Did it solve the problem then
Yes

Did you mean in the car shuts off? The mass of air sensor is good?
@@douglassderemer2944 It can happen sometimes.
Anytime when u unhook MAF Sensor! Any vehicle! If the vehicle runs after sensor is unhooked!
Then 💯 Percent that the MAF Sensor is bad! When sensor is unhooked!!the vehicle should shut itself off ! Hope this helps someone!
Unless it's tuned
Any ideas what the problem is when the car stalls after plugging it in? Will not start when connected.
Idle Air Control Valve. While its running try tapping lightly on your old MAF to see it makes it stall. See if it will start with your MAF wires disconnected. See if it stalls when you reconnect it.
I'm having the worst time with a 4 pin 2011 mustang slotted sensor. What would be the end results whether it cranks or not maybe some more terrible shooting tips? Honestly I think I have my wires crossed I had to swap pigtail and maf
Mine stalls when i connect it. Will not start with it connected. (New)
It is stated to disconnect the negative wire on the battery before replacing this part......
When replacing the Maf you may want to check/change your air filter if it's dirty
You have to buy an oem sensor for it to work correctly. Do not buy an aftermarket MAF sensor whether it's duro last or no name brand. It has to be OEM. And make sure that it's sealed when you buy it because a lot of these parts dealers are reselling used parts that have been bought by customers and they bring them back. I call them use because who knows what happened to him when the customer purchased them in the first place and brought it back to the business. And then the business resell them new. That happens a lot
i only use ac delco+ delphi on my grand prix whenever possible.
My p0101 code won’t go away, after buying multiple from oreilys, do you think this could be the issue?
You have to buy an oem good one
Denso ngt your good
Haven't had ANY issues with my aftermarket MAF sensors on any of my vehicles
U have a 98 ford f150 xlt I have replaced to massive air flow censor two times an it starting up for a little while I filled it up with gas an it went stupid again an about to go crazy tring to figure it out if it gets so bad while driving I can clutch it an cut off for about a minute an crank it it runs decent but not like it should so what can it be
I have a P0101 on my 2001 Toyota Sienna. Air filter is new I pulled the MAF sensor and cleaned it with MAF cleaner. Check Engine light is still on. Will the Check Engine light go off by itself, or do I have to clear the code? Does it need to go through a drive cycle? How long might that take, and what sort of driving would need to be done?
You need to clear the code . But check all the hoses it can be that too maf sensor goes off when hoses going to engine are loose or popped off
@@mandoughbeats I found instructions that said to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. Dunno if that's the standard approach, but it worked.
You can clean them, ..but only use MAF spray cleaner NOT brake cleaner or alcohol.
It rarely works.
If you disconnect from the MAF and if vehicle shuts off! The MAF is working fine! Your vehicle was still running when disconnected ... the MAF is defective!
exactly
Not necessary. In some cars the ecu detects that there's no MAF and reads from the memory values
@@affanahmmed3081 that’s what I think my 94 Lincoln town car is doing, I just bought a new mass airflow sensor, but it kept running when I unplugged it
Hi. I’m having the same problem. Were you able to detect what it was?
It was a mix of the MAF and bad O2 sensors.
when changing o2 sensor change both bank 1 and 2.
Just replaced mine and it ran better and got up to 100 mph but then stalled out again later?
Hey bro I have a Camaro 2010 SS .I replaces my maf.sensor..because..i have a code say it was my maf..sensor.but it still..feels the same starts to hesitate and some times it turns of on me ?
Did you figure out the solution?
Have a 99 ranger 2.5 starts then dies immediately.. unplug it it runs rough but stays running. Go to plug it in while running dies.
My 3.0 ranger was making a pinging chatter noise when I’d hit the gas an after unplugging the map sensor that fixed it it don’t maybe noises when accelerating so my guess is my engine was running lean with the map plugged in
Yeah. I cleaned my engine. That started it all. See my comment above, as well.
@@michaelmansun6203 I ended up putting e15 flex fuel in my 1999 ranger even tho it says don’t use e15 in cars older then 2001 but running e15 in my ranger made the pinging noise go away under load guess I’m just going to run e15 flex fuel in it as it seems to run good on e15
@@kamryn7496 I took my MAF off, cleaned it really well with MAF cleaner, blew it dry with compressed air. Let it sit for an hour. Installed. Cleaned Idle Air Control. It was nasty. Unplugged battery for 30 minutes. Same issues with wont start, or idles rough and dies. Unplugged MAF, started, idles like a new car. Have not driven, yet. MAFs are 15 bucks in Ebay. No to Autozone. I read it will run lean and can cause damage. I have also read that it won't damage the engine. It's an old car. I'm driving unplugged.
@@michaelmansun6203 if u run the engine with the maf unplug it runs rich but if u drive it like that it's not good for the catalytic converters that what I did an when I did that my truck ran rich but the engine stopped pinging so my engine was running lean when it was plugged in
Hey friend here's a tip for you the maf may not be your problem check the air control sensor and check for vacuum leaks using smoke if there's a leak you will see it. Meanwhile check that air control sensor
Try your air throttle control valve
My 95 nissan pickup wont idle with the mass airflow sensor plugged up but it will idle fine unplugged. I've bought 2 new MAF sensors but same problem. Any idea what else it could be?
If you've already ruled out a vacuum leak, maybe an AIC issue, but my guess based on age of your vehicle is the throttle body just needs cleaning or replacing if too far gone. Also check/replace PCV while you're at it. It's easy and cheap enough to worth doing at the same time (at least on my vehicle).
@@papaplaya5230 the throttle body had a screw on it that was turned all way to where it had to much air coming thru.
@@TrustTheProcessKB Ah, good catch. Thanks for replying and letting us know the outcome 👍
Check your upstream o2 senser
I changed mine now it says high flow circuit code no idea what it is
Change egr valve!
U need to unplug the battery before putting the sensor
Is there a technician in the house?
My experience is:
Over or under idle speed are the O2 sensors. Sensors send the wrong signal to the computer. This is why your engine is cutting off.
Sluggish throttle response and poor mileage is the MAF sensor.
Near a 100k miles, replace it all and you get a new engine it seems like.
Yea, I pretty much agree with you on this.
thanks Jim
Usually, you have to reset the ECU when fitting a new MAF. If you don't, it can take 200 to 300 miles before it relearns the new MAF and willl run a bit rough . It can also trigger a MAF sensor fault with the new sensor. Did it not tell you this in the paperwork that came with the new sensor?
I supposes resetting the battery on some vehicles will help.
How do you reset the ecu?
Changed mine in 2015 ram 2500 6.7 Cummins and it’s still throwing code and running bad
@@MattsShop Yes disconnecting the battery and reconnecting the battery will work on many cars. Ive never heardd that you have to reset the Computer, that can be a pain in the ass. You can also ready the numbers inside of the OBDII reader and it will tell you if you are within spec.
@@KevinPolin what do you mean disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? When installing it you need to disconnect the battery or install it while the battery is on and disconnect it and reconnect it again?
those wires are special elements inside.
Allways do this-don't know what your doing so just put parts in and hope it fixes something!!👀MAF cleaner
Lol the code said bad MAF.
@@MattsShop maf sensors use fine wire sensors that get dirty and do not send the correct signals,K&N filters foul the MAF sensors with oil after a while.
Yes it needs to relearn - can take up to 100 miles - be patient - its the old systems
Or if you don't have an emissions test in the immediate future and don't care about losing your radio settings, just unplug the negative terminal of the battery for ten to fifteen minutes while you clean or replace the MAF. This will clear all learned data and reset everything to default settings, so if it really was due to a bad MAF sensor and nothing else, it should perform well as soon as you start driving it. Then as you drive it, the ECU will collect data again starting with the defaults as the baseline.
@@papaplaya5230 have you done this? Been reading a lot of bad stuff about new maf sensors. Somebody spent 300 bucks having to take their car in to reset the computer. My car has 115k and has really hard shifts, only reason Im doing this.
@@walexander8378 While hard shifts are one of the signs, that alone is not a diagnosis for a dirty or bad MAF sensor. A dirty or bad MAF should throw a check engine code along with other performance issues, usually hesitation on acceleration from full stop, loss of power and general sluggishness (my experience). But those issues could also be caused by a vacuum leak, dirty throttle body, dirty fuel injectors and other fuel system issues, etc. If the only thing you have is hard shifting and nothing else and no check engine light, I wouldn't automatically assume bad MAF (although it *could* be). It's very difficult to diagnose without an actual code as a starting point Best bet is to take it to an honest mechanic.
I replaced mine and clear the codes ,now my truck run rough ,but after 5 min it normalize but still shows the same code every time I clear the codes my truck run rough
Any solution.
You need to check each of your Ignition coils first, with a multimeter. Changing the MAF sensor does not Fix It! Get your diagnoses right...don't be a "leap frog"! Step by step...not a professional parts installer mechanic! Watch..."Engineered Explained"!
true= can't be doing the leapfrog on interstate.
"leap frog" is par for the course for a backyard mechanic, didn't you know that?
I'd just take the housing off & disconnect the air filter, takes a couple mins. and that way you can clean better.
also make sure to put good quality gas in your vehicle
I have a 03 buick century that was stalling and dying I have tried seafoam in the gas tank because I thought I had gotten bad gas I had a diagnostic of a bcm and replaced it but the original bcm is the only one that will allow my car to start I have replaced a driver's side rear end solenoid and a gas cap also changed the radiator and a fuel filter and a battery and a starter now I have also replaced mass air flow paid a shop 50 dollars to do it and it's still trying to stall and die ??? What could be the problem
Nevermind my car seems to have came out of the problem now 😂 it was mass air flow
@@tashinanolen5661 how long did it take to fix it self? I just paid 50 to replace mines and it’s still trying to stall and die
@@nabilbhuiyan2296 it took one or two days and it was fine but if it wasn't your mass air flow yours might be something else ...
@@nabilbhuiyan2296 the mechanic I took it to also installed it improperly so I had to go back and have them align the arrows correctly since they are directional and it seemed to fix it but I also have either a vacuum leak or intake manifold leak so mine has started sputtering or misfiring if you will so I also need to replace that 😂
I would have replaced those ridiculous screws with SS allen wrench type screws from my local Rocky's Ace Hardware store.
We need this sensor ,how can buy
Links in description.
I've had everything replaced imaginable and it still chufs and sputters like it's going to stall and can't get over 60 on hwy. Replacing the 02 sensor again incase it is defective cause code comes up that's what it is. Frustrating to say the least.
They gave me this one at autozone but i own a g37, but when i look at replacement videos it looks like the wrong part
Did u find the right one? I just got mine today for my g37 & it looks more like a computer chip. Totally different from this one in the video
So I've thing you didn't get around to addressing is wether it but i can touch the end of the sensor?? Maybe another video where you address this because I'm pretty certain you didn't get around to mentioned it at all, so do i touch it and put a little grease on it then maybe a little dust or bellybutton lint on it...??
Don't touch it!! Very sensitive sensor.
Next time disconnect your battery before disconnecting the mass airflow sensor once you replace it then connect the battery back
Why?
@@Henny-TV reset lights
Thank you !!
I changed my mass air flow sensor to my 2013 Nissan versa and my car still jerks and then cuts off
Always listen to scotty Kilmer he knows about cars...
Use MAF sensor cleaner. It’s only used for MAF sensors
Those are not "vise grips", they are channel locks or water pump pliers.😊
you should also replace your air filter when replacing MAF
Why?
@@demiscuzz6427 Cause the old dirty filter might get jealous of a shiny new sensor and start acting up, this way here, both new start on an even playing field.

Muy excellente amigo
I mean what codes did you pull?? I don't think your obd or obd2 scanner said it's looking like it could be this, like typically you've got codes to support what your investigating, maybe I'm mistaken but you kinda make it sound like you pulled codes with what you think it might be If that makes sense idk 🤷♂️
It's code P010A or P010B for my car
If the engine does not stall when you pull out the cable on the maf then you neeed a new maf
Can I get it long form plizz
HA!
No offense you shouldn't be telling people what to do because you have no clue before you can even unplug that you're opposed to disconnect the battery and then put the new one in and then plug it back in and reconnect the battery and drive it around for 15 minutes so your computer can recognize the new one you cannot just unplug it when the car is running that's bad for the computer
Doesn't matter
First of all, you should learn basic grammar and spelling before you try to tell anybody anything. You sound like an idiot and I mean that in the most offensive way.
@@bobby_hill8357 dude why are you so mad at the guy ? And you don’t have to unplug the battery just turn the ignition off and turn it back on when you put the new one.
If engine dies when you unplug maf sensor it's good if it keeps running it's bad
When you unplugged the sensor it should have stalled. Or ran poorly So yes you had a bad mass air flow sensor and you should never use con pressed air it can damage the sensor. Just saying lol
Actually. When you unplug your MAF sensor it won’t stall out but rather default to a state pre programmed into the computer. Which will make it run in a stable state. The problem is that over time you will loose power and performance because the sensor helps control the airflow into your fuel mixture which goes into your engine. This isn’t a static number but one that fluctuates so the sensor helps the car from running rich.
@@leonardceres9061 if you says so. Maybe on newer car but older cars like that Ranger it will stall out or run poorly. try it. Just like if a alternator. Is bad and you disconnected battery car will stall. Or run poorly.
@@OU-xc4os we aren’t talking about an alternator though. My car is 2011. Not that new. When the MAF is bad it causes your car to run rich and shudder and stall out. Bottom line. All computers in cars since they started installing computers in cars have a default state for the air fuel mixture. The MAF sensor adjusts for real time changes because air flow isn’t always a constant. So by unplugging it… it will default to that saved state. I’ve also done this just now to test my logic with my 1995 Ford pickup.
Hay knows how you fixes a Ford !

Well first off that is not vice grips.
Use a Dremel to remove the material from the screw head
