- Scaler 2 Workflow | Creating Acoustic Harmony
In this Scaler 2 workflow video Davide creates a rock / pop track and using Scaler 2.4.1 he creates all the melodic and harmonic element of the track with the new phrases, performances and chord sets using all new content.
Davide is using Scaler's internal sounds and the Native Instruments suite of Strummed and Picked Acoustic and Electric guitar libraries.

He's back ladies and gentlemen! HE'S BACK!!! :)
It's one thing to create a great plugin.
It's really something special if you then also continue to explain it in a very inspiring way.
Thanks a lot Davide.
Hey Scaler developers.. thanks so much, truly, for continuing to make the best prototyping plugin on the planet even better. Honestly, Scaler is the best plugin I own because it saves me so much time and sparks ideas that I would have never thought of on my own. Thank you a million times! And David, thanks for all these great workflow videos!
Thanks for the kind feedback @Katy B and thanks for the support!
Game over .......
Love this channel. Scaler 2 was the best VST I have ever purchased, and you have taught me so much about it!
I bought this plugin a long time ago and totally forgot about it. Just getting into it now. MIND BLOWN. Amazing!
David, thanks for these brilliant tutorials.. And thanks for mentioning the product revision. Many people demoing products, forget to do that and it's very important!
Truly blown away by this tutorial.
Wow! very tastefull, David - great Plugin and plenty inspiring :) ..I wish I could use Scaler so well :D - (greetings from germany)
btw: People, watching the video several times, calmly and focused. Then you understand the content better :)
Great, thank you. Scaler makes the difference.
Great tut David and once again a brilliant piece of software that’s a pleasure to use.
Thanks especially for demonstrating melody making functions in Scaler. Nice track too👌🏿
Thanks for watching and supporting. Melody also covered in detail in this video here : ruclips.net/video/54ia9VsINaE/видео.html
The gift that keeps on giving. Thank you very much for this amazing product. Inspiration pure:)
Thanks for supporting.
This plugin is phenomenal, from concept to execution. Amazing job.
Thanks for the good vibes and thanks for supporting
Another great, useful tutorial, this time for us rock guys. I can’t think of too many plugins that not only update as much as Scaler, but keep putting out extensive tutorials with such a wide variety of use cases. Brilliant and congratulations. Other companies take note!
Thanks for the feedback! We will!!
Excellent combination of guitar textures. Exceptional tutorial, Davide.
Thanks Javier appreciate the kind words 🙌🙏👍
What a great tutorial. I’ve learned a lot. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful and thanks for supporting!
Brilliant and informative video for a plugin that sits quite comfortably with the description 'innovative and inspiring'
Many thanks! Thank you for supporting 🙏
Nice, looking forward to updating Scaler later and having a play with some of the new additions.
Great tutorial, David. Please, do you have a dedicated video on how to create melodies using that feature: Keys-Lock > Chord notes > Muted.
Yes that's covered in detail in this video here : ruclips.net/video/54ia9VsINaE/видео.html
Amazing stuff! I've used Scaler so far just to propose me interesting chords and inversions, or chord progressions (modulations) - a sort of harmonic theory built-in without the need for me to know it. Instant results and much fun. Yet here the powerfullness of some basic guitar arpeggios on top of those chords (ah, the borrowed chord...) are really enchanting. Scaler, with regular updates, is blowing out all my previous midi arp and chorders, it is getting so much more powerful.
The tutorial video is well built. I started with Scaler 2, but I found useful to watch also the Scaler 1 videos you did 3 years ago, when you watch the videos chronologically you understand much better. I suggest you to put / link them all in one place on the website, some newcomers might find some passages too fast.
Yes I think thats good advice, watching chronologically makes you aware of all the features and their intent.
I definitely need to get this.
Please do. Hope it will bring you as much joy and inspiration as it has to the rest of us 🙏
I love Scaler 2 but came to comment on how sharp and ergonomic Davide's studio is!
Scaler (and ChordPrism) and SeratoStudio are key to my music and beatmaking
sounds like U2
Ha! That's a nice compliment even if that wasn't the intention. My wife told me it sounds like whinge rock!
Nice. I've been trying to figure out how to get a jazz or funk kind of feel with scaler. I don't know if it's even possible or whether I'm missing something. I can create chord sets but it's the melodic side in struggling with. Any suggestions would be helpful. Ir a tutorial would be even better.
Best scaler teacher ever and I would like to know which effect was used on the vocal track.
Thanks for feedback. Davide used a Guitar Rig for the distortion and NI Replika for the delay
Perfect! Please for the next update add MPE option, so I can really use this plugin in real life scenario :)
DEVS are Working on it!
this plugin is a game changer on so many levels!!! how do you upgrade from 2.4 to 2.41?
Go to pluginboutique, select your account, select scaler and in the dropdown menu you will see 2.4.1 - thanks for the good vibes.
Impressive! But slow down a bit! I am having trouble understanding what you just did. Perhaps some highlighted arrows to see where you are in scaler? Maybe some breakdown of exactly what you are doing between the scaler modules. Perhaps some animated graphics? What is Scaler Control?
HI, there are several other videos in this playlist which are intended for entry scaler users. In this video Davide is trying to demonstrate how to use the recent content to create harmonies and melodies. I guess its more intended for Scaler users familiar with the UX but yes indeed there was lots to cram into a small space. Please do check out some of the other videos here: ruclips.net/p/PLCy2m2n0N8QrslPwt7io36Rs2bU1-oBW- and join the community over at scalerplugin.com
Scaler Control is a MidiFX-version for Logic Pro. If you don’t use Logic you can use the normal Scaler.
Big BRAVO to Scaler again!I have not understand yet how do i trigger the Scaler in each instrument either Kontakt or other instrument.Do i have to open many instances of Scaler or to drug and drop Scaler as a plugin in send area (in Studio One 5 Presonus)?Or i have to change the only the input control of each instrument?I am very confused.Thank you very much again!
Head over to scalerplugin.com and discuss with the community. Plenty of Studio One users there. Logic Pro X has a dedicated Midi Control function as demonstrated here by Davide
I use Scaler so much, I see Ableton as a plug-in for Scaler 😂.
You know what would be amazing?! If you guys incorporated intervals in the melody section and have it say which intervals evoke which emotions and then have melody presets from there. Or at least the note that starts that interval. Also, can you do string ostinatos that go along with the chords within Scaler?
Thanks for feedback, passed on!
Thank you for all the tutorials. I have a problem: I’m trying to use Scaler with NI guitar plugins (acoustic, strummed, electric vintage or sunburst) but when I bind the chords to keys, I’m not getting the different chords. Instead, I’m getting some of the chords and many of the wood tapping or mute sounds of the lower controller octave guitar effects for the guitar effects. How does it work?
Check out the premiere tomorrow and Davide covers exactly that in the 'Composing for Video Game with Scaler 2.5' ruclips.net/video/IDapyaQJ7ao/видео.html
Great video David. If there a chance you can get someone from the developer group to do some videos in Studio One 5? Thanks Tony
Thanks for there suggestion, will pass it on!
Hi Sir. May I ask a question? how can I get the pattern of chords from Scaler 2 and use it for example Syntronik 2? I am a bit confused because I don't know how to set it up. Last time I've used Scaler 2 on several instruments I get the same sound to all whenever I change one instrument. Thanks
Can I download more songs from somewhere for the songs drop-down?
hey! what mixboard do you have there??? 😀 is a neve?
Davide is using a Neve 8424
👍🏾
At 9:58 you hit a key that triggers a chord in Scaler and Scaler then plays the distorted guitar VST. In one of those chords the VST automatically does a performed (fretted) slide up to the higher notes in the pattern. How would I go about accomplishing something like that? I have a few guitar VSTs and would love to learn how to have that behavior automatically.
Hi , I think in this instance Davide has used a Kontakt guitar library (Electric Sunburst Deluxe from NI) that responds to velocity (how hard you hit the key) with high velocity triggering the slide. Lots of different guitar libraries behave in this manner. Hope that helps.
Im having a problem using Scaler 2
I am using a kontrol keyboard . Can't get Scaler to respond to the keyboard. When in detection mode waiting on input. I have a Bass track with Komplet Kontrol . The next track using the Scaler 2 however no response. Can you please help .? Do I use Scaler 2 for all the track instead of a mix of plug-ins. Using Ableton Live 11.
Sounds like you are trying to use audio detection instead of midi detection. Have a quick check through the manual or watch this audio detection video here: ruclips.net/video/7Pbr5Ti7P5o/видео.html Also join the community for help from thousands of scaler users forum.scalerplugin.com
Can you change the duration of a chord just for one chord? I'm struggling to get the rhythm I want because I have chord duration in settings set to 1 beat and all chords with a 4x duration. But for one chord, I want to give it a 3x duration with it repeating once. The issue is, after that note plays, the next one comes in much later than I want it to come in.
You can change lengths of individual chords in EDIT mode, head over to forum.scalerplugin.com and the users can help you there otherwise check out ruclips.net/video/eGVrscdVZm0/видео.html
I really like your videos but i would love to see you starting a song on another instrument for example and then using Scaler to develop and advance that idea
Hi Jake thanks for the compliment. Have you tried the making an entire track or starting with a melody videos in the playlist in the description above?
I wish we could add it as a MIDI Fx in cubase swell.. :( something you guys think can happen in the future?
That's a question for the Cubase Developers. Midi FX plugin as becoming the norm so I think its only a matter of time that DAW developers will better integrate them. I believe Scaler developers are building something that will overcome this.......
@@SchoolofSynthesis Ok fair Enough! I hope cubase comes up with something... But thank you for still finding a workaround... I just love the way scaler flows in Logic hope to have it soon on Cubase too..
I wish that in Cubase, using Scaler with a Kontakt instrument was as easy as dropping Scaler in as a MIDI insert, like you do here in Logic Pro. Instead, we have to create a scaler track for each performance IN ADDITION TO the related instrument track for the sound to be played. So we end up with double track count.
We would love to see DAWs employ a similar midi control setup for Logic. Ableton has a similar setup to Cubase but in a way in Logic you are loading Scaler and an Instrument just on the one channel.
True during "development". When you're finished, just delete the Scaler MIDI track you used to drive it. MIDI tracks take up virtually no resources except track count.
I'm also in Cubase, with the VST spec it's a pity that we have double tracks, I agree with you, it practically stops me from putting many instances of Scaler in my session. When we want to play Scaler together with other arps/midi players (i.e. ReMIDI as in another video, or a more complex arpeggiator) we have double tracks for those as well, since they all are treated as vst instruments. Yet consider also the upside: you may put the controlled instrument track into record and have the midi chords recorded there realtime without waiting for the MIDI record within Scaler: they can't do that in Audiounits hosts!
We need a strum slider or something to give it more control.
Stay tuned for scaler 2.5 major update including some major focus on guitar based features. DEVS tell us expected Q4 2021
Is that some kind of Neve summing mixer infront of you
Indeed, Davide is using the Neve 8424
@@SchoolofSynthesis seriously jealous
why distort?
When are you going to add support for Garageband? Then demo works but you can't register it. It must be an easy fix so why not do it?!?!
Not sure Garageband is an area of focus for the devs but may I suggest you head over to the community where you will be heard and maybe offered an answer?: scalerplugin.com
great video. i have a feeling that i play the same song over and over again :) it is because of cords. can you show how scaler transform regular cords progression into something more original with using the same melody
Try inverting notes in your chords
I really like Scaler and what David it trying to show in the video but the overall sound is very bad, The chord part is so loud and distorted it overpowers the other parts and many times what David is saying. It makes it very difficult to hear the new features he is trying to demonstrate.
Yep, I can't watch this through. The ridiculous amount of distortion on the chord part and the vocal made me stop watching. This is supposed to be "acoustic?" Yikes.
Heisof
I don't know about anybody else, but everything sounds like it's clipping to me.
The Sound is terrible in the Video. Only the internally scaler sound!
One minute you sound like U2, the next minute you sound terrible, One persons trash is another persons treasure I guess. But I think thanks for saying the internal scaler sound sounds good!
I don't think so Tim :P .... Rewatch the video ;)
I agree. This would be better without so much delay (the same delay as well) on everything, less distortion and a few more mixing adjustments. I get the ideas with scaler here but the mix is very VERY busy in the end and too much in my face to actually distinguish the different elements and so on..
New to Scaler and still messing with it. Getting close to the workflow I want.
Can you stop saying mixoLODian as it's pronounced mixoLIDian but spelled as mixoLYDian. I'm sure you say LIDian for LYDian and not LODian. LOL.
He has been severely reprimanded and looks like on our latest video he has finally learnt how to pronounce it! 🤣😜
Scaler is missing that fart bass sound. Everyone loves a bass that sounds like a fart.
Acoustiky??? 🤔 Yet, what we hear is an electric guitar. Um, what does acoustic mean then?
"Lets create some acoustic harmony", "here lets listen to this hedious rock distorted guitar for the next 28 minutes," weird?
Quite unlistenable. Heh I bought the programme so the earlier demos did the job, but.......phew....
Sorry @badterrorists - can please everyone!
