Everyone is different for sure I thought B523 was decent but fell short of other recent releases C923 is a class above the B523 for me but for msrp all of them are a buy
Well, now I’m happy that I got the C9 23 batch at $108 all in from a small mom and pop shop a couple of weeks ago. They had them behind a 124 so I got lucky. Thanks for the honest comparison.

Wow, you haven't had ECBP B520. That's been my favorite thus far of the ECBPs. Haven't had C920, but everything else since.
Yeah unfortunately never had one older than C920 wish I had a B520 I always hear good things about it
@@bourbonbill I jumped on that and managed to back up B520 rather well. I could send you a sample if you'd like. From your review, I can see myself securing a few bottles of C923 when it hits stores up here in NY. I always grab the ECBPs as well as the Larceny barrel proofs and Stagg (formerly Jr.).
So apparently there are some discrepancy in the C923 batch. The laser codes on the back indicate a serial number break with the first three being A22 or A23. Apparently laser codes being in the A23 range are much better that the A22 range.
Can you please post your laser code?
I checked and it’s A23 maybe why I liked it so much if that’s the better of the two
Those are Julian date codes for the day it was bottled, though you need the next 3 #s also. If you provide the 5 digit date codes for both bottles, I can tell you the exact day they were bottled.
If it's 1 day apart (like my 2 LBP B523), it's very unlikely that it's different whiskey in each bottle. There are about 1000 barrels for the batch & and may not bottle all that in one day.

@@SRVandDtrouble Only had the neck pour on fresh crack so far, so will have to try a cpl more times, but it was similar profile to A124, with less spice. Those are the only 2 LBP I have had. Was tasting it next to ECBP B523 & on 1st taste, prefer the LBP. Makes me wish I opted for the ECBP A123. Could not find C923 & itching to get something.. Was able to sample a 9yr store pick of ECBP that was $90+ tax & that had a ton of alcohol heat on the palate, which I didn't like... The JD Brl Prf I have is Ok on the palate, but after 3-4 sips the alcohol burn on the finish gets so intense, it becomes undrinkable, so guessing it's not much over 2yrs, like the Old No 7. That's the only Brl Prf (or any) whiskey that I experienced that with.
C923 doesn’t touch Stagg batch 18…. Come on bro

The Craigs go bad imo because of the cork/bottle design, so it doesn't really surprise me that a 3 year old bottle didn’t hold up to what you remembered it being. Also, not a bad thing that ECBP C923 narrowily lost out to RR13. RR13 is amazing and one of the best I have ever tried (Batch 3)
Interesting take the corks are a little skinny so maybe that’s it for sure. And yeah C923 is still a banger because RR13 is fighting for whiskey of the year

Just picked up the C923 in NJ as well. What a phenomenal value pour. Put it up again C922 and my store pick of JDSBBP as well last night with C923 coming on top.

The Kroger by me got a few cases of this at $120 a bottle and they were gone in minutes
120 seems steep but when you consider its over 13,5 yrs old and 133 proof that price isn't ridiculous. The hype is real on this bottle
@@bourbonbill I felt exactly the same way. What other bourbon can you get with those stats for anything even close to $120? And not even just having the stats, but actually tasting delicious too

You're pretty good at correctly guessing the bottles! You do better at that than most of the other channels - which is why I'd like to see you in Matt Madness.
Haha would love to compete. I mean I knew what was in the blind and I’ve had all those before but I did pretty good. It’s way harder when it’s double blind though

I haven’t bought a current ECBP for the past 2 1/2 years. Finally one worth buying. I agree, this won’t become a regular thing, maybe one out of every six batches will be this good. Most will continue to be under 11 yrs old and less than 124 proof and not really wow us taste wise.
Haha that’s right it’s all hot news lol. But yeah I think Heaven Hill let us down a little with B523 and then realized they needed a hitter so they released this C923 but I bet A and B batch next year are average at best and C will come out swinging again or something like that pattern

Haven’t had the B520 myself I hear that’s a good one. C920 is good but it falls way short to me now it’s not carrying the sweeter old aged oak note I love more on C923 and others

RR13 is actually Batch 4. WT said to bottling dates but same juice.
I did read that but since the laser codes are different I think everyone will continue to call it batch 5 just to have a running list of the laser codes. I guess we could call it RR13 batch 4 A lol

Larceny C923 is amazing
I haven’t tried or seen the latest larceny batch. So far though besides the LBP C923 I think Larceny C922 was the high point
@@bourbonbill I’ve did comparison of Knob creek BP vs ECBP vs Larceny and my winner was Larceny but again I like wheated bourbon so might be a preference. Those who like rye might like the ECBP more.
@@keithrezendes6913 yeah LBP is great stuff but sounds like you are definitely a huge wheater fan. I lean more KC and ECBP in preference but im a big fan of the makers specials as well as the wilderness trail wheated cask strength picks
Its funny cause the B series this year was one of their worst barrel proofs to date, and then right after that, they release one of their best batches ever
Yeah for sure i think they were banking on a hitter especially after they got rid of the 12yr age statement and then B523 wasn’t as good younger they got a lot of hate
Was it really that bad, or was it just the reaction to dropping the age statement? I have three private selection ECBP single barrels that are 9-10 years old and crush many of the standard 12 year releases.
