Absolutely love scaler. A function i would love to see introduced would be the ability to use performance (automatied phrasing) mode where when you press a new chord it doesn't cancel the last phrase you pressed and starts the rhythmic pattern from the beginning again, but instead continues the pattern from where it last was, continuing it with the notes of the next chord you're pressing. More swing options would also be great

I LOVE these David Carbone videos. It's always inspiring seeing him construct a track around Scaler. I've always been very scared of modulations, especially in a chorus where it's the hook of the song!! I'm inspired to give that a try now. :)

I bought scaler 2 a few years ago and didn’t realize there were multiple updates since then 😅 the difference from 2.3 to 2.8 is crazy good.

I bought scaler when it first came out, best purchase in my lifetime. I can't get it to work with Kontakt Instruments though in the latest Cubase 13.

Great video. Thank you so much. If it makes sense, can those 1 to 5 numbered tabs on the right be made horizontal, a little bigger and then placed between the header/status and keyboard area? I know we can use keyboard shortcuts, but would be nice visually if nothing else. Just my opinion.

Just one thing, is it possible, and if not yet, then maybe implement it, to change the keyswitch midi notes?
Especially with those NI Guitar libraries, it would be a great help, if I could tell Scaler to use C6 or something to switch Patterns instead of the given once.

How do you determine what the key switches do like when you switched patches in KONTACT and automating the key-lock change in Arcade?
Somehwat confused on the Kontakt portion> @ 30:27 We start using the piano roll to switch patches in Kontakt. But, Ibiza first patch is on C1. We just added a note to C1 to to ensue it played the first pattern in Scaler 2. Is scaler overwriting that first command from Kontakt?

Watching the replay... there is a basic question I have with Scaler2... how can I change the binding... if I wanted things not to always be starting from C... I hate it when I use my keyboard transposed, to play instruments, and then back to scaler everything should be starting from C...
Also, you were super lucky with these keyswitches that by an amazing chance did not overlap... until "Middle 8"... You trigger this pattern using keyswitch F1... which is also used to change to "Ibiza F Mtd" on the Guitar... how can you resolve these conflicts?
I tried assigning midi keys to patterns, but unfortunately ... it only works with CC and not simple notes... :(
I came to the comments to see if there’s answer to this question. I had the same one. How does the key switch for scaler not trigger the kontakt switch? Does scaler take preference over kontakt?
@@tblatham The answer to your question was given in the video: if the keyswitch is for scaler, then it is used by scaler and won't be propagated to Kontakt.

Can I use a totally customized scale and use a scaler to help me build the entire accompaniment and random phrases within the notes of my scale? What I am saying is that I do not want to use the existing preset scales and I want to use a totally unique scale of my own.
Hey.. I followed along doing the exact same steps and the 4th chord of each pattern played 6 beats instead of 4. How strange. No idea why?

In 8:43 min/sec mark-- David shows his song layout on timeline--Verse, Bridge, Chorus, Middle 8. What is the difference between a Bridge and Middle 8. I thought a Middle 8 was a 8 bar bridge---- and he the timeline showing a 8 Bar Bridge and a 8 bar Middle 8.
Scaler 2 , is there a an easier way just to write an arrangements right into the PAD, when I already know the chords for that song. Instead of searching for the chords in Scales, Songs etc. Scaler is a beautiful applications and was wondering if there is an easier way to write down the chords so I may share my old friends and classmates what has music evolved to. Thanks again and more power to you.

It is not at all clear what to do if the key switch of the scaler and the electric sunburst are the same: let's say I have the D key in the chorus and I need a guitar preset, which is also on the same note - what should I do? (And yet - what if there are more than eight parts of the work?) Thank you in advance for your answer. Alexander

The key switch use is cool, but there’s many reasons not to use it. For me the key changes and pattern changes are hidden in the midi - I hate that. It’s difficult to manage and find later. Logic has key change available on every region, and I prefer to see Kontakt pattern changes on separate tracks. Think about cutting and pasting regions - you need to have a chorus pattern and key in separate regions - not embedded in midi data on a single track. But it’s up to you. Still, it’s impressive what Scaler can do. The ‘mod’ options for transitioning from one chord progression to the next is nifty, but creating all the patterns of song in the pad mode is, meh…
@@jeffagoddard Hi Jeff, in your email you have the phrase: "Think about cutting and pasting regions - you need to have a chorus pattern and key in separate regions..." What does this mean and do you have a link to this thema?
@@alexanderweingard1390 I saying that in your DAW, having all the sections of your composition in 1 Scaler track is difficult to manage and having sections like chorus, bridge, verses all on separate tracks makes cutting and pasting sections easier. It's jut a matter of personal choice.

Only thing that stumps me is how to implement different instruments in say, Kontakt, where there are more than one instrument available, in Ableton Live 11. Live is good at sending to a different instrument, but not all the instruments, via playing it on a different track. Live does not have the direct ability to put another midi instrument behind Scaler 2, such as how David did that in Logic Pro.
Scaler 2.8 got Studio One 6.5 to crach.

A bit late but that Amin chord didn't sound well because you were modulating C major into C major, instead of using D major as the base.
Next time, crank up the mic gain to match the music output....can barely hear you
So, is the marketing misleading or am I just an idiot? I purchased a Scaler 2 package understanding it is supposed to work with GarageBand (MacOS) and followed the instructions and....nothing. It won't download the license, won't open in GarageBand...again, nothing. Anyone else use this with GB and somehow figure it out or did I just get ripped off??

It doesn’t say it’s working with GB on Mac (just iOS)! So you weren’t misled or ripped off.
Why is it always about key modulation? A complex topic known to maybe 10%
of your target audience? Even when chord editing was introduced in 2.1 your
video discussed it only in the context of a very complex circle of fifths discusssion

Another great video! The course is on sale for $15 - what an amazing deal 👏 But, but, but... you've diluted your valuable brand by shaving and changing from skirt/cardigan to T shirt and hoodie! LOL! I know, I know, you might think I'm nuts but your brand is worth far more than the sum of all your revenue sources. It says 'integrity, knowledge, laid back, optimism, subdued excitement'. From this point, you could sell anything you like.

These vocals are really not my type ouchhhm the only vocals i can stand are choirs!
I know you may not care what I have to say but your video audio intro is terrible. The volume is so stupidly loud and then all of a sudden your voice comes on and it's like at volume level one. You figure if you're trying to teach music here you would know how to fix these audio issues by now
Sorry.. to much blah without coming to the point. You can reduce the video to 1O minutes and have all the information you require. 👎
