I ran this tutorial in segments in a side window until learned what was what. finally, today, I made the whole trip w/o incident thanks to these vids. Instructions were perfect, now I can take advantage of this great product. won't be using the "stock" 747 any more. Thank you again for taking the time to help out us PC pilots
This is the tutorial that helped me learn to fly the majority of the PMDG 747 system. I really love this tutorial because you explained everything or the majority of your steps. You told us how it affects this and that, it was really intuitive! Thanks so much!
This is the best PMDG 747 tutorial i've ever encountered in RUclips. You must be a real pilot. It's the way you describe things that makes me think you're a real pilot(if not a real 747 pilot) Thanks very much for this video. It helps us a lot in understanding the functions of many parts of 747 cockpit and how they interact with each other. You also taught us about flight charts with all its flying restrictions.
Great video..esp the FMC programming part. Learning to enter each SID/STAR waypoints manually and making fixes to match up to approach charts was a fantastic learning experience. Great tips. Learned quite a lot myself.
They all have cabins and virtual cockpits. It's vastly easier though for a tutorial to use the much simpler 2D cockpit/panel views. The sounds are absolutely incredible in all PMDG products. I fly on Southwest a lot and their 737 sounds for that plane are spot on. Even the airflow noises when you drop gear.
@michelarjuna A good way is to install FSCommander on your PC, you will have all SID/STAR and it´s path on a map, easy to visualise and choose the correct one.
@Kubolineczka What I just do is make an estimate of the runway and when I ask for clearance to land the airport gives me an approach. look at your STAR chart and get then do what you would do if you were planning the flight from your destination.
To bring it up, either press the alt button on your keyboard or right click and then press show menu bar if you don't have it displayed already. Then hover your mouse over instrument panel and then click on panel switcher.
@ThePilotBuddy I had the same probmlem with yaw damps. I followed the check lists to the letter and never got them to work. I check the start ups of several others here on you tube and NONE follow the actual check list in the PMDG 744 manual. After fighting with it over and over, I learned what was needed for flight and just did what I thought was right and made up my own order. Low and belhold, no more yaw damp inop. try it, just get it running w/o the manual. then follow this tutorial GL
(2/3) if I have forgotten to fix something. So, the first problem is, that my B744 (MD11 of PMDG also) can't hold an altitude. eg. I want to have 31000 feet, the plane isn't able to hold it. It flies up and down, up and down, up and down for the whole flight. But not some feet the V/S turns up to 1800 ft sometimes.
Thanks for your time in making this Tutorial, however, when I open up my EICAS window which appears open as your's, it remain "black". The 10 buttons appear on the upper right, but when I press each of the buttons nothing appears...Have any ideas why this is happening?
Meloescher Hey, thanks for the video, i heard you where wondering what does DRAG REQUIRED means, and it means that your current actual speed is highier than what is programmed on the FMC, so Drag is required so you will be able to reduce the speed to what is programmed on FMC, and btw the IRS do that without any human intervention :)
PMDG came out with the 747 Queen of the Skies 2, Version 3. Have you seen it? Would like you to do a tutorial on it. I appreciated all your work on the original.
If your PMDG747 X is having problems at cruise level, maintaining the required heading, maybe before you load a your PMDG 747X flight, you could try unselecting winds aloft in the Settings Display >Weather section of FSX. If this works, it may be as had been suggested, winds aloft causing your 747 problems in holding direction, If it makes no difference then obviously it's not the wind aloft. Good luck!
(1/2)Hello, at first I want to thank meloescher for the great tutorial! I have a very important question. Since months I have a big problem with the B744 of PMDG. A problem which I didn't have at the beginning. I couldn't find the cause nor could I fix it, I don't know if it is an incompatibility problem with MSFX or .....
Great tutorial videos. Thank you for doing them. Do all FMC's operate the same way? If i have another aircraft, would I expect the proceedures to be the same way? Thank you.
@meloescher ok,i found some charts called jeppesen but i like a lot more the charts usen in your tutorial which are called aeronautical group.where did you find them?they are great
Meloescher, great tutorial. But I have a big question they prevents me flying. when you turn on your battery first your PFD and ND comes with full navigation and AI without setting your IRS and GPS. In mine, they just appear with no Attitude indicator or navigation lines. How come? From PMDG 737NGX I know that you have to put your initial IRS positions for them to activate. However, although I align my IRS, they still don't show anything. Any idea?
nice tutorial. i need some help though. i was doing an ifr fromKJFK-EGLL with fspassengers and as it got to day (because it was a night flight) my engines stopped running because of fuel. at the beginning when you load passengers an baggage theres an option for how much fuel you want to load. i put the fuel to its highest which is 100% and it still cut out at the same point of the flight. in the fsx settings i puyt the fuel to unlimited. still the same problem. is the pmdg 747 or fspassengers
(3/3)Until now I couldn't fix it, neither with exact fuel calculation, nor with exact programming of the FMC.The second and worst problem is that my plane is absolutely not able to hold the.......
How can I Open the Map and when I Start the battery it doesnot Look like in the Movie all Displays are Black with a few White Lines can you help me please
Flying the 747 was always my dream.... i have FS2004...or maybe getting it reinstalled..cos of an invalled..i dunno it just told me to... but i had the PMDG 747,747 and MD11...the 737 is easy,md11 doesnt work..747 wont let me fly it..i did insert everything into the FMC...(have no joystick) i took off automatically and it just keeps flying up..i press the nav.. and it the FMC tells me it's unavaillable.. any cure?
ok, guys i have a problem with my PMDG 747(I should mention right away, that it's pirated). OK so, i downloaded it a few months ago and then in worked GREAT! But after reinstalling FSX I came across a problem: if i turn on the autopilot, the plane starts to descend and just bank steeply to right. Or sometimes in even won't let me turn it on, because it says that excessive control.... whatever it was. Any suggestions?
i just printed em out btw i already posted this but you can change the approach halfway through flight right? and when you make the ring around Malpensa 35L how do you get it to do that because nothing happens when I do that
(4) magenta line (the track I meant). It isn't able to follow the track. Suddenly during the flight it flies left and right of it, like slalom; meandering course. It's really annoying, I tried many things to fix it (reinstall the game, install the update etc...): I really like the PMDG simulations, thus I am really desperate of this things. Can anyone help me or has an idea? Thanks!
ok i cant your tutorial is good but how the hell did you find the charts(cause flight aware has only for USA) and you didnt tell how to read them and find the properly for the flight
Actually when you turn on the battery the instruments don't come up directly, yours did because the IRS was aligned already, but in real world the pilots have to align the IRS if it's not..........
This is by far the best PMDG 747 tutorial I have ever seen on youtube.
Thanks a lot for your time and explanations.
I ran this tutorial in segments in a side window until learned what was what. finally, today, I made the whole trip w/o incident thanks to these vids. You are much better than " Procedures" from Angle of Attack from PMDG! You rock!

Excellent Tutorial. Obviously a 747 Captain. Thank you for making this all understandable.
Thnaks for this. Ive not flown for about 7 years and ive forget everything lol so much to remember.
What a great set of tutorials - end to end and explained so well. Now I am ready to transition from B737 to the big bird.
Out of all the Tutorials out there I find this easy to understand are you a real 747 pilot sir ?
Great video..esp the FMC programming part. Learning to enter each SID/STAR waypoints manually and making fixes to match up to approach charts was a fantastic learning experience. Great tips. Learned quite a lot myself.

You might want to turn on the packs one at time. APUs don't like that kind of initial load ;)
this is the best tutorial i have aver seen!!!! amazing!!! thank you so much?
Thank you! Thanks to you I finally could land my plane!
This is just the best tutorial around. Did you ever do one on starting from cold and dark. You would do a good job of it I am sure.
Amazing video. This is so awesome.
Great plane. High fps and I have a laptop i3! The clearness of it all was amazing, it was all in HD, crystal clear!
@michelarjuna A good way is to install FSCommander on your PC, you will have all SID/STAR and it´s path on a map, easy to visualise and choose the correct one.
That is proper stuff.I feel like sitting in Pilot school and taking FMC lessons!!Excelent unique video
@Kubolineczka What I just do is make an estimate of the runway and when I ask for clearance to land the airport gives me an approach. look at your STAR chart and get then do what you would do if you were planning the flight from your destination.
Not sure how you got to the runway without the engines running.
To bring it up, either press the alt button on your keyboard or right click and then press show menu bar if you don't have it displayed already. Then hover your mouse over instrument panel and then click on panel switcher.
@meloescher You forgot to align the IRS. That's a pretty big step, especially with a cold & dark startup.
@DHMaNiAc770
Google EHAM charts, LIMC charts, etc. You'll usually find them.
you can create flight plan with FMC without SID papers.Just create flight plan then you can enter the waypoints from the plight plan into the FMC
@ThePilotBuddy I had the same probmlem with yaw damps. I followed the check lists to the letter and never got them to work. PMDG has website, you buy and download it there.
How do you get a route on SID paper like that.. ?
Thanks for the tutorials!
make sur u have it facing directly upwards once u done the the procedure
thank you very much for your tutorials now i can operate the fmc.where can i download the popup charts that you are using?
Thanks for your time in making this Tutorial, however, when I open up my EICAS window which appears open as your's, it remain "black". The 10 buttons appear on the upper right, but when I press each of the buttons nothing appears...Have any ideas why this is happening?
Google PMDG and buy it from their website. A few retailers like Best Buy and Fry's actually carry it in the store still.
Nice tutorial.......can you have one made that demonstrates the landing on rwy 17L
the buttons at the top right of screen you click on to bring things up.How do you get that there thank.s Love the tutorials

Thank You!!!! I recognize your voice from the 737 tutorial as well. CHEERS! GOOD JOB.
PMDG came out with the 747 Queen of the Skies 2, Version 3. Have you seen it? Would like you to do a tutorial on it. I appreciated all your work on the original.
@MrStefanbergmann The most common cause for the issue of instruments shutting of is not using a legitimately purchased copy of the product.
If your PMDG747 X is having problems at cruise level, maintaining the required heading, maybe before you load a your PMDG 747X flight, you could try unselecting winds aloft in the Settings Display >Weather section of FSX.
If this works, it may be as had been suggested, winds aloft causing your 747 problems in holding direction,
If it makes no difference then obviously it's not the wind aloft.

IRL, they tell you. Or, just pick the ones that go in the right direction.
I can't get the IRS to work for some reason, it wont have the Primary Flight Display correctly
(1/2)Hello, at first I want to thank meloescher for the great tutorial!

There's something that is just beyond me, how do you know what RWY will you have to land in if you haven't contacted the destination airport's ATC?
@meloescher ok,i found some charts called jeppesen but i like a lot more the charts usen in your tutorial which are called aeronautical group.where did you find them?they are great
Very nice! But still one question. Where do you get the Charts for ground, depature and approache?
how can i download this videos??
its really helpful i can view it anytime i want if i could download
when i start up my battery and stuff my instuments come on then like a min later they go black
very good job:)
Mine always looks like it is always before you align the irs and i am doing it like in everybody elses videos
Meloescher, great tutorial. But I have a big question they prevents me flying.

Does anyone know how to start the TCAS display? doesn't it show traffic? how do you do it?
How do you save a Route that you have manually entered to the FMC?
Flying the 747 was always my dream.... i have FS2004...or maybe getting it reinstalled..cos of an invalled..i dunno it just told me to... but i had the PMDG 747,747 and MD11...the 737 is easy,md11 doesnt work..747 wont let me fly it..i did insert everything into the FMC...(have no joystick) i took off automatically and it just keeps flying up..i press the nav.. and it the FMC tells me it's unavaillable.. any cure?
hello, how do I know at which runway will i land before I begin the flight?
good video ,what key do you use to set the trim on the fsx pmdg 747-400

how do you select the cold and dark state from the FMC?
How do I get the toolbar in the top right corner???
i tried doing a flight from KLAX to YSSY and the same thing happened no matter how much fuel i put in
What you call the PFD is the Navigation Display (ND)
the PFD is left to the ND, Its the blue and orange one.
But nice tutorial.
i just printed em out
btw i already posted this but you can change the approach halfway through flight right?
and when you make the ring around Malpensa 35L how do you get it to do that because nothing happens when I do that

how did you get the departure chart to come up on flightsim
@meloescher could you plz send me the links for charts
where did u get the fmc from i downloaded mine from sim aviation but its different to yours.
U have to run fsx as an adminastrator and it will work
Where is the nav gps button
How close is this to the real thing?
Did you put them back to Nav after you aligned them?
Nice video. Which pmdg 747 version has a cabin, or do all pmdg 747s have cabins? And how is the sound quality? R they recorded from real life?
