Back in the old Unknown Worlds forums the Aurora was said by a dev to be about 1500 m. The Gargantuan-sized Reaper only looks bigger here due to perspective. It should be noted that we don't have a clear estimate on the size of the Gargantuan Fossil creature.
To me, Crabsquids are the scariest-looking monster in Subnautica and today I learned that they are not only bigger than a human, they are probably bigger than my entire bedroom. I didn't wanna sleep anyways.
Imagine you just chilling in the most beautiful place you've ever seen and some glowy thing in the distance turns off your flashlight Yeah I'd swim away with water in my wet suit. If you get what I mean
To put it into perspective for those of us who don't use the metric system... a 12 meter jellyray... is about the size of a school bus. And the reaper leviathan clocking in at an unfathomable 55 meters... is almost TWICE THE LENGTH of a BLUE WHALE. ...Lifeforms in Subnautica are very, very big.
In this game is hard to notice the real size of the creatures, most of the looks smaller than how they really are. For example a good way to notice the size of a reaper leviathan is putting the Cyclops near one and see them from some distance, both of them have more or less the same lenght, another way is building a base near one of them and compare him with a corridor or a multipurpose room, you can use a stasis rifle for this.
that is true, inside a seamoth or swimming near them, the size is not noticeable at all, but if you leave the seamoth when a reaper holds it or using the cases that you mention if the size of a reaper can be appreciated, that it's horribly creepy
Or if you put the player model next to a reaper model and freecam it then you can really notice how screwed you should be if a reaper ever catches you without a vehicle
3:43 Remember that in current biology, an animal to be bigger than another animal, it needs to be heavier and expansive. For example a serpent of maybe 7 meters, 30 cm of thicknes and only 300 kg is smaller than a crocodile that is 5 meters large but it weights 1 ton and its thicknes is about 1 meter. This also apply for our earth's animals and also for the other comparision like the sea treader and the crabsnake Yet atleast you clarify that its only an horizontal lenght size comparison.
Yeah that makes sense. The crabsquid fits strangely in this comparison, unfortunately, because almost every other creature is serpent-like in shape. Because of some anomalies like that, I tried to go strictly off of horizontal size. You definately have a point, though.
it only needs to be more expansive, weight technically never matters. The reason for that are cephalopods which lack skeletons and therefor very light yet extremely massive. For instance a Giant Octopus has a tentacle span of 4 meters and yet only clocks in at about 20 kilogramms. I could technically pick that Octopus up and throw it and yet it would require only 1 of its 8 arms to break my spine. The more you know. But yeah size is mainly about the amount of space a animal takes up.

The way Subnautica measures lengths is rather weird, because the arms and legs you see on your own body are on a different scale to make it look right on a screen. There are really two vastly different scales that are combined together to create the illusion of correct perspective. If you take the numbers from the game file as they are, then the player character would be something like 5 meters tall in comparison. Wait, if Warper 4.5 and our character in game has almost the same size, yet smaller in comparison to Blood crawler, as whom we are playing? God damn elastic man
late entry to the party here, but the game works on 2 size-scales, where the 3rd cam (real) size is what is shown here, while the 1st person is very different and does not actually put objects in scale correctly if you are swimming, so to see how big something actually is in relation to the player, bring it close to the cyclops cockpit or a base-window and WALK on the other side, because then you see how big it actually is.
I think some people have said this (also I forgor when was the living gargantuan leviathan mod added) but gargantuan leviathan is ackhsually 5km (5.000m), if they add the living version to official version, it would be cool and annoying. mods dont work in the recent 2.0 build.
@@Carfanatic521 it's 100% available to the public, they just haven't finished it yet AFAIK
And isn't canon.
@nicolerobbins5965 you just said that concept art was based on a speculation.
Also 4 times isn't "a bit off".
I think its about time I try this game out
they did a great job optimizing the game with the last patch update. so many of the problems the game used to have are now just an echo in the wind. it was long over due. especially the texture and terrain popping problem.
I didn’t know there was a gargantuan leviathan, now I don’t wanna go near this game, but I also want to scan the gargantuan leviathan 😂
its a mod, not in the base game
The poor spinefish and crab snake at the end… both infected…
Eyeye too...
Wait, if Warper 4.5 and our character in game has almost the same size, yet smaller in comparison to Blood crawler, as whom we are playing? God damn elastic man
Bruh the in game character is not 15 feet tall
late entry to the party here, but the game works on 2 size-scales, where the 3rd cam (real) size is what is shown here, while the 1st person is very different and does not actually put objects in scale correctly if you are swimming, so to see how big something actually is in relation to the player, bring it close to the cyclops cockpit or a base-window and WALK on the other side, because then you see how big it actually is.
Oh nice so one ampeel is bigger than my house
In my opinion, reaper leviathan would have been really cool if it were actually that size
I think some people have said this (also I forgor when was the living gargantuan leviathan mod added) but gargantuan leviathan is ackhsually 5km (5.000m), if they add the living version to official version, it would be cool and annoying. Idk why, massive creatures looks cool and really suit this game, 1 thing that will make gargantuan annoying is just the size, it would no-clip everything, the body/tail will be visible even if it's placed in the void, unless if it's placed in the deepest sea (as I remember the void max depth is 8km, so yeah?)
From what we know the Canon garg is at max 1.5km. Not 5km. There is no hint for the big Skull (the one with the ribs) to be juvenile.
@@the4GIVEN Finally, someone sane.
Is it just me or why did it look like half-life 1 characters 💀
How tf is the reaper is gargantuan leviathan there is a mod a gargantuan leviathan mod and its more bigger than that the juvenile gargantuan is size of the giant reaper
It's a general representation of the scale of the Gargantuan leviathan
Its a mod dude it might not be oficial
@@justanotherman9803 It’s based off of a massive skeleton found in game, the mods just bring it back to life
@@whyisyes3957 That skeleton is 1/3 of the full creature, and is only around 400 meters long, meaning the reference scale that Carfanatic made is accurate
@@Red_04 Yeah it looked quite accurate
I think the Gargantuan Leviathan was more then 1,5 Kilometers, i think i saw once that its actually something of 5 Kilometers or longer for the fully grown ones
That mod isn't canon.
@@СергійСавелов thats not from a Mod
@@DESTINATION-TV ok, what's your source then?
The size is either broken or they are too small
Not so fun fact: The gargantuan leviathan doesn’t have a limit to its size it simply either starves or dies of old age before it can become too big
N o t c a n o n
The skeleton of the gargantuan leviathan is actually only a third
The real length of an adult one is close to 15 thousand meters
The skeleten of the gargantuan is 400m and is 1/3. 400x3=1200, so not 15 thousand but 1200m.
15000 meters = 15 kilometers = 9 miles. That's way off. Its head alone would've take up the entire game space.
Actually this is wrong. The skeleton is actually a fetus and the real leviathan is 333333333344444333m long. It eats planets.
Ain't no way that the rockgrub is smaller than garg
Well the gargantuan leviathan is actually 5000m long 💀
It's not.
That mod isn't cannon.
Damn, small fish is actually significantly bigger than I thought
The Gargantuan that we can see is nearly a part of its full size, aswell as being juvenile, estimations say taht the adult Gargantuans would reach up to 5000m in length
Just out of curiosity:
Where is it stated that it is juvenile? Like, in all those years I've never seen anything about the big skeleton being juvenile. Not even once.
@@СергійСавелов From what I can tell, the juvenile thing is completely made up. The game never once states that the bones were of a juvenile. I think it's a case of fans wanting this thing to be even bigger so they say it's a juvenile because it's cooler that way.
@@sirwyattt yea, I know.
I just have a habit of being extremely petty and asking questions, I know the other side has either no answers to or any true answer destroys the point.
Anyway, thanks for being another sane person here!
Not me thinking a blox fruits sea beast was on the thumbnail😭😭
El gargantuan leviathan mide 5000 metros de largo,1500metros mideo el adolecente
Adult garg is ~1 200 meters.
I bought the game recently and I'm not able to change the load of items like Seaglide, even with great battery life, the option to change it doesn't appear. Game on PlayStation 4! Can someone help me?
Ello
The hoverfish is the cutest one for sure
1kth like
Everyone who is saying that the Garg is 5km long is WRONG
The 5km long Garg is from a mod so it's not canon, the only canon size for the Garg is around 1100-1500m
