I returned to this review after your recent ECBP B524 review. I passed on it to get a Booker's Beam House Batch, and I think I'm glad I did. 🥃 Opening this and the Booker's for this Father's Day. Salud! 🥃🥃🥃
I love ECBP, I feel like I'll find this one in the shelf because people will think the quality dropped, but you know the flippers love high age statement big brands. Still think it's a great value, full proof, over 10 year legendary distillery.
Found this yesterday finally after a couple year hiatus. ECBP is a lot harder to find than 4 years ago but honestly I really liked this one. Best I’ve had since B520
I will look for and buy all 3 yearly offerings of Elijah Craig BP and Larceny BP. I even liked the A223 Bernheim BP. My EC BP favorites have been B521, C922 and A123. 🥃 add some water or ice to B523.
As I trust your word, I cracked the $69 EC B523 today, and decided to keep the EC A123 bunkered. Thanks again for your honest and accurate review. The wood note on this one is strong and I agree slightly bitter. I really do like it, but yeah the first sip was hot and spicy and hit that flap in my throat for a little cough lol! I suspect this will mellow out and open up with a little air in the bottle also. I'm glad I opened the EC B523 to just drink and enjoy and hopefully saved the better release for later days. Cheers Jason!
“Bunkered” one of the cringe words of the bourbon world. I’ll agree I have one B520 that I haven’t opened yet and it’s the best I’ve ever had of all the ECBP series.
B520 was killer, I am happy I still got a bottle, C919 was amazing as well. I only had a dram of that. Personally I like the B520 a tad better than C919. Another sleeper people overlook is B519. The dark chocolate covered cherry notes were deadly.
I have 1 unopened B520 that I will NOW hold on to based on HH's decision......Unless they come out with one that compares or exceeds it. I'll still buy everyone of them.
I’m waiting patiently for this to drop in PA so I can review as well but let’s face it this is a big downward trend for ECBP no matter what my guess they give us this almost 12yr the C923 is supposed to be 13yrs I bet next year will see some 8-9yr
Based on this review and others for me the B523 is likely a skip mainly due to A123 being in almost perfect alignment with my taste preferences. I have already bought 3 backups of A123 and may do more. It's just than darn good!
A123 is up there with some of the best ECBP I've tried. Definitely since 2019 or 2020. It felt like a return to EC of old and they conjured up a batch that is exactly what I want. Can't agree more!
@@jskypercussionI still have an unopened bottle of b519. Looked it up online, and it’s going for $500 on a few sites. I liked the ‘19 bottles as well, I think they had the best flavor profiles.
Hey I just bought Elijah Craig barrel proof B522 121 proof and the 12 yr non chill filtered statement is on this bottle. Lots of caramel & sweetness delicious a bit ethanol but at 121 proof the flavors are still wonderful. In upstate NY I paid $95.99 plus tx

With all the super delicious single barrels I think ECBP proved the 12 year wasn’t needed. I have a couple of each age stated single barrels (8,9,10&11) and there are some monsters in there. Wish it was maintaining the 12 but it’s not the end of the world.
Still will buy it if I see it and it's 70 dollars Elijah Craig is on my shelf as is all the major brands. Makers Woodford WT. Is the age statement a huge deal not as long as they don't continue to go down I think that would have a negative impact on their sales. Great content keep us updated as you find out what you can.
I personally welcome the age variations that is going to be a norm. I find it funny that a lot of folks became hysterical when ECBP started lowering their ABV and now the age range. Im going to continue to buy ECBP because its damn good bourbon, priced right, and it is widely avaliable in my neck of the woods. Unlike other tater distilleries that people dont seem to mind that dont offer age transparency... BT
My local had B523, and right next to it an ECSB Store pick with a 9yr age statement on it. I went with the store pick & the last toasted barrel they had. Haven’t heard great things about B523 but may pick it up anyway
Probably not a fair comparison because it's a neck-pour of the B523 vs a third-of-the-bottle-left pour of my B520, but the B520 is head & shoulders above the B523. I get a stronger peanut note on the B523 but that's the only positive. Hoping it'll open up a bit with time. Still a very decent bourbon at MSRP. Great review as always Jason! Edit: Half an hour later, still preferring the B520 but just want to reiterate that the B523 is a great bourbon. Paid $61.99 + rapacious WA state taxes, zero complaints!
I picked up a second bottle last Wednesday. My first one is opening up a bit starting to get a grandmas oatmeal raisin cookie off it. I even tried it with an ice cube & the heat didn’t go away. Still pretty satisfied with the batch. Cheers 🥃
Hello, this is ECBP going into the dumpster. I recently opened an old pirate bottle from 2013 that i had in the bunker. … guess what- Its been in the shitter even with the 12 yr age statement since the change to the new bottle design. The ECBP 2013 blows the doors off anything ive had in an ECBP bottle for the last 5 years. The 2013 ECBP compares with the the complexity and intensity (and deliciousness) to the GTS bottlings of back then (haven’t had any new GTS either that I liked either), tbh
$79.99 around here I still think it's a great value for money. I do not mind. 11.5 years doesn't drive me crazy at all. It still has an age statement. A lot of bourbon for that money has none and they are not that good. Oh one more thing you did make me buy zibioticz lol.
And it was even said that 11.5 years was the age of the youngest barrel used. All of the neckbeards and Chads crying about that half of a year really need to get a grip.
Have you tried the EC Private Barrel BP dropped in Ohio? The bottle I saw was age stated at 9 yo. And they were $85! I passed hoping to score the regular ECBP B523 but maybe I should reconsider.
