Fallout 4 Starlight Drive-In Settlement Build - NO MODS

- Опубликовано: 3 фев 2022
- The Sole Survivor teams up with the Railroad to build a settlement that will serve as an economic center for the northern region of the Commonwealth. This build was done on PS4 using the Game of the Year Edition with no building mods (only CC skins and clothing). Check out the links below for my blog and gallery of this settlement and links to my inspiration for this build.

...Fine, I'll play Fallout 4 again 😅 What I love about builds like these is that they don't ignore the original feel and personality of the area. Fits seamlessly into the game with a realistic flair.
That saucer was just too inviting. I built a Rooftop Bar / Dancefloor with the Saucer as the centerpiece (I glitched a bonfire inside of it so it had little tongues of flame coming out of the top) 😃. I added an elevator, but also some stairs so the settlers would go there. Starlight is a really fun place to build in.
Amazing work!, i've seen a lot of people mad about the janky settlement building mechanics, but tbh it's such a therapy for me, i can see you too enjoy it, takes so much time and patience to make something like this, not including the theme, the RP, and making everything with some actual sense in it, have your well earned cheers mi good sir *proud euphoric clapping*
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! You're absolutely right, I find the whole building process calming and a wonderful mental exercise at the same time. The mechanics of building are weird but once you get the hang of them it's really fun what you can do! :)
I hate this game as RPG... But I do love building aspects of it. I maybe be a filthy mod user, but I still strive with each impediment. It's like spore or Terraria (however, I keep dropping Terraria because of those stupid and constant blood moons)
46 minutes? This one will probably take me a few days to watch properly.
2:00 Good use of both of those gates.
5:25 That smaller water purifier looks a lot better with the concrete sunk below the dirt.
6:17 Nice way to extend that sign. I've never thought of that.
7:14 Atom Cats building looks cool.
8:43 A big tire and sledgehammer would go well here.
12:28 The dialogue pool's not much, but it's something.
17:30 lol
17:52 I really like that sign. Can't say I've seen any one do that. I wish I would have thought of that design when I built my Slanted Pole Saloon at Nordhagen.
23:00 The traveling merchants better not say _"Easy livin this ain't"_ when visiting Starlight. Looks like they have it quite good here.
24:40 Turned an irradiated eyesore into something beautiful.
25:25 Now I'm feeling like your chem shop should have been Adam's Blow. Trying to steal the bar's customers and convert them over to creationism while they're high on chems.
26:10 I wish you would have carried a rad barrel here from CIT, Mass Fusion Containment Shed, or Greater Mass blood clinic. That's still one of my favorite junk items and fits the CoA theme well.
33:52 Jangles experience a slight hang up in his moon launch?
35:11 I love doing that. Makes the plain floor pieces so much more interesting. I'll occasionally use the tops of furniture as pieces of plywood too. They can screw up settler pathing but outside like this it shouldn't be much of a problem. Indoors is a whole different story.
39:13 The Atom Cats building looks even better at night.
41:43 I've never tried it but I wonder if multiple Vault generators could be glitched into themselves to brighten up the glow and the arcing?
Well done! You just keep cranking out the hits.
Thanks as always for watching and commenting! Yeah, this settlement was large enough that I was shocked by the time I rendered the video and saw the final run time. I'm working on something smaller right now at Jamaica Plain which should be a more reasonable length! To your comments:
6:17: I want to say I got this from Sar, but I might be wrong.
8:43: Ack that's brilliant (as always!). I'll need to do that in the future!
17:52: I take it as high compliment if you say you've never seen another like it! Since "Atom's Glow" had something rectangular, I wanted a different shape for this one. I'm glad it turned out the way it did!
23:00: The settlers say that and I'm like "Do you SEE where you live?!"
26:10: Wait, you can carry rad barrels?! Now I need to go try that.
33:52: He's just hanging out. ;)
35:11: I know how weird it sounds, but this was one of my favorite parts of making this settlement. It just looked so...plain on the ground and I almost called it "done" until I began doing this.
41:43: I bet that would work!
@@BWTF_Ben You can carry some of the rad barrels. The ones with no top. There are several on a trailer in front of CIT but if you have already killed the Institute they are gone. There are also some you can carry out of Mass Fusion Containment and one in the basement of the blood bank near Ft Hagen. There are probably more but those are the ones I know of.
I think I'm to much of a clean freak when it comes to games like this lol. I like this neat, organized, straight and wires and all that hidden. But this build is soooo nice and creative
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Yes, the "scrappy" style can be a bit messy but I try to find beauty in the mess. :)
I have to jump in to compliment this video. I absolutely love that I found this channel.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching and commenting. :)
And this id why I still play this game. It feels like therapy to me. You’ve done an excellent job
Thank you so much!
I love building settlements in this game. I just love the idea of rebuilding society I guess.
I find the settlement building aspect really fun and relaxing. :)
Love this build! Absolutely love the idea of having atom cats join the minutemen and spreading across settlements with new members. Well done
Thank you for watching and commenting! Much appreciated.
This is awe-inspiring.
Chemelot as a clinic, Sew Dressed-up as a clothing store, Atom's Glow as a crappy bar, the Railroad guard, the non-radioactive water puddle serving as a water hole, etc. all make SO much sense, and add so much character to the boring & barren drive-in. It's like watching a colorful & lively mashup being meticulously explained, as it is painted on a canvas. This feels so Fallout that I wish this were the canon lore for the place after we reclaimed it and if it could thrive on its own - as I think no one else but you could have thought of these creative threads all by yourself.
Your voice and narrative style is so similar to Kerbal Space Command, all that is missing is the classical music and the how to bits. EXCELLENT video.
I'm in the middle of a settlement builder playthrough and your style has given me a lot of new ideas to try and incorporate into my world. Thank you! All your build look incredible, btw!
Thank you kindly! Have fun building up that settlement!
This is absolutely incredible. I'm starting my starlight build next, definitely will be stealing some ideas from you. Well done man!!
Chemelot in the front, opium den in the rear. Easy livin'? I dunno why, but the opium den really made me happy.
Sorry I missed this comment earlier. I wanted to do something a bit less "clean" than I normally did so I figured I'd do that. It was partly inspired by another build I saw online a couple years ago but unfortunately I can't remember which builder it was.
Great build! You have a nicely executed aesthetic theme throughout your build I wish came naturally to me.
Thank you so much! I owe a lot of my design sensibilities to guys like Sardeliac, Skooled Zone, the Insane Shecklador and norespawns. Definitely check them out. :)
This is actually quite immersive! So cool!
I really love your settlement! I was inspired to make my own glass building, but mine is a high end armor and weapon store. I really like the raised glass hallway between buildings too. Gonna steal that idea too. thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I am so happy you found inspiration. :)
just wow! one of the best settlements that I've seen
Thank you kindly! Sorry for missing this comment previously. :)
Beautiful settlement, Sir. Thanks for the tour 👍✌
Thank you! Much appreciated!
You have the coolest starlight drive in, dude! I've seen a lot of them but this one is the best! You rock! Happy trails!
🤠👍
Your build gives me good feeling!
Throwing in that 1000th like. This was well done and well worth the watch. I hope you continue to create amazing things.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! :)
Wish I could have a fresh save file with all of your settlements already built! Love your designs!
I have no words for this. How do you even see what to build. Where to start. I do build alot. But i do most copy the things i see on yt. But i have started to creat my own buildings now. But not in a milloon miles good as you guys. Fantastic.
For me the "anchors" of the settlement usually revolve around where settlement attackers spawn from. I usually put some type of security tower or structure there and then extend out from there. I also like to think about how the settlers live there and what they do after traveling and coming home. It's a fun mental exercise.
I love this, well done you have put so much work into it, it looks awesome 👏
Thank you for watching and commenting! This one was a big build so I appreciate you noticing. :)
@@BWTF_Ben of course no problem 🙌😁
Im thinking about tackling starlight soon and this is giving me good ideas to build on
Very cool! I hope you have as much fun building at Starlight as I did. :)
I like what you’ve done with the place. 😂
I have taken Starlight Drive-In and made a small Farming Settlement there centered around the Workshop Shed. Since there is a lot of steel scrap there I have concentrate on using the Metal Structure set. The main water source is a small Water Purifier at the water hole in the middle of the drive-in's parking area. Security to date is multiple watchtowers, but that is going to be reduced in area as it takes up too much of the limited amount of wood available. I am using no building/ construction mods so far, but only companion and equipment ones. So at Starlight since I am using the Nora Spouse Companion Mod I used a small Metal Shack prefab and made Nate and Nora a small cabin for when they're in town. So far the settlement has four farmers, but there is a scavenger station for when one arrives and I am going to reduce the guard posts/ watch towers down to a small number and concentrate them around the residential area of the settlement.
revisiting this game after buying the GOTY edition. I just built an "apartment complex" up the side of the movie screen using scaffolding and railroad cars. that was fun.
I do love how that big screen provides so many options as a foundation. I've seen incredible things built against it. :)
It looks absolutely amazing. I guess you spent quite a lot of time for that settlement. It really has this atompunk city vibe to it. I also like building and decorating my settlements but I always run pretty fast out of resources and the settlement building limit is just too low so in most cases my settlements look like that junk tower you showed in the beginning of the video plus tents and small shacks here and there
This can be fixed by dropping items and guns ect, then proceed to scrap them.
It will increase your build limit!
Thank you for watching. I totally missed this comment months ago so I apologize. I was definitely going for a scrappy vibe but thanks to the pre-existing structures it guided me towards that atompunk vibe (I love that word). This settlement took me about 3ish weeks to complete if I recall correctly.
You can totally get yourself more build space without mods BUT be cautious. Generally I do about 2-3 size bars before things start blowing up. You can see the Skooled Zone's video on it here: ruclips.net/video/b4WeRjEXUWU/видео.htmlsi=AwtU_LXyxFqUQ8LJ
Never connect electrical wire turret to turret - if one goes down - they all go down. Use the wire glitch one by one.
Thank to this video my starlight is now nice and big thank for this video👍👍
Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. :)
Love the vibe to it, starlight is always fun to build at. Always exciting to see what people do with the water pool in the middle. With the stove at the concessions stand, you could rug+ pillar glitch a cooking station there so the settlers can have a use for it. As always the music and narration is great and the blog makes a good compliment to the video
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! The sad reality is being on PS4 I was limited to what I could do. Had I built this up the way I originally intended to I'm sure I would have needed two more size bars and broken it in the process. Because of that, smaller things like glitching in a stove (which I did play around with) wound up getting ditched so I could "save" as much of the size bar as possible. This settlement truly made me think about what I could do if I was on a high end PC gaming rig!
This is incredible! I'm working on building a Starlight settlement myself, hope it turns out as good as yours
Thank you so much for commenting! Would love to see yours once it's done.
Those glowing liquid lamps always makes me think, irradiated urine 😂🤦🏽
i remember making a city in starlight: it was kinda like a large tower with several housing spots, a market and an armoury and had a whole walled off section connected to the tower that surrounded the main pre built starlight building and the wall even had the main gate, hell because i wanted it to feel like a proper city, i used the automatron dlc to make a few law enforcement robots lmao
Creative build. Very nice.
Thank you so much!
I made Starlight into my own diamond city. No mods. Love to show you. Mindyourmother Fallout 4 Starlight build. It took me a month to complete
Post it on your channel , would love to see it
How did you avoid the build limit?
@@Julianna.meneses drop guns in ur inventory and go to build mode and store those guns. Take the stored guns from the workbench then repeat
Another episode of Benson's Banging Builds. Awesome.
I wonder if the next gen update has reduced build limits? I'm currently at 3x reduced to zero and my Starlight build is empty in comparison.
I didn't know traveling merchants interacted with objects around caravan posts until I watched this video.
It's one of the reasons I *love* using the Caravan Post! It really adds "life" to the settlement. :)
Amazing job I wish I could get a copy of your saved game.
Or a blueprint of these builds
Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated!
This shit amazing
Thank you!
Doesn’t matter to me the age of this game the fact that you can just explore build and continue to interact makes this game still relevant for me at least matters not that they have made a show I was always playing in between my real life
You made my Starlight DRive-In city look shame. After saw this video. I'm going redo my city make them happy
I hope you have fun with it! It's a great place to build.
@@BWTF_Ben I really like those power plants. but how do you keep city running without wire ovehead?
@@DeafDiver All the wiring is running underground. Check out Skooled Zone's wiring video to see the methodology: ruclips.net/video/3TIo77uMUxc/видео.html
Chemalot genius
28:30 crazy I added a sink there too. I was wondering if I added it or it came with the settlement. Now I know, haha.
way cooler than diamond city
Thank you so much for watching and the kind comment! :)
28:30 i ended up putting a cooking station there where the stove is, then I added a chemistry station since it had a sink, also rug glitched a Nuka drink maker in there, that spot is the first thing im working on and its supposed to be a little Nuka Bar
Love turning that into a bar! :)
This is absolutely amazing! I’m just wondering, how do you get the greenhouse style walls? I’ve looked, and I can’t find them. I’ve got all the DLC, is it like glitched?
Man a Starlight this full, even w/out mods, would break my XS😃
Yeah, I had to stop myself from building because three size bars is usually about where the Playstation breaks a settlement. :(
Cool settlements you build, did you do one for Hansman's Alley?
Creation Club is NOT mods. All CC creations already exist on your FO files, they're simply locked behind a pay wall. Achievements aren't even disturbed using CC so have at it, still counts as no mods.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Yeah, I know technically they're not mods, but apparently (long before I got into FO4) there was a big debate over whether CC was "paid mods". Part of the reason I avoid using them in these builds is to avoid that debate. That said, there will come a time where I will begin using CC settlement objects to build (likely on my next play through). :)
@@BWTF_Ben that paid mods debate wasn’t about whether Creation Club literally counted as modded or vanilla content. It was a negative backlash on the fans’ part due to Bethesda hiring outside creators to sell content rather than do it themselves.
After all this years i still like videos about settlements in Fallout 4. I like this startlight-settlement, some nice ideas. But one thing bothers me - why a main-gate, if everything is totally open for the surrounding nature and raiders? ;-)
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! The main gate does have security, but its main purpose is more like a "welcome center". There are guards on the sides and back too. I'm not big into the "walled off city" thing, though I do it here and there in my settlements if it strikes my fancy. :)
Great builds! Do the rocket launchers still kill settlers?
All this on a PS 4? Good for you. A fellow PS4 here.
This was PS4, yes. I'm currently building on PS5 and it's a much less crash-y experience!
I once built a city in Drive In Starlight; a bunch of wooden apartments and shops grappling around and over the concrete walls of the center arena, where a deathclaw was supposed to fight against raiders, soldiers and slaves.
Unfortunately, due to the loose mechanisms of the game, the deathclaw was roaming around the settlement, instead of staying trapped between the four walls.
So disappointing!!
How do you glitch these stores with the shutters into the warehouse walls?! Any how-to references you can share? I'm driving myself mad trying to get it to work.
Careful use of the Rug Glitch. You can see Skooled Zone's very detailed video on the glitch here: ruclips.net/video/tKLNPicHmBU/видео.html. Different stores act differently with the glitch so it will take a lot of tries to get it right.
This is really awesome. With no mods, how did you deal with the skeletons?
Thanks for watching and commenting! I used (I think a typewriter) to move them out to the edges of the settlement. They're still around, but out of the way. :)
I have just finished my Starlight build. Love yours almost as much as mine. Feel free to give your opinion on my little Manhattan Project
Thanks for visiting. Feel free to link to your build here and I'll check it out.
Hi hope someone can answer this because i'm very curious ... how do you get cats for your settlement without mods? amazing build btw
Thanks for watching Lola! Cats can be captured with cat cages. They came with Wasteland Workshop: fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Cage_(Wasteland_Workshop)
@@BWTF_Ben oh perfect thanks! and they'll just stay in the area after you capture them? will they stay by cat bowls?
@@lola2542 They hang out around the cat bowl. That said, if you *don't* have a cat bowl in the settlement I believe they just wander around (though I have not tested this yet).
How did you get the red rocket gas sign you used for the Fusion Row base, into starlight drive-in?
It should be under Decorations->Misc. fallout.wiki/wiki/Red_Rocket_Gas_Sign
@@BWTF_Ben I see. I guess I never noticed it before.😬
Wish I had a pc. On ps4 you can only decorate to a certain leverl. Shelves can only be decorated on the second and third row top down
Same. I've seen incredible builds on PCs that would make my PS5 melt down!
Should've made the guns above the docs room syringer rifles 😂
Hey, how did you put a car on a floor, as you did in the atomic cats building or as it was in smiling larry's garage?
I pushed it using a gun up the ramp and it took a lot of careful poking and positioning after that. :) You can see the video I learned the method from here: ruclips.net/video/PWbYIRw-fVc/видео.html
@@BWTF_Ben thankyou 🙏🏼
One last thing: how did you make a npc stand without moving away, like an invisible guard post, in Smiley Larry's garage?
how do u get picket fences to work? i see no different in workshop when i access the building mode
I'm unclear on what you are asking. Do you mean how to use them? Please feel free to give me a time stamp to reference. Thx for watching. :)
You gotta give me your PSN lol so we can talk in Party and you can show me stuff. Love this channel because you’re so lucrative and creative

If the car in your settlement is blown up, will you have to reload your save or will the car be restored after some time?
This is a good question! I've never tested this out.
Where'd you get those blue lights?
I saw a comment asking about the potted plants. Here are deets from the Wiki: fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Potted_plant
Man, makes me look like a chump.
My original settlements were...not great. :) It takes time and even I consider myself average at best. There are other builders who are absolute MASTERS and I try to learn from them.
For some reason it won't let me build there
How did you manage to build this without going over the settlement size limit?
I talk about that in this video: ruclips.net/video/FSfmgDLqaY4/видео.htmlsi=9ISuEsohaSd9V6XJ
How did you run the power to each establishment

Joint settlement between the Minutemen and Railroad...but there's a Brotherhood flag out front? 🤔
Oh wow, good eye! I totally put the wrong flag up there. My bad.
@@BWTF_Ben Woops haha. It's funny too, because the settlement overall has great attention to detail, and then the Brotherhood flag is just sitting out there in the front :P.
All jokes aside, this settlement is really impressive and realistic, especially for an unmodded one. Well done!
@@alpacalover0 It's a good demonstration of how things can go wrong when you build while half asleep after midnight. :D I appreciate the kind words and thank you for watching! :)
Where purifiers can't be placed on the ground.
So long as you have a water source, you build the purifier inside of it. Then pillar glitch the purifier, move it and you sink it into the ground.
No mods? Really?
That is correct. :)
Too bad guard post dont have a mn browning m240 pkm or dishka.
With no mods how did you build 3x the size??
Pick up any large weapons or any weapons and armor from defeated enemies carry as much as you can or over encumber your follower by making them pick them all up in command mode. Come back to the settlement and drop all of them on the ground, go into Workshop mode and then either store or scrap all of them. Settlements as large as Starlight Drive might take a few rounds of dropping for the bar to go down. BUTTT! you have to be careful you could probably only fill the bar 3 times before it starts getting glitchy or crashing when you walk into the settlement.
Check out Skooled Zone's video on this: ruclips.net/video/b4WeRjEXUWU/видео.htmlsi=AwtU_LXyxFqUQ8LJ
This works, I been doing this since my 1st playthrough (which is now) and I found this out early on but didn't know, so my starlight drive in is huge but I thought only because I had what I need to make it. Didn't know there was a limit but the glith works just don't do it too much. Wait between then do it. 👍
