  • Once a stop along the Boston transportation hub, Oberland Station is now a settlement run by former Raiders. Following the events of "Open Season", these ex-Raiders have decided to turn over a new leaf and live a relatively peaceful life.
    This build was done on Playstation 5 using the "Game of the Year" edition. No building mods were used. The only mods I have are Creation Club skins which you will see on armor, clothing and the dog in the settlement. If you have any questions about something you see (especially how to do something without mods) please feel free to ask in the comments below.

    Benson, I just discovered your channel a little over two weeks ago. My father passed suddenly not long after, and as weird as it sounds, your soothing videos have been a helpful thing for me the last few weeks. The music, your calming voice, and the distraction of seeing your organic and well thought out builds has been a comfort to me. It’s such a thing now that my husband will enter the room, hear your voice and say, “hanging with Benson?”. I know, sounds weird… but it’s true. I’m so happy to see you back to building in fallout 4, and really look forward to seeing more of your builds. You have a great eye and your creativity is very inspiring.

    I love the idea that raiders can redeem themselves. After killing so many raiders, I kinda felt like a mass murderer. Granted, they were still a blight on the Commonwealth, but still people. What an inspiring settlement build. I wish Todd Howard made an actual city of former raiders. Along with side quests, lore, etc. Kinda like Diamond City.

    The bathtub is such a genius detail! I never know what to do with the bathtub, as its an awkward piece of furniture that doesn't feel 'clean' enough that I'd want my settlers to use it anyway. So putting the raw ingredients in it is very clever, such a neat detail! Lovely video :) - Lois

      @ghostdesign-ue4604 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@theinsaneshecklador6598 Oh i didn´t know that, thanks or the tip. In this case it won´t help, it´s the sheer size of the settlement, it´s simply too big. It was always my "problem". I can´t build small :)

    • @theinsaneshecklador6598
      @theinsaneshecklador6598 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@ghostdesign-ue4604 There was a point in this video where Benson mentioned "Three size bars." That means he used the weapon drop trick twice to be able to build three times the normal limit. Start building much more than that and things can get buggy.
      As I mentioned all you have to do is drop weapons on the ground and then store them in the workbench. The size bar will slowly start to drop with each weapon you store. It may take a few to notice the effect. Gamma guns are by far the most efficient, so save the ones you find. Any weapon, even the lowliest pipe pistol or switchblade, will work. They will just be slower.

    1:20 The Third Rail is one of my favorite areas in all of Fo4. Good spot to draw inspiration from.
    3:41 Lureweed must be a rare one for the people of the Commonwealth. Traders need to make quite the journey to source that.
    7:52 Nice use of that reflector platform. Don't see that utilized very often.
    13:23 Are the broom and mop Mr. Miyagi style training aids? Mop the floor left hand, sweep the floor right hand.
    14:53 lol
    21:50 Now I kinda want to build an alternating neon sign for Snack Shack with the N and H alternating.
    23:50 For a split second I thought the market sign was in the trees which could be a cool design choice in a future build somewhere.

I’m ok at the workbench but go past the build limit and I literally have to crawl lol. I’ve learnt ALOT regarding building manufacturing in the Lair, and weirdly it kinda fits the Lore as it looks a total bloody mess with conveyors everywhere and just two forges running 🤣 But if you don’t scrap all the walkways it’s bleeding tight to get everything cobbled in a ‘working’ condition 😂

      I will be doing a walk through of the Lair soon, just trying to see how much else I can shoe-horn in, because I’m still learning about the bloody conveyors etc it looks like it’s been ‘chucked’ together by a total nutjob. So hence the introduction of ‘Pineccine Bob’! A self-proclaimed ghoul “expert” of manufacturing that convinced the Minutemen to give him the job of converting the place. Unfortunately his only experience of anything mechanical was trying to renovate GiddyUps for Arlen to sell at The Slog. And rather badly. Under pressure to deliver the goods, his panicked cobbling has resulted in just two forges but a host of crazy conveyors.
      One of the other ghoul ‘techs’ has started a side-line running tours to feed her Sugar Bomb addiction 🤣

    I like how you used your structures to make Oberland Station's walls. I used the Fallout Coniferous Revival (FCR) mod by Silverfox600 to replicate a Commonwealth that has over the past two centuries began to recover from the the bombings. I used Prypiat, Nagasaki, Heroshima and to a limited degree Fukashima as inspirations. The damage from the meltdown at Fukashima is still recent enough that it will take decades more to recover to where background radiation is within safe zones/ limits for human occupation, but according to some reports I recently saw it is dropping. Prypiat is nearing safe levels too, but I think Ukraine is going to let it be a ghost town as a reminder of what happens when men ignore danger signs. There are some weird mutations in the wildlife even the dogs who've now been feral for several generations and though in some of the videos I've seen there have not been a real world analog to Radstags or Brahmen there have been mutations appearing amongst the native deer and other game animals.

      Thank you! I don't generally do the "wall in the entire settlement" thing anymore since it doesn't really help for defense (and I tend to go way over the build limit). :D Using actual buildings as a perimeter instead works better for me even if there are gaps here and there.

    Looks nice. What I always do, when I play without non official mods, even of it clashes with the settlement style, is using nuclear reactors to power my settlements, as they are silent. I glitch them in somewhere where they can't disrupt the style and be happy. I mean, think about the poor settlers. All that constant noise...

    Another great video. How do you get around the limits of settlement building? I have a build going on at Oberland and nowhere near as detailed or filled in as you have and I am at my limit. I had to scrap some defenses in order to build beds for new arrivals. I can't even add more food. It is very frustrating to say the least. Thanks for your efforts. I just don't know how you do this with no mods like unlimited building.

    How do you get it so big without exceeding allowable space?

    • @BWTF_Ben
      @BWTF_Ben  2 месяца назад

      From time to time in my videos you'll hear me reference how many "build bars" or "size bars" the settlement is made of. That's because I employ the settlement size glitch to build. In general this involves dropping items to the ground (generally weapons, the Gamma Gun works best) and storing them in the workshop. That brings the build bar size down. *However* this also taxes the memory. Generally once I hit about 3 bars worth of space the settlements get unstable. You can see Skooled Zone's video on this here: ruclips.net/video/sDza5oblD1g/видео.htmlsi=CwajTV_60cD0_i-C

    You might wanna be a bit more efficent and install "Move Workshop Markers", load
    markers and move said attack markers, so you don't waste time by planting crops and other destructible items where the game will spawn a flusterluck of Mutants randomly.
    Yes the vanilla spawn mechanics suck and why they put attack points in the ***** middle of some settlements doesn't make any sense. Without mods its impossible to figure out exactly where the attack originates i.e very inefficent.
    Alternative watch Oxhorns video where he shows every spawn point including Far Harbor.
    One spawn point is just to the left of the orange container btw and only the machine gun turret have a somewhat effective placement.
    Lore friendly stuff looks the best, but when it comes to settlement attacks, having enough turrets where they simply shred any hostiles is more fun and efficient in my opinion.
