    The part I really hate with the Stock Cooler, is that once you removed it, the backplate gets loose, and you will have to demount the whole MB to be able to screw the new cooler on that. Genious design.

    Great video Mike...when i built dters pc i made rookies mistake of buying s/hand board without back plate. Bought cheap plastic one which didnt meet std cooler so literally bent mb so had to buy genuine back plate and all good. Would been same cost and easier to just buy new mb! You have covered all types of fasteners and for someone who only (re)builds occasionally this is a great tutorial to have in toolbox. Thanks for great content, stay safe everyone👍

    This video make me think how much easier it is working on servers, where you just order up a processor. Someone turned up in a white van in 2 hours and it comes with the heatsink already fitted and you just pop it in without having to fit at fan on top. This hobby PC building is just hard work!

    When ever I install a Motherboard or cooler...I use an extra long Phillips or Cross Hatch screwdriver for the installation. Helps if the tip is also magnetized to hold the screw(s). The extra long shaft makes it easier to install the Motherboard or Cooler without having to angle the screwdriver tip which could possibly damage the screw head(s). Hope that helps.

      I use a 18 inch long magnetic crosshead and wear one of those elasticated head lights comes in well handy when installing the motherboard

      @@mikesunboxing I turned to the dark side and no troubles so far (goodbye B.S.O.D.) Since I own Ci5 10400 and TUF H470 pro Wifi I haven't got troubles with components. I suffered more BSOD with my old FX 6300 - HD6450 combo (even same CPU and GTX 1060: bottleneck). Perhaps one day I'll give myself a try and become a Jedi again XD (All AMD components).

    Bought parts for a 5700G APU build. Thinking stock cooler should be fine for my needs, but certainly do not want to have to back and change the cooler later.

      if you are going to use the stock cooler remove the stock paste and use something else and it will be easier to remove later on

      @@mikesunboxing Thanks Mike, Unfortunately I had installed the Wraith Stealth cooler using the AMD factory paste before seeing your message. Ever investigate replacing the wraith stealth fan? Although don't expect to push this machine during normal use, I am thinking there must be quieter fans.

    replaced my thermal paste and when i go to put the heatsink back, my screws just are nowhere near the motherboard holes, and the springs r so stiff

      readjust the backplate and put something solid under it to keep it in place when you are tightening the screws

    A real treatise in cooler installing!
    I have a hyper tx3 evo, which has a latch style, but I think it would apply a much stronger pressure than ryzen 2600 stock cooler. I still wonder if the backplate is rigid enough to prevent mobo bending, that tx3 is retired since my previous build and I didn't gathered courage enough to install it...

      yes you can do it either way round, the fan can also be removed and rotated

      @@mikesunboxing thanks for the information. Although it would be more helpful for me if there was a short video on how to rotate the fan as I find that the fan's screw does not reach the holes. Rotating the fan seems difficult too as I am not a professional and a bit nervous too.

      yes most aftermarket coolers will reduce the temps in gaming by around 10c give or take a bit, and usually be a lot quieter

      readjust the backplate. it should be completely flat against the back of the motherboard

      best to remove the stock paste totally and apply good quality paste like mx4 etc

    If you use a graphite pad instead of thermal paste to install a custom cooler, will it move into a position that does not touch the processor correctly when placing the new cooler in place since it is not stuck on the CPU or the cooler?

      yes best to do it on a flat surface to prevent movement

      @@mikesunboxing This is an excellent installation video; however, there are idiots like me who require more than a couple of sentences on the removal of the current cooler b/c we've never attempted an upgrade before. I have a Noctua NH-D15S and Ryzen 5 5600 waiting to replace a Ryzen 5 3600 and its stock cooler. I just want to be 100% sure of what I'm doing before I do it and risk messing up what I already have. It may be second nature to you and most viewers, but not to me! Can you help?

      resposition the back plate and ensure it is firmly flush with the motherboard

    I have a micro atx motherboard and im planning on buying a new cpu cooler does the cpu cooler also have a size or it all fit every cooler. .because i am having thoughts that if i buy it may not fit or it may hit my ram it's hard because i only have 2 ram slot. .

      it depends on the case dimensions and the processor type and the cooler you are thinking of getting.
      In general most coolers will fit the average ATX format case as that is the target market but don't always take that for granted

      In the case specs, it will list the maxium CPU cooler height. My advice is to NOT get a CPU cooler that is at the same max height; give yourself some wiggle room and get one at least a few MMs less than the listed max CPU cooler height. Sometime the height of the heat pipes sticking out the top are not accounted for. Good luck.

      Ang the processor is ryzen 5 1500x 3.5ghx
