One of the many TOOL songs where you don't try to catch the beat, but let the beat catch you.
This is next level Tool in terms of "easy listening". It's one of their more taxing in terms of getting ahold of the melody, if you will. To a broken in Tool ear, it's somewhat expected, but you handled it like a pro...well done!
Time signature is the amount of beats in a measure of music and it's hard to lock onto especially when most of the music that you grew up listening to is a steady 4/4 time signature. Tempo is the speed of the beat.
I saw tool live in Grand Rapids, MI. It was the best concert I ever went to. They have a live performance of Jambi on RUclips that's really good.
If you like tool, you gotta listen to "46 and 2" and "lateralus"
So, the "brothers" line has been sung in concert a few times, so certain lyric channels assumed it was paramount. But it's usually "lovers" twice. I feel like Maynard meant that as an occasional nod to his bandmates.

Tempo is how fast or slow a song is played. Meter/time signature is how many beats are in section of music and note value that’s counted as a beat.
Examples of common meters are 4/4, 3/4. Example of odd meters like tool uses can be 5/4, 7/8, 9/8, 7/4 etc.
Most songs especially in mainstream music has only one time signature(meter) from beginning to end. Bands like Tool can have a lot of meter changes throughout the song.

Tool has a very unique style of changing time but the bottom tempo still stays the same so if you by chance smack your left leg at one speed and then smack your right leg at a different speed by keeping your left leg tempo the same that's what time signature changes are it's like patting your head and rubbing your stomach.

Just an FYI... Tempo and time signature are two very different things. Time signiture tells you HOW to count, Tempo tells how FAST to count.
The underlying tempo actually never changes (even during the slow breakdowns), but you have to keep the tempo yourself. The instruments do polyrhythms around it on purpose, but the tempo stays the same.

But after you listen to it several, many times, you get the tempo/groove and you'll be jamming to it.

Been listening to this band since for ever.
Tempo stays the same, but the beats go: On Two Three Four Five, One Two Three Four Five Six Seven. That's through most of the tune, but Tool likes to throw a few more curveballs in. Although their music is very mathematical, it's also accessible, which is a statement to their genius.
A huge dilemma of miscontent between the two parties. But can be repaired if there was a good relationship between the two in the past.

As far as moving your head goes:
You can’t bop your head on the 2 or 4 with them. It’s a sway. You’ve got to find the resolution in the different times and sway with the common groove.

There’s a basic tempo that remains unchanged throughout the entire song. Their genius is particularly emphasised for me once I follow their music while keeping up with that basic tempo. They change rhythm around it.
