My greatest love in life is watching people discover TOOL.
I’m one of the lucky ones from being into TOOL since the very beginning and now as a 52 year old father, I am getting to enjoy seeing my Daughter also enjoying their music and being able to go with her to concerts to enjoy together ❤😊
Same. Saw em in 93 and was hooked. Now my youngest daughter is into em.
OGT, back from 92? 😉
@@dougparker1968 just O
The only band on Earth that can make a ten minute song seem too short.
Rap is great, rock is great, good music is good music.
couldn’t agree more!
@@TeddyGreyOSbro please PINT ALBUM
@@TeddyGreyOS so more Korn!..please please dont do "daddy' until you have heard 6 more songs from them..or if you are going to react to their debut album...like "got the life" or "clown"...keep up the dope reactions!
Preach
They’re each appreciate for different reasons and some of the same reasons.
If you're dealing with mental illness. Tool is like coming home with someone who understands.
👏
Perfectly said ❤
I think the term you are looking for is "polyjamorous" 😊 you would be surprised how many people say they identify or are into one specific type of music but are actually polyjamorous 😂. I admit I like songs from all type buy there are some types that takes an extra something for me to dig, like country or rap. Those musical genres require that something special to peck my intrest like Snoop Dogg, Miss Elliott, Dolly Parton, or Jon
💥💥💥
Absolutely
Gotta do Lateralus next
🌀 spiral out, keep going! 🫡
I second that 🌀
Agree. The fibinaci pattern is insane
Best song they've ever made. But I think he should hear a few more first.
Definitely. Lateralus is still an emotional and spiritual experience for me. Spiral out my friend. 🌀
the next thing should be parabol and parabola. they connect to eachother, and it's beautifully done
This!!! Every tool reaction he posts I’m commenting this exact thing
Agree. Although I've never seen anyone do Eulogy and I have no idea why.
Care should be taken to make them play immediately one after the other. It's effectively one song that, for whatever reason, was separated into two.
Yes. I’d love to see how Teddy approaches that one. I hope it sends him into full orbit.
@@brucegryllisgaming7732 There are a ton of reactions to Eulogy there is a search bar for a reason :)
From a Tool head, I loooove seeing people’s discovery journey of Tool because it takes me back to when I first started listening to them.
Vicariously hearing tool for the first time. I love watching Teddy fall in love with Tool. Definitely reminds me of when I fell in love with them the first time. He sure did some over thinking, over analyzing on this one. ❤
Finishes song immediately starts again... this is a Tool fan!. I used to just leave the CD in my car stereo the WHOLE album on repeat for weeks on end.
Weeks? More like months on end.
Fear Inoculum has been in my Car CD player as the backup since the day it came out in 2019.
Same. Especially in the year leading up to fear inoculum. No breaks to other music until I had fI in for about 6 months straight lol my poor kids..sorry not sorry
We have listened to TOOL on repeat for years on end.
@@crystalscolza1663Fear Inoculum was on repeat forever.
Then one day, I learned the drum beats, lyrics and parts, then I could take a break.
Gotta learn it first!
Tool has a way of shifting your mindset. They are one of the most special bands of all time. Excited to see you enjoy more
I agree! There is just something about seeing peoples' reactions to things you like that could be a hit or miss but not Tool.......they are in their own category. You anticipate their reactions when you know they will be caught off guard 😅. I can't help but think "yeah, I know it's so good" before they fully react 😅😂
Maynards mastery of words just hits different
@@nathanmintz8185 Modern day poet for sure!
@@chriswebb7822 indeed
Agreed, they are like no other…. They truly on another level of consciousness 🙌
More tool - no matter what the Patreon poll says!
Best bit is that mid section "tearing the fabric of time" sound is the bassist, wailing on a wah peddle, whilst cracking the volume nob up and down with his right hand, and hammering the notes with his left hand.
Love an innovator.
I think everyone here will agree that you don’t LISTEN to TOOL, you EXPERIENCE TOOL, and I can say that, from all of the reaction videos I’ve seen, that rappers and rap fans get that the most. The rappers almost always appreciate both the music and lyrics, and I love that and really appreciate it. Some people react on a surface level and I can tell they are not REALLY ready for TOOL, but you are ready. Keep listening to TOOL, you will find your life changing and the way you listen to music changing. TOOL just gives you something no other band can.
One of the best-written songs ever. Just incredible dynamics that shift seamlessly.
It really doesn't matter which Tool song you react to next, they're all gems. But all roads lead to The Grudge
How you talked about wishing you could give us all this feeling… all of the people who are glad you “finally switched over from rap” [
Yeah he really nailed it with that comment. I think Teddy knows a lot of good music that I've definitely never heard of. Because I've never been exposed to it. But I'm open to listen to anything. So It would be cool if Teddy would share some of his favorites with us. I don't doubt that his suggestions might blow my mind as much as Tool does.
Schism is one of the greatest songs ever written. Musically, lyrically, everything. Glad you've been able to experience it.
You are going trough a rabbit hole with TOOL once you get in there is no way back ! TOOL is another level of music your journey is just on a starting point Lateralus (album) is a master piece go trough it from the beginning to end it will change you and your perception of music forever. There is the known and the Unknown and between there is T.O.O.L
I love the way you worded that! I could not agree more! 🌀

That's a fact jack!!
Took a cousin of mine that never heard of Tool to a Lateralus tour show. He looked blown away lol especially with the visuals. He looked at me and was like “I feel like I’m being hypnotized and I don’t even care”. He became a Tool fan after that night lol
Parabol/Parabola but must be played together in one take no gaps. That is mind altering .. live your reactions. Carry on 🤘🏼
YES !!
I am happy to listen to tool on repeat with you anytime.
Everyone gets the "first time" feeling everytime we listen to TOOL. That's their magic. It's what sets them apart and makes them so special. One of the greatest bands to ever exist! 🙏🙌
The Part that gives u Shivers.... Makes Me Cry.... It hits my soul...! Im 58 & have listened 2 TOOL since Day 1..... Greatest Band Evaaaaa
I recommend ‘The Grudge’ as the next Tool reaction. Absolute masterpiece ❤
Great take on this song and its meaning.
💯 Schism? Oh my...get ready
I’ve been a TooL fan since I first saw the Sober video in ‘93. I’ve seen TooL 11 times, A Perfect Circle 6 times, and Puscifer twice. I’m going to see APC and Puscifer in 5 days. And I’m telling you Teddy, out of all of those songs ROSETTA STONED takes the cake
He better be into alien abduction stories. He didn't really seem to consider the extra terrestrial aspect of Aerials for System of a Down.
I just saw them in Phoenix for Maynard's 60th. You're in for a hell of a show dude
I also saw them in Phoenix in February! I wonder if we were at the same show. I'm about to see APC, Primus, and Puscifer in 3 days. I cannot believe how fortunate I am to see Maynard perform 3 times in one year (saw Tool back in Oct. As well).
I've seen Tool 9 times, APC 3, and Puscifer 5. The Tool live experience never gets old. And I will be at the Sessanta Tour to see APC and Puscifer again on the 30th. I can't wait!!!!!
Have fun at the concert today!
"The invention of headphones, so great"
Couldn't agree more. It's like having personal surround sound all the time if you have good ones.
omfg, "im not the smartest........ im not the smartest cup in the..... cup"
Too funny.
yes made me laugh
This might break teddy's mind
can confirm lmao
This reaction ended up being 30 minutes long and I went through the whole thing twice 💀😂
@@TeddyGreyOS is it the music video? Those crazy visuals tell such a story
Now THIS I’ve waited for 🤘🏼
27:27 When he pounds his chest that shit had me in tears because I could FEEL what he was feeling in that moment!
Tool army here.. more Tool please ❤ Tool is the ONLY band that has ever hit me in a way no other band has. I didn't grow up listening to Tool. My husband introduced me to Tool when i was in my 30's. It took me about 2 years to fully grasp what i was hearing. Now, I'm at a point of no return. Lol. Both me and my husband have tried listening to many other bands. And, whilst we enjoy other music, nothing has come even close to Tool.
For "Tool" a recommendation is to definitely listen in to "Vicarious", my favourite song of this band - such great lyrics and overall an incredible song!
Other than that, as we commented in the live chat, "Heilung", "Krigsgaldr" or "In Maidjan" are another great discovery for you - not quite "metal" but still somewhat related. Or Maria Franz' second project, "Euzen" with "Phobia" (or other songs) are great, too!
Yes! Please! Its amazing!!
That therimin sound is Justin's bass with a wah, fuzz, and echo pedals. It's amazing.
Don’t stop the tool rabbit hole brother absolutely love you!!
Lateralus, Vicarious or Jambi should be your next pick. Honestly can't go wrong with any of those choices and the musicality as well as lyricism in them are just top tier.
Yes these!!
He needs to prepare for Lateralus first.
Tool is definitely a full body/emotion felt experience
This is one of my favorite Tool songs! I have been listening to Tool for around 30 years and I still get goosebumps with this song..... oh hell..... I just outed myself as being old af 🤣
schism is a good word, and this song is a good description for it. basically two parties / factions who used to be one, start to fundamentally disagree about something crucial, which leads to irreconcilable differences and resentment between two sides who were once the same.
Omg. “That sound in the middle sounds like it’s tearing the fabric of time”. I love that.
You miss the joke with "I'm not the smartest TOOL in a shed" 😭
The greatest band in the world. 🤟🔥🔥 every song is journey for soul and mind...
You are right, it is about religion, they are that deep.
Third Eye/Push it/Ticks and Leeches/Right in Two/Rosetta Stoned are some of my favorites.❤🤘✌
liked for your favourites, those are most of mine too !
deffo glad seeing Third Eye/Push it/Ticks and Leeches/Right in Two getting love
may I add The Patient
@@stefancristian6128 Gorillaz fuckin rule.
Don't forget "right in two" "
Tool is such an awesome band, it's worth checking more songs from them!
I discovered tool years ago when I was in Bosnia. Blown away.
The full power of their message didn't hit me until I retired after 31 years in uniform. When I blacked out and fell face down in front of my wife.
Sober.
His little face. So happy ❤
What you called a tear in the fabric of time I’ve always thought sounds like a baby’s heartbeat that you hear through an ultrasound.
Tools music can be interpreted in so many ways, that it's relevant to everyone's own experience. For me, that's what makes it so incredible
So glad I checked your RUclips when I didn't see it on your Patreon.
This album came out 10 days before I graduated high school - and I still listen to the whole thing on repeat. I considered it kind of like a graduation gift that keeps on giving and never stops giving. It was so cathartic watching you feel the music, much like I do. It's visceral - TOOL are musical, production and lyrical alchemists - like a gift for your brain, a tuning fork to your nervous system.
Enjoy your trip, =)
You can't go wrong with any song off of this album (Lateralus)
I am loving seeing your feelings, thoughts, and spirit move when you listen to this. It never occurred to me 'Schism' could also be seen through a religious lens, and i don't know why it didn't occur when i know a lot of the background of the band's lyrics. Thank you. Wishing you the best on your journey, mate.
You got some food for thought with that band. Welcome to planet Tool.
You'll find out real soon that every tool song will be your favorite. It's a beautiful journey.
Hard rock and metal is actually a way of life!!!!!
You are more than welcome to join us
This is by far my favorite reaction to this song. No other reaction channel that I've watched has reacted to this song this deep and passionately and I'm loving it!!!
thanks for being a real one
I get shivers from music too, Frisson I think it's called! Only get them from very special performances. Tool gives them all the time. It's a journey in beauty, pain, anguish and anger.
The lyrics :Squaring off to me is an argument
Circling is when the argument just goes in circles.
Dissonance is they are arguing about nothing.
I love watching you feel your way through each song. Spiral out my friend, the journey has just begun.
Lateralus has to be next! Ive been a tool fan for decades...my husband heard me playing that song and it blew his miiiind. Fibonacci sequence included...that is a masterpiece.
The part that you were losing yourself in has stuck with me since I was 9 years old. I will never forget the first time I heard it, and it has been prevalent in my brain everyday since then. That was over 20 years ago. I truly understand the depth of what you were experiencing here.
You won me over. Not only discovering a new love, but articulating and relating such a journey to us all. I am a Tool fan, reason I am here. But you are the reason I will return again and again.
The middle part of this song always reminds me of the intro to Hells Bells by AC/DC, especially when the bells come in. Idk if that was the inspiration for Schism, but tool was definitely more intricate in their composition. And if I remember correctly, I think they are both in the same key. Thanks for the reaction!
Damn, your reactions are so genuine! Fucking relatable, this is the reason why reaction content can be so good, you remind me of what I was feeling when listening for the first time. Thanks for bringing that emotions back again man, can't wait for more Tool videos.
edit:
I don't know if you read the comments, but as someone somewhat autistic as well, I'm curious of your reaction of 3 musical pieces:
Tool - Wings for Marie part 1,
then A perfect circle - Judith (another Maynard band),
then Tool - Wings for Marie part 2 (in that order).
It's about Maynards mother. I lived kinda similar life, but not as brutal and draining. Would love to connect and agree with someone on this topic, seeing you give such a genuine and personal impressions.
Heavy stuff, amazing stuff, eye-opening stuff. If you consider recording those, man... Emotions are being tested and exposed. Fuck. Do it if you are ready to cry.
Anyways, no expectations, thanks for covering Tool, will check your channel frequently. So relatable!
Heard this on the radio today. The joy!
Tool is like that departed granda spinning a long tale that makes you think twice about life. Love from my granda and me 🤘
Oh man, I just found your channel and I'm loving these Tool reactions! I immediately have so many suggestions for other bands and songs based on what you're pulling out of these, I'll drop some below!
Schism was my introduction to Tool back in high school and is still one of my all time favorites. The music video is amazing too, completely unlike anything else being made at the time. It broke open my teenage brain in such a good way! Like a psychedelic trip even without adding substances to the mix. The mountain imagery you were talking about resonates for me too - their music is so cinematic, it can totally envelop and transport you.
First suggestion for another band: Alice in Chains, absolutely essential for any metal education. "Love Hate Love" live at the Moore is where I'd send you first. It showcases Layne Staley's incredible voice and the raw emotion he poured into their performances. This one is a total dirge, operatic and melodramatic and tortured but cathartic.
Second, since you're loving the lyrics, instrumental effects, layering and all the production details with Tool, you'll probably also love Nine Inch Nails. Definitely a genre defying project, but plenty of it is at least metal-adjacent. "Closer" is super popular but I'd suggest "March of the Pigs," "Wish," "Head Like a Hole," "Reptile," "Into the Void," "Physical" - there are so many!
Third, have you tried Black Sabbath yet? If not, you should check out their song that's also called "Black Sabbath," the opening track from their (also eponymous) first album. 1970. 3 chords that launched the entire genre. Slow, spare, haunting, cinematic.
I've got a bunch more ideas for more metal, and things that are not quite metal but might hit similar buttons in your brain based on your reaction here. I'm excited to watch through more of your stuff!
i'm probably one of your oldest fans, age-wise.. you've come so far, man.. and i know you are going to kill it in the future. All the best from America. Cheers. Edit: to say i'm subscribed now
Also, they Maynard makes more broad, he actually says "between supposed LOVERS,between supposed BROTHERS "....really changes it
If you're getting comments to listen ahead, don't listen to Lateralus yet. Take your time to get to that one. Every TOOL song will be your next favorite. I recommend going from start to finish in albums to see the metamorphosis of the greatest band ever. Opiate. Undertow. Aenima. Lateralus. 10,000 Days. Then Fear Inoculum. Enjoy the ride.
You have the best reaction to this song. Outlooks on the lyrics most people don’t think about. Hell yeah man!
Looking forward to anything Tool
Ah....welcome to the Tool Army! It's not just music, it's a journey, a trip, an experience. Maynard has always said that Tool is all about Justin, Adam and Danny and the sound those three make, he's just there for the ride. That's why those three come up with the music first, then Maynard writes the lyrics after hearing the track. And Tool has never recorded to a click track. There's a reason we say "spiral out" when listening to a Tool song. Maynard has even incorporated math into the lyrics with "Lateralus" and the Fibonacci Sequence. :) Thanks for this review, it made me smile. Either you get it or you don't, and you definitely get it. Hopefully you can see Tool perform live someday.
I just can't understand why, oh! my God! Why you haven't seen the "Hi Ren" video yet. It's one of humanity's great mysteries... I love your job, dude!!! Love it.
My brother, welcome to your TOOL journey. Youve gotten the concept very early, and i look forward to walking beside you on the adventure
I love watching new Tool fans form. I'm kinda jealous that you get to experience it all brand new. If you liked the breakdown in this song, look for a live performance...they have a special live version of this (and a couple other songs) with extended sections. It's awesome to see live.
Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion... between supposed lovers.
My favorite lyric in this song.☺️💕
Thank you for the reaction video… I’m in tears listening to the song again.
You're going to love Tool. Jambi should be your next. Lateralus is also mind-bending. The entire song is in the fibonacci sequence.
4* (degrees) is a good one to check out. Love the analysis!
The best way to describe tool is - you just feel tool. And on any sort of substance is 💯
That driving bass, though..love
Justin Chancellor is my favorite member of the band. I love how often they let the guitar keep the rhythm and give the bass lead parts with cool FX.
Maynard is in a category of his own when it comes to music. I'm 65 and living through the 60s, 70s, 80s and on and on taught me to open my mind to all sorts of genre.
When I heard Maynard in A Perfect Circle I felt like finally I found a band I could listen to 24/7. Orestes and Judith are my favorite. Then came along Tool, I love every song. Danny Carey is a drummer God. Then came along Puscifer and my life was complete. Tyvm Maynard.
oh that reactiion on sounds in the pit! its so amazing seeng people for the first time listening things that you listen billion times before! i strongly recomend to you "Vicarious", great lyrics and more dynamics
Brother, my bow to you, for your reactions to Tool, you are doing simply incredible work, my respect
Great reaction and great questions. Here's my attempt to answer one of the more basic of the thousands that this song raises. The tumbling down, the falling down, the crumbling down are the consecutive steps in degree of magnitude that occur when communications and truth break down. First you tumble (no big deal), then you fall (a little more serious), then you crumble (very bad situation!). Maynard/Tool always write songs that can be interpreted in numerous high-level ways - religion, politics, economics, humanity. This song is a human one for me personally at this time but in 2 hours it will be something different and so on. That's the genius. Continue down the rabbit hole my friend...the community is coming with ya! And I'm a massive '85-'97 rap fan too by the way - powerful music is good music.
Oh the rabbit hole that is TOOL songs. Its real, oh its very real. GENIUS is TOOL. 🤘
Awesome reaction Teddy! My favorite so far. I'm glad you discovered Tool! I think everyone need some Tool in their lives. I love how their music gets all the wheels in my head spinning!
One of the first Tool songs I heard that got me into them when I was a teenager. One of the more genuine reactions I've seen.
Random story I've not told many people:
The first time i heard this song was on the radio. I didn't really know them or the lyrics. In that middle part when he says "...atrophy any...". Teenage me thought he said Atrophy Annie. I eventually learned the lyrics. But to this day, I get a cartoon image in my mind of a comic book character named Annie who's super emaciated. But we follow her around as she goes on adventures. Like a Pippi Longstocking type of vibe.... lol
Edit:
19:03 Yea.. that's the part that hooked me too... lol
ROSETTA STONED
(Best TooL song ever)
lost keys + roseta stoned = 1 song xD
@@renatooliveira1653 You are absolutely right! Omg!! Good call! Blame Hofmann!!!
I ignored rock for 20 years. Grew up on PE, the JB's and ATCQ. At 25 I "Discovered" Zeppelin and eventually Tool amongst so much good music. Still love my hip hop, but Tool STILL makes the hair on my arms stand up now and then. It just hits so hard. I'm 50 now. the more you listen to, the more you know.
Sometimes, music opens a door in the mind, but the door of your mind opens somewhere new each time, hopefully, mostly, the travels are as beautiful as the destination.
And the world keeps turning.
☕🐝🇺🇸
I hope you get a chance to check out Intronaut. They toured with Tool in the 2010s, and have the same band-defining features; sick bass player, crazy intense drummer, and use of polyrhythms/weird time signatures.
“Tearing the fabric of time” that’s exactly what tool does and they take you on a philosophical journey that you won’t come up the same after listening to one song. I hope you’ll react more to them, they are brilliant
I absolutely did sawer it and it was GLORIASTIC brev! 🤘🏻👽
Great reaction! Keep reaction to tool! Their sound is immaculate.
I love the overthinking so much and the way he feel the music is just …mind blowing♥️ 🤯 is it just me or ?😂
Can’t wait for the next reaction Teddy!
Can't wait for Teddy to get to Lateralus based off this video. 😅
They like to play around with time signatures and syncopation, which is why catching the beat can be tricky. Awesome job mate 👏🏼
That's the beauty of well written lyrics, each listener will see and hear something that they can bond to their scenario. Read his book if you ever get the chance. Around the time between Aenima & Lateralus he was going through a divorce with his wife while on a world tour, she wanted to move back to Japan with their son... if you have been through a divorce with kids involved, viewing the relationship breakdown after coming through the other side can be applied to these lyrics.
All 4 musicians are incredible. Justin is still what my ear focuses on the most though.
If you love Tool & Maynard(the lead singer) you will love A Perfect Circle, which is another one of his bands. They are great & one of my all time favs. Listen to ‘3 Libras’ & ‘Judith’. Judith is about his mother who died of cancer & was very religious.
Great stuff as usual, brother. Your original take on the lyrics actually made me rethink the meaning of the song, which I've been listening to for the last 15 or so years.
I think you'd love Lateralus, 46 & 2, Vicarious, and Wings for Marie. All are fantastic tracks.
I always thought this song was an attempt to reconcile faith with reason. Both pieces fit in the sense that they provide answers for many aspects of life, but often seem to be at odds/unable to meet in the middle. Watching them fall away is a metaphor for growing up and either losing faith or holding on to it so fervently that science/reason seems at odds with your truest beliefs.
For an unrelated but interesting suggestion, I think you'd have a fun time reacting to We Got the Moves by Electric Callboy.
My dude. Hearing it the first time through you viciously (tool pun) was awesome. Keep the reactions real. Great shit!
Tool I think is my favorite band of all time
"Is that theremin?" no sir, that is the bassist making beautiful noises on his bass
That bassist is fucking incredible!
My absolute favourite band! ❤
Seeing them live this summer on my birthday for the second time, this time with my significant other. Can't wait for that shared experience!
I think as usual with tool it is just a documentation of human feelings and problems which may arise in many situations throughout many human lifes. And as I find, usually with tool they are not only describing the nasty feelings of fighting against your problems but also mixing in the motivation and the positive feelings that may drive you through said rought times.
For me the song perfectly fits the schism and the communication issues I face within myself, parts not moving together or disregarding other parts, but it also perfectly fits the situation I found myself in with my last love.
