Actually there were MANY fare jumpers shown. The 3 out of 3 ARRESTED had bench warrants, hence the arrest. No others are arrested as it is just a fine now.

Of course they do nothing. It’s not the cops fault. If a cop approaches a suspect, and the suspect escalates the situation, and that leads to him being hurt or k**led, the entire justice system will come down on and crush that officer. We’ve seen it time and time again.
The risk to an officer for doing his job now is unfathomable. It’s not worth the loss of their freedom, family, and future pension.

Broken windows was ex-NYPD commissioner William Bratton’s theory. Even NYC’s initial sanctuary laws passed by Koch, were recertified by both Dinkins & Guiliani. But the main law is from 2014 passed by NY City Council and Bill DiBlasio.

Just like what happened with David Dinkins and Rudy Guiliani. Dinkins put many things into action like the hiring of thousands of new cops, financed with a special sales tax he pressured the NY City Council to pass. By the time all the cadets graduated out the police academy, he was out of office and they benefited the Guiliani Administration.
Plus, the 1994 Crime Bill gave lots of money to cities dealing with violent drug trafficking organizations like NYC. Nevermind, the economy started to rebound in the mid-90s due to the tech boom starting. Crime always falls in good economies. Guiliani benefited from quite a few things, he had nothing to do with. Mr Law and Order is now a criminal himself. So while they focus on Fani Willis (who I really really don’t like), remember Guiliani is now a convicted criminal. As a former DA, he knew the law and broke it anyway.

When we become the only city doing random searches on public transportation by the national guard despite crime being at 50 year lows. I used to live in this city when gun fights would literally break out nightly and Italians were killing each other with car bombs. But back then we didn't have a 24 hour news cycle putting fear in the minds of the impressionable.

I’m a frequent rider and on dense travel weeks, I use unlimited passes to have easy ability to make numerous out of system transfers but I’m paying for the special pass instead of each individual swipe.

now the police will often not file the police report, they will just say they will look into it and talk to you a bit and send you on your way. so crime is down because of under reporting. Same with shoplifting, drug abuse, homeless camps, just turn and look the other way and crime has reduced

As a fellow bus operator in Staten Island, I’d wish they would patrol our buses! It’s ridiculous, almost nobody pays and then if I ask them for the fare they’d get violent ! What happened to being respectful and following rules?

Thing is if that's the case you have to speak to everybody that walks on the bus without paying. I got called out a few days ago for trying to catch the bus. Mind you I was I don't like hopping the bus if I can pay I will pay but I got on and before I can even say anything to the bus driver while some Spanish white lady got on the bus he immediately was like no free rides even though the lady just walked on the bus. So I immediately took offense to it because he didn't even say anything to the lady and she didn't even pay her fare. Meanwhile I'm not a violent guy but I will stand up for myself

You have a very valid point. As a subway buff, I think that fare evasion is more prevalent on the buses than on rapid transit. There is lots of fare evasion that happens in Brooklyn. Two months ago, when I rode the SBS44, I had my fare ticket on hand, but saw no fare investigator aboard the bus. I know at least 3 lines that catch lots of fare evasion. Today, people are not like you and me anymore. They have changed to head to become worse as never before.

A civil "summons" is issued instead of an arrest. That should deter them.

I work in queens and manhattan. There are seldom any cops around and all I see all day long are immigrants and tourists farebeating! As a tax payer and law abiding citizen I’m disgusted! Take a look at grand central station near the shuttle (immigrants), Times Square (tourists), and 33rd street at the 7 line in queens (immigrants). It’s a slap in the face to those of us that pay!
And can you imagine, people actually want the transit system to be free! LMAO, can you imagine the amount of crime & homeless people sleeping on the trains if the system was fare-free.....it's already more than bad enough.

I was on about 4 subways yesterday and saw no police.anywhere. however, I did see about 6 people who jumped the turnstiles.
I am not fan of NYPD but they do be at certain stations regularly. I thought i would never say this but, they aren't enough cops to patrol every station and train car.
Supposedly the National Guard is going to help them so that is going to be interesting.

A few years ago they announced they would stop prosecuting fare evasion. There is transparencey and there are times to keep your mouth shut. They opened the door for this. What did they think would happen.

This is only for show. Just three days ago I was in Harlem 125th Street and I watched 10... people jump the turn style and go through the emergency exit in a matter of 90 seconds all in front of four officers standing around talking. No one checked anything.
My pop once told me, "son, the guy who's gonna mug you on the train, probably wont be paying their fare". That's why Giuliani was so successful in fighting crime.

Nah, you can have pepper spray. They want you defenseless when a would be attack strikes. Which is why i feel criminals prey on law abiding citizens because they know they are unarmed.... If they change the laws i bet my next non existent stimulus check that the crime would fall because now the armed criminals and armed law abiding citizens are on equal playing field.
The whole system is bogus. Cops can't be everywhere not to mention policing is reactive not proactive.... so law abiding citizens should be able to arm themselves as a proactive solution.
BART needs the same operations. On my last ride on BART last Dec., when I was exiting the Daly City station, I was the only paying riders out of the 3 exiting at exactly the same time. Two others just jumped over the fare gate. Am I a fool for paying?
Even on the buses they don’t pay fares, both the young and the older; when the bus stops, they enter through the back door, so there should be a police officer on each bus and at every turnstile.
I'll never understand why some people want to bring heat on themselves.

I've been saying this for years. A lot of people who do major crimes, think minor infractions are absolutely nothing. A lot of major cities have let up on minor infractions, in hopes of having more Officers available for larger issues. They'd find that dealing with something a small as a Red Light runner, might be more proactive than they think.
At 149 and 3rd the cops just watch them stroll in through the exit doors. You can film a Dateline episode solely on the history and present of that subway station and its characters.

It is. You just have to buy it from within NY and purchase it from either a licensed pharmacist or a weapons dealer/police supply store.
