I was recently in my local liquor store in Fenton Michigan and they had a store pick, Mammoth Northern Rye. He let me try an open bottle in the back and I was TOTALLY sold! It's a single barrel, 132 proof and aged 16 years for $95. I don't have many good bottles to compare it with, but it sure blows the socks off bottles like Jack Daniels single barrel BP and Elijah Craig A123. It's nothing like any other ryes I've tried, sweeter and less spicy, hard to explain just hands down the best whiskey I've ever had and everyone I've let try it agrees. If anyone is ever in Fenton, stop into Merchant's Gourmet Wine and grab a bottle while they last.

I had noticed some black label High West Double Rye bottles at a local gas station several months ago. Wasn't a real fan of their regular double rye, so didn't pay much attention. But after seeing you video, I decided to give it a chance and bought a bottle. It was a Moscatel barrel finish. Went home and tried it. It was very good. ...so I went back to that gas station and bought the rest. lol Wish is was higher proof, but it taste great.

There are small stores that have Rebel 10 and High West Bourye on their shelves in Texas. I would love to find a small cache of plastic top Early Times BIB in a small shop in Texas. We know. We all know that the black plastic top is the better of the two. I can't bring myself to buy another blue metal cap bottle. "findable" is very relative to demand/secondary market pricing. A buddy called me today from Buffalo NY because he found a Jack 12 ($500) and a Jack double barreled ($600) and was surprised when I said "not a chance." I really wish there was a way the tiered system had a limit in place, like they can't charge more than like 2x msrp...

My understanding is that all distilleries do a full reverse osmosis (RO) filtration and then reintroduce minerals that interact well with the product. Different additives for different products. Same for beer, soft drinks, and bottled water. It’s why Dasani tastes different than Poland Springs or Fiji. Just my two cents! 😊

      isnt the 15 $129? 16 is usually $150+

@@FriarPopi got mine for 128. It was 150, dropped to 128 for some reason so i bought it, week later it was back to 150

@@FriarPop yeah i share the same opinion. For 150 would be the second most id spent on a bottle, and i just couldnt justify it. 128 i could swallow.

About to view this now. Going to guess beforehand the bottles. OF1910, OF1920, Calumet 16, WT Rare Breed, WT Rare Breed Rye, Sagamore 8 Year, Four Roses Single Barrel, Bardstown Origins (all of them)

Bardstown Origin Series are all great IMO, especially at that price point. WT Rare Breed is a given too. Can't wait to open my Calumet (14, 15 & 16) ...just too many bottles open right now. LOL.

Had a poor Double Rye Store pick (Ohio: Spanish Brandy finish). Just muted and grapey. Love High West, love Double Rye… but this bottle was bad enough that I would take the standard double rye, or certainly New Riff standard rye, or especially New New Riff 6 year malted rye over that store pick any day.

I feel like the store picks being bad is few and far between honestly

@@BourbonJunkies I can’t argue with that, I like High West stuff overall. And it could be just my personal taste with this particular barrel finish.

I think almost any whiskey that is MSRP in the 150-250 range is not going to hard to find, lol. Its the whiskeys that msrp in 60-100 range but get marked up on secondary market that are hard to find.
