It ties in beautifully with LOTR lore. Galadriel had always been fair...and an elf (who was supposed to be the best of their kind) came to her three times demanding a lock of hair but, sensing his nature, she refused him as unworthy. Then Gimli comes along...a dwarf, who's race had been waring with the elves and so different from them. He is absolutely smitten with her and she can feel his truly good nature...so, when the party leaves and she turns to him to ask what gift he would have of her he simply and tenderly asks for a lock of her hair and she gives him 3, one each to symbolize the 3 times the unworthy elf had asked. Legolas knew this and even in the film can be see beaming at his short friend for his worthiness.

What I really love about this is that what ultimately lead to the defeat of the Kaara bacterium is human empathy. Think about it, the only reason the Sea Emperor surendered the hatching enzymes is because she trusted that you'd let her children outside, other than the architects, who ignored her pleads. They didn't see her as a sentient being. They saw her as a tool to get what they need to reach their goals. In Below Zero we learn that this alien civilisation acts and thinks as a hive mind. don't blame them though. they weren't going to let their only test subjects and hope for the cure just run amok, they had no opportunities to try again and so they had to contain it.
I don’t get why people always take that “they couldn’t hear me” so selectively literal, even people like the Degasi survivors had visions from her yet they could not hear her messages either, the only one remotely close was the son. I don’t think it has anything to do with them being part robotic, I just think that they simply ignored her pleas because they were forcing nature to their bidding, killing one of her offspring in their experiments, expecting her to give in the rest of their young to fix the disease THEY brought into the planet they where exploiting, and in the case of failure they where willing to destroy the entire planet and when that didn’t work they put the darned space gun to blast off anyone that came near the planet, without any obvious warning to prevent needless deaths For all means and purposes, the Architects are the villains of the story.

just in general little side comments would have been so neat, but I understand them not doing that cause there's a fine line between endearing charm to cosmic magesty and it suddenly ruining the majestic vibe. I just really like the easteregg dialogues like the cyclops dad joke
Initially, I wasn't really sure about the Sea Emperor's voice. I felt it sounded too human and kindly. But then I realized that's kind of the point. As scary and otherwordly as she looks to us, she isn't some kind of monster. She's a sentient being like us, with thoughts and hopes and fears. And Lani Minella's performance really hits that home.
This was such a hard part in the game to witness... a beautiful creature such as the Sea Emperor die after not being able to live. Years before this part happened, her life was just that facility, being used as a breeder and a lab rat and all she gets is death afterwards. It’s not fair to such an innocent and important creature. I wish we could’ve had more time with her 😖
I still remember the first time I ever got a message from her, I actually started crying out of shock because I was like holy shit I thought I was safe in my base but my single safe space was invaded... took me a good moment to recover haha After that I noticed my beloved hoverfish were starting to show the spots of Kharaa all over and I got upset so I worked up the courage to start wandering further because I had originally been too nervous to even go to the Aurora, let alone anywhere else, but seeing my hoverfish like that made me upset. I ended up just telling myself "fear is temporary" a lot along the way to get some courage to go find her, I called her Mother and when I had to swim back to the surface I placed a beacon at her location named "Mother" and another one at the entrance of the cave system called "Mother Entrance" haha. I did get a bit attached to her and referred to her as Mother for the remainder of the game, the final message you get in the Neptune will always be my favorite.
Ok this is actually extremely wholesome, and I think it's super sweet and brave of you that your love for your hoverfish was so strong, so powerful that you conquered your crippling fear of what lies in the ocean, solely to go heal their sickness. I know it's only a game, but if your heart can be that strong in reality as it was here, then you've already beaten a lot of us in life, and you're much stronger than you might know. You should be proud of yourself, because I know I am, good on you!

7:37 There was one part that scared me about this location and the juveniles being here. There's a Reaper nearby. And the first thing that went through my head, when I was freshly grieving the inevitable fate of their mother was this. They're in danger. And after all this time, all this work that was put into freeing her young, after thousands of years in confinement and finally fulfilling her only wish, releasing the only cure to this destructive pathogen only to see a Reaper devour the juveniles. The only hope for the entire planet. Gone, to an apex predator. And as much as I fear Reapers, that thought alone scared me more. That it could all be for nothing.
I had the same thought, the next thought was, "I'll be damned if I'm going to let that happen." and, with stasis rifle in one hand, a knife in the other and my trusty prawn suit with drill and hook, I hunted down the reapers nearest to the portal, and made damn sure those little emperors had a chance at life. As peaceful as she was, I hope their mother forgave me for that slaughter.
This video straight up helped me write a horror story, and I wouldn't have been able to describe stuff in detail without seeing these scenes. You are a certified legend for compiling these!

First time i got this messages I thought it was the warpers more when it said “Come here, to me” and when the sentence finished a warper was outside the alien thing
I first had this vision when I was facing a dark depth so it looked like I stumbled on a giant leviathan so I started stirring away like crazy only to realize it's a vision.
I exclusively referred to her as “ma’am” because I was so scared of her, and I didn’t take the ion cube in her room because I thought she would get mad at me. T-T. I miss her.
Absolutely loved this leviathan. Was prepared to fight her, but ended up helping her. It was sad hearing her say goodbye. Named my rocket Space Emperor after her.
Trailer: Terrifying beast Game: A poor soul who just wanted her young to be free, and it was friendly, surprisingly. It's rare for me to cry, but between this thing's death, and Lee's death in The Walking Dead, those make me cry
I would follow her to the end of the world! Even if she is scary, to me her voice radiates power and she sounds super wise and old I love that about creatures and monsters especially if they want peace and help
Honestly, I was freaking out when she started talking at the Active Lava Zone, with the Dragon right there. Like, my Queen, I love you, but this IS NOT THE _TIME_ -
When I got the first message and I heard the static like sound I thought my headphones were finally out of warranty but when the actual Emperor appeared I was about ready to throw my controller I was so flipping scared 😂
When i saw this, i was heart broken that i cant leave. I dont want to leave her alone. Awesome game though, the most scariest game ever with a very sad ending.
I can only hope this narrative universe has metaphysical planes, because I do hope they two go together. It’s precious really. What the Sea Emperor gave to Ryley saved his life. What Ryley gave to the Sea Emperor made her impossibly long life worth it. To give life to her children and play with them at least once. The little chirps they make are adorable, I hope they grow to be like their parent.
When I got the first message, I had just gotten severely infected from the disease research facility, and I was in my prawn suit hurrying through the lost river. It scared the SHIT out of me. At first, I thought something like a mesmer was stuck to the suit, then I thought i was hallucinating and dying from the khaara virus. It wasn't until the second message that I realised i was being contacted
Honestly I think she's the best part of the game, exploring a unknown, hostile and deadly planet was scary, but encountering something that not only talks but is also friendly... That was a pretty welcomed experience. It was nice to see that.
I remember my first encounter with the sea emperor, I was 100 meters below the sea, at that moment in the game that was by far the most depth distance I was able to swim, I was trying to enter into a space debris but then the sea emperor thought it was a good idea to talk to a pussie guy that has thalassaphobia, my heart stopped for a moment
There wasn't anything better when I went to sleep to skip time and than after waking up, I got the first message and was like: "Oh good morning Martha"
Did you go to the specific alien building before you attempted to deactivate the GUN machine? Because it looks like those are how they register from specific events

I'm glad she was able to die in peace, knowing her babies were able to be free. She was finally able to make a friend, finally able to 'play' and with her children -- it's just sad she had to die. I think it would have been nice if the game gave you an interact button for her, to pet her mandible as a final goodbye and "thank you".

You mean the mountain biome, with a reaper?
Considering she lives like... 1700 feet deep or something, that area is pretty shallow I suppose, especially for something that big
Plus this is a theory but I think sea emperor's are able to calm down aggressive animals so they aren't attacked.
7 reapers?
also, sea emperors just ignore reapers because they can't do harm to them
@Xavier Dapro Leviathans are typically classed by size/whatever and not a relationship in genetics, not sure though.

I really wish there was a rare one that just said "You're getting warmer"
Awwhhhhhhh
just in general little side comments would have been so neat, but I understand them not doing that cause there's a fine line between endearing charm to cosmic magesty and it suddenly ruining the majestic vibe.
I wish we could’ve had more time with her 😖
But at least we did something for her, free her children, that’s what she would’ve wanted.

How do u get messages from her
@@salaarhussain2983 i want to believe it was one of her juvenile filling the spot that her mom leaves. I just want to believe that 😭😭
Same Man
I still remember the first time I ever got a message from her, I actually started crying out of shock because I was like holy shit I thought I was safe in my base but my single safe space was invaded... took me a good moment to recover haha
After that I noticed my beloved hoverfish were starting to show the spots of Kharaa all over and I got upset so I worked up the courage to start wandering further because I had originally been too nervous to even go to the Aurora, let alone anywhere else, but seeing my hoverfish like that made me upset.
Is it me or the sea emperor looks like a aquatic version of mothra

Just means we gotta fire up the Doom Eternal music and start ripping and tearing some reapers
@@rune.theocracy Good thing they don't respawn after being killed :)
They have the ability to make nearby creatures passive! They do that with the bone sharks in the container the sea emperor is held
If they can make bone sharks passive they can make anything passive
I had the same thought, the next thought was, "I'll be damned if I'm going to let that happen." and, with stasis rifle in one hand, a knife in the other and my trusty prawn suit with drill and hook, I hunted down the reapers nearest to the portal, and made damn sure those little emperors had a chance at life.
As peaceful as she was, I hope their mother forgave me for that slaughter.
This video straight up helped me write a horror story, and I wouldn't have been able to describe stuff in detail without seeing these scenes. You are a certified legend for compiling these!

5:00 PURE CUTENESS
And sadness.
The Sea Mom Leviathan is cool and all, but I was exploring the Deep Grand Reef for the first time when I got her first telepathic message so when I saw her eyes and heard the wubwub I actually screamed because I thought it was a warper or something
Me too xD
Same I was absolutely terrified
5:40 that sentence hit me right in the heart
Few games actually make me cry. And this is one of them, along with Ori and the Will of the Wisps
I’m so glad unknown worlds didn’t just make her a boss and you kill her to get the cure but instead made a in-depth character with actual personality
I've always loved the sea emperor leviathan design, and the fact that she makes friends with the player is just better
I can proudly admit that i sobbed when she passed
What is a wave without the ocean?
A beginning without an end?
They are different, but they go together.
Now you go among the stars, and I fall among the sand.
We are different.
But we go... together.
rest in peace sea emperor.
First time i got this messages I thought it was the warpers more when it said “Come here, to me” and when the sentence finished a warper was outside the alien thing
Her messages hit different after finding out she’s not the enemy
Yeah... The "farewell, my friend" scene was powerful
I had the upmost respect for her. She felt like a queen and mother to me. Was a really great experience
The ending actually made me cry, even though it was a terrifying planet the part of leaving it was the sadest
imagine dying in that cage there and she just watches you and says “all that for nothing!”
Trailer: Terrifying beast
Game: A poor soul who just wanted her young to be free, and it was friendly, surprisingly. It's rare for me to cry, but between this thing's death, and Lee's death in The Walking Dead, those make me cry
I would follow her to the end of the world! Even if she is scary, to me her voice radiates power and she sounds super wise and old I love that about creatures and monsters especially if they want peace and help
The moment when the Sea Emperor says farewell friend just makes me wish someone made a mod where you can give her a hug in that moment.
I put a small observatory in the containment room to come visit her once in awhile because the farewell was too sad after my first playthrough.
Why did i read this as “enjoy the sea emperors massage”
Honestly, I was freaking out when she started talking at the Active Lava Zone, with the Dragon right there.
Like, my Queen, I love you, but this IS NOT THE _TIME_ -
This part literally made me cry how touch the story is.
This games sound design was awesome. Also, you forgot the ending scene from the rocket
When I got the first message and I heard the static like sound I thought my headphones were finally out of warranty but when the actual Emperor appeared I was about ready to throw my controller I was so flipping scared 😂
It was really good but where's the ending part when you leave the planet with Neptune (the rocket) she says something else

Combined with the way she talks to you and her soft nature, yes, she’s cute
Like a real living incarnation of a goddess.
This is so legitimately terrifying because of how little the ocean has been explored
I had such a hard time trying to find the sea emperor that i thought it was just concept art until i found it
When she died was really sad for me 😞
Me to man i started crying :(
THE SEA MOMMY HAD SPOKEN
It’s sad and tragic to know she lived her whole life trapped in this tiny aquarium, and still holding on to save her world and babies
There wasn't anything better when I went to sleep to skip time and than after waking up, I got the first message and was like: "Oh good morning Martha"
Gives me the shivers.
