Her contentment with being reincarnated as a microscopic organism showed how good-hearted she was. Rest in peace
When she said "I wonder what it will be like, to fall asleep and never wake up" that was heart breaking
@@lwdrd agreed
@@lwdrd Yeah, I alsp realy like how they wrote her character as an sentient being capable of thinking about their mortality while also not makig her "super smart alien" type of character, she is simply an sea creature with human-like level of sapience and an absoulutley beautyful soul, I havent cried for anyone for a long time, especialy for fictional characters, but Sea Emperor always pulls on my hearth strings 🥺
Imagine being reincarnated as a New Yorker. Sends chills down my spine just thinking about it
@@Poopshit420 She's a leviathan, not a monster. 😟
“I am...what you seek....want to...help yo-“ “IM COMIN’ MAMA!” “What-“
Exactly lol
Initially, I wasn't really sure about the Sea Emperor's voice. I felt it sounded too human and kindly. But then I realized that's kind of the point. As scary and otherwordly as she looks to us, she isn't some kind of monster. She's a sentient being like us, with thoughts and hopes and fears. And Lani Minella's performance really hits that home.
I still remember the first time I ever got a message from her, I actually started crying out of shock because I was like holy shit I thought I was safe in my base but my single safe space was invaded... took me a good moment to recover haha
After that I noticed my beloved hoverfish were starting to show the spots of Kharaa all over and I got upset so I worked up the courage to start wandering further because I had originally been too nervous to even go to the Aurora, let alone anywhere else, but seeing my hoverfish like that made me upset. I ended up just telling myself "fear is temporary" a lot along the way to get some courage to go find her, I called her Mother and when I had to swim back to the surface I placed a beacon at her location named "Mother" and another one at the entrance of the cave system called "Mother Entrance" haha. I did get a bit attached to her and referred to her as Mother for the remainder of the game, the final message you get in the Neptune will always be my favorite.
Ok this is actually extremely wholesome, and I think it's super sweet and brave of you that your love for your hoverfish was so strong, so powerful that you conquered your crippling fear of what lies in the ocean, solely to go heal their sickness. I know it's only a game, but if your heart can be that strong in reality as it was here, then you've already beaten a lot of us in life, and you're much stronger than you might know.
You should be proud of yourself, because I know I am, good on you!
Its kind of a nice touch that the closer you get, the leviathan's telepathic messages get through faster, and the words are closer together / more fluid.

What’s really sad is that she lived far beyond her original life expectancy waiting for a chance to play with her young

It's sad that she was alive around thousand years for someone to come and save her babies. Now that you hatch them, she knows this will be the last time she see them and she was grateful that you helped her.
R.i.p Sea emperor, you'll be miss among the sea and stars.
*thousands- She was already old when the precursors got to 4546b
Horror_game_Fan 13 why wouldn’t they hatch the whole time?
Horror_game_Fan 13 and why did she die?
@@tsuyuasui7297 She was old and the last of her kind. She was waiting for someone to hatch the eggs all those years.
RIP
I love how completely this entity subverts expectations. She's the most powerful creature in the game by far, yet her kindly disposition makes her utterly harmless. She's kind of an anti-final boss.
And the fact that the Peepers are the reason why there's still life on 4546B (before the cure is spread). A small creature, that probably no one would thought to have a job that big. This game will always amaze me.
@@localcultist wait, what exactly did the Peepers do?
@@anrper6095 The Peepers are responsible for distributing the enzyme 42 produced by her to the rest of the crater, helping stave off the infection for a while and thus are responsible for why the ecosystem of the crater didn't fully succumb tothe infection up until now (and it can be assumed they continue to do so with the enzymes produced by the hatchlings). You can even find some Peepers leaving behind trails of it in the game and scan them to gain this information (along with a lot of foreshadowing from various scan logs and PDA dialogues relating to Peepers and other stuff), plus youcan use those Peepers to cure infected creatures around the crater by letting carnivores eat them or - if not dealing with a carnivore or if you just don't want to kill the adorable Peeper - just leaving them in the vicinity of an infected creature, they will purposefully try to give the enzymetotheinfected creature - enough enzyme from enough Peepers and the creature will be cured, at least according to some research on the wiki and Reddit.
@@hrd5415
really? u can actually use these peepers to cure sick creatures?? does anyone have a video showing that???
@@hrd5415 Just to clarify the enzyme's from the Sea Emperor were breaking down so they were no longer becoming effective at combatting the infection, by the time you crash on the planet because of the gun the enzyme's being distributed by the Peepers wouldn't be able to fully cure any infected animals only suppress the symptoms for a while mean that if the Sea Emperor died before the eggs were hatched then 4546B would have been doomed as all life would have eventually died off and because of the containment gun still being active any ships that flew too close would have just added to the planet's death toll.
For those crying right now. Go to your nearest ocean. She’ll be there

Sea emperors ma girl
as someone who doesn't play, only watch, it is very interesting
You should get it it’s very fun
ikr
What I really love about this is that what ultimately lead to the defeat of the Kaara bacterium is human empathy.
Think about it, the only reason the Sea Emperor surendered the hatching enzymes is because she trusted that you'd let her children outside, other than the architects, who ignored her pleads.
They didn't see her as a sentient being. They saw her as a tool to get what they need to reach their goals.
In Below Zero we learn that this alien civilisation acts and thinks as a hive mind.
That's what separates us from them. We have the ability to see ourselfs in others and show feelings of empathy.
I think the architects just couldn't hear her
Power of friendship
don't blame them though. they weren't going to let their only test subjects and hope for the cure just run amok, they had no opportunities to try again and so they had to contain it.
the architects could not hear her due to thier bodies being replaced with machine bodies rather than organic
I don’t get why people always take that “they couldn’t hear me” so selectively literal, even people like the Degasi survivors had visions from her yet they could not hear her messages either, the only one remotely close was the son.
I don’t think it has anything to do with them being part robotic, I just think that they simply ignored her pleas because they were forcing nature to their bidding, killing one of her offspring in their experiments, expecting her to give in the rest of their young to fix the disease THEY brought into the planet they where exploiting, and in the case of failure they where willing to destroy the entire planet and when that didn’t work they put the darned space gun to blast off anyone that came near the planet, without any obvious warning to prevent needless deaths
For all means and purposes, the Architects are the villains of the story.
Her voice is so soothing and calm. It breaks my heart that I never played this game, because I probably would have gotten attached to her. It looks terrifying at some points, but overall it really is a masterpiece.
I couldn’t have described it better myself. It’s terrifying, and I was so scared, but I had such a good time, haha! I’d recommend giving it a go…I think it’s worth it, even with all the sadness.

but her moment of passing away was sad as hell, almost shed a tear seeing her just laying down there
" After its eggs are hatched, the captive Sea Emperor Leviathan will play with its children and then direct them to the Arch leading just outside the Quarantine Enforcement Platform which they will leave through. The captive will begin dying shortly afterward, as it has used *the last of its strength to play with its babies.* "
I think that playing was also something far deeper. She is telepathic, so perhaps by playing with them she also imparted all the knowledge and wisdom of their species before passing on. This would give the babies a better chance at survival since now they have hundred if not thousands of years of experience to draw on mentally.
Ok, that’s flipping adorable
IM NOT CRYING YOURE CRYING
FUUCKKK
I’m gonna cryyyy
"I will give to you freely, what others tried in vain, to take" hits really hard because youve been seeing the aftermath of what happened and reading about how much they tried
It ties in beautifully with LOTR lore.
Galadriel had always been fair...and an elf (who was supposed to be the best of their kind) came to her three times demanding a lock of hair but, sensing his nature, she refused him as unworthy.
Then Gimli comes along...a dwarf, who's race had been waring with the elves and so different from them. He is absolutely smitten with her and she can feel his truly good nature...so, when the party leaves and she turns to him to ask what gift he would have of her he simply and tenderly asks for a lock of her hair and she gives him 3, one each to symbolize the 3 times the unworthy elf had asked.
Legolas knew this and even in the film can be see beaming at his short friend for his worthiness.
something that personally added to my expirience in this game was that when i first played it i didnn't know vey good english, and so there were quotes like this that i was analysing as if it's something deep and philoshophical, while what it actually means is very simple
For a planet so terrifying.
The hardest part was leaving
Ironic isn't it, how something so dangerous or frightening can yet be so beautiful.
Even with the gun deactivated we still have the g.d.s (global defense shield)to find and deactivate for good but besides that we are in the clear
Michael Brown why was the hardest part leaving...
Well 3 things
1. The gun
2. The materials to make a rocket are scarce
3.the shield somehow active on the planet even to we escaped before
@@evmoore22 the GDS is only added in Subnautica Below Zero. But here we're not talking about the technical side of things, not about the GDS, not the material collecting, not the Gun. It's about the attachment we created with the planet that makes it hard to leave.

Now, this might be a coincidence, but the cure is labeled Enzyme 42, and in a book about alien worlds and travelling the Galaxy, two aliens ask a supercomputer what the meaning of life is.
It's answer? 42.
I think it's an intentional reference.
@@ordoreductor983 there's some other similarities to that same book and Subnautica, such as a line in the book stating you can "Travel the Galaxy for less than thirty Alterrian dollars a day"

@@MausOfTheHouse I think it’s “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams
Their final scenes made me cry. The themes of the symbiosis of nature- you helping them hatch their eggs, which helps you leave the planet- were so good. Opposites in a good way, different in a good way. It’s so profound and powerful for this game, never expected it.
"We are different, but we go together"
I'm glad she was able to die in peace, knowing her babies were able to be free. She was finally able to make a friend, finally able to 'play' and with her children -- it's just sad she had to die. I think it would have been nice if the game gave you an interact button for her, to pet her mandible as a final goodbye and "thank you".
"My young are swimming for the shallows"
You mean the mountain biome, with a reaper?
Considering she lives like... 1700 feet deep or something, that area is pretty shallow I suppose, especially for something that big
Plus this is a theory but I think sea emperor's are able to calm down aggressive animals so they aren't attacked.
7 reapers?
also, sea emperors just ignore reapers because they can't do harm to them

It's my favorite line in any game I've ever played.
This was such a hard part in the game to witness... a beautiful creature such as the Sea Emperor die after not being able to live.
