    The zvx is an OK driver.. but the vxf is way better. The zvx is not efficient at all, as is has a big coil gap and to much suspension... and that's why it can take more power. Cool video though 👍

    • @fishrrelaxing9361
      @fishrrelaxing9361 6 месяцев назад +1

      That’s cause it’s basically an upgraded evl.. they are built like that for a reason.. they can get loud wo the extra power.. power is the most expensive part.. I’d rather have something a little more efficient and looser that can run on less power. Then I can run more of them cause I don’t have to spend that extra money on more power to them.
      It’s a trade off between tight gap or big gap.. neither is better then the other long as the rest of the piston is designed properly around that.. loser bigger diameter spider, lighter cone for example..
      Spend some time messing around with 8’s and figure out why some are soo much better then others and you’ll have a way better understanding of what makes for a loud speaker..
      And let’s be honest.. there isn’t a sub out there that realistically needs more than 1k watts to function. Impedance rise and all your 12k is only putting out 5.. your 3k only about 1k.
      If we were talking home audio or concerts then power can mater.. the issue is limited space, even more limited when you consider box design around impedance rise depending how you port it and spacing from loading walls..
      Your the very reason we have companies providing inefficient drivers that need huge boxes and tons of power to achieve the same output we used to get 10-15 years ago on 1/10 the power and 120oz mags..
      Got a lot to learn..
      I hit 157’d in an extended cab Tacoma early 2k on 1k and 4 jl w3 15’s sealed box sealed cab off the dash.. in a daily and could do it off music and factory electrical.. back when we used to have 90% of the market making 90+ db sens subs that only needed 350rms and dvc was a rare item.. didn’t have no 30-40 xmax subs either cause on 400w you’d couldn’t get a 120oz magnet to push through the air compression enough to even have xmax matter that much..
      See the issue is tight gap is needed to run more power which is only needed to drive a larger motor which is only needed cause the linear compression upon excursion against compression of air and its resistance back on the cone.. the only reason you need a dvc is to handle more power to power the motor etc..
      And all these companies selling all of you these massive subs that take massive paper.. do so cause they also sell your the amps and the wiring and the batteries and caps.. they sell you one product and make you have to buy Al the more expensive products to actually make it work 😂😂
      I can take a single $200 12 throw it in a half decent prefab at 35-37 put it in any vehicle made that is normal suv size or smaller and get 140+ out of it with a quality name brand old school type 800-1000rms amp any day.. more then enough for any daily driver.. maybe not a 4 door pickup tbh cause getting a proper box in one with seats and all is impossible.. but i can throw in two mid level 8’s and still do it..
      Shit my wife drives the kids around in a traverse with 2 8” skar vd of All things off 600 and is 137 in a car 1.6 net box tuned to 35 that is down fire takes up only 7.5” of her cargo behind the rear seats as a false floor design and can still hall the kids to football practice and throw groceries on top the box.. $65 entry shallow 8”s and a quality high efficiency 800w amp running at 2ohms not 1 or I could fully power them.. but if I did I’d have to upgrade her electrics for more money then everything I put into it so far..

      @@fishrrelaxing9361 First off, I have been building drivers/loudspeakers of all types, mainly woofers, and subwoofers since the early 90's with several manufacturers, so i don't think I need you to tell me, I have a lot to learn. Second, it's not anything like an evl.. period. Not an upgraded version at all. The guys over at China Future Sound (that builds ALL of Kevin's subwoofers) go off of older designs of their drivers, and that's why Kevin has not updated his lineup, nor made any revisions except for on one driver. Skar subwoofers are parts bin drivers.. plain and simple. I know the company/build house very well. Also you said a lot of nothing, for no reason Iol. Tight gap subs.. DO NOT need more power, I have no idea where you got that they need more power.. it's the other way around. Also, higher sensitivity is based on a more compliant suspension overall(softer spiders, softer surround.. cone material and weight) and a coil that fits the gap better, with less distance from the top plate(which is your positive, t- yoke being your negative). Larger gaps and coils that don't fit well, along with an overly stiffer suspension equates into an inefficient driver, but one that will need more power to get the soft parts moving. BL is a combination of (B) which is the flux density in the gap, and (L) which is the LE, or length of wire in the gap... so yes, a coil with greater windings increases the BL, because (B) never changes, while L will change and alter the overall BL. Also, the weight of the motor, has very little to do with performance. Surface area of a motor, is where it gets its overall strength.. not the weight or amount of slugs. The surface area of the ferrite, and the greater saturation of the steel is what matters. Ferrite is stacked, to increase xmech limits(increase the excursion capabilities only not to increase motor force/ strength). That's why the EVL is a piss poor driver, as is the ZVX... overly dampened, large gaps and weaker motor structures.. which is why many of these drivers fail, they reach and exceed their curie points, being so inefficient and needing more power to get increased output. that's as easy as it gets. There aren't many companies that care much about higher sensitivity drivers anymore, just a handful. I used to do oem work for Loyd at MiTek, which is better know for MTX, Xtant and many other brands they produce(which I think his son runs the company, after his recent passing).I did oem for Rochford, got to with with some greats like Dan Wiggins of Adire, old Bob Carver and Thilo Stompler just to name a few. While you made a good point about higher sensitivity drivers needing less power to react to the ac current/signal feeding them... the rest was just a bunch of unrelated rambling. And btw...I work with many 8" drivers. And still do recones and custom work, on the side. But thanks again for the small book. 👍

    • @Chuck_Sanders
      @Chuck_Sanders 6 месяцев назад

      @@fishrrelaxing9361 also, dvc subs and woofers weren't rare, as JL, MTX, Kicker Orion and others had them back in the 90's. And dvc subs do not handle more power than a single voice coil driver...dvc's are for wiring options only.

But the skar zvx subs, would probably hold more wattage than the sundown x pro series sub. The sundown x sub shouldn't cost almost double than the skar vxf/zvx subs. I have yet to have a skar woofer take more then there RMS rating. I have SDR 10's had a DDX 10 but it blow up. Have EVL 10's an zvx-8's. The DDX blow up on 1,100 watt RMS. It's rated for 1,000 RMS. The EVL'S are 1,000 RMS rating. I tried to give them 1,100 RMS but started smoking. The SDR'S are 600 RMS same thing won't take more than RMS. Same with the zvx-8's they are 900 RMS. I'm putting true clean power to them. Other brands woofers take more than there RMS rating all day long. I now have a x-10 v3. That will take much much more than its 2,000 RMS all day long.
