I really wanna give a shoutout to Mattias. People don't often appreciate what the bass does for the tone of the band, but listing to this record live here and on Spotify, Mattias' tone on bass really gives the bands growl a warmth to it that not a lot of other metal bands have. He's present in the mix, he doesn't just bleed into the mix like so many metal bassists do. I really like the fact that he's playing a 4 string Fender. It helps shape the overall sound of the band and makes them stand out to me. Really proves how Leo Fender got it right the first time I guess. Great playing and tone Mattias!
as a bassist i second this. His grooves are utterly disgusting (in a good way :)) and he sits perfectly in the mix. whoever mixes them is a genius. I think he really shines in Triassic, the intro groove is killer!
I totally agree, am not a musician so the way I feel it is that the ocean have a lot of strong ‘ambiance’ and a setting where their songs lay in instead of the song just happening in your face sort to speak and for such a style, the bass plays a big part in setting the stage that the song happens, unfolds in And what a stage it is

Honoured to have opened for them when they toured India way back in 2019. We were thrilled by the powerful performance they had put up and now seeing this live set made me smile in reminiscence 🖤
I discovered this band when they released Pelagial and they have easily been one of my favorites since. All of their music feels as though I'm taking a journey and I love it
I thought the studio album was amazing but this just takes it to a whole new level. Somehow each album just managed to get better and better. Keep killing it guys!

I found this band because I am a Jonas Renske junkie. I found Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic and Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic - Jonas is on both of those records. Then, the algorithm popped this full set in my feed today. Thanks for all the work put into everything you guys do, means a lot to me. Can't wait to experience this moment, in a cycle, for ever and ever, backwards and forwards.
This and the Phanerozoic II Live shows have been playing on repeat in my apartment ever since they were released last year... Cant Fucking Wait for more music !!!
I've been listening to them for over 4 years after a buddy of mine told me about them. They were an hour from me playing live Thursday and I got to go. There is no production going on to this video. This is 100% how they sound live. Absolutely incredible.
Agreed. The Great Dying is so interesting as a chapter in Earths History, but the song gives the era life. A way to view it while 95% dissapeared at the time.
Went to a concert in Nashville last week not expecting that you guys were going to put on a better show than the band I was there to see, and you did that. You have yourself a forever fan. David's energy is unmatched too. Keep up the excellent work.
Stellar performance, just like part II. I saw you guys in Monterrey, Mexico a week ago...great you could swing by. I really enjoyed it, awesome sound and visuals! Great interaction with the crowd! Obviously left us wanting for more!

I seriously can't ge over that build up from Cambrian Explosion into Eternal Recurrence, It sounds SO GOD DAMN GOOD! Just the peaceful and smooth instruments slowly building up and that damn explosion as Cambrian II opens up, good god. Robin and the others who are involved, you are god damn geniuses!
So fucking good. Tranquillity, gut punching riffs, that voice, rumbling bass and the drums are out of this world. Love your music, greetings from hessen, germany:)

You guys have become my favorite band in the last two months since this was posted. It flows so well reminds me of Gojira at parts and at other parts like Opeth perfect balance in my opinion. I've heard all the old stuff and I can honestly say this is my favorite discoveries on RUclips so far besides Early Fallujah. Thank you Metal Blade and The Ocean as well for such a Stellar Performance. So Flawless sounds better Live than Studio and that is Amazing.
Since I was introduced to this I have had heard this CD at least 30times I can't wait for the March show in Los Angeles hopefully they play Devonian:Nascent favorite song by Far.
Scary how Loïc can sound so much like Jonas during Jonas's parts in Devonian. If I didn't have the video I don't think I could have told. Or are they playing Jonas from tape and Loïc is harmonising?
This is awesome and I love it! Where can I find more bands that play this kind (Don't know the name of this genre) of music or could somebody recommend a few more bands (or a lot lol)?
His screams sound healthy and he doesn't seem to show any tension when he screams, which tells he's probably doing proper screaming technique which can definitely be tiring and demands good breath control, but doesn't put any harmful strain on your vocal chords at all. When you learn how to scream correctly you actually notice that a lot of the time, the more relaxed you are the easier it is to produce good screams. And it doesn't hurt your throat at all, like, not in the slightest. You can do it all day and you will be tired, just as tired as if you were clean singing, but not tasting blood or with a sore throat or anything like that.
@@ElGnomistico well, I got 15 years as a metalcore vocalist including professional training under my belt and happen to not miss the veins popping out when he screams ;). It is not healthy and he almost quit the band some years ago because of the constant strain, esp on tour. Pelagial after all was initially intended to be an instrumental album for that very reason. But now they are using Paul and Robin as well for support with clean and distorted vocals so...much better balance and of course much healthier for any tour.
@@ElGnomistico also that it does not hurt your throat at all is wrong. No matter how well your technique, you have to do additional pre and post show exercises to avoid long term damage.
