Any time I hear “molasses” and “pecans” in a bourbon profile, it is an instant buy. Good bourbons have vanilla, caramel and oak. Great ones have molasses and pecans.

Jim Beam and Heaven Hill have so much higher age stock, that they can put out older Bourbons without having to charge a fortune for or have crazy allocation. When you see what they both put out constantly compared to something like BTAC, both JB and HH are so underrated.

Not only older, but they can get away with putting them out at barrel proof in a high enough quantity that the prices aren't crazy
I just opened one yesterday...and compared it to the A123,which was my favorite of the year...the c923 has almost all of the flavor, but has a more dense coating/consistency, making the A123 feel thin. The C923 is valid. Jason is spot on with Bourbon of the year contender, and to me, one of the best bourbon I've tasted..maybe ever...if there is a better more luxurious, velvety bourbon...please advise.
I was at a barrel pick a few months ago, and I talked to the HH employee about the age statement. She told us that ECBP was getting a bit "flat" because of it's age statement. That's why they decided to go with a variable age so they can get more uniqueness out of each batch and not be forced into a static age statement. I can say that tasting experience sure made me think they were on to something. Can't wait to get my hands on a couple of bottles of this (I always buy at least 2 of each batch, sometimes more).

That "static age statement" argument doesn't really make sense though. When bottles are tagged with an age statement, that means the youngest whiskey in there must meet that age, but they can absolutely throw any mix of older juice in as much as they want. The only real reason to kill the old 12 year age statement is because they wanted to mix in younger juice
@sirjcc They don't want to be tied to having to have 12 yr if an 11 or 10 yr has the special taste. in thr blend they're looking for.
Our barrel pick was an 8 yr, 126 proof bourbon and it was clearly the best we had out of older and higher proof barrels. We had no idea on age or proof until after we were done. Dropping the static age statement gives them the flexibility to do with it what they want. Judge the product by tatse, not age. If they start turning out garbage, then I'll be one of the 1st to call them out.

Great video and assessment of EJC923, I found a bottle here in the NE for 79 bucks. On the hunt now for another, EJ has always been one of my favorites and love barrel proof! Keep up the great tastings, cheers!
This will be a great one for the holiday season. Pecan pie, caramel, like the frosting on a German chocolate cake. Had a just a little taste of it, on the hunt now. Need 2 for home plus a couple for Christmas gifts.
Finally landed in Idaho and man I totally agree with all this. I'm an ECBP fan boy- buy one and a back up when I can, this one I'll probably try to get a few back-ups.
Ah man, there goes my bourbon budget! I MUST find a couple of these! I recently bought my first ECBP, B523 and it is amazing. I can only imagine how C923 will be!
I had this one last night and the best way I can describe it is to say that it tastes like what I imagine Elijah Craig 18 should have tasted like. It's *old*. Such a special batch.

Well, now I am super Duper happy that I totally lucked out and got a bottle at $108 from the small mom and Pop store where the guy forgot that he had C923 in stock.
I was on the lookout since this video dropped. Just got it at retail in VA. Looking forward to it!

Just found this one today after calling about 20 stores, then visiting some familiar haunting grounds. All the notes from the review are there. I’ll just add that there’s a musty oak finish that comes through well after the last sip, reminiscent of the B520/C920 hitters from yesteryear. Cheers Jay. 🥃

Found a bottle of this today. Cracked it open and was so impressed I ran back to store for couple backups! This the best ECPB release in many years IMO. Best value in the market.

I will definitely keep my eyes open for this one, Man the stores are going to hype up the price, usually we get them pretty fast in the New Jersey, New York area (typically around $79 to $89) Jason, thank you man for your honest review. I just started picking up ECBPs this year so I'll be looking for this one, too. Not always easy to find in NC.
I had this Saturday night at the Green Lady Lounge in KC and let it air after a few sips and it was good. I agree on a few drops of water to proof it down and see how it changes but I really liked it after letting it sit for a bit. Definitely adding to my A and B.

Tried this yesterday at my buddies house, OMG it was amazing, a big sweet oaky cherry bomb, the proof was there but didn’t bother me. The more I sipped it the better it got. We enjoyed two pours, one neat, one with a few drops of water. Went to ABC store today and they had three bottles. Oh yes I bought one and my buddy got another one. Going back tomorrow , hopefully they still have one left. It is simply a fantastic pour. Your review was great as always.
I gave up on regular batch releases but always try and pick up any store pick I see. They have great barrels, it’s just harder to blend that kind of volume for a regular release and it be great.

Thanks for another great video/review. I’m pretty unlucky when it comes to finding great bottles at msrp. I live in Florida but i’m in south Jersey on a family vaca. Did a little hunting at the local liquor store and got a Bookers, Little Book, and that bad boy all for msrp. To say I was excited would be an understatement!

I live in the boonies, so my liquor store is an hour away. But it sells ECBP for $60, limit 1 per. I have 9 batches, earliest B519, but it’s hit and miss when I can stop in. Sure hope I can get this one-sounds amazing!

ECBB made me a believer. Passed on it for a couple yrs cause my pallet doesn't like the small batch. I finally bought a bottle back in the spring at a bourbon drop and the juice is great. Already grabbed a backup!! Sip it on it once a week.
Im not a big EC fan either. This may be the 1st in my collection. My brother always buys them amd ive just never liked it enough to get my own. Some of the BP store picks are good. I jus dont like the nuttiness in heaven hill products

I found a couple old Knob Creek dusties the last couple-few weeks. The limited release rye from 2018 (batch 1) and 2019 (batch 2) at $65 they are amazing. Especially batch 2. My bro and i found batch 2 about 3 weeks ago (we were together but he found it n bought it) and we were blown away to even find it, especially at the store we did cause its a very popular store. Then almost 2 weeks ago i found a store that had batch 1 and batch 2 for 70 so i grabbed batch 1. Then the other day found another store that has 3 bottles of batch 2. Im going back for 1 maybe 2 of those. They're both really good, but batch 2 is just absolutely phenomenal. Still waiting for batch 1 to open up a bit more, but i dont think its going to be as good as batch 2.
Got lucky and got one, it was a good haul as I also got a four roses store pick and four gate amburana finish
Haven't had C923 yet but I've had a Blue Note Juke Joint Uncut with a lot of pecan and molasses. That might be a good alternative.

ECBP drop randomness; I still haven’t seen an A123 till last week. Was about a case on the shelf next to a case of C922. 🤨
Of course I grabbed the A123 and the KC SP next to it tho.
I had the good fortune of getting a case of C923. Calling it now... this one is going to go down as one of the most revered and coveted ECBP to date and the foreseeable future. The value off the age statement and proof alone are extraordinary. People lost their minds when EC said they were dropping their 12 year age statement in favor of more dynamic releases. C923 laughs at the naysayers and those who called this as the end times for ECBP. This truly might be one of the best sub-$100 bottles you can buy.
I poured OGD 114 over a block of ice tonight & amazed how it smoothed it out & made the flavors stand out even better 🤯🥃

This might be the first bourbon I buy and I back up if I see them at retail.
Last 2 batches I was able to get 4 between 70-85 tacos 2 were for friends this batch if I get 4 they are all for me

Coming back to this video, I have a few notes:
1. This was THE BEST batch of the year, if not since the 2020 batches.
2. Since the C batches are often considered the best of the year, I’m gonna go out on a limb and speculate if ECBP C924 is going to be an even higher age statement to combat the Russell’s 15 soon to be released this year. WT puts that out, then HH says “Hold my beer!” That’d be brutal!
Retail is almost hundo for ECBP in AZ...don't know why.
Im not big heaven hill/EC BP fan (dont like the nutty notes), but this is one i just may have to buy. Ill let my brother buy it 1st so i can try before i buy lol. Hopefully the Larceny is as good or better than the b523 as well. Now that i think about it, in my almost 100 bottle collection, i have not 1 EC, and only 1 Larceny, c922. Not that i cant get them, my brother usually does, im just not a big fan of a lot of their stuff. Some of their BP store picks are good, when they arent real nutty. This may be the 1st EC in my collection.

I buy backups if I can, I don’t always get lucky enough to see 2 bottles. Hopefully I can get this bottle. I’ll be in Kentucky in about a week and I have 2 visits to the distillery hopefully I can snag a bottle.

a123 was the first I’ve ever tried. Wasn’t my favorite. I skipped B523. Maybe I’ll get the C
@WombatAnnihilator It is probably a good idea if you like ECBP to get both the "B" and "C" versions. The profile of each of th3 three batches has been pretty consistent and then you can focus on that batch annually and possibly splurge when a great find for another batch. Or go broke between ECBP &ECPB.

I’ll grab one to try, and if it hits my palate the way it hit yours, I’ll probably bunker a case. These tend to be easy to get and plentiful in my area.

Ya since c922 i have been seeing them pretty often. Except Larceny a123. Still never seen that one anywhere, but i can still find c922 and b532 at a few places. A123 never came around here. The EC BP a123 did, just not the Larceny. So weird how that happened... or didnt happen haha
I’ve never had a problem finding any batch of ECBP at retail here in the Pasadena, Ca area. Takes a little bit of looking, but not much.
To me this will be a real marker for where the bourbon market is at the moment. If this becomes unobtainable below, say, $200 it will indicate that we are years from a cooling off. I’m hoping not. I’ve pretty much given up on the chasing game.
Ya ive seen c922 and everything since from both Larceny and EC BP at many places, except Larceny a123. Can still find c922 and b523 at a few places, EC BP A123 was easy enough for awhile, but never once seen Larceny a123 here in Boston MA. So weird that one never got here but all the others have been plentiful at SRP, or maybe $5-10 more at some places
