Luke even years later this video is spot on, and still highly relatable to everyone watching. Regardless of what there personal opinion or preference is the explanation of both types was excellent. Thank You for your hard work!
GREAT videos Luke! I am a mobile detailer myself and usually use the Meguiar's Professional line as my main tools. I am new to the channel and find your videos very informative! Thanks!
I watch 4 videos spray wax vs traditional liquid/paste wax I must say your video explained it in more detail but simple now I feel comfortable using either method thank you for the great information and demonstration
I use Ultimate liquid wax and have the synthetic spray wax. I hand wax it three to four times per year then use the spray wax maybe every other week to reinforce the coat that's already on it.
I agree. Xpress Spray Wax is really fast and easy to apply, and gives surprisingly great results for a spray on wax, especially on trim. I also use it on the window's exterior. Ultimate Paste Wax is longer lasting and gives more protection, and a slightly better shine, while taking the extra time to apply. You can't go wrong with either of them, and I use both. Paste as a base and spray after a wash. As an aside, you should make a list of your recommended item links for each video, so it's easy to find and use them. Thanks for all the great advice.
I meant links for all future and past items each time you do a new video. For instance this video would contain not only links for the products used here, but links for your recommended bottles, cleaners, towels, tire shine, tools etc. For instance I watched a couple of your videos with recommendations, but had not seen the one about leather care until after I had already purchased Meg's Leather Balm by coincidence.
I use both of these products. Thank you for the comparison! I've started to use the X wax once a month on my personal vehicle and it seems to be great. X wax is also my "go to" when customers only want a "Wash and Wax".
I love d156. Try it on your interior. A nice satin finish that holds up for so much longer than any conditioner I've ever used. Leather, rubber, plastic, metal, my radio LCD screen, everything.
Its getting to the point now where the wax isnt the issue, its the ease of use. I think its all in our heads. I have both sprays, liquids, pastes, synthetics, naturals, and all I know is im knackered after using one over the other and they all look similar after a days weahter. GLAZES, now theres a thing, they are there all day to add depth, gloss, deepen colour and so far the sprays dont do that AS well, so maybe thats next then no-one will buy hard waxes again if coloured infused spray waxes come along. It used to be "hey wont last as along" but then if you use it each wash, it lasts as long or longer.
Thanks for the great video! Will the paste wax whiten the rubber or plastic parts? Going with ultimate quick wax now and it's really amazing. Will try x wax soon.
Good to see side by side that the liquids are repelling the water just as well, I could not really see how the finish was though honestly I think the the hard wax left a nicer finish.
Awesome video my dude !!!..all your videos are good for that matter!!..I would second that also to see a video on xpres spray wax as a drying aid! Ps ..perhaps a video of restoring/protecting /dressing rubber window trim seals. I normally use hyper dressing but just curious to see what the pros use Thanks man!!
You seem like a nice kid and very enthusiastic so it's not easy telling you this. Both of these products are not needed and simply a waste of money. The following is not my "opinion" or "what I think". If you really want to be more profitable, please do your research on the MSDS for the products you use. $35 for a gallon of spray wax? That's 27 cents per oz. Or you could go the Griot's way and pay 63 cents per oz. Meguiar's X-Press Wax contains about 70% water according to their own MSDS. That means about 90 oz. is distilled water. The majority of the remaining 36 oz. contains basic petroleum distillates which can be found in a myriad of other less expensive waxes. It does contain poly(dimethylsiloxane) which is synthetic but in such a low dose is negligible in the results at
Very nice video. Very informative for me as an enthusiast. I just have a question if it's possible or better to layer the meguiars waxes like: 1st ultimate wax for strong protection, to be applied every 4 months 2nd layer will be the gold class carnauba wax for extreme glossy shine to be applied once a month & 3rd for weekly basis the xpress synthetic spray wax. I'm hoping for your reply. God bless.
Dude, please read my post. Meg's Ultimate Paste Wax contains no carnuaba. It has Petroleum Distillates and Poly(Dimethylsiloxane). Gold Class Paste Car Wax has Naphtha (petroleum), silicones, and Petroleum Distillates. Don't overthink it or buy into the marketing. Properly clean and decontaminate your car then use the spray wax you just made.
I think that may be over doing it a bit, if you are planning on applying spray wax every week, you could honestly just stop with that, if I were you I would focus more on applying a sealant once or twice a year, then maintaining it with some spray wax every week or two! Glad you like the video my man! Let me know if this helps!
Hello Luke! First n foremost your channel is quickly becoming my favorite auto detailing channel. You definitely explain things thoroughly for everyone to be able to understand so keep it up! I am currently a DIYer but I would really like to potentially start my own business or at least do it independantly as a side job for money as I like to do it. Some quick questions for ya- If a client asks for a wash and wax do you often use the "Express Spray Wax" or the "Paste Wax" more? How do you decide which to use? And 2nd question- Do you charge the same to apply either wax? Just out of curiosity to gain knowlege on prices for clients. Thanks!
Hey man! I am so glad, that compliment made my day!!! Let me know in the future if I can help with anything! As far as the wax, witha wash and wax, I will normally go ahead and only apply the Express Spray Wax because it is so quick, and I will charge differently for different waxes, paste wax I charge more just because it is more time consuming, and you would be surprised, but some people are very particular about the wax you use, so I have some expensive stuff in my arsenal that I use for certain people, and I charge additional for that as well
would it be beneficial to use the spray wax to dry the car and then use the paste wax after? will the spray wax being applied before the paste wax give a better finish?
Claire B In my personal opinion paste waxes are more durable, the formula is newer than the spray wax(UWvsXW, so it’s always best to put the stronger ceramic coating, synthetic sealant, synthetic wax, Carnauba paste wax, carnauba liquid wax etc
MTSU? My daughter is looking at MTSU. If I was in a time pinch and/or making a living as a detailer and wanted to save some time, I'd be using that spray wax all day long (time is money). Wax n dry with the spray wax. I'm a hobbyist, and sorta enjoy waxing my car, so I use both (spray n dry, then use normal wax).
Hey Luke really enjoying your videos over in the UK, something I've been really curious about for a while and I'm hoping you can help with is.... how many types of wax can you combine successfully. For example if I wash a car with meguiars ultimate wash and wax. Dry and car off with x press wax as a drying aid, could I then use my meguiars ultimate paste wax? would it be of any benefit or am I wasting time and money?? What would you recommend for washing and drying when ultimate paste wax will be used. Thanks man
I always say use spray wax as a last step if you want to double up on waxes. So I would dry, then go paste wax or sealant, then go spray wax, always go most protective to least protective

As he menitons, the spray Wax is a polymer-based product, not wax, per se. (A good idea; lasts longer, easier to wipe it off). It is a time-saver but it does not last more than a few car washes in my experience. Their paste wax is polymer too. I love that because it's much easier to buff off than a traditional wax. Quote: Synthetic polymers crosslink to form a protective barrier that accurately reflects and amplifies light for incredible depth and mirror-like shine
Hey Luke, love your vids and energy! I’ve learned so much awesome stuff from your channel! Do you ever use Nu Finish? Are you opposed to it? If you haven’t already can you do a vid on it? Thanks
I was turned on to this product about 2 years ago. I LOVE this product! You can use it two ways, on a wet car wet or on a dry car. I used it dry, because that is what I am used to. It goes on easy, comes off easy and leaves a surface so slick that you cannot even place a dry towel on the hood of the car without it slipping off. The deep shine is ridiculous. Like a show car that someone spent two hours buffing and waxing. washwax.com/collections/exterior-products
I think it just depends on the situation, I would be more apt to apply the liquid with a buffer if I am doing some paint correction, and the paste if I am applying by hand with just a regular detail!
Fantastic. I used Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax. After using up six 15.2 oz bottles and burning a deep hole in my wallet, I heard about Xpress Spray Wax and I bought the gallon tub. I believe it is the same wax except for the fact that Quik Wax smells much nicer.
Henry Tong yes absolutely!!! It's so funny you say that because I wanted to make a video on that! I am convinced that they are the exact same product! But hey, that's just another way the industry makes money I guess 😂😂😂
Cause I somewhat have a turtle wax wax which my friend gave to me but not in the product container because it is a Bad Order. So i'm not sure if it is a spray wax product or liquid wax. If it is not that hassle, could you do a manual waxing guide for people without a buffing machine? That would be a great content and big help. Great video BTW!!!
From what Ive researched, the Trinova sealant has more shine then Jet Seal, but I cant find any proofs of longevity from either. Anyway, I applied it tonight with the Meguiars DA power attachment with a hexlogic 4" applicator pad, and was very impressed. It has a red/pink hue and is fairly runny. Can be stretched and applied pretty thin. Comes off super easy. It didn't cover the fine swirl marks, but has a high gloss and looks like glass. I topped the sealant with some Nu Finish paste wax because it was $7 and claimed 12 mo longevity, but that stuff ended up being hard to apply and remove, maybe a microfiber applicator pad was a bad choice..
Gotcha, very very cool! I will have to try out that product and see how I like it!! I think the nufinish issues you were having are more due to the quality of the product, rather than your applicator so I would not worry about that! Thanks for the insight! That is great!!
Well you can do either! If you are a detailer then you are going to constantly be getting new waxes, and trying them out so, I would always suggest to try new stuff, but if you like what you have then definitely keep using it! But in the future, definitely try the meguiars!!
Hi Luke, awesome video ! Just what i needed. Thanks. I have a few questions: 1.) What method do you prefer if you were going to use both waxes on a car. Meguiars Paste wax first followed by a Meguiars express spray wax or the spray wax first followed by the Meguiars paste wax? 2.) What is your opinion on the quality of paste waxes vs Liquid waxes (not spray), for examples Meguiars ultimate liquid wax vs. Meguiars ultimate paste wax? Thanks
1) I would use the paste wax first as a base, then follow with the spray 2) I think liquid waxes, at least in my world, are reserved more for machine application, so I might follow up a polishing with a liquid wax, but not for any specific reason other than I feel like it, and people say that machine application of a liquid wax allows it to really bond to the paint, and therfore produce a pretty awesome shine, and apparently last longer kind of like a sealant, but no nearly as long as a sealant
Did you know that Meguiars Ultimate Extreme Super Duty high tech paste wax has the SAME formula as the world standard Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell? Both are silicone based waxes. But you are paying 5 times more for that miracle super star wonder Meguiars wax.
Two waxes both being silicone based does not mean that they have all of the same ingredients, however I understand the thought, and in many cases in the detailing world we are definitely overpaying!
You make coffee nervous.
Does at line at -:01

Any tips for removing paste wax that dried on the vinyl trim?
Use a large pencil eraser. Takes it right off easily. It works.
Peanut butter
Love me some x wax! I use the megs NXT Tech wax 2.0 and it's even easier to apply and remove than the ultimate. Leaves an incredible finnish too!
Yes Yes and YES!!

does the spray wax provide any kind of uv protection?
I always use X-press Spray Wax on my black Suburban, love the product. Keep up the good work. Best regards from Sweden
Definitely! I cant get enough! Its one of the essentials for sure!
Thanks Luke !
Paste wax definitely the winner!
YES!
NXT tech wax 2.0 is deffinetly my favorite wax. It beads so nicely. I don't like paste wax cause it's hard to remove
Thats definitely an awesome wax!
personally i love meguiars tech wax 2.0 because of how easily it goes on and wipes away! it lasts an extremely long time as well.
Thanks for the great video! Will the paste wax whiten the rubber or plastic parts? Going with ultimate quick wax now and it's really amazing. Will try x wax soon.
Kiefer Chang great question! The paste wax is totally safe for black trim and plastic pieces, it won't stain anything!
Good to see side by side that the liquids are repelling the water just as well, I could not really see how the finish was though honestly I think the the hard wax left a nicer finish.

Very good explanation. I think I would use the spray one thanks for the demonstration of how to used them
Absolutely! Thanks for your feedback Francisco!
Might have to add this to my arsenal!
When using the spray product, should I use rubbing compound prior to remove any scratches as I would when using traditional liquid or paste wax?
Good video and advice both products work great. it only depends on what the person likes from the results.

What microfiber towel did you use when removing the wax? Is it the Kirkland brand microfiber towels?
Great stuff man! Gonna sub right away.

MCGamer could I do the same with meguiar’s ultimate liquid wax? 4 oz and then 28 oz of distilled water in a spray bottle?
Do you tell your clients you are using your own homemade concoctions on their vehicles?
Maxx Weber he’s not using his own “homemade“ product, he’s simply diluting a product that anyone can buy.

Should of done a turture test starting with light 10-1 apc to see which one is more durable
Do you have to use a clay bar before any type of spray wax?
No, but you will get better results. Remember clay can lead to marring requiring a polish to correct it. Nothing scary though =)

LOTS more than you can do

Use it straight, it does not mix with water

Well you can do either! If you are a detailer then you are going to constantly be getting new waxes, and trying them out so, I would always suggest to try new stuff, but if you like what you have then definitely keep using it! But in the future, definitely try the meguiars!!
Wilson Auto Detailing Appreciate it 👌!
Of course!
Hi Luke, awesome video ! Just what i needed. Thanks. I have a few questions:
1.) What method do you prefer if you were going to use both waxes on a car.
Thanks
1) I would use the paste wax first as a base, then follow with the spray
2) I think liquid waxes, at least in my world, are reserved more for machine application, so I might follow up a polishing with a liquid wax, but not for any specific reason other than I feel like it, and people say that machine application of a liquid wax allows it to really bond to the paint, and therfore produce a pretty awesome shine, and apparently last longer kind of like a sealant, but no nearly as long as a sealant
Great video
Meguiar's 👍
+nicolas lemaire definitely!
Wilson Auto Detailing I am French, and we also here have loved meguiar's! the new ultimate fast finish is great 👍 just like the ultimate wax
I'd just say paste might last a little longer
great video
G v thank you!
Good video. Thanks. Can I apply the paste with a buffer machine instead of by hand??
Paste wax would be a better choice if you are working outside and there is a breeze.
Just throw some Paste/Liquid Wax in a mixer with a little water and Voila you got some Spray Wax!! 😎
Spray wax is liquid.
The paste was looks more water repellent. The water slides off of it faster.
Agreed!
How long does Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax last?
Probably about a week and a half to two weeks for most people
Wilson Auto Detailing Thanks for the fast reply! I love seeing RUclipsrs interact with their viewers! Keep up the good work you have built up!
