I’m really enjoying this one…they’re trying new things, and I think it’s awesome how the album progresses from subdued and melodic to fierce and powerful
Goodness, this album has it all. The perfect chill out with a cold one moments, the bang your head moments, and the "how did they do that?" moments. Awesome effort!!!!
I haven't been a fan since the beginning. I discovered The Ocean Collective around the time Palegial dropped about ten years ago. Been a fan ever since, managed to see The Ocean play a prog metal gig in Melbourne, Australia a few years ago. I finished this album on Tidal about 5 hours ago. My first complete listen I couldn't help but consider how much this band continues to explore, experiment, blend and progress. I am not always ready for what they bring, which forces me to re-frame what the band is for me. It reminds me of Radiohead back in 2004, with their dramatic re-imaginings of their sound with each record. The Ocean hooked me in with their seismic prog metal epics. However, now, they are so much more and I am here for it. They are geniune artists on the front line of modern music and I am in awe of what this record offers in scope. Now, I am going to further experience this album on high rotation for awhile.
I also started my journey with Robin during Pelegial. I always loved his role as a composer and his ability to not only layer musicical ideas, but also the layering of multiple historic, religious, and philosophical ideas. I so agree with your Radiohead comparison. They pushed boundaries and sounded like nobody else at the time. The Ocean’s pushing these same boundaries with their continuous growth and expansion through layering of soundscapes on top of their heaviness. It will be interesting to see where their music, and popularity, goes in the future. They should be much bigger than they are. Son, you need a radical change!
@@NikCornejo well considering the fact that their comment literally began with "I haven't been a fan since the beginning" I struggle to see how you're adding anything to the conversation.

Admittedly I was a bit sceptic they'd be able to pull off another great album after such a streak of great releases, but looks like I had no reason to doubt! Very pleasing to hear some of the familiarity of the stuff from the earlier works, especially Precambrian and Phanerozoic II, yet there was that new electronic aspect (and female vocals) added to the soundscape, fits the theme of the modern times. A bit sad that this album marks the end of the series though, but I'm sure they'll figure out something new and exciting eventually!
The singles made me skeptical of this album, not because it was bad or anything but because it sounded very different, so I wasn't very excited. Then I started thinking about it constantly, listening to the singles some more times. It got stuck in my head. Then I proceeded to hear all their other works in anticipation for Holocene and honestly? I was dumb. It sounds exactly like it should, it's a clear cut convergence point in their evolution of sound, it sounds completely natural. It is what it should be. And it's honestly one of my favorite albums from them, contender for the best in my opinion.

Revert back to pluripotent cells
And halt for good the aging process
