover. Not all villains are bad. Some are indeed craving for just a little bit of kindness and understanding because they must have been badly hurt before and never received true love from those people. It only takes a small light of hope, love and kindness to brighten the dark - or the darkness in one's soul. 🌻🌷🌸🌷🌻
Absolutely breath-taking, that last scene always makes me cry my eyes out. The phantom never fails to make me wish Christine had gone with him. That "Christine I love you" is so heart wrenching and painful. I LOVE The Phantom of the Opera! Best show ever!
That was spectacular in every way. Such music. It's hard to comprehend how such genius creates something like this. Bravo to the cast, and how blessed we are that we get to hear this treasure. I hope this music is never lost to time, that the music of the night is never over.
What is really sad is that she starts to sing towards the Phantom and not and and not Raul ( even looks back to him) and seems very heartbroken when giving the ring back making some of us wonder if perhaps her feelings towards Erik may have been love but the circumstances and his actions was what pushed her to Raul's arms. There is a nod from Eric when she looks at him without words as if she is asking if the choice she's making/what she is doing is right?
By this production Love Never Dies was being produced so I think that this staging is giving a nod to the sequel in comparison to how it was originally staged.
Got to admit, that was a great rendition of the end sequence. I hade the privilege of seeing the original Canadian cast in the Pantages theater in Toronto in high school on my senior trip and it is hands down the best show I've ever seen. Then I got to see the American tour in Kalamazoo, MI back in 2007 I think with my wife. Once again, very good. I have to say this cast of leads would have been amazing to see live! I will truly miss Phantom. The one show I was never able to take my 2 daughters to see, and it is without a doubt a favorite of theirs. Owned the soundtracks of the Movie, the OG London and Canadian (CD bought when I saw it...very old and still kicking to this day) that they heard hundreds of times.
I had just listened to this whole thing while doing dishes and prepping dinner. It brings back memories of going to watch this for the first time with my grandmother when I was 8 at Broadway. And later going to see it in London with my wife at the Queen's Palace Theater. I was in absolute tears during the Phantom's performance here. All of the good memories flooded back. I used to sing the songs in the shower while growing up. I even said to myself I would play the part of the Phantom for free if budget cuts were a huge reason why they were stopping the production. This performance was the first time this play ever made me cry. Bravo/brava!
I agree with you in regard to Gerard Butler. He clearly is not a great singer but he had a decent "stage" voice and his acting chops made his Phantom more of a passionate and sympathetic character than many other portrayals. Add to that Joel Schumacher's excellent and imaginative direction, Emmy Rossum's Christine and the movie version, taken on its own terms, is quite good. I've seen Phantom in San Francisco and the shorter version that Hal Prince restructured for the Las Vegas run and loved both of them (with Frank D'ambrosio in SF and Anthony Crivello in Vegas). This 25th Anniversary version can stand with both of them. The staging is superb and, of course, Ramin and Sierra are as good as it gets. I have the Blu-ray's of this performance and the movie version and never tire of watching them.
I'm not really a musical guy, I don't end up enjoying most musicals and I've seen 20+ Broadway shows (my family loves them). Phantom, however, will always be one of my favorite pieces of media/anything - I listen to it almost weekly
What people don't know is that this play is really about the enchanted Monkey . These people have died but the enchanted Monkey lives on through new owners to this day.
I feel when at 9:13 he says “a mask, my first” is not only referred to his real first mask but also to the fact that in his life he has to wear so many mask not only in the literal meaning but also the mask he has to wear in his feelings. To emphasise this there is, after “my first”, a long pause that for me give this sense to the entire sentence. Am I alone to think that?
that was the takeaway i got from that too. sometimes all people know is to wear masks , like a self preservation thing, which of course is just a part of life. i think this story really does a good job of sharing and embracing the complex and tragic side of life
It’s the whole idea that’s he’s had to hide himself since birth practically since nobody, not even his own Mother, would accept him otherwise. That he could only be accepted so long as he hid himself. Hence why he felt he had to deceive Christine with the ‘Angel of Music’ ruse in order to get close to her, because like everybody else in his life he feared she’d reject him if he approached her for real…it’s heartbreaking 😢 That’s why what Christine does here when she kisses him shakes the very foundation of his worldview about himself…the idea that someone could see past his face floors him, and in a weird way she gave him permission to be a Man and not a Monster ❤ whereas the World had only ever allowed him to be a Monster.
Love Never Dies could not capture the magic of Phantom (sequels rarely do). But it was the only chance I had to see these two perform together live. They did not disappoint. So glad they made this film.
The Phantom of The Opera became part of New York, and rightly so! Currently mumber 1 Broadway attraction and after 2 years of Pandemic closure, it rose and is far from defeat. Set to close in 2 months, I pray that something happens that change this undeserving closure. We, the public, will be back at The Majestic Theater as long as the Phantom is there! They ate the best. I had never seen this and listened during lockdown when tye shoes were put online for free. Totally stunning and they've amazing
Best Broadway shows in my opinion:
1. Phantom and Les miz (tie)

I haven't watched this in so long. I had forgotten how moving the music is. Both Sierra Boggess and Karim Karimloo were perfectly cast in their roles.
Thanks! I was wondering who these were.

Every time I see Ramin Karimloo in this production, I am reminded of his immense natural talent. His acting and his voice - exceptional.
Ramin’s Phantom never fails to break my heart 😭
"Think of Me" reminds me of my dad. We went to see this and he was dressed up and looking dapper...only a few years older than I am now.
It’s that “SAYYYYY” that gets me every time ….
Happy belated anniversary Phantom Of The Opera! I am very sad that this show is closing. Wishing that their will be a US tour soon.
It is only on Broadway that the show will be closing. It will still be in the West End and Australia with Mandarin Chinese edition coming soon.
