    Hey everyone!
Michael here, with a great big thank you to each and every one of you for your wonderful well-wishes regarding my up-coming surgery!
I’m back home on bed rest, and am truly looking forward to getting back to tribal-related videos!
You all have been a true source of encouragement, strength, and inspiration for me, and I don’t take your input lightly!
Once again, a great big thank you, and well wishes to each of you facing difficult times in your own lives!
Upcoming videos will include my next video in my Led Zeppelin Decoded Series, my next video from my Beatles Unlocked Series, as well as a video showcasing Quinn Hedges’ brand new album, and of course more videos on the disrepair of the music industry, each focusing on the positive as well as what we as Rock fans can do in regard to letting the industry know that the same ol’ same ol’ isn’t quite doing it for us anymore!
So lots of stuff coming, as soon as I can crawl outta bed, folks!
    ‘We Are ‘The Tribe’! ❤️❤️❤️😉

Michael have you watched any of the Dennis De Young interviews as of late? what a pompous a** it's no wonder Tommy Shaw & James Young, don't want him back. The man is just so full of himself, he meanders & rambles, like David Lee Roth does, but Roth has ADHD & hyperactivity disorder, & he's a bonehead to boot, but I still love Dave. Dave is a funny, goofy pompous person. Dennis is a total "Primadonna" no thanks all always liked Styx, but him as a person no. He's very talented, great keyboardist, arranger, singer, performer. But those last to albums for me were a snorefest, bland no life. I wonder where was Castle Walls, Borrowed time, Lady, Sweet Madame Blue, I'm O.K , Grand Iillusion, Pieces of Eight, Light Up, Lorelie?, his songwriting was suspect to me. I think there was more co colaboration going on than we were led to believe, because the new songs suck not good boring😬😬😬😬😳😳😳😳🥴🥴🙄🤔🤔.

But now with one hand, my right hand my left arm is in the sling. Got other cool news to report I'm going to see Robert Plant & Allison Krauss in Lake Tahoe NV on 8/20/22, best birthday present ever, just 2 days after my 60th birthday. Mark Farner (former lead vocal, lead guitar and primary songwriter of Grand Funk Railroad) still has great vocal range and projection, excellent guitar skills and amazing onstage energy, especially considering he is in his 70s. Still sings all the great GFR songs in the same key.

    • @whyyeseyec
      @whyyeseyec 2 года назад +5

Farner is the only songwriter for GFR. Brewer wrote most of the lyrics for American Band with help from Farner while Farner also did the music. Brewer asked him if he could take credit for the song and Farner gave him the glory on that one. Sadly, as we all know, Farner let himself be stabbed in the back by the other two.

Robert Plant is VERY lucky that he didn’t destroy his vocal chords in the 70’s. Even if you have the ability to hit high notes like he could, doing that every night on tour could easily result in permanent damage. He also used to smoke! The reason he still sounds good today is because he learned a long time ago to not push it to the max every time. He also still sounds like Robert Plant, a lot of other older singers don’t even sound like themselves.

He sounded just like the old Dave Mason and played at least as well as the old Dave Mason but he also did three Traffic songs which he didn't do in the 70s. He did Low Spark of The High Heeled Boys Dear Mr Fantasy and Rock and Roll Stew and threw in covers of Can't Find My Way Home and All Along the Watchtower . I told you all of this to explain thats why any of these old shows are worth it. Sometimes it's magic. There should be a distinction between singers who sing with distortion, and singers who don't. Ann Wilson is a woman and doesn't use distortion, so she'll never lose her high notes like a man would.

Hi Michael…Helene here! Of course I agree with you 100% about my main man, RoBert Plant. I think he’s done a fantastic job of working with his voice as it ages….totally rejecting the idea of being a “jukebox” but rather always “mixing it up” as he likes to say….Re-imagining the catalogue in ways that are sometimes jaw-dropping. And he picks his collaborators so well, to get the sound he wants. I have the deepest respect for how he’s handled his post-Zeppelin career. I’m glad you agree with me! 😘😁✌️

I have a comment to make regarding some of these bands that probably should be retired. I am in my 30s and am a huge classic rock fan. I try to go to 2-3 concerts a month, time and finances permitting. Over the past ten years I've seen Van Halen, Kiss, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, the Who, the Eagles, Brian Wilson and many others. It's a mixed blessing for me because I'm seeing all of these bands toward the end of their career, but had they stopped years ago when they were still on top, odds are I wouldn't get to see them at all now. Is it heartbreaking to see Brian Wilson use a walker to get on stage? Absolutely it is. But am I grateful I had the opportunity to see a living legend? Again, absolutely. Just food for thought here.

Not only did they sound the same, they have all actually aged well, particularly Susanna. She is no longer a cutesy sex kitten, but I actually like her more matured look, even today at age 62 (63?). She recently did a solo performance on Independence Day 2021. The band also performed until 2020 when COVID hit. As usual Bruce, wonderful points here! Your comments show the same insights that your videos show on your channel ‘The R&B Show’!
I strongly encourage all of my viewers to check your channel out every chance I get! Wonderful stuff!
I agree with you regarding a tour after O2, but brother, had it happened, I woulda been there with bells on!
That show showed that the three original members along with Bonzo Jr., still had a magic that oh so closely matched their former greatness!
To have actually seen the greatest Rock guitarist of all time, along with Rock & Roll’s premiere multi-instrumentalist, and them fronted by the greatest singer of the 20th century, would have blown what’s left of my mind!
And then a miracle upon a miracle! John ‘Bonzo’ Bonham had a son! A son who was either inspired ny his father’s legendary skill, or because of some DNA-Influenced ability, has a lot of the chops his old man had! He was literally born to do this job!
But you know Bruce, I think that Robert’s decision not to continue with an extended tour is exactly why Robert Plant is one of Rock’s true elder statesmen!
Robert’s recent musical endeavors, although not as earth shattering as Led Zeppelin, I feel not only forges new musical frameworks, but also embraces the need to expand upon that which came before, showing him to be one of the few creative artists that never really lost his way!
It artists like Robert Plant, Kronos Quartet, Dead Can Dance, and Carlos Nakai, who are willing to embrace that whole Rock-N-Roll-Outlaw identity, believing that rules were meant for the masses, and art sometimes demands rule-breakers and Trail Blazers!
A few have commented that I’m just another Boomer, boasting of the good old days, and complaining about how music nowadays just ain’t what it used to be!
They say I’ve used the ‘worst of now’ and compared it to the ‘best of then’! They’ve commented that I’ve only covered Pop-Icons of the 2000s to prove my point, all the while ignoring great artists who are, and have been creating truly great music all along!
They have mentioned that bands and artists like Radiohead or Beck, have been excellent at producing truly innovative and even brilliant works!
And I agree with them regarding these artists who have done their part to continue to evolve the sound of Rock & Roll!
But Radiohead and Beck aren’t what casual music listeners hear when they tune into what’s on the Top 100 on Billboard, let alone the Top 10!
And there have been a ‘Litany of Britanys’ long before The Mickey Mouse Club 2,0! Horrible Pop music can be found in every era and decade!
In the 60s & 70s we had plenty of crap that sometimes made you wanna put on something by Perry Como, and watch paint dry! If Songs like ‘Torn Between Two Lovers’, and ‘I Honestly Love You, weren’t enough to make you ill, there was always ditties like, ‘I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar, Or the equally offensive ‘Do You Think I’m Sexy’!
And when you thought that the insipid ‘Billy Don’t Be A Hero’ could never be topped as an all-time low, lyrics like “Goodbye Papa, It’s hard to die, with all the birds singing in the sky” from the even worse ‘Seasons in the Sun’ would send you running to the nearest vomitorium leaving you holding your fiddle like Good ol’ Nero himself!
Boomers vs Millennials isn’t the problem!
I want to be a witness to at least one more event like Elvis in the fifties, The Beatles, in the sixties, Led Zeppelin in the seventies, The Police in the eighties, and Alice In Chain & Nirvana in the nineties!
Remember, never hire a Mouseketeer to do anything except, well Mouseketeer!
With many embracing the enticing and immediately gratifying world of gaming, and find similair thrills interacting on social platforms, many find it difficult to focus and quiet the mind!
I feel the next big Rock-Era will be the ‘Multi-Media-Artist-Era’… I be covering what I mean by this in my upcoming video covering what the next Rock Icons need to offer specifically!
That’s gonna be an eye opener for many who are capable of thinking ‘outside of the box’!
The days of the the 7-Headed TV/Radio/Film/Recording/Newspaper/Magazined Hydra is over! Even when this worked it couldn’t account for the occasional Beach Boy, or Beatle who would then in turn, turn the music industry on it’s head!
These geniuses didn’t rely on the music Industry! Rather they often butted heads with it! Maybe it’s time to do it again!
Sorry, Bruce, for the long-winded response, but you really seem to have the knack for starts ‘My Mind (to) Wandering’, and that’s always a dangerous proposition!❤️😉👌

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine It’s always a pleasure getting your keen (and always entertaining and forthright) insights on things. That’s why your channel is kicking ass.
What many people don’t point out in all this generational talk about old vs new artists is that it’s not just an issue of talent. It’s the fact that music itself has been devalued in status/importance. Back in the 60s-80s, it was the epicenter of youth culture. Now, it’s just more disposable content to skim through. No one is incentivized to bust ass on creating truly great albums when albums themselves no longer sell (unless you are “Tay-Tay,” Adele, or Beyonce maybe). It’s just one of many homogenized entertainment options now and being in a legit rock group is probably (and sadly) the farthest thing from “cool”.

By one's 60's, it comes down to the sort of music being sung. I haven't heard Plant sing live since 2010, but his Band of Joy show brought me as much delight as my first concert, Led Zeppelin in 1970. And he played several of the old songs, but knew how to adjust for age. Your suggestions for McCartney, I can remember watching Chrissie Hynde do this in the 90's - she rocked the Pretenders stuff hard through the late 80's, but by '94 the men in the audience were balding and she was focusing on the slower numbers, which was good - because Precious wasn't the show-stopper it once was. There was a Pretenders live album with a string quartet, I think, that preserved this phase for posterity. And those who weren't trying to rock hard to begin with are sometimes lucky with their voices lasting. Emmylou still sounds good to me live, but she knew to change the way she sang when she reinvented herself for Wrecking Ball. Sheryl Crow still sounds fine live, doing old and new material, and I think is over 60. David Crosby somehow still had a pristine voice live in 2019, though everyone that age skips the high notes and goes an octave lower.
I just don't see the appeal of going to see the geezers. And I am one at 68. I went to see McCartney around 2009 just to see a Beatle, and it was a good show, but it's been the same show for decades down to the fireworks in Live and Let Die. I went to see the Pixies in 2010, and they were fine even if they'd aged 20 years. I went to a few of the 50th-Woodstock-anniversary shows out of nostalgia. But I wouldn't see those artists again, and mostly it helps to appreciate newer music. Many artists from the 90s are still in very good form, and those in their 30's and 20's are a delight, still - if you take the trouble to find new music and to get out and hear it. Of course many of our tastes are stuck in our formative years, and I'm not sure why mine isn't, why I've sought out new music all my life. But if I see tickets on sale for artists I saw in their prime in the 70's or 80's, I almost always pass. I accidentally saw Jagger as a surprise guest, taking my daughter to a Taylor Swift show in 2015, and he was so far off key, and singing Satisfaction in his 70's, it just tarnished my 1960's-70's memories of the Rolling Stones. As you say for McCartney, maybe if he sang the slow numbers. Or maybe if he reinvented himself like Plant has. But the people still pay for the remaining Rolling Stones, who seem to enjoy playing.

Sure we had our clunkers too! Billy Don’t Be A Hero, I Honestly Love You, and I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar were examples of lesser works, or at least to my ears!
But when mixed with A Whole Lotta Love, Magic Carpet Ride, & even She Blinded Me By Science later, we always got a better blend of POP music!
Then a Litany of Britanys ensued! Ive said it before, and I’ll say again… OUCH!

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Yes, I have to admit that while I keep finding new music I love, what's in the mainstream leaves me pretty cold, and has for 20 years. There's good songwriting still out there playing to a small audience, and there are still rockers - saw the Distillers a few years back in a crowd full of tattooed old punk rockers in wheelchairs, show nearly cancelled because of the singer's back problems. Their opener, Starcrawler, rocked hard and were maybe 20 years old. I have their first record, but that stuff never makes it to the mainstream and I only hear new rock music if I seek it out or if it turns up on a community-run radio station.

I just sing within my range, and I know what runs to not try on guitar. Everyone goes through this. You hit it on the head when you talked about Robert Plant. He has stayed true over time. Peace

Love your Chanel and insight. In the late 90s 96? Went to see Frank Sinatra even though he was like my dad’s generation. And I’m a rock band guy. But because he was a cultural icon. And a great singer. But Jesus it was like watching your 80 year old grandfather in a tux trying hard to sing. Got to laugh but Frank just did not have it anymore. But hell he’s 80. Fast forward 25years later. Some bands & singer . Well what ever

I agree with you on several points. Nobody singing like they could back in the day and can keep the same schedule of concerts on tour year after year. You need to improvise and you need to rest. But on top of that you need to create new ways of showing your talent. If the fans love it then they'll buy it. If not, then they can listen to the older albums. If they have a problem they must realize that no one is going to live forever. Not you not them, and not me. :)

Robert Mason ( Current the lead singer for Warrant) was hired to ghost Ozzy's vocals from the side stage back in the 90's. During the final Black Sabbath tour they not only had a singer ghosting Ozzy but a guy who played guitar and keyboards standing on the other side of the stage.
The one band that uses tracks on stage and doesn't really hide the fact that they do is Ghost. They use them because the way they layer the vocals to get the effects they want, there is only one way to do it and that is with tracks.

As a musician, I've watched one of my favorites, Paul McCartney, adjust to his diminished range that just happens to occur with age, can't be helped, by changing the key of his music.
Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin are the only vocalists in their later years who's voice never really changed.
I'm sure there are more examples that I'm unaware of but my point is that I'd pay full ticket price just for the honor of sharing a cup of coffee with any of these icons for five minutes, cuz their music and talent is firmly fixed in my head and heart from way back.

Still have the Stones. They're doing " Out of time" which hasn't been performed live since the sixties. I'm critical of the Stones and was reluctant to compare them to the original live version. I couldn't believe it actually sounded as good or better. Some thanks to Jordan , because he's trying to stay as tight as he can to Charlie's original drumming and that tune Charlie never altered. Very clean comparison to a song done sixty years earlier of theirs. 😎

Roger Daltrey's still belting out Who tunes pretty damn good for his age. Speaking of The Who, Michael (that's my name too), I love this channel, but I'm honestly a bit bothered by the lack of Who material here. They're easily one of the best bands of all time. THE best live band ever. Roger's roaring lead vocals, Townshend the lunatic guitarist/genius writer, Moon the loon's mad orchestral drumming and unrivaled antics, Entwistle, thunder fingers, god of the bass... come on!!!! Start mentioning these GODS OF ROCK in these epic videos of yours. It's sacrilege not to. Cheers 🍻

@@joebloggs8636 thank you. Fair paly to Mike. The bands he talks about are great, but to leave The Who almost entirely out of the conversation... no way. Mike's a Led Zep guy and I am too for sure. Let's not forget that when Jimmy Page first started to select members for this new band he recruited John Entwistle and Keith Moon to leave The Who and go with him. They declined. Keith commented something along the lines that that band Jimmy was forming would go down like a lead zeppelin (blimp/baloon). It was later when Jimmy found his second choices that he phoned up Moon to ask if he minded if he used what Moon had said as their official name. Facts.

Oldest performer I saw was Dave Brock I guess....Hawkwind, some 7 years ago, so he was like 74 then. Great gig it was too! Was with a friend who is some 13 years older than me and a big Hawkwind fan, he saw them first in '74 or something.....I was 4 at that time 🤣. We even had a short conversation with another fan as we were one of the first in the concert hall....guy comes up to chitchat telling he first saw them in '69 🤣......when my parents were still talking about having me or not. Very much an old geezer gathering but the music was solid af!!! And Brock doing his thing at 74 years of age, after consuming the stuff they have consumed over the years.....admirable. Great music, loved it! I was a bit drunk afterwards.....maybe a bit more than that as I lost my phone on the way home. 🤣🤣🤣
