The irony of the screws for $900 is that Leo Fender was kind of notorious for being a bit of a tightwad. The screws that this guy is selling for almost a grand for a set of 8 would have sold in any hardware store in the US for less than a dime for the same set (albeit a 1950s dime). They would have been the least expensive screws that he could find that fit the description he needed when purchased by the case at a local hardware supplier. There's nothing custom or even special about them; in all likelihood they were made by several different manufacturers over the years and purchased based only on the prices and availability of what was in stock the day they were purchased. Indistinguishable products can still be found by the box in today's markets just as easily for the equivalent cost of lunch at McDonalds.
Sugizo is an awesome Japanese guitar player. Besides his solo stuff and Luna Sea, he plays for X Japan a massively popular Japanese metal (visual kei) band.
So many ridiculous fake pre-cbs fender parts out there. As someone who collects old fenders, there is absolutely no way to verify those screws as original.
Correct-size thread is worth a bunch. If I turn it counter-clockwise until it drops in the hole, and then screw it in using the same thread that was cut at the factory in the olden days, it doesn't wear the wood out as fast.
@@hoboroadie4623 And the wood under the screw matters enough that you cannot just patch that old hole and make a new one? Especially when, except the strap holders and string trees, I don't think there's any screws that didn't hold something that would completely hide the patch work under it in Fenders. For $900 you could probably send the guitar to Fender or just any "the best" luthier around to have them do the exact thing of making a peg for the old screw hole, wait for glue to dry, drill a new pilot hole and attach a new tonally perfected screw (sorry, I really tried but slipped at the last meter).
Obviously it makes no difference for its function, but the metal alloy is probably different. I recently bought some p up pole screws made of the alloy used in the 60s that sound better than the current alloy. But they cost screw prices, not $850
The funny thing is someone could have changed the screws on their 50s guitar in the 70s because they got rusty. How would someone buying the guitar 50 years later ever know? So stupid
What's even funnier is that Artists on Top Of The Pops had to Mime their Songs at that time period, so technically he pretended to play Fly Away on that guitar on Top Of The Pops in 1999! 😂 PS. You can see him obviously mime on the RUclips Video!
Someone so obsessed with authenticity that they'd spend that kind of money on pickguard screws without certificates of authenticity, deserves what they get.
I don’t think the kraken bass is too crazy. Looks better than a lot of custom shop guitars at the same price. Cool if you are into collecting nice unique pieces.
6:14 I thought early Fender guitars had standard slotted screws, not Phillips screws. How do we know the previous owner didn’t replace the slotted screws with Phillips screws to make maintenance easier or to make the guitar look newer?
The Yen works out at approximately at a 100:1 conversion ratio to the Australian dollar. 1 Yen is roughly equal to 1 Australian cent. So that's $12,000 (AUD). Which is roughly, at $1 AUD to $0.66 (USD), $8,000 (USD).
"Was everybody in the '60s and '70s on drugs?" Well, I was a baby in the '70s and had a constant buzz from all the second-hand smoke, so... yeah, I think so.
That triple neck guitar cost roughly $7800 when it was originally sold. Given inflation, that would be $19000 give or take a little bit (assuming it was made around 1990).
That Maxitone Moon bass is pretty sick tbh. I could definitely see myself paying $1k for it, just for the fact that they are extremely rare and very unique. I'm not sure how to find bass strings for a 28.5" bass tho. A new trussrod should be easy to make, so that isn't necessarily a huge issue.
8:23 Do you know what's even funnier about this listing, Artists on Top Of The Pops had to Mime their Songs at that time period, so technically he pretended to play Fly Away on that guitar on Top Of The Pops in 1999! 😂 PS. You can see him obviously mime on the RUclips Video!
Was everyone on something in the 60s and 70s? Yes. Yes they were. Not even joking. Side Note: I bought my Squier Baritone Jazzmaster from Stokkers. I even went back, and bought a Stokkers shirt as a thank you. Great people! Great business! I highly recommend them.
Pickguard screws...some folks just want everything to be original....I sold a 65 Strat pickup for $400 to someone w a 65 that needed a pickup. Before selling it I A/B ed it w the "Abby" 69 pickup .Every good quality the 65 had the modern one did better , and w out the slight harshness the 65 had . Now I see crazy prices for vintage p ups , that they are not going to get . I did a long auction and that was the highest bid. Vintage prices have gone crazy, but I doubt they're selling.
The only thing that triple neck ESP listing was missing was "Serious buyers only, no lowballs, I know what I got". And if those screws go for that much I know exactly how to age metal reaaaaaaaaally easily with a 9v battery and some vinegar.
Some reverb listings are far less legit than others and should be scrutinized more effectively to ensure the scammers don’t have access to these types of platforms, good luck with that, right? lol…
I find the random screw listings the funniest. Someone is seriously selling screws from '56 Strat and my first thought is, what happened to the guitar? Is it some Reverb thing to sell guitars in pieces to try to maximize the profits because some Joe Bonamassa is ready to shell out $900 for only the screws and probably $300 for the tail grounding wire and $1,200 for the set of frets (original, so they have the perfect "patina")? Is the body sold as cocktail sticks or do you get it in 5 equal pieces costing an arm and a leg each?
My grandfather used STP, even put what was left in the bottom of the bottle in his lawn mower. Once I put a bottle in my rattling Ford Pinto in the 80's. It made the engine sound a little better, so I put another bottle. After 5 miles of driving, the engine blew. I haven't used the stuff since.
Nope. It doesn't. Its the lighting. That's a rosewood board on the photo of Kravitz playing it. As stated in the listing, Lenny Kravitz top of the pops 1999 - search it on youtube and see for yourself.
How do you know those screws were the originals and why would you remove them and not put them back in the first place. They look like the screws in my vintage Precision but so do new replacements.
I had one of those Fender screws stuck in my flip flop after a walk down to the beach circa 1969....I am thinking it's worth at least 2K, what do you think?
Interestingly, I think the moon shaped guitar, although a bit overpriced, is not at the "ridiculously" level. I usually have a couple of oddballs in the rack, and I'm currently having a lot of fun with a 60's Kent 540, and looking at the marketplace for similar stuff. The old, fancy, or weird are real popular right now. I would guess.this baby would bring $500 or so If it works....
LUNA SEA is one of the most influential “VISUAL” bands, and Sugizo, the lead guitarist of the band, is filling in for HIDE for X-JAPAN (major influence on BABYMETAL’s sound). Also, he is a huge fan of PRINCE, so you got that totally right about the design!
Yep Sugizo was essentially the "spiritual successor" to Hide which were gigantic shoes to fill when Hide died. Both huge figures in J-Rock/Visual Kei. I definitely want one of those ESP Cloud guitars in my collection one day if one ever pops up when I can afford it.
Yep, fluff needs to do a bit of research first. It is overpriced as it doesn’t have a COA linking it to Sugizo- if it did I think it would be justified.
Seems like with a certificate of authenticity signed by Leo Fender, those pickguard screws would not be much more than eight or nine-hundred dollars overpriced.
Was everybody on drugs in the 70s ? At the ELP concert supporting the first album, I went to light a joint just as the people to my right and left were passing me one. So, yes, yes we were.
While Kraken rum isnt as big a brand as Jack Daniels is, it's one of the most popular rum brands here in the UK (if not the most popular). If it wasn't for the fact that the final cost would be a bit over 10k after import fees, tax, etc... I could actually see that selling here tbh.
I could care less about Lenny Kravitz but a friend of mine used to have an old fender super sonic that was the same blue sparkle such a pretty guitar and hell id definitely like one of those PCB business cards I have a small collection of them from a couple companies right now but not a Jupiter FX one I haven't gotten around to building any yet just for the fact I don't have a decent enclosure for them
Brother Ryan. I’d love to snag one of those cards off you! What would you charge a former Bremerton boy who now lives in Ga? Just cause it’s yours and it would remind me of the music scene back there. I’m trying to collect a bunch of gear from interesting musicians. So far I’ve got a tuner from the Mxpx boys and a compressor pedal from one of the sleeping with sirens dudes. Also if you specifically have and pedals for sale let me know!
New rule: you have to buy one thing every episode. Show us that money, Diamond Jim
Luna Sea is huge band in Japan. ESP makes a lot of their signature models, and they are all pretty cool
5:44 a diy fuzz pedal business card once owned by Ryan Fluff Bruce!? Heck yeah I want one!
That will cost $51,000. Then Fluff can critique his own post. It’s a guitar ouroboros.

Mastodon should get that octopus guitar.

Those screws look mighty clean to be from a '50s Fender!
People take really good care of their screws? IDK, I got nothing really.....
The funny thing is someone could have changed the screws on their 50s guitar in the 70s because they got rusty. How would someone buying the guitar 50 years later ever know? So stupid
8:22 A $50k ask, 5 photos, and 5 sentences? What a deal! 😂

That is no moon, that is a bass.
I don’t think the kraken bass is too crazy. Looks better than a lot of custom shop guitars at the same price. Cool if you are into collecting nice unique pieces.
Those screws look like they were pulled out of a bin at a hardware store for $2
My guy. You *don't* want the Cresent Moon to curve the other way. It's got the ultimate belly cut! 😆
I just got ahold of a Ampeq Jet, and a Yamaha JX40, and a Peavey Classic 112 !!! Stoked. I mean it was a lil baby nugget gold mine of yumminess.
love the kermit impression on point lmao

Abbey Road Console mk. 1 is at $3,051,757.07. 15 offers. 10/29 listed 14 hours ago.
If I had that kind of money, would I do it?
Kurt Bollu of COnverge and God City started the Pedal PCB business card thing
Thanks Fluff! Peace
Love that tee shirt, favorite band from the first time I heard Dead and blotted…
Kraken is a very well known rum here in UK. Sure not to the level of something like Jack Daniels is worldwide, but it's still extremely popular.
that business card thing is actually really neat, i’ve never seen something like that and it’s genius
Kermit was spot on.
No COA I think one of two things: 1) fake, or 2) stolen.
2:41 ayyyy one of my fav guitarist from my 2nd favorite band
Definitely open to one of those fuzz biz cards 🤘🤘
Fluffhead is a song by Phish
kraken rum is very popular in Guernsey Channel Islands uk were I live ! love the stuff
Fluffhead has a reputation beyond repute!
You can tell they are 50s fender screws from the toan, obviously!

"Very, very, very extremely rare" is the rarest rare you can ever rare. Even rarer than "very, very, very exceptionally rare!" Cheers....
I just placed an order for that STP shirt
I really need to start selling random screws on Reverb. It seems like a lucrative business.
Dude I'd love to have one of those cards/Fuzz circuit boards.

Id want one of those cards so much lol, im in process of heavily using my super fuzz for my album
Sugizo has been a big deal in Japan since the early 90s. I still wouldn't pay it. 😅
The half-moon bass was the most reasonable deal. I would almost want it, if only for decor.
The Lenny Kravitz guitar just dropped its price by $24,000.
8:23 Do you know what's even funnier about this listing, Artists on Top Of The Pops had to Mime their Songs at that time period, so technically he pretended to play Fly Away on that guitar on Top Of The Pops in 1999! 😂

As someone with more years down the road then you, that was a pretty good Kermit.

Your Kermit sounds a little more like Milton from Office Space. Haha.
Kraken bass would be great for a bar or something.
One peace body is the giveaway
The only thing that triple neck ESP listing was missing was "Serious buyers only, no lowballs, I know what I got". And if those screws go for that much I know exactly how to age metal reaaaaaaaaally easily with a 9v battery and some vinegar.
That esp statement also goes on that "Kravitz Strat"
I'll make 5 guitar picks from that business card with my handy PickPunch!
In the 60's and 70's everyone around guitars or any kind of music was on drugs. I was there, believe me.
Some reverb listings are far less legit than others and should be scrutinized more effectively to ensure the scammers don’t have access to these types of platforms, good luck with that, right? lol…

Another great show, but perhaps if you shrink your circle just a tiny bit, the viewers could read the listing right along with you! Good licks!
Damn I thought you would have that 15k mad max doof guitar on today 😢

The shirt is for the band, not the oil
He put Stone Temple Pilots in his Lawn Mower?
@@S-T-E-V-E Too much rock for the Pinto
Sorry but the Kraken guitar made in 2021 of all years, inevitably made me think of Sydney Powell. So… stupid and dated, but well executed!! 😂
Killer Kermit impression
looking at that sparkly strat, the photo of the guy playing it looks like it’s a maple fretboard whereas the guitar in the listing isn’t a maple board

The answer is yes, there were many drugs and it was a totally rad, Dude😊
LOL I'd love one of those PCB cards lol
Blue Rocker guitars must be on the level of Fodera for that price. There are bigger names in that price bracket I'd spend the money on, if I had it.
Nice.

I’d love one!
Kraken listing “one PEACE neck” lol
no, it says "body", lol ............

Flamed mahogany... why is it painted instead of clear coated???
Whaaat I thought Tuesday was ham sandwich day at Fender's back in the day and now you're telling me Wednesday!? We need Joe to clarify.
No tuesday was bacon day, common misconception
Not in '56 tho, ham was banned that year
Fender made sandwiches before they made guitars?
Yes I want a fuzz business card… please 🤓🎸🙏🗽🥓
Anybody has $50,000 cash laying around they’ll just buy a car not a Guitar and that thing ain’t worth more than three grand
I'll take one of those PCBs you have ;)
That Boomerang bass actually has a really ergonomic design giving the bass player a place to put his pot belly
It's not on reverb but there's a dude on eBay selling Glarry guitars that are like 80-110$ signed by bands and charging 500-1500 $ for them
