- My brother Max and I hiked part of the Ganaraska trail through Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial. It took us 3 days and close to 60km to hike the section of trail from Devils lake to Victoria Falls. It was bushy, mucky and at times difficult but the beautiful and serenity of this place made the experience well worth it.

Question from a rookie who always wanted to start canoeing and backcountry camping: how do you navigate through secluded areas such as the provincial parks like Algonquin/Kawartha/QEII? Map and compass, or a GPS? How would you make sure you won't get lost out there?
Bring a GPS but also go on short trips using a map and compass to get familiar with land nav. Dont only rely on your GPS
i found one in the middle of a desert in peru. humans are weird monkeys to bring stuff somewhere...

Your 60 k trip reminds me of one I did with my brother 2 years ago in fall , he came from Belgium , his new country for the last 30 years , and we went for that hike for 4 days here in Québec , great memories ! I saw that you and your brother got wet on that swampy terrain and all those beaver dams crossing . I'm keeping in mind that tarp setup at the end , could be usefull one day .
