My car tax too was supposed to auto renew, got a letter last week from the DVLA saying it wasn’t taxed. Did it immediately online and then called DVLA because there was back tax to pay and asked why it hadn’t auto renewed, they said because the MOT was ‘due’ to run out (not had run out) and they wouldn’t tax a car without a MOT. My MOT was carried out on time, however the DVLA said they don’t check this afterwards but should have written to me, I didn’t receive any letter so could easily have found myself in the same situation.
I used to park behind my flat, It was in a car park for the shops loading in and other flats in the run of above the shops. 1 day I woke up to find a clamp on my car. they had just 'privatised' the car park. there was a guy clamping other cars too. No warning had been given that the car park was going to start charging. I explained this to the clamper, had no idea the car park was going to be charging. So i got out my hack saw and started sawing thru the clamp. Clamper called the police, one arrived, very quickly, and said to the clamper it's not criminal damage until I had cut right thru the clamp. Spluttering clamper removed the damaged clamp. I told him I would just cut it off if I was ever clamped again. I parked there for free for the next 6 months.

Joseph Merrick ... maybe the, "see you next Tuesday" bit applies to you sunshine. I suggest you do a bit of research before making a fool of yourself. The site to look at is this one ... www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-direct-debit/renewing where it states .... "Renewing your vehicle tax ." "Your vehicle tax will renew automatically when it’s due to run out. You’ll get an email or letter telling you when your Direct Debit payments will be taken." "You will not be sent a vehicle tax reminder letter (V11). Do not tax your vehicle again. If you do, you’ll be charged twice."

nothing to feel guilty for re not paying your tax. a similar thing happened to me 3 years ago, taxed it on-line with the promise of auto-renew every year. 13 months later got a letter from DVLA saying i had been fined £60 for neither renewing or declaring a sorn. i checked back and found that indeed my tax had not been taken from my account the previous month. i re-taxed it straight away, it had been parked on the road and driven over the course of the untaxed period so i guess i was lucky. wrote back disputing the fine as i had complied with all of their conditions and it was therefore their fault for not collecting the tax as stated they would. two weeks later got a letter back saying that " under the circumstances, no further action will be taken"

Rog5446 Becauae by law the car needs to be taxed or SORNed, when not taxed you need to register the car as being parked up of road and where. If the car had a SORN showing the address of this private car park, then he'd be legal.
@@Coppertunes Not so, I have a car that was not insured and kept off road in my court yard. You NEED to press charges against these people. I see this sort of thing all the time in the security industry, and with the police being so underfunded/understaffed, often examples like this, and even ones with actual violence, simply get ignored by the police or at least not chased. They simply don't have the time or resources to deal with everything. The result? People like this start to realise they can do/say anything they like with zero consequences. You should ALWAYS press charges if you're able to do so, it's literally the only way they will learn to change their behaviour, and you'll be helping to solve some future dispute/arguement before its even caused by the individual in question.

So morale of the story, if your car gets clamped, tax that shit real quick before they put it on the system.
Your car does not need to be taxed to be parked on private land, he was trespassing, your car was clamped illegally. Doesn't matter whether you taxed it before his clamp or not, he can only clamp your car if it's on a public highway. Nice of him to give you heads up though that your tax hadn't renewed ;-)
Not true. It can be clamped in carparks, and at the registered address- which is where it was, and is how the clamper found it.
I’m glad somebody like you is working in a youth prison that kind of calmness and reason you have is just what those kids need.. a lot of people like you in positions of authority are power hungry ... as a man that grew up in care I’m telling you you are ah asset and I wish you was looking after me rather than the people that just called me a “little shit” as a kid
It shows the level of immaturity amongst 'so called' adults today! Give somebody a hat and a clipboard...……..
little hitlers
You've been too nice....He needs training in how to deal with the public
i would press charges, it was also illegal for him to clamp it as its on private property
Wrong. If a car is not taxed or declared SORN, the DVLA will have it clamped as they are a government department.
If the owner of the car park gives dvla permission they can enter the private land and clamp
PhilOffHisTree Why do people comment on matters they evidently know little about? The DVLA can enter private car parks and clamp/fine you, end of.
@@bearing40000 The DVLA CANNOT enter private car parks and clamp/fine you. The DVLA is in Swansea. The employees work in a stuffy office in Swansea! They contract other companies to private clamping services! Why does Joseph comment about mattes he knows nothing about?
is it not freedom of speech??
My car tax too was supposed to auto renew, got a letter last week from the DVLA saying it wasn’t taxed. Did it immediately online and then called DVLA because there was back tax to pay and asked why it hadn’t auto renewed, they said because the MOT was ‘due’ to run out (not had run out) and they wouldn’t tax a car without a MOT. My MOT was carried out on time, however the DVLA said they don’t check this afterwards but should have written to me, I didn’t receive any letter so could easily have found myself in the same situation.
Nice to see a clamper taking defeat with good grace....Nothing less than I would expect from these productive members of society
.
Pity Dom,working on commission, for yet another pond life dredging 'financial' company.
Give a person a position to clamp he'll think he's the most powerful person in the world.
.
Shrewsbury Prison is actually a really interesting tour.
Dominic is missing out by refusing free tickets.
‘I wasn’t trying to be difficult or awkward’ (promptly blocks DVLA representatives vehicle in). Well done guy, you beat the system even though you were in the wrong by not making sure your car had RFL but as always there will be another side to this story that the other chap will be unable to present. To be honest, after watching the video I can half understand why he called you a ‘see you next Tuesday’.
Joseph Merrick ... maybe the, "see you next Tuesday" bit applies to you sunshine.
I suggest you do a bit of research before making a fool of yourself. The site to look at is this one ... www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-direct-debit/renewing
where it states ....
"Renewing your vehicle tax
."
"Your vehicle tax will renew automatically when it’s due to run out.
You’ll get an email or letter telling you when your Direct Debit payments will be taken."
"You will not be sent a vehicle tax reminder letter (V11).
Do not tax your vehicle again. If you do, you’ll be charged twice."
There's a lot of waffle in this. I'm struggling to sort the waffle from the bullshit.
It’s only because you diminished his sense of authority. Played him at his own game 😂
Very calm and collected, wish the whole scene was filmed. Ex military?
the clamper sounds like the kind of person that loves his tiny bit of power and likes to get the last word.....and when that was denied him he didnt like it one bit
nothing to feel guilty for re not paying your tax. a similar thing happened to me 3 years ago, taxed it on-line with the promise of auto-renew every year.
He was lucky to get a reasonable human being...Let's hope he learnt some compassion.
I doubt he would of learned from that episode, he sounds like the sort of bloke who usually gets enjoyment from clamping people but on this occasion he lost!!
@@markplenty2631 There's not much of a way to help a person with a chip on their shoulder ... it's been with them for years and will likely remain for good ... hence his seeking out such a job along with acting in the way he did in this situation.
We need parking enforcement officers for example ... we need people who ensure that the purchase of road tax is made every year and I'm sure there are many people in these unpopular but necessary positions who are fair. This bloke seemed to want to "win" at all costs. His crude reaction as he drove away said everything about him.
He needs to be fired and perhaps get a job where he doesn't interact with the public. Surely, if his employers watch this video they'll do the right thing and get rid of him.
Moral of this story, make sure you tax your car
I think you missed the point of the automatic renewal. Why is it up to us to check that their system hasn’t failed? Stupid comment.
FL34747 Well actually it’s a very sensible comment, you can’t live your life expecting others to do everything for you, unless you’re a child then that’s fair enough.
Well you obviously expected your network to be working when you made this comment, so why is an automated IT-based taxation system any different? @@philipeflop9943
FL34747 I knew it was going to work because I checked the payment for my internet had come out of my bank account. Should always check you’ve paid for services you’ve used otherwise you could get a situation like the guy in the video did.
Congratulations, you are a faithful little servant aren't you? I was referring to network outages, not whether you'd paid for them or not. @@philipeflop9943
How can the DVLA clamp a car for not being taxed, if it's parked on private ground, off of Her Majesty's highway?
The police were called because they would not let Dom out until he paid the car parking charge, so why did the police attend, as this was a civil matter, not a criminal matter?
Rog5446 Becauae by law the car needs to be taxed or SORNed, when not taxed you need to register the car as being parked up of road and where. If the car had a SORN showing the address of this private car park, then he'd be legal.
@@Coppertunes
Not so, I have a car that was not insured and kept off road in my court yard.
I had a letter from the DVLA saying that according to their information, it was not insured and they instructed me, that if the car was not being used I should SORN it, which I could do online.
When I registered it SORN, they did not enquire as to where it was being kept and I duly received a cheque from the DVLA for the residual of the tax.
@@Rog5446 When you register it as SORN it is implied it is at the registered address, unless stated otherwise.

Nice pun at the end “Dominic come on one of our escape events”, priceless
I can never quite understand how people like this clamper ... and many people who have some "power", however temporary it may be... take it all so personally. It seems people like this have some kind of complex.
The police should have charged him anyway since he shouted in public.
Definitely should have charged him.
What a bizarre story Joel, excellent delivery, I was engrosed. Well done for keeping your cool throught the silly episode. What is the world coming to.
Nice story but you certainly spun it out ........ should have cracked that in 3 to 4 mins .... a bit like the time it took the system to register the clamping when you had just taxed it !
Hugh Stacey one of the best comments yet, but yes I probably could have got this down to a few mins
Good work and well done for keeping your cool 😎
Surly you don't need to be taxed on private ground , a fine for not going SORN may be applicable but clamping on private ground seams illegal to me ?
You need the permission of the land owner.
@@TheGreatPower365 No you don't.
Mr Clamper ain't getting no commission today. DVLA tax enforcement is run under tender by a private company called NSL who do pay their operatives by commission 😃🤣😂

@@joelsebcampbell Just proves you don't need to climb cranes or have crazy cats to make really watchable videos. I got a speeding 'warning' from the DVLA a while back (This would be held for 1 year by the Police and a fine issued if there was a second complaint from the group).
Apparently my car was spotted 35 miles from my actual location doing 37 MPH in a 30 zone by a member of the 'Community Speed Enforcement Group" with a speed gun - After providing indisputable evidence that this was not my vehicle they admitted their "volunteer" had incorrectly read the licence plate. - Real Professional!!
Ultimate Hack!! I will not forget this one cheers for the info!
Exactly what I thought I never pay my car tax
I,ve never heard of automatic road tax renewal .... even my car that is tax free has to be renewed on the system.
You can set it up to renew automatically on the DVLA web-site.
I like you man. your a very together and nice bloke. Just shows what angry people work for the DVLA

id just go get my friend,, angle grinder. he loves clamps
And then get arrested for criminal damage... clearly your not the fizziest drink in the fridge are you...
@ They would need evidence to make an arrest though.
Evidence of what? Bits of metal damages on floor, they cant prove shit once car was taxed before clamp and it be the knob head with the clamp that refuses to check system properly who would have to pay the damages in expenses of the clamp once our angle grinder have served it duty. Works out either way in end, that Mr knob head is the only real c#*t leaving the car park!
Depending on the clamp. You can lift car take wheel off, or take apart some of the suspension assembly. Then just let clamp fall off.
Padlock the clamp to a post then charge them a removal fee.
Kyle Fpv nope you would instantly have a criminal damage claim that would stick please think before action!
I respect how level headed you are, you should of pressed charges to teach him a lesson you did nothing wrong at all
Josh I was hoping he would learn by taking the high road. Who knows maybe he learnt maybe he didn’t, but I didn’t think possibly getting him fired would have a benefit to anyone 🙂
Yes he did. He failed to pay his road tax, but continued to drive on public roads. If he pressed charges (whatever that means) he would risk being fined for the offence he commited, it would be easy enough to prove.
@@barlow2976 no the car was on private land
I was same thought I was taxed automatically and was not. System has gone pear shaped since they don't send remainders in the post anymore.
