Only annoying thing about owning the AW3423DW for 2 years was having to use the blinds cause I like having sun in the room. But for desktop use or productivity, even for casual gaming I don’t bother controlling the light, cause it has no functional benefit.
Tell me that I'm right without saying that I'm right lol. I present to you a third glossy challenger that you might not have thought about since it's beyond the scope of this channel: AMOLED glossy panels found in laptops. These panels are not QD-OLED, but I have a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro that comes with a 14" AMOLED screen and while it does not exhibit the same sort of grey lift since it doesn't lack a polarizing layer*, I do find it has a lot of trouble in ambient conditions with reflections still. I think this is were most of my caution with glossy panels stems from, and it goes to show that all glossy coatings are not created equal. I do think matte does slot in to this discussion a little bit, in that it deals with the worst jumpscare of all: seeing your own reflection when the display shows a darks scene. Again this really depends on your ambient lighting conditions, as I'm typing this on my LG TV I don't see my reflection in the youtube grey -ish background at all. But there have been times where the display was closer and perpendicular to my windows and this did become annoying even though I'm very cute. All in all, the glossy coating is very impressive, even on my old ass LG E6 and ideal for monitors. This applies more to TVs where the huge screen gathers a lot of ambient light, and only to daytime viewing. The only problem in this analysis is that yeah the glossy LG tv coating is amazing but the smallest you can get it is in 42". LG's fault to be sure, and if you and others keep making a lot of noise about this I suspect we will see more glossy in the future, but also the reality at this current stage. So then the discussion does become matte on WOLED vs glossy qd-OLED, and that is a very different perspective, since then the QD-OLED is only the better pick in controlled conditions (and then becomes the far superior choice due to color volume). Dough has already shoved back the release date of their 32" it seems if you look on Reddit, so they are too unreliable to be counted in. If you can find the gorilla glass model in retail though by all means, but I don't know how they handle reflections compared to LGs glossy panel in the real world just that the data seems worse, but might not be all bad because they use that on phones. *This ties back in to previous discussions about the downsides of QD-OLED where the fluorescent blue OLEDs are nearly not efficient enough and need to be stacked, as removing the polarizing layer seems to improve display brightness by about 20% (since newer phone AMOLEDs have since removed the polarizer and that is the reported benefit). I think Samsung has been deceitful to us about the benefits of QD-OLED in terms of brightness because most of their gain really does seem to come from that 20% of removing the polarizer, and was relying on phosphorescent OLEDs for the tech to really mature, but that doesn't seem to really play out in the way they wish it did.
I don’t think he ever mentioned that the coating was the main issue with lighting. He said that QD-OLED displays struggle with contrast ratios in well-lit rooms. When he talks about matte coatings, it’s to point out that they diffuse light in both directions, which can lead to less contrast and sharpness compared to glossy finishes. Matte coatings are designed to minimize glare, but they also scatter reflected light, resulting in less vivid colors and a decrease in the perceived depth of images. This is especially noticeable in bright environments where maintaining high contrast ratios is essential for the best viewing experience.
As someone whose last two monitor purchases have been QD OLED, I agree with this video. Do NOT get QD-Oled IF you can't control the light in your viewing room, or can't put the lights you do have BEHIND the screen's periphery. It'd be a waste at that point. You can light up a room with plenty of light with QD OLED and it looks great IF they're not in front of the screen.
I have no problem on this QD OLED monitor because I can control my lighting on my room like dimming my lights on the right spot if I like to turn my lights on 😅
Since most of the adults have life and shit to do during day, we play at night like 90% of gaming sessions. So no problem what so ever. And those colors are like x15 times better than woled.
Guys, turning off the light or dimmer the light might make your gaming experience nicer but it will hurt your eyes in long run. Our eyes pupil enlarger to receive more light in darker surrounding even if your display is bright.
I find that even with some ambient light on my DWF the black image is still better because of the uniformity of the deep purple. Not having the splotchy look of the LCDs backlight makes a big difference. Then again, I turn the lights off and it looks deep black.
It's not a big issue. I use it with the windows open, I just don't put a light or a window behind it and there is nothing negative to notice. I have the Alienware and it's honestly amazing. I am not even that much of a glossy fan. Just a good monitor, period.
Dude, I have no problems with you, rly. But I just bought the PG32UCDM and let me tell you its a freakin monsteeeeer ! I have light of the day coming from the back and I see less problems than with my PG35VQ, with matte cotting. The screen is just great and the rest is being excessively fussy. Not sure of the word but I’m sure you get it. Love you. Keep up the good work 😊
Why is no one also talking about how impossible it is to clean a qd-oled? Do people seriously expect that they won't accidently spit or sneeze on their screen in the next 3-5 years?
OK, that's a strong point for my decision to keep the Odyssey Neo G7 or get the AW3225QF. I'm really impressed by the HDR perfomance of the Neo G7 even in daytime with a huge window beside the desktop.
If I need to have hdr in a brighter room Im using mini led. Im using the QD OLED's in a dark room. The s95c takes care of most lighting situations. Listen yall colours are pretty, depends on your use case. After using a reference monitor for editing everything else is just for fun.
Now, I will know why I’m going to use only lights from: the display, the ones from from the case (bright enough, in the Bequiet 500X), and maybe from the keyboard and mouse… everything else will be shut, especially during/with daylight…
HDR v1 standard: >1000 nits peak brightness and less than 0.05 nits black level (min contrast 20k ) OR >540 nits peak brightness and less than 0.0005 nits black level (min contrast 1,080,000) EDIT: VESA HDR has min black levels: 0.4 in DisplayHDR 400; 0.1 for DisplayHDR500/600 then 0.05 0.02; DisplayHDR *** True Black is 0.0005 ;

I can’t wait until mini/micro led is good enough to replace oled monitors. Then we will have high brightness, high contrast and no burn in. The true end game.
Can’t wait for a decent crop of miniLED monitors to save us from buying a monitor that is gonna have burn-in in less than 5 years. And then eventually microLED to finally put the nail in the coffin of OLED
@@Rob-Davidson that would prob be a better idea. Do you think 5 feet distance is sufficient? Asked someone else’s and that’s what he recommend as well.
Even G4 83" will have raised blacks in bright room. Always makes me laugh people saying the new MiniLED will be destroy the likes of say OLED , even a G4. Then rave about bright room viewing , not knowing it suppresses contrast . Saw Vincent on HDTVtest raving about some 168" 10000Nit monster , great display to be sure . But you could never watch it in any normal room in the dark . that TV would light up the whole room , far more than the room lights in a bright scene . That TV was showing some bright image , big deal , lets see it remap a 1000 NIt mastered movie in a challenging scene , have my doubts how well it would do with dynamic tone mapping. Think the G4 is a good buy , can do a nice dynamic tonemap , A 4000NIT movie would probably be fine enough . Bit annoyed LG only have one seller in NZ for G4, 30% more expensive than Australia . So need to wait 1 year just to get an 83 for normal price if I don't buy something else , doesn't endear me to LG

I really don't get why LG put a glossy coating on its G4 OLED-TVs, but when it comes to their WOLED-tech for monitors, they recommend to use matte coating... and Samsung does it also vice versa??? wtf? the S95D has for the first time ever a matte coating. What's going on here?
Thanks for this vid! Could we see a complete black level comparison graph with all the monitors lights on and lights off?
I'm curious as to how a VA mini-LED compares with lights on. According to TFT central's black level study, even basic VA is blacker than QD-OLED in all but the darkest of conditions, but they didn't test mini-LEDs.
I bought the lg 32gs95ue and im loving it!! the matte screen does not bother me what so ever. Probably best since my setup is next to a window.
What about the fan noise? Love the design of it, but it having a fan is a bit of a deal-breaker....
@@TecraX2 I have not heard the fan whatsoever. I've had the screen for over a week already. I used the screen for work, gaming and productivity and I have not heard it 😅
This is true, as someone who enjoys media or gaming with the lights on and haven't invented any curtains or blinds to cover ambient light, I specifically ask theaters to turn on the lights before the movie begins so that I feel right at home.
Yeah that must be a bummer. They don't know the trick is that you don't actually need to invent curtains or blinds, they already were invented. They just need to buy some!
Informative video...looking to replace my current VA Acer Predator monitor. And, I'm in a fairly bright room with windows behind my screen so room stays very bright all day.
Lower than one single nit sounds absurd to consider that a deal breaker

New samsung oled comes with matte anti glare finish QD.... what is the difference we will see..
What about having other monitors next to it illuminated? Are they bright enough to cause issues as well?
I have 2 neo G8s next to my Alienware 3235qf and it looks super dim but if I turn them off and have all my lights off it looks okay. The brightness ruined me from the neo g8
So what oled monitor should i buy? I don't want a tv or mini led

I bought a aw3423dwf i love it. Best monitor ive ever owned. You win some you lose some. Cant have them all
I love how QD-OLED looks, but I just cannot game in a dark room.
Most of the people’s comment here really don’t understand that it’s not a simply turn on and off light.
It’s all about living habit. Not everyone is vampire gamers and completely no room light is killing your eyes. and you spend so much money on a product and still need adapt complete change in environment to reach it full potential? Hell no.
Vampire gamers are obnoxiously arrogant when it comes to these realities.
@@DrakonR I mean, if you are capable to be a vampire gaming life style. Of course good for them. Just that different peoples built differently, I like darker room but can’t completely off the lights and only RGB lights. Just that give me a tons of eye strains.
Are monitors less fleshed out than TVs? Because I got a QD-OLED TV and while the purple shimmer is definitely noticable when lights on its not even close to what I see in those kind of videos. And my sceiling lights are pretty cold and bright
Dude, this is not the coating’s fault. QD OLEDs don’t have a polarizer layer. Hence the issue. Even a matte coating QD OLED will have the same issue.
I have no problem on this QD OLED monitor because I can control my lighting on my room like dimming my lights on the right spot if I like to turn my lights on 😅
I use my 42" KTC monitor with LG WOLED panel about 1 year as a monitor 12 hours every day - best monitor i've ever used. No burning or other problems
What is best for a bright room? How did mini LED do in that scenario?
Just close your eyes and imagine the perfect dispay, that's the only solution.
I bought the AW3225QF for the motion performance, and I can tell it exterminated my motion sickness. Using in a light controlled room, looks awesome
I have flood lights recessed into the ceiling, and it makes no difference if I have them on or off.
HDR v1 standard:
>1000 nits peak brightness and less than 0.05 nits black level (min contrast 20k )
OR
>540 nits peak brightness and less than 0.0005 nits black level (min contrast 1,080,000)
EDIT:
VESA HDR has min black levels: 0.4 in DisplayHDR 400;
0.1 for DisplayHDR500/600 then 0.05 0.02;
DisplayHDR *** True Black is 0.0005 ;
can you give me the numbers for lg matte woled? that is hardly missing
Monitor is absolutely awesome. Just turn the lights off? I don't understand how this would be an issue for most people
I have an AW3225QF my room has 4 bright lights right behind me and large windows and its literally not an issue
I live in a modern high rise with glass walls (windows) and that’s why QD OLED is not an option for a consumer like me, and I like to have my curtains open cause the view is insane
Id buy OLED but they are not on 1080p. I aim much better on 1080p then on 2k or 4k.
I have a PG32UCDM and the coating is gorgeous you don’t notice the glare when the color pops out soo wll
Any issues when you try to clean it? Any scratches or smudges?
I think WOLED ist better than QD-OLED.
Any monitor looks best in a dark room, no matter if LCD, OLED or a CRT. And in the dark QD OLED is the best you can get
Already have a 42” C4 on the way. Upgrading from a Dell U3818dw. So excited.
buy, dont buy, buy again, dont buy again, all of these fillers until a meaningful complete review between oled, qdoled and mini led
Wow QD OLED isnt perfect, incredible. Show me perfect technology then.
I can’t wait until mini/micro led is good enough to replace oled monitors. Then we will have high brightness, high contrast and no burn in. The true end game.
Love to see the min brightness for QD TVs
Are the qd-oled monitors and TV the same? I have a Samsung S92C and don't experience any of this.
It seems less noticeable on TVs for me, but it’s definitely still a problem. Maybe the larger screen just makes it less apparent.
Do you think Samsung’s upcoming QD OLED monitor will solve some of these issues?
Can’t wait for a decent crop of miniLED monitors to save us from buying a monitor that is gonna have burn-in in less than 5 years. And then eventually microLED to finally put the nail in the coffin of OLED
LG G4 boi 😌
Haven’t had a pc since pre covid. Once 50 series drops I’m getting a 65 and a custom desk
I wall mounted a 55" LG G4 with a 4090 and man its something else. I sit about 5 feet away. @Javingil
@@Rob-Davidson that would prob be a better idea. Do you think 5 feet distance is sufficient? Asked someone else’s and that’s what he recommend as well.
@@Javingil 5 feet is perfect for me
Even G4 83" will have raised blacks in bright room.
If you are getting an OLED you should also try smart led lamps
Definitely, actually. Sometimes turning off the lights completely is a bit intense so dimming them to a warm glow is great
Seriously i dont see this. i was using the 321urx during the day with lights off and window behind the monitor. It looked just as pitch black as the LG C1 right next to it.
So get good blinds, curtains, and turn the lights off. Got it.

So nice stats and numbers but you are wrong.

So if I want to enjoy the media/game, just turn off the lights. I would do that anyways because oled has low brightness for HDR. HDR is only good on oled in a drak room.

Too late! I'm super happy with it. I'm certain untrained when it comes to looking at the nuances but as a normal user, it's great!
I personally wouldn't bother with current OLEDs at all and just wait for NanoLED (EL-QD) in a year or two honestly.
Its once again just a pick your poison situation like with LCD panels, except way worse.
While it may be true I can’t anymore with my 4K 60 TN panel as a heavy user
Why are you conflating QD OLED vs WOLED as glossy vs matte? I mean, sure there is CURRENTLY a lot of overlap on that Venn Diagram but I have an LG OLED tv that is NOT a QD but its glossy. Plus even if there arent any QD Oleds that are matte right now, there very well could be in the future so why are you doing this. Just say glossy vs matte. You're just confusing ppl and making generalizations which are not always true
