- A terrifying subway shove during the evening commute this week was captured on video and police say the victim is lucky to be alive.
Exclusive video shows the suspect approach her victim and then violently push the woman right into an oncoming train.
The unprovoked assault was captured by police body-worn cameras at the Lexington Avenue/59th Street station.
Two officers were standing on the platform where it happened just after 5:30 Tuesday night. They jumped into action and arrested the suspect right away.

Here in Japan, like in South Korea and Hong Kong, we have glass barriers that only open once the train arrives.
Why does NYC not consider doing that?
@DanteOokami I think in some places in the US has that. But for it to be feasible. They're not seen as cost effective as they're expensive, especially when a rail system has multiple types of vehicles that have different door positioning.
They also require trains to stop consistently, within a small section on the platform, which not all systems are designed to do.

Stop victim blaming her! Instead of blaming her for standing too close to edge, maybe blame the criminal trying to push her off? I dunno, bit of a wild guess.
Nobody’s victim blaming she should not of been standing close to the edge and it’s less victim blaming more telling other people how to prevent situations like this
its not the victims fault however even so she almost died and if she had died it wouldnt matter who is right or wrong because she would be dead, so hopefully she can take a lesson out of this and not stand too close to the subway rails so it cant happen again

Your statement hence definitely does not apply in this case.
The question is why? I don't understand the thought process behind pushing a random stranger into a moving train
Crazy impulsive thoughts.
In NYC the courts are likely to say, "No death, no crime. You're free to go."
People need to learn that with all the crazies out there, they should stand a good distance back from the edge of the platform. I've seen this too many times. Even school kids fooling around on the platform pretending to shove their friends in front of a train. Now that train crew has to go through a whole process because of this nonsense. Stay back till the train is in the station moving slowly or stopped.
Yes you are right I'm from Chicago where they kill for sports I see NY like to attack people on trains and kill them.its crazy when you have sick people out here in this world like this that taking a life for no reason means nothing to them.
She probably felt safe because she was standing in front of one of the pillars. 0:20
Well, we can see how safe she was. It's better to stand where someone cannot get behind you without being seen. Also, I have seen people fall in front of trains on their own, collapsing from health issues, excessive heat or intoxication. I operated NYC subway trains for 27 years, I know it is better to stand way back from the edge, preferably with your back against a wall or some other fixed object. It's not like you will miss your train being 15' back from the edge.
@@PaulPavloPablo your never safe. Don't stand by the edge too long and be aware who's around you
Not everyone is from the city so it's unreasonable to expect everyone to know what could happen. Some of the past victims were immigrants, tourists or non-natives. The MTA, City and State has a responsibility to protect the wellbeing of its passengers. Other countries have already implemented barriers to prevent suicides and these despicable crimes so there's no excuse for the city to ignore this.

@@pedicabfilms8791 I can imagine the fare hike that would be involved if the mta decided to do that. I seriously do not understand why we dont adapt the Hong Kong Metro glass wall infront of the train entrances. It completely eliminates that exact possibility. So glad that women is alright
Hong Kong is such a marvel of a city, it really does do so many things right.
There are a few potential reasons I can think of:
1) Cost
2) Implementation on existing structures
3) The modifications required for trains.
In London on the Tube, I’ve seen the concept implemented on the newer ‘Jubilee Extension Line’ but IiRC implementing it on an extension for a different Line has to be delayed because the current rolling stock doesn’t support it, although the stations have the framework in place.
I wouldn’t be surprised if these are only implemented on the Subway if either there’s a major renovation project or worse the cost of life becomes too great.
Yea Singapore has it too, really wish this barrier was more common
Welcome to America where they can't even put a suicide barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge.
Those are all new cities compared to NYC. The cost to implement all that great fancy stuff is too great. I've been on the train in Singapore. It's a beauty

It's right, there's no good reason to stand close to the tracks or even near the yellow safety line. It's not like you're actually saving time by standing closer, the train isn't going to set off any faster once you're on it. Don't put yourself in or even near harms way. Whenever I'm waiting for a train I'm usually sitting on a bench or leaning back on a wall or pillar nowhere near the track but constantly watching for the train and people watching, i like to see myself as a kind of unofficial lifeguard just in case there's any kids or drunkards going to near the edge of the platform or bothering anyone. Long story short my uncle is a train driver and he's seen people get hit up close and it was highly traumatic for him because there's literally no fast way to stop those things and it's a mess. I'd pull someone up off the tracks but i don't have any family or kids to look after, I wouldn't recommend doing it to anyone else but seriously folks don't go near the track or close to the edge of a fast flowing river or anything where your gut says maybe that's too close, trust that instinct because you might just be saving 2 lives, yourself and the poor guy like me who jumps in after you trying to pull you out to the side. Also if you see someone acting strange near a railway line report it immediately and keep an eye on them, if they're depressed and planning suicide you can talk to them but report it first and do not get too close to them if they are near anything dangerous, you don't want to get pulled in or over with them. This is why you never stand close to the railroad tracks. It’s literally an instinctual thing you do especially in cities like New York and really what everyone should do.
