- While waiting for golfers on the 7th hole at St Andrews, I decided to make a little video that I thought would help you guys and gals. This is a shot that has helped me to become a better player all round!
Learn how to play one of the most useful shots in golf with Iona!
The famous, chip and run! Sometimes called the ‘bump & run’ this is a shot that will get you up and down, time after time….especially on links golf courses!
We hope this is helpful to you :) - Кино
Iona is pure class. An absolute gem in every respect.
Great advice, as Gary Player would say "Low for the dough, High for the cry🙂
Love the 7 iron chip and run.
Golf and Iona. Perfect ! Great stuff Iona as always !
Great wee video Iona I love using the pitch and run I always use my 7 iron
Iona it's fantastic to see you back i use my 8,9&w..i love watching you it's so educational about how to get the ball around the course ❤ 😊
My game improved immensely when I began using a 9 iron just off the green to bump and run low chips. It's much easier to control. Thanks Iona!
Chip & run is when you don't fancy paying for your fish and chips
😂
Perfect timing! My short game seems to have gone down the toilet and what you described and demonstrated might be what I'm looking for - other than taking up another sport 🙂 Many thanks and I absolutely love your golf related videos and any that you appear in by other content providers.
Thanks Iona. I try to use this as much as possible. Very useful. Have an awesome day!
I remember playing the Ald, a dream come true for an ameteur golfer, there's many stories, but your chip and and run vid made me think of the 18th, I'd hit a 3 wood fade up the right, over granny Clarks wind but nicely in bounds, flag was middle of the left half, wind was down, I took out a 6 iron, my line was middle right half of the valley of sin, I saw nothing else but a low runner, I struck it beautifully, it pitched before the valley, skipped and ran up stopping about a meter or so on the flatter part, a brisk walk up and mark the ball, didn't want it slipping back into the valley, a long lag putt that left me a 4 footer, heart thumping I stood over the par putt, right to left it rolled up, right edge annnnd in it fell for a closing par😅
I took my cap off and turned to look back down the course and quietly said thank you.
Hi Iona- Do you play a toe-down chip ever? If so, would you mind showing us how you play it and explaining the advantages/cons of this shot? Thank you! I enjoy your content so much!
I have to try this. Chipping has been my nemesis for years
Love the chip and run shots. Thanks for the refresher, hopefully I'll get down to that 9.8, much appreciated. Keep smiling.
Thanks, these little bite size instructional vids are handy between life's little administrative tasks.
Great little shot so well explained
A beautiful summers day at the home of golf
Another great thought is to think about how hard you’d need to throw the ball underarm to know how hard to hit the ball.
Great tip!! Thank you!
It's a great shot to have in the bag if it's well practiced, but the higher percentage shot is the putting stroke with a mid iron. IMO
I sometimes use a 5 wood for shots around the green and use it like a lofted putter..... if that makes sense, it works fine for me. Love your content Iona, keep it up
Such a useful shot. So handy on links (where I learned my golf) but I find I can use it on certain holes at my local course (Scots expat living in Northern California). Bamboozels my American playing friends 🤣
Definitely improves your chances of getting up and down creating lower scores and having more fun on the golf course 👍👌
I find my 52 good for the bump and run as you can put a nice bit of check on it to especially the nice low one
Thanks iona , I've been shanking my chip shots lately was told I have been leaning over too much even done it with my driver so frustrating ,
Awesome videos love them subscribe
beautiful !!!!!
Where was this tip on Sunday past? Thanks for the tips.
It's unlikely to make a highlight reel, but it's a much higher percentage shot when you're able to use it.
I just learned there is an Isle of Iona off the southwest coast of Mull in the Inner Hebrides. Were you named after the Island, or was the island named after you?
Yes I was and infact this Friday we’re releasing a video from there!! 👀
Square stance or slightly open?
Both work actually, do what feels comfortable to you :) and it might vary depending on the lie of the ball xx
Why is there not a chippy in the East Neuk called The Chip and Run 😂
That’s a great idea!!
Because it's Scotland, and it's called a 'Bump and Run'!
Hi Iona You need to teach Rick Sheilds He had a nightmare playing Tommy Fleetwood
Such a useful and vital shot….thanks 👍🏌🏼♂️❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great advice! Explained in every detail, save quite a number of shots during a round! Thanks a lot 🙏🙏🙏
